Good Morning, Everyone!      👗  CLOTHES MINDED?  👗

🎶I’m gonna buy a paper DOLL that I can call my own…A DOLL that other fellows cannot steal…And then the flirty, flirty guys with their flirty, flirty eyes will have to flirt with DOLLIES that are real…🎶Paper Doll” – The Mills Brothers  1943

👗 When hearing of new fashions…it’s like MUSIC to my ears,
I think I’ll never QUENCH the thirst for wool and silk and sheers…
The Jumble Boutique we see here takes on a whole new SLANT,
It seems they dress their windows with a gender-basis grant…
Right now we’re seeing woman’s clothes…the feature for this week,
And next the men will center-stage on WOODEN dolls of teak
I only have one critique, models needn’t be all thin…
Refreshing it’d be showing a size larger “WOMANNEQUINS”👗

So, one day last summer, I was walking through the mall with two of my Little Ones. A girl, 4, and a boy, 6. Passing a woman’s clothing store, I stopped to look in the window. My niece said, “ The dolls all look so pretty”, and I told her they weren’t called dolls, they were called mannequins. My nephew looked at them, scrunched up his face, and said, “There’s not even one man…they’re all ladies…they should be called “womannequins”. Ba-boom! Drop the mic! A kid after my own heart! And I stood there so proud! (Psst…David, call me…You may want to speak with this kid. And since I like your style so much, I’ll even settle for just 5%, instead of the usual 10)…So when I saw today’s puzzle, I couldn’t help but smile at the memory…Which now, in light of what’s going on in our lives, seems like it took place 100 years ago…Anyhow…suffice to say, this solve was no problem…

And speaking of, the Early Birds had no problem trying on today’s words for size…they were all a good fit. And just like a worn, comfortable pair of jeans, they’re all old familiar ones too…The only thing we did address?  The solve. While most of them got it easily, especially with the “dolls” in the window, and that “Q” sticking out like a sore thumb amongst the letters, 4 of them needed to spend some time stretching it out…Don’t get me wrong, it didn’t wear them down, but they were fashionably late getting to the finish line…they just couldn’t cotton to the idea that quickly…(Although one of them was taking soooo long, I did have the urge to mention that there should be a statue of limitations on these things)…And I should add that 2 of them felt that perhaps it should have been a 2-piece solution. But they all did agree that it was witty and clever, and could rate up there as a Top Ten solution…

Ok. Let’s wrap this up. There is our blonde girl wearing three earrings, which may be considered a hole lot by some. Wide belts are in trend this year…helps create that ever popular hour-glass look…And it seams that our male window-dresser may be sporting a hoop in his ear…But I don’t really think I need to spend much time peeling the layers from our cartoon today. “Fashion” and “Men’s styles” in the dialogue, and “Female life-size figures” in our question? Definitely got that gender thing going. And as my nephew said….”They’re all ladies”…So, “WOMANNEQUINS” it is!

Oh, my song choice. What can I say? Is it a perfect fit? Maybe not. But my nieces “doll” comment was already in my head, so it just popped into mind. And anyway, how could you ever go wrong with the Mills Brothers and that beautiful “Fabric of our lives”-type mellow sound they had? Plus Dino? (I have to say he definitely caused me a few pants when he was around)..But put them together? Well, maybe I’m biased but it just seamed like the right way to go…Paper Doll, Plastic Doll, Wooden Doll…it all comes out in the wash…And it suited me just fine…

And I’ll clothes with a little mannequin humor…Did you hear about the cargo ship carrying crates of mannequins that sunk to the ocean floor?…It was “1,000 Legs Under the Sea”! …So, There you have it, Folks. Done! Wishing Everyone a peaceful day. Stay well, stay safe, stay strong…and stay indoors….👗🙋🏻‍♀️

  1. 🧍🏻‍♀️Taking a break from setting up the WOODEN platform to display the new fashion SLANT they’d taken featuring WOMANNEQUINS, he grabbed a beer to QUENCH his thirst, and turned on some MUSIC..🧍🏻‍♀️

🔥 They tried to QUENCH the growing flames, but they got there too late,
The WOODEN barn was now engulfed…the fire reached the gate…
They tried to SLANT the hoses, which roared like MUSIC loud,
And all the while neighbors emerged…so now there was a crowd…
The owner tried to remain calm, but panic did begin…
His inventory was all gone…man and WOMANNEQUINS…🔥

  2. So call them WOMANNEQUINS because they aren’t men. OK, so if an industrial plant’s workers are mostly women, then they are womanufacturing. If a female candidate gets a mandate from the voters, she doesn’t. She gets a womandate. Men need to have good manners, but women need to have good wiomanners. A million men are many men; a million women are womany women. So there are many men (or mans) out there that can become women. And it is not just with man/woman. You can’t mail an envelope for free; you have to pay a fee for it. So it isn’t mail. It’s femail. And the blank below asks for my email. What’s that, something between mail and femail?

    • Jim. I’ll have whatever it is you’re drinking… Be well. Stay safe. 🧍🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

        • ROTFL!👏🏻👏🏻 Of course! But Girl, I’m way ahead of you. It might only be 9:30 in the morning by you…but I’ve begun going by the belief that wine goes extremely well with lunch…and it’s lunch time here! And I really wish you could join the party! Salud! 🍷🙋🏻‍♀️

    • Thataboy, Jim! You’re really getting the hang of this pun thing. It’s a play on words. Keep playing!

  3. Good morning. Another easy day on the words and after writing down the letters for the cartoon answer it didn’t take to long to come up with mannequins but what to do with the left over letters WO. It took a couple of minutes to sink in where to put it. Loved the Mills Brothers Angela and your work. Take care and stay safe.

    • Good Morning. Brooklyn. The ”WO”…Like the old joke…WO(E) to man? 😉 Glad you enjoyed the music, and thanks so much for the Shout Out. Be well, Paul. Stay safe. 👗🙋🏻‍♀️

  4. All 4 anagrams were a snap as was the obvious woman related solution.Surprisingly easy for a Friday.Good news of the day ,is our threatened 4-6 inches of snow turned into a rain/snow mixture that just coated the grassy surfaces, and left the streets wet but not icy or snow covered.

    • Good Morning, Professor. Glad you dodged a bullet. We’ve got the same coming here, a rain/snow mix…and I agree, it was an obvious solution. Be well, stay safe. 🧍🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️

  5. I knew the answer right from the start. I wrote in “WOMANNEQUINS” in the answer column BEFORE taking a crack at the jumbled series of clues on the left side column. It was so amazing! I’m a total aficionado of the Jumble puzzle that appears in my hometown newspaper daily. I love it so much.

    • Good Morning, Robert. I can “hear” your enthusiasm! 😉 We’re all Jumble lovers here, so you’re in good company, and I’m glad you had fun with it today. Thanks for commenting. Be well, stay safe. 🧍🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️

Yes indeed, getting the spelling right was even a challenge for this former 6th grade spelling bee champion.

  6. Love Jumble. This was a little far out . I will still play until they are not fun anymore.

  7. Hi all – This was a quick solve today. Although the answer was frighteningly long and in quotes, it was obvious what they were going for, and I happened to get the words quickly with help from the double-letter trick WOODEN.

What came to mind instantly is the Twilight Zone episode “The After Hours” where Anne Francis is trapped overnight in a department store with mannequins that come to life.

Angela, I was thinking your song was by The Ink Spots, which would have been really bad in this cartoon today, but Mills Brothers brought back appropriate memories – my parents often went shopping at discount clothing outlets in New England that had formerly been big textile mills before the industry moved to the South.

    Good wishes to everyone.

“When the guitar player reached for his drink to QUENCH his thirst and his WOODEN chair leg collapsed, it gave his MUSIC a whole new SLANT.”

    • Hey Steve. We have had mannequins before, with a nod to Anne Francis, but this is our first womannequins …(and auto-suggest definitely hates the word, right)! 😉 And we’ve spoken about that episode before. A classic…as they all are. But WOOD you believe that you and I also had the Ink Spots vs The Mills Brothers discussion before too? Not taking anything from the Ink Spots, 🎶If I Didn’t Care 🎶 is in a class all it’s own…but the Mills Brothers are the Mills Brothers. And this song was their baby… https://tinyurl.com/y82yabhc I was just looking to see if I could find anything about when the Mills Brothers returned to the US from London, where they had given a command performance. They found that the Ink Spots hit the scene, and they had begun to appeal to white audiences…I don’t know how I know that…(the abyss and all) 😉, but I don’t think it had anything to do with 🎶Paper Doll🎶. I’m going to see if I can find anything about it. But I know a lot of people confuse the two groups. Be well, Steve. Stay safe. 👗🙋🏻‍♀️

    • I found something! It’s a lengthy article, but very interesting. Very detailed. And there’s a piece on what I was remembering. Way down between a picture of the Ink Spots and a picture of John and Donald Mills. SMH! This I remember…but again, what we ate for dinner last night? LOL! I hope you enjoy the article. 👍🏻🙋🏻‍♀️

    • Hi Steve, I totally remember that Twilight Zone with Anne Francis. It was one of the best. My very favorite one was with William Shatner. I think it was called, “Terror at 30,000 Feet”. He has been released from a mental hospital and sees someone out on the wing of the airplane dismantling it. That was such as great series.

      • Ohh, a closet Twilight Zone fan, who knew?😂
Yes, that was a real classic. Shatner was also in one where he and his wife stopped at a diner, and he became obsessed with a little box at their booth with a devil’s head on it that would print out fortunes.
My favorite was the first one I ever saw, where a British WWI biplane landed at a US Air Force base in the 1950’s, and it turned out the pilot had abandoned his buddy in a dogfight, but ended up going back to give his life to save him.

  8. Easy one today for a Friday which was nice. That’s one sharp little fellow you travel with, Angela. Loved the 1,000 legs under the sea. Our Jumble now appears in what is our “Sporting Green” section of the paper. Since there’s not much to report in that area we have today two additional pages of puzzles: Word Search, Suduko, Wuzzles, Quizzes etc. There’s just no end to the fun. Take Care all.

    • Sports? What’s that? 😥 Good Morning, Betty. My paper started doing the same. Tons of different puzzles. I guess it’s all in an effort to give us some diversion. Help keep our minds occupied by something lighthearted. It’s a nice gesture on their part. My nephew? Thank you. The kids a budding punster. He really makes my heart swell. (And he just might be my favorite, but you didn’t hear that from me) 😉 I have him doing the Kids Jumble every Sunday for the past two years, and he’s a whiz with it…I have my fingers crossed…🤞🏻And thanks for the Shout Out. After I wrote it though, I couldn’t get the image of a slew of legs floating in the water! Kind of freaked me out! 😂 And yes, an easy, breezy go of it today. A PERFECT FIT for a Friday finish…Be well, Betty..Stay safe…👗🙋🏻‍♀️…(But what is Sporting Green anyway)? 🤷🏻‍♀️

      • Our local newspaper prints the sports page in green and it’s titled “Sporting Green” Most folks just call it the Green Sheet and it’s the section of the paper the males in the family usually grab first.

  9. Yes I solved it today but your explanation was the memory of a little child’s words… that boy has a future !!!!

    • Brava, Jane! 👏🏻👏🏻 So satisfying to get the solve, right? Especially the “quotation marks” ones. And yes, out of the mouths of Babes! Thank you, I think he does too. He’s the sweetest little boy…kind, caring, big-hearted…and always eager to learn. Here’s to hoping he never changes…🍷(Like I needed another excuse to raise my glass)! 😂😂 Thanks for dropping by again, Jane. And remember…One day, one Jumble at a time. Stay well, stay safe, stay strong…🙏🏻🙋🏻‍♀️

  10. Doesn’t anyone remember the Two and a Half Men episode where Rose (supposedly) gets married to a gentleman named Manny Quinn? Funny stuff!!

    • Chuck! ROTFL! 😂😂 Mr Manfred Quinn…Of course! ..”What’s he like”?…”Oh…quiet. A little stiff…”! 😂😂. You win the internet today, Chuck! Priceless! And I soooooo needed the laugh! Thank you! …Be well, Chuck. Stay safe…🙋🏻‍♀️
