    👑 Elizabeth has always been a woman of her own,
    Becoming Queen so young as she…into the role she’s grown
    Not many people can ATTAIN respect as she has done,
    As far as Britain is concerned…she reigns as number one…
    Her family’s had problems, we’ve seen a great DIVIDE,
    We know the rift with Harry is something she holds inside…
    As Queen she checks emotion, but I’m sure a CANYON deep,
    Is how she loves her family…yet stalwart she must keep….
    To all the many citizens who live under her realm,
    She can’t let down her armor…there’s no HAGGLE at her helm…
    And despite how the London Press always looks to INFORM,
    Elizabeth keeps stiff her lip, as dignity’s her norm…
    So now I’m left with SEPTUM…and I could stand on my head,
    The word’s not fitting anywhere…it shall be left unsaid…
    I’m not real big on royalty, but I will offer rampions…

Do any of you remember the puzzle? Did the word scare you off that day? Cause you to CASP ER or there? Well, if so, it’s back to haunt you…And the Early Birds found themselves overRULED by just one word this morning…and that was SEPTUM. Three of them totally DEVIATED off course…

    So…I must say that I got a chuckle this morning out of the fact that the day after we celebrated our independence from Great Britain…we find ourselves back across the pond. Five years ago, on September 9th, 2015, Queen Elizabeth II became the longest-reigning British monarch, at 63 years and seven months, surpassing the REIGN of her Great-Great Grandmother, Victoria. And on February 6th, 2017 she became the first British monarch to celebrate a Sapphire Jubilee, commemorating 65 years on the throne. So today, in 2020, with 68 years UNDER HER bejeweled BELT, she’s definitely the REIGNING CHAMPION! And it was right there in the dialogue…”Surpass” Victoria, and “tenure”…Bottom line?..No one’s done it that long…SCEPTER!

    Eye candy? There’s the Victoria Monument https://tinyurl.com/ydc2deoz to the left, letting us know that we’re entering Buckingham Palace, since it sits right across from it. And upon it, we can see Queen Victoria and a bit of the Angel of Justice. An adoring crowd surrounds the Bentley, many of whom are waving the Union Flag. And Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip are seen doing the wave. But I’m going with the chauffeur…”Stiff upper lip” immediately came to mind…well, because he’s seen displaying one…and it just fits the scene so well…”A person who is said to have a stiff upper lip displays fortitude and stoicism in the face of adversity, or exercises great self-restraint in the expression of emotion. The phrase is most commonly heard as part of the idiom “keep a stiff upper lip”, and has traditionally been used to describe an attribute of BRITISH people in remaining resolute and unemotional when faced with adversity”….I guess it’s that…or maybe a London Bridge is falling down!…(C’mon…you know that’s a good one)! …Anyway…There you have it, Folks…Done.   2. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Wanting so badly to ATTAIN his goal of reaching the CANYON, he was concerned that his deviated SEPTUM might affect his breathing, and wondered if he should INFORM the Scout Master; but he was afraid that if he did, the leader would HAGGLE him, forcing him to DIVIDE from the troop…and then he’d never get a chance to be REIGNING CHAMPION… 🤷🏻‍♂️

    👃🏻 His deviated SEPTUM would sometimes cause him grief,
    Ignoring it was one thing…but he chose to turn a leaf…
    So making it his business to ATTAIN all that he must,
    He read up to INFORM himself…’twas surgery or bust…
    They’d do some kind of DIVIDE thing…the details slightly gory…

    “So let’s not HAGGLE further…let’s just get this thing done…

    Thanks, Angela, for the background info on the drawing.
    This puzzle was a real workout for me. Canyon took a while and I was unable to get Septum until I had the answer, which wasn’t easy either. Reigning finally came to mind and then
    Champion.

    • Good Morning, Caroline. YVW. You want to laugh? You know how it rains so often in London? I was thinking that maybe if Jeff had drawn the day as a rainy one…the solve might have been a little easier to get. Reigning Champion is a phrase often heard in the sports world, so it was an immediate solve for me as soon as I looked at the puzzle…but that’s when I got a little chuckle thinking about the rain. I wonder if David or Jeff thought it too…but then I suppose they wouldn’t have been able to have the Queen riding in a convertible…Anyway, it’s definitely a clever answer. As for Septum, we last saw it in September, and it was a runaway stumper that day for sure…over 400 players voted for it. It’s definitely not a word that comes up in cocktail party conversation! 😉 But Kudos for your solving…you done good! 😉Hoping the day treats you ROYALly, Caroline!       • Yes, rain would have added a fun dimension. I thought the answer was very clever. Unlike you, Champion didn’t come to mind after I had reigning because I associate the phrase with athletes and wasn’t able to make that mental leap. I had to find Champion by unscrambling the letters. Wishing you and all a great, safe day, too.

  5. I joined the crowd being stumped by septum,which looked like stumpe to me.I did come up with the cartoon solution,reigning champion.She is indeed incredible.

  6. Hi all – This one took me a long time for two reasons; there were no small words in the answer to eliminate any letters, and I was missing some letters because I couldn’t get SEPTUM at first. Had to do lots of jumbling before trying TUM at random and finally seeing it. I figured ING had to be in there, and thought of words like “royalty” and “longest”, but seeing that the letters for REIGNING fit showed the answer.

    Great post today Angela. Thanks for the details of the monuments that I didn’t know about, and the excellent SCEPTER pun. The London Bridge work was good, although with that and SEPTUM we’re doing more surgery today than I’d like to think about, and I’m always happy to learn a new word, today’s RAMPION, although let’s not start in on my SALAD DAYS again!

    Well, here goes nothing: “His friends had to INFORM him that to fix his deviated SEPTUM, he would have to HAGGLE to ATTAIN the services of the great surgeon who had retreated to an office at the end of a CANYON beyond the Continental DIVIDE”.

          • Thanks for ‘splainin’ that to me! 😂 You know, I may have actually noticed that (but maybe not as well), but I was focused on writing my post and the hard time I’d had getting “sputum” and the answer. (Sounds like Jackson Browne, “I can’t remember how I used to think”. Or I probably wasn’t thinking that early.)

  7. Had to bring out pencil and paper for today’s puzzle. Got hung up on septum. Kept seeing sputum. Finally went on to the cartoon. Figured out reigning fairly quickly but somehow monarch got stuck in my head however the letters available didn’t work. Like Caroline, I associate champion with athletes so it didn’t connect at first. Then again. Queen Elizabeth is certainly a champion when you consider how long she has been on the throne and all the events she has been part of in her lifetime.

    • Hi Cincy…Septum seems to have done its share of damage today, that’s for sure. As I had mentioned earlier, it’s not the most common of words…As for me? I guess it’s a little bit of both. Sleep and I are often at odds! 😉 Hope your night’s going well..Be safe out there…🇬🇧🙋🏻‍♀️
