Ok, so…I’m hardly the gullable type, but I do believe this may be one of the funniest puns I’ve heard in a while…from my first beak at the cartoon, I’ve been laughing. Maybe because everyone knows that it’s here in NY where Bagels are King…or maybe because it’s funny thinking of Seagulls being in food service, since hygiene definitely doesn’t go hand-in-wing with them…or maybe it’s the accompanying dialogue…”I’ve never had a whole one”? Whatever it is…I’m still laughing…
So, the owner of “The Hole Love”, Steven…Steven Seagull, resplendent in his paper chefs hat, is speaking with his customer, Swoop…Swoop John B…And in answer to Steves query as to whether or not Swoop’d like to try the speciality? …His reply about the “whole one”? It’s a gem! Of course he’s never had a whole one…He’s never bought a Bagel in his life…A whole one? Why would he? Seagulls are so good at flying past and just swooping a bagel right out of an unsuspecting hand. And trust me, it can be a narrow-wing experience! Prey tell…I’m sure it’s happened to anyone who’s ever eaten by the sea. Keeping a seagull at BAY? Rubbish! When it comes to bread? Well good flock with that! And the swoop d’loop isn’t a rarity, either…With them it’s all…you know…birds of a feather…So, the hole thing just quacked me up this morning. What can I say? It’s simply a beak performance on both David and Jeff’s part…
And just in case anyone’s wondering…The hole in the middle of the bagel? It’s not just there for decoration…The hole allows a bagel to have a larger surface area, and that makes it easier to consistently cook a bagel all the way through. And it’s important because bagel dough can be incredibly thick, making it hard to know if the centers are completely cooked, if the hole wasn’t there…Seriously, it’s the truth…There’s no schmear campaign here…
So…Here’s to all the Bagel lovers out there…Enjoy your breakfast…And just in case you’re outdoors…and near the sea? Hold tight to that bagel…Those seagulls are a round for the sand which is there… Be well, Stay safe…🦆🥯🙋🏻♀️
Good morning. Another successful day. No problem with the words but struggled with the cartoon answer. The middle part of the quotation I presumed (never assume) we do know why don’t we, was Gull. Then after awhile I saw Shop for the third part which left me with Bay. Putting it all together gave me the brilliant finish. Who says you can’t teach an Old dog new tricks. You can’t get anybody better to sing that song Angela. Just like Kate Smith for God Bless America. Until tomorrow stay well.

Hi all – (Written as always before I read any comments) HIPPO took a couple of looks for some reason, but the double letter trick solved it. Then it got interesting, because I got misdirected in two ways. First I used the usual UN trick and got UNTAPE – like you’d do to your hockey stick when the game is over. I was suspicious of that but didn’t see an alternative, so tried to solve the answer anyway. GULL was obvious, but I thought he was selling doughnuts, despite the fact that I had a bagel sitting right next to me the HOLE time! One more try gave me PEANUT and the right letters finally showed BAY-GULL SHOP.
Gold stars across the board Angela from Led Zepplin to the hippo in the tutu to the “schmear campaign”.

UN is indeed a prefix meaning “not”. UNtrue means “not true” and UNcertain means “not certain”. UNtape, however, is not a viable use of the prefix. Broken down, it literally means “not tape”.
David is 100% correct. We all have access to his rule book which is the Merriam-Webster dictionary! Feel free to check those “double words” right HERE. If it’s in there, well then you’ve got him. If not, well, better luck next time!
