  1. Good Morning, Everyone. I hope you’re all well…🎩🙋🏻‍♀️

🎶I’m puttin’ on my top hat…Tyin’ up my white tie..brushin’ off my tails…🎶 “Top Hat, White Tie and Tails” – Fred Astaire 1935 https://tinyurl.com/owms8j5

🎩 No reason to look SHODDY…even should you lack a tux,
A man always looks good dressed up…dapper being the crux…
Most need to PURGE their wardrobes though, a DISMAL task to most,
‘Cause likely not much will they find that they’d be proud to boast…
So bon vivant, our porcupine…who found himself hard PRESSed…
Donned his bow tie and proved that he was definitely SHARPLY DRESSED! 🎩

Jeff brought his whimsy to the age-old Tortoise and the Hare, with Shelly challenging Harey by saying “Lets race”, and Rocky Raccoon hilariously telling our main man, Spike the Porcupine that he washes https://tinyurl.com/uu5zj8g all his food thoroughly…(And you can see that the martini-drinking Spike’s not buying it…That glare? If looks could quill)?…But something’s glaringly amiss…The Goose, Silla, and the Gander, Alexgander?…The one at left must be a female right? Dressed in pink, with her plumage coifed into a crown, her neck feathers fashioned into a lacy collar, and wearing a hanging (a goose noose?) pendant as adornment?…She must be…Only thing is…Where are her eyelashes? Her eyelashes are missing!… Something’s definitely afowl 🦆here…

    Be well, Everyone…stay safe….🦆🎩🙋🏻‍♀️

      • Hi Mike. Good Morning. Tks for the link…But did you notice he had shoes on the bed? On the bed??? IDK if it’s just an Italian thing….but oh no, no, no! You never, ever put shoes on the bed!! Hope all is well. Stay safe, Mike. 👞🙋🏻‍♀️

      • I hadn’t noticed the shoes, I was mainly thinking about the title being “SHARP DRESSED Man”. But the shoes are straight out of the box, it doesn’t look like they’ve been worn on the street.

        • Mike…No, that’s just it…New shoes. I’d like to think no one puts worn shoes on a bed! 😉 It has nothing to do with dirt or anything…It’s something about bad luck, or death or something or other. I’d have to ask one of my cousins….I just remember being told it as a kid…that it just must never be done. Maybe it is an Italian thing, IDK…But yes, I’m with you on the song title! 😉 🙋🏻‍♀️

      • Don’t open an umbrella in the house either! 😂 Man, gotta love those early-80’s ZZ top songs and videos, but would this one also be appropriate for “Little Deuce Coupe” by the Beach Boys? (I’m not *that* up on my hot rods)

      • Good afternoon. It’s not just an Italian thing Angela. I was raised the same way. Had to do with bad luck. We were never allowed to play in bedroom with friends. If we were caught on bed in street clothes we got hollered at. It was for sleeping. Take care.

        • Hi Paul. I was looking it up, and I saw that it’s pretty common. And same here with the bed…till this day I still hold true to that. Some storm we just had, huh? There was hail! 🙋🏻‍♀️

  2. 🏚 SHARPLY DRESSED for the closing…he was poised to purchase the DISMAL-looking SHODDY piece of property, when he kept hearing his Fathers voice echoing in his ears…”Don’t PRESS your luck”… and decided to PURGE the whole idea…🏚

🧺 The day did start out DISMAL, clothes to launder and to PRESS,
She wondered how she got herself tied up in this whole mess…
She never thought it would end up a SHODDY thing as this,
She would have been much better off to have remained a Miss…
But looking to PURGE her old life…she married “Pseudo Prince”
And Cinderella she became…the thought just makes her wince…
He so takes her for granted, now she’s tired and she’s stressed,
While he still thinks he’s single…going out all SHARPLY DRESSED…🧺

  3. 🪕I don’t know if any of you are fans of John Prine, but losing him the other day, to the dreaded virus was a sad day for those of us who’ve followed his career. This article appeared in my local paper, the NY Daily News this morning, and you may enjoy it…🪕🙋🏻‍♀️

  4. Good morning. Another quick solve again today. I went straight down the words without a slight hesitation. After putting down the 14 letters and thinking I would have trouble, I immediately thought of Dressed. The remaining letters left me with Sharply for the finish. I’d say the two words could go either way. I was just happy I got it so quick. Enjoyed your song choice and post Angela. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Hey Brooklyn. Good Morning. Thanks.. I’m glad you enjoyed it. And I agree, an easy, breezy one today. Be well, stay safe…🎩🙋🏻‍♀️

    • And Paul…I forgot to say…You’re right, the words could be reversed…7 letters in each. 👍🏻🙋🏻‍♀️

  5. Hi Everyone –
I also had an easy time of it. I enjoyed the Fred Astaire video very much and the article on the great John Prine. I’m really glad I got to see him live for the first time last year thanks to you Angela. I like this performance of his with Bonnie Raitt, which is so sweet at the end. https://tinyurl.com/ss8nm6b

    • Hi Caroline. I always enjoy watching Fred Astaire too. The man had such class…And I was thinking the same thing…that I’m glad I got to see Prine again last year at the Garden. So sad…he caught it from his wife, but he wasn’t strong enough to fight it like she did. It’s a horrendous curse…the number of people it’s leaving in its wake is beyond belief…I cry every day when I hear the numbers…I cry without hearing the numbers…it’s just too much…Thanks for the link, it’s a beautiful memory of him…Be well, Caroline, stay safe. 🎩🙋🏻‍♀️

      • Yes, so sad to hear about all the deaths and what people are going through.
I like looking out my window and watching the animals and greenery come to life.

        • Yes, Caroline..it’s heartbreaking. And I too enjoy looking out my back doors…except besides the trees all coming to life… I see those *&!¥!%#* squirrels! And you know how I feel about them! 😉🙋🏻‍♀️

    • I read this story yesterday – it’s film critic Roger Ebert’s review of an early John Prine concert in 1970 in the Chicago Sun-Times that first brought him a lot of attention. It has several insightful notes on his songs and his life.

  6. These past few weeks, with everything that we’re all going through, the kids must have asked me the same question…a million different ways…“When are things going to be normal again”? “Are things ever gonna be normal again”? “Do you think things will be normal again”? …And I’ve tried reassuring them in a million different ways…even though I’m not sure myself anymore. And then later, when I was alone, I’d cry…But we all want to believe that things will be normal again…that things will go back to the way they used to be…That the things that were constants in our lives would still be there when this is all over…
…And then, last night…”Modern Family” aired its last episode…
And then later, when I was alone, I cried…👋🏻😥🙋🏻‍♀️

  7. No not ” normal” but the ” new normal”. Speaking of Modern Family, I am also a fan, but wasn’t thrilled about last night’s finale. As far as the anagrams, my recollection is that dismal was a recent repeat. All 4 anagrams were a quick solve, as was the cartoon answer, given the presence of the porcupine. Stay safe.

    • Hey Professor, Good Morning. You’re right, Dismal was just used last month, on the 19th. And it will be a new normal…I don’t think things can ever be the same. As for “Modern Family”? I was kind of disappointed too. It seemed somewhat disjointed…maybe even a little contrived..and a little far-fetched too, with everyone going off at the same time. I definitely wouldn’t put it up there with the all-time great finales. But the show that aired before it? The retrospective? That was definitely top-notch. And I really hate to see it go…Be well, Prof. Stay safe. 🎩🙋🏻‍♀️

      • Yes we’re on the same page regarding the final Modern Family episode, and agree that the retrospective show preceding the final episode was good and well worth watching.

        • Yes, Prof…The pre-show was very well done. And I’m so going to miss the laughs the show always gave me. It’s one of the few shows that actually made me LOL! 🙋🏻‍♀️

  8. I dont get the local paper here in Nashville [printed in Knoxville] therefore I like blocking out the answers on the right of the page here and trying to unscramble them. Today you threw me a curve with 2 Y’s and no H in shoddy. Thats ok. Its the first time that I can ever recall that being
    done. Love your site!

    t

    • Hi Ken. Sorry to hear you don’t get a printed copy. But instead of having to cover the answers, you can try this link. It publishes the Jumble each day, usually right after midnight. It does so on Sunday also, but you have to hit on that little black box to the left of the word “Jumble” and scroll down for those. Take a look, and see if you think it might help. If so, just bookmark or save the link into your favorites, and you’ll have it for each day. And I’m glad you enjoy our site, and we appreciate your saying so. Take care, Ken. Be well, stay safe. 🎩🙋🏻‍♀️

  9. Easy one today. I love that the duck is saying “Black Tie doesn’t Mean “Only” A Black Tie“. I’m with you with the shoes on the bed, Angela – Non Mettere le scarpe sul leto – sfortuna! Oh those Italians and their superstitions. Totally understand your sadness. It’s such a difficult time. At some point we will come out of this though as Chuck says, it will be a new normal. Courage and Hope!

    • Yes, paisan! Exactly! The bad luck! So maybe it is an Italian thing? I just called my cousin who’s closest in age to me to ask her, and she said ..”Why? Because Grandma said so”! And there you have it! 😉 As for my sadness, I guess it’s palpable. And I do in my heart want to believe that it’ll pass…but I just find the numbers so overwhelming. Yesterday alone, 779 “more”. MORE. It’s as if we’re losing our humanity just by quoting…But I’m trying my best to cope. ..And yes, hope and courage. And prayer. Be well, Betty. Stay safe…Oh, the puzzle! 😉 Yes, I quacked up at that line too…But then again, how would a porcupine don a tuxedo? Just think of the money his tailor would make! 😉 🙋🏻‍♀️

  10. Hi all – Got the words; recognized DISMAL from seeing it here before. Then I thought the answer might be LOOKING SHARP which almost fit. A quick rearrangement gave the correct one.

Well, the porcupine may be wearing only a black tie, but the other three creatures in the back aren’t wearing shoes, so he’s not the only one underdressed. I love the little martini glass he’s holding, and they didn’t even have to supply a toothpick for the olive; he could just use one of his own quills.

I loved your description of the cartoon scene Angela. Maybe Rocky washes his food with gin to sterilize it (or washes it *down* with gin anyway). The scene also made me think of “Puttin’ On The Ritz”.

    Good wishes to everyone.

“A SHODDY job by the cranberry PRESS operator meant his poor customers each had to spend a DISMAL hour with strainers to PURGE the skins from their juice.” (My family took several trips to the Edaville railroad tourist attraction in South Carver, Mass., right through the cranberry bogs.)

  11. Shoes? No one’s wearing shoes…Jeff doesn’t do this SOLEly for entertainment…he does try to be as accurate as possible! 😂 (Formal wear not withstanding)! But if you look closely, there is a toothpick piercing the olive…I guess Jeff didn’t want to STIR things up by being prejudiced towards Spike! 😉 And the food washing line definitely gave me a laugh. I only learned about that a few years ago, but I think the link explains it well, dispelling another myth. (Not that we’ve ever lost any sleep wondering why a raccoon seeks out water…all under the dam, really)…😉 And your sentence? Art imitating life! 👏🏻👏🏻! Be well, Steve. Stay safe. 🎩🙋🏻‍♀️

    • Ah, it looked to me in the Chronicle like the raccoon was the only one wearing shoes, but I see where it might not be. Have a safe afternoon (and more). 🙋🏻‍♂️
