  1. Good Morning, Everyone….🎋 LEAVES OF THREE? LEAVE THEM BE! 🎋

🎶 Measles make you bumpy and mumps’ll make you lumpy, and chicken pox’ll make you jump and twitch…A common cold’ll fool ya, and whooping cough can cool ya….But POISON IVY Lord’ll make you itch!!…You’re gonna need an ocean of calamine lotion…You’ll be scratchin’ like a hound, the minute you start to mess around…POISON IV-Y-Y-Y-Y .POISON IV-Y-Y-Y-Y…Late at night while you’re sleepin’ POISON IVY comes a’creepin’ arou- ou-ou-ou-ou-ound…🎶 “Poison Ivy” – The Coasters 1959 https://tinyurl.com/pglx3m3

🎋 I just can’t help but wonder…what did this guy ENGAGE?
To make him have this itchy scalp, and rashes like a mange?
His wife don’t mean to CHIDE him, his spirit not to CRUSH,
But it looks like it’s gonna be a while before he’ll brush!
He’s scratching and his hands a THRASH…it’s all over his head,
But like I said I wonder…really how’d he get this dread?
Let’s hope they caught it early…and in the bud they’ll snatcher…
Or else our guy’s destined to be a serious HEAD-SCRATCHER! 🎋

Ok. So, HEAD SCRATCHER I get. And it’s a really cute solve…but what’s got me scratching my head is …How DID our guy get POISON IVY, if he hasn’t been out of the house? I have to side with our characters…I just don’t get it…Are we to think his son gave it to him? Since the boy’s asking who wore his hat? And we know that there’s a clear, sticky, oily resin called URUSHIOL in Poison Ivy that can remain on clothing? https://tinyurl.com/y4a6s5ut Can’t be though…Because if our guy didn’t leave the house, why would he have been wearing a hat? And taking it a step further…are we then to believe that the son DOES have poison ivy, which he probably caught going “into the woods”? And what? His parents don’t know that he has it? How could that be? How could your kid have something as invasive as poison ivy, live in the same home as you, and you not know? Because isn’t it true that there’s no way for someone to be completely immune to the effects of urushiol? I’m telling you Folks…this has me bewildered…And I can’t help but have a RASH of questions…So, I have to ask you again…How did our guy get it? Does the hat CAP it off? IDK…Maybe I just need to turn over a new LEAF…and give up on all these puzzling posers…You know…SCRATCH it all and just STICK with Kakuro…So what are your thoughts, Folks? Write in and give me your take on it. OAKy dokey? Good…SALVE me the trouble of thinking about it all day…

OAKy…Let’s back up a tad…We may be BREAKING OUT with Jumble History today. I don’t know if this is a first, but not only are all four of our words Sweet Repeats this morning…every anagram is a repeat also. And I definitely LEAFed through the Archives to be sure. SHURC and EEGGAN are from way back in 2012, while STARHH and DICEH are from 2018 and ‘19 respectfully. All repeat anagrams…Now how’s that for a kick in the head?

Anyway, that’s about it. No need stretching this out…like we can see the kids hat is…(But I will mention that the word HEADing is used in the dialogue)… Besides that, there’s really not much more to FLARE UP here…It’s a quiet morning…So I think I’ll have time now to try mixing up some homemade poison ivy ointment…My friend showed me how to make it from SCRATCH…And I’m just ITCHING to try it…Have a good day, Everyone…Be well and stay safe out there…And if you’re thinking of taking a walk into the woods? Maybe not this weekend, it’s going to be way too hot out there…Maybe this weekend it’s best to just LEAF well enough alone…🎋🙋🏻‍♀️

  2. 🐕 It was a real HEAD SCRATCHER to him how how his neighbor allowed his dog to THRASH around in the yard, and CRUSH everything in sight, and he thought to CHIDE him about it, but finally decided not to ENGAGE him at all…🐕

🤷🏻‍♂️ He felt that he should CHIDE himself as once more did they THRASH
His efforts at a poker win…they’ve taken all his cash…
Why does he even ENGAGE in these games where he’s no match?
He never comes out winning…and wonders…”Is there a catch”?
They CRUSH him each and every time, he’s never felt the rapture
Of coming out on top for once…for him it’s a HEAD SCRATCHER…🤷🏻‍♂️

  3. No problem w the anagrams or the cartoon solution, but the repeat letters in engage were a momentary setback. We’re oddly at home today and this weekend, sheltering at home,so we’re missing our Saturday twin watch,nd I’m sure they’re missing us,especially their gramma. With a THI forecast in the mid 100’s,we’re also staying in the AC controlled inside environment,

    • Good Morning, Professor…You hit the nail right on the head with Engage. Looking at that double-double chain of letters is definitely distracting. And yes, it is an easy solve. Good decision staying indoors this weekend, Prof…the weather reports are dire. Be well, and keep safe. 🎋🙋🏻‍♀️

  4. Good morning. Another successful completion. No problem with either the words or cartoon answer. Angela you got me to put a big smile 😃 on my face with your song choice. As JJ would say “ Dynomite“. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Good Morning, Brooklyn. We’re definitely on a winning streak, right? The puzzles have been very kind to us this week…And I knew you’d enjoyed the Coasters…😉 an oldie and a goodie…Have a good one, Paul…Be well, stay safe and keep cool! 🎋🙋🏻‍♀️

  5. Hi Everyone –
No problems today. From what I read on the web, Angela, there are some people who aren’t bothered by poison ivy, though they can develop a sensitivity at any time. Luckily, animals like dogs and cats don’t have a reaction, but they can bring the oil inside. PI and its berries do have some redeeming value as an important food source for birds and other animals.

    • Hi Caroline, Good Morning…Strange thing that poison ivy…I really never knew much about it…just that the rash of it definitely looks bad…And it’s just like you to find something “good” about it…ever the environmentalist! 👏🏻👏🏻Kudos! Wishing you a good day, Caroline…Be well and stay safe out there…🎋🙋🏻‍♀️

  6. Thanks, Angela, but I do cut the stuff down when I see it growing in my yard.
Same wishes to you and all.

      • I thought the emoji before yours was an animal eating a plant, which would have been fitting, but after searching I see it’s a wishing tree. Cute! But I don’t know what the emoji before kudos represents.

        • LOL! You’re right…that would have been very fitting…But I couldn’t find anything that looked like poison ivy…3 leaves, so I just picked that one. 😂 Maybe Steve can find me one that’s a better representation… We have the same emojis…And I had no idea it was a wishing tree! So…Kudos, again! 👏🏻👏🏻…And this is clapping hands…Which are well deserved! 🙋🏻‍♀️

      • Thanks, I wasn’t sure it was hands. I’m not certain about the other emoji, but I looked it up on Emojipedia, which I just found out existed, and it looks like the Tanabata Tree, the giving tree, to me. I think it suits you.

        • You’re very welcome! Yes, the clapping hands…Goes well with the Kudos! 😉 But, get out! Emojipedia? I had no idea that even existed…Thanks for the heads up, I’m going to check it out…And as for the Giving Tree? Thank you, Caroline…I do try my best to be…And that’s so sweet of you to say…😘🙋🏻‍♀️

  7. I don’t check in that often anymore. Have noticed, though, that Mike doesn’t seem to post anymore.

  8. Another easy one this morning. It’s been a good week. Enjoyed The Coasters, Angela. Hope all of you have a good Saturday.

    • Good Morning, Betty…Thank you, I’m glad you liked it. And yes, it’s been an easy, breezy week, puzzle-wise. A good Saturday to you too, Betty. Be well and stay safe🍃🍃🙋🏻‍♀️

  9. Hi all – The last word took a few tries. Thought NEGATE, started with ‘A’ and saw “Aegean Sea”, then tried ‘E’ at the beginning, saw EN and then ENGAGE. Tried HAIR for the first answer word, then HEAD and saw it.

I remember the line “You’re gonna need an ocean of calamine lotion” grabbing everyone’s attention the first time they heard it, and there was certainly an ocean of great lines in all those Leiber/Stoller songs written for The Coasters, Elvis and many others.
    https://tinyurl.com/songlistleibstoll

How about this for poison ivy: ☠️ 🍂 You can also catch it just by standing downwind if someone burns the leaves.

And here’s my guess on the puzzle, inspired by reading about cooking tips. They always say that hot cooking grease droplets fall back down after they cool, so the best way to keep your glasses clean while frying food is to wear a baseball hat. So the kid brought the oil in on his hat, which the father grabbed while cooking, giving it to him even though he hadn’t left the house.

    Good wishes to everyone.

    • Soooo…,You think it was the calamine lotion that garnered all the attention? And NOT what the song was “really”😉 about? Different times back then, a LOT was left 😱unsaid…And Kudos on the poison emoji! 👏🏻👏🏻I was focused on the plant…and didn’t see the forest for the trees! 😉 But that hat scenario that you’ve “cooked up”? 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’ve been frying since I was knee high to a poison ivy plant, and I’ve never worn a cap to cook with… A cap in the kitchen? Sacrè bleu! Sure, the oil’s in the hat…but that grease never made it into the kitchen! 😉 But from a 6° standpoint? We’d let you play! 😂Be well, Steve…and stay safe out there! ☠️🍃🍃🙋🏻‍♀️

      • I only picked the brown instead of the green emoji because it had three leaves. 😂

        • Yes, I saw that…but I was trying to stay as close to the tROOT as possible, so I stuck with the green…😂 Maybe this…🍃🍃🍃? 😂☠️🙋🏻‍♀️

  10. When I have a problem with one of your jumbles, I bring out my Alphabet Dice Game . A game I used to play with some 75 years ago . I finally found a similar game with letters instead of numbers on the dices’ faces . Very helpful .
Today I guessed right away the word scratch then added ED however I was stuck with HARE . Couldn’t figure out why HARE wasn’t in quotation unless there was an error . After scratching my head, I switch the R and the D… bingo or should I say head-on!!!

    • Head on, indeed, Jensen! Likewise the scratching! 😉And I’m glad you stuck with it, it’s a clever solve…Thanks for commenting, Sir…it’s always a pleasure hearing from you. Be well, Jensen…and stay safe out there…☠️🍃🙋🏻‍♀️
