THEY WERE DEVELOPING THE WOODED PROPERTY FOR HOMES AND BEGINNING TO – – –

SKI DRN MA AOE =
MAKE INROADS

Good Morning, Everyone!       🌲 “COPSE”….OR ROBBERS? 🌲

🎶…. Said we’d be forever….Said it’d never die…How could you love me and leave me and never say goodbye?…Although we’ve come to the END OF THE ROAD…Still I can’t let go, it’s unnatural…You belong to me…I belong to you… 🎶  “End of the Road” – Boyz II Men 1991

🌲 There’s always need for housing…it never seems to end,
There’s always MOOLAH to be spent ’round each and every bend,
There’s agents and there’s contractors..and builders to CAJOLE,
And everyone’s intent is to sit top the totem pole…
The plans are DRAWN, the work begins…the trees will all be razed,
(And SKIER like majestic trees gets cut and it’s out-phased)…
More people and the room they’ll need…population explodes
The woods get cleared for housing…and they call it MAKE INROADS…🌲

Yew know, they’ve been 🎶paving paradise🎶 for so long now, that it’s become second nature. But it’s our “first nature” that we’re losing…All too often we see developments such as this, and the demand just grows. And ironically…this new development is named “The Woods”. …So do all roads lead to Rome? Or is there only one way to destroy the beauty of nature? Wasn’t it Patrick Henry who said…”Give me leafy trees…or give me death”? Remember…something to do with treeson? Yes, I think it was he…Anyway, let’s get our show on the road…

So, as yew may have guessed, it’s MOOLAH that’s caused a few of the Early Birds to pay the price this morning…Not only has it not been seed since way back on May 24th, 2012, but it seems to be a bit of a stumper besides. And as a little oddity, it was also a puzzle answer a month later on June 26th of that same year, when the question was “The cow couldn’t buy the new cowbell because she didn’t have enough…Moolah”…Hmm…I guess David, our illustreeous pundit, had money on his mind during that quarter of 2012, huh? Well, it all adds up to a cute little bit of repartree, don’t you think? And you know how I enjoy that occasional comic releaf with our words…Acornier the better too! Our remaining entrees? We’ve seed them before too, with WARND having doubly covered some ground in the past, appearing exactly as is last September. Oaky…let’s leaf well enough alone…and cedar cartoon…

Into the woods we go this morning, and we come upon a clearing that’s all too poplar a scene today. We see two developers, looking pleased, (seemingly having good chemistree), discussing how they’re progressing nicely with razing the property, and only having a “few more streets to go”. Streets, roads…whatever word best fits your vernacular. Bottom line, they’re happy to MAKE INROADS. Bravo, David…I’ll root for this one!

Eye candy? We see the two land-clearing tractors off to the left, and the dirt road running through the panel. A tree or two…or tree remain standing on each side. But it’s the sign showing the plat that clears it all up fir us…”Coming Soon…The Woods”.  Hmm. Sounds to me that that’s barking up the wrong tree! So, There you have it, Folks! Done! Have a great day, Everyone! …And keep in mind…we reap what we hoe, and sometimes we just end up pineing over it…🌲🙋🏻‍♀️

  1. Hi Everyone –
So true the Joni Mitchell paradise song and what you said, Angela.
I laughed at your mention of the Moolah answer from 2012.
All the words but Drawn gave me trouble, but Moolah was the worst. I only got it after I guessed the first answer word would be Make, which gave me M for one of the circles. The answer took time, too, until I tried In for the beginning of the second word.

    • Hi Caroline. Good Morning. Too much truth, unfortunately…And you and I have definitely spoken about it before. Moolah? I think a lot of people today will realize that it’s a “real” word, albeit purely slang. So I think David figured he’s been going so easy on us, that it was time to BRANCH out…and give us a STUMPer. But kudos 👏🏻👏🏻 for sticking with it! As for the solve, once again, I knew the idiom, (I included the link)..so I got it right off the bat. But going by the letters? It’s ROAD that would drive it home…As I told the Early Birds…it’s a good “not seeing the forest for the TREES”😉 puzzle this morning! And I’m soooo glad to give you a laugh…God knows we can all use one now…🙏🏻! Enjoy the day, Caroline. Hang in there! 🌲🙋🏻‍♀️

  2. I also was wary that moolah might not be a real word.I also thought cajole was jaco-l-e,which yielded the a and o I needed for the cartoon solve,” make inroads”. I figured roads would be in the answer ,but thought road ways rather than inroads at first. After St Patrick’s day and St Joseph’s day,we’re left with a meatless Friday in Lent, have a Happy Fish Day.

    • Good Morning, Professor! Jacole? (Tough getting it past the spellcheck right)?😂 So, can you use it in a sentence? I was golfing fine, until I got to jacole 5? 😉 Yep, corn beef for St Patrick’s, sfingi and zeppole y’day…and today it’s fish. But I’m good with that. I’m doing a cioppino https://tinyurl.com/pgfpnfz. And just this morning I was thinking that between house arrest and stress? I’m probably going to need a whole new wardrobe when this is over…And I don’t even care….Let’s all just stay well. 🌲🙋🏻‍♀️

      • Ok, I got one for you. The 60’s New York City band “The Fugs” had a song which included a line which could be spelled “Do you wear your jacole lot?” 😂

  3. The water SKIER was DRAWN to the idea that he might be able to make a lot of MOOLAH if he could CAJOLE some company into sponsoring him on his quest to jump over barrels.

    • Hi Chuck. Good Morning. 👏🏻👏🏻 Nice! I like the slant! …And I just realized that I didn’t do one this morning. Finding it a little hard to concentrate…Hope you’re doing well, Chuck 🌲🙋🏻‍♀️

      • Hi, Angela. Thanks for the nice words. Hopefully this warmer weather will improve your concentration. Let’s all hope and pray that things improve and we can all get on with our lives. Stay well!! Ya hear?

        • Hey Chuck. You’re very welcome. Truly spoken. And I’m just out of it today…more than usual.😰 I think I’m watching too much news…it’s really getting to me. But yes, hope and prayer. FIR sure. Tks, Chuck. Be well. 🌲🙋🏻‍♀️

  4. Good morning. A real good one today. I do prefer this over the real easy ones. I had trouble with both six letter words of which Cajole was my choice for hardest word. After the first two words I went to the cartoon and knew I needed the M and E for Make as the first word. After a long study I knew the rest of the letters I needed to make Inroads for the second word. My only problem was that I still couldn’t come up with Cajole so it was time to look it up. I can’t think of a time I saw or used that word. Loved the second song Angela. Enjoyed you post. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Hey Brooklyn. Good Afternoon. I’ll make you laugh. Cajole may definitely be your Waterloo! We had it on February 9th…and it bugged you then. Check it out…😉 https://tinyurl.com/rnkce2s I use the word, so it wasn’t a STUMPer to me…Thanks for the Shout Out. For some reason, I had a few songs running thru my mind this morning, but I think it’s because I couldn’t concentrate well. I thought of this one too… https://tinyurl.com/w3fo776…Anyway, I’m glad you enjoyed one at least, and I hope your day’s going well. Stay safe and be well, Brooklyn. 🌲🙋🏻‍♀️

      • Good afternoon. You got me twice Angela. First with only seeing that word six weeks ago Apparently it didn’t make an impression on me then or now. Evidently this thick kraut blocks things out just like the Beatles. You did give me a laugh playing the song knowing I dislike them so much. Take care.

        • ROTFL! Not me, Brooklyn…Cajole! 😂 And kraut? When I’m trying soooo hard to not think of food all day? 😉 How could you??? See, now I want a hot dog…and it’s Friday! Foiled again! 😂😂 And I’m laughing over the Beatles too…And I definitely needed the laugh! Hang in there, Brooklyn! 🌲🙋🏻‍♀️

  5. Good puzzle this morning. Moolah gave me pause because I too thought it was a slang word. Cartoon answer took a bit of pondering as well but eventually I got it so all in all it was a successful day. Hope all of you are well.

    • Hi, Betty. Yes, it is a slang word, but FIR some reason it’s become legit! If Merriam-Webster says so…I guess it’s so! Hope you’re well too, Betty. Stay safe.🌲🙋🏻‍♀️

  6. Hi all – Just happened to see SKIER. I wondered for a second if this was another double-‘I’ word like we were talking about recently but didn’t think so. Then I also saw MOOLAH and wondered whether they would use that, but it didn’t spell anything else, so apparently they did. (Like the school-kid asked, “If ‘burd’ doesn’t spell ‘bird’, what does it spell?) You have to look hard for advantages to being old, but today I got to shop during the ‘early bird’ hours at Whole Foods, and I could recognize an antique expression like MOOLAH (or MALARKEY for that matter if I were sitting around BIDEN my time).
The answer and cartoon reminded me of an observation I heard – that it seems to be common practice to bulldoze an area and then name the housing development for what you just destroyed (“Shady Elms”, “Whispering Pines”, “Pleasant Valley”, etc.)

Love the “copse and robbers” Angela, a word I learned right here!

    Stay safe and sane, everyone!

“When he saw the lift ticket prices, the SKIER was DRAWN to CAJOLE the operator for a discount, and surprisingly did save some MOOLAH when he agreed.”

PS – My newspaper, the East Bay Times, just added David Hoyt’s game ‘Up and Down Words’ to the puzzle page.

    • Hey Steve…You’re going to love the U&D Words. I’ve been doing it for about 2 years now, and I’m hooked. And as FIR Moolah, I got the kids saying it now…so I guess it’ll carry on! 😂 The development names? You’re right. There was an article about it, (maybe the NYT, or my local paper out here)?…a while ago. I’m going to look and see if I saved it. The irony, right? There should be a law! 🤷🏻‍♀️Nice sentence…👏🏻👏🏻. Notice when we get a word like SKIER it becomes a slippery SLOPE? 😉 Limiting to say the least…Hoping you’re staying safe too, Steve. Have a good one. 🌲🙋🏻‍♀️

    • Steve!!! COPSE…I almost forgot! LOL! Tk you.👏🏻👏🏻..You know I had a bet going that you’d pick up on it! 😉 Lou’s convinced that not too many people know the word…and maybe he’s right…but you’d think by now he’d stop doubting me! Poor Baby! 😂 But learned it here? The last time? 😉🙋🏻‍♀️

        • Earl? I have to look..I’m thinking it was me, in an opening poem. I’m going to see if I can locate it. Either way, it’s a fun word! And it just fit so well this morning! 😉🙋🏻‍♀️

  7. Hey people we are stuck at home and we do so enjoy the Jumble each day. But lighten up! Cajole, Moohla ??? Hard stuff on our shelter in place life these days……sorry just venting

    • Jane, you vent all you want! You’re entitled! 😉 But as I said to Caroline earlier, I think David just figured that he’s been going so easy on us lately, that it was time to shake that TREE! So he went out on a LIMB this morning, and toughened up! 😉 But keep in mind, Jane, the puzzles are submitted 5-6 weeks in advance of publication, so it’s just a coincidence. Thanks for commenting…and feel free to come and vent all you’d like. God knows we can all use an outlet! Be well, Jane…and stay safe! 🌲🙋🏻‍♀️

    • Hi Agnes. I’m sure a lot of our readers will agree with you today…but it’s not done often. And it must be near to impossible coming up with so many jumbled words, day in, day out. So if David throws one in every once in awhile, who are we to begrudge him? 😉 It sort of just makes life a little more interesting! Don’t let it get you down, Agnes. We have enough going on FIR that! Enjoy your day, and thanks for commenting. Stay well! 🌲🙋🏻‍♀️

  8. I agree that using slang should be discouraged but after having GOTCHA as a word, I think MOOLAH was inevitable. It’s all about the money.

    • LOL! And we have seen BREAD in a lot of puzzles! You may just be on to something, Ray! 💰💰🙋🏻‍♀️
