PME WOD TAR UTI = WARMED UP TO IT

Good Morning, Everyone! 🔥LOVE ME TINDER…LOVE ME TRUE 🔥

🎶 I really can’t stay (but Baby, it’s cold outside)…I’ve got to go away (but Baby, it’s cold outside)….This evening has been (been hoping that you’d drop in)…So very nice (I’ll hold your hands, they’re just like ice)…🎶 “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” – Dean Martin 1944

🔥 There’s something very comforting ‘bout sitting by a fire,
You watch the flames aburning while the sparks jump higher and higher
Like peacocks PLUME they spread around, and crackling sounds are heard,
As if a FUTILE try is made to escape…how absurd…
You’re WOUND up in a blanket, you snuggle real close to
The other person who’s sharing the fireside with you..
But even if you’re all alone, just looking TOWARD the flame
It brings a kind of peacefulness that may not have a name…
I love my time spent by the hearth…it’s winters place to sit
And many nights I’ve dreamed about how I’ve WARMED UP TO IT 🔥

I’m not sure if maybe I should start with a little disclaimer about my choice of song. What can I say? It’s the first thing that came to mind. It’s a nice song, I sing the sing, I like the song. Does it have some kind of untoward overtones? Well I never thought so…at least not until the PC Police tried planting the seed in my head. It’s just such a beautiful old standard…It’s sweet…it’s romantic. Like our couple here today…Anyway, no offense to anyone..and I wholeheartedly support the causes…but a sentimental old 1944 classic by the incomparable Frank Loesser can’t be a bad thing, can it? Just sayin’…

Ok. Where were we? Words. All new anagrams, all old words…with PLUME stretching back to 2014, and TOWARD coming up as the new kid on the block, with a showing of 03/25/19…and it’s FUTILE that caused two of the Early Birds a whittle bit of a pause. Ok..now let’s heat things up with our cartoon..

Did you get a warm, fuzzy feeling seeing a couple cozying up instead of breaking up like in yesterday’s puzzle? If it wood be up to me, I’d choose the “heat over the defeat” any day. But alas…All’s fire in love and war, so I guess we just have to go with the flow…So, today’s theme: STOVES…they offer a wide range of products. Wood burning, pellets, gas heating, electric heating..and they’re all pretty much the same…to a certain degree. But today we’re torching upon the WOOD STOVE. Finding ourselves at the home of Jumble characters EMBER and WOODY, we see them sitting on a love seat, snuggling up in front of their new wood stove. From our dialogue, we learn that Woody, who can be as stubburn as a mule sometimes, wasn’t all that fired up about making the purchase, and Ember had to put a flame under him to bring him around. She probably convinced him with some tinder words…and perhaps a few smoldering looks..But whatever it took, he’d met his match, and now it’s obvious that’s he’s definitely stoked about the idea, so he’s more than willing to give Ember her flue…I mean due. And check out how content he looks now too…Tell the truth, can’t you just fuel the WARMTH in the atmosfire of that room? Yep, Woodie definitely WARMED UP TO IT! Nicely done, David.

Eye candy? Today it’s pretty much what we see is what we get…She, he, and a cute little pup sharing in the warmth. Some extra wood to keep the fire going…But if you look real closely, you can see some squiggly lines emanating from the stove, denoting the heat it’s generating. Nicely done, Jeff. So, There you have it Folks, Done! Have a great day, Everyone! And here’s to us all keeping those home fires burning! 🔥🙋🏻‍♀️

Oh…And don’t forget to write in today letting us know what questions you may have for David. Just leave your first name and location, so that you’ll be able to get a shout out from our Jumble wordsmith himself…It’s a great chance to get an answer to whatever puzzles you about him…🔠🖊

  1. Good morning. My choice for hardest word is Futile. I was stuck and went to the cartoon and solved it once I saw the letters I had. Knowing the three letters I needed finally gave me the last word. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Good Morning, Brooklyn. We don’t see the word FUTILE every day, so it looks like it may be today’s HOT topic. Have a great day, Paul! 🔥🙋🏻‍♀️

    • Good Morning, Caroline! Kudos! 👏🏻👏🏻 Wishing you a fun day too! 🔥🙋🏻‍♀️

  2. No problem today, even with futile.Toward looked a little strange at first, but that along w the final solution was a quick solve, especially for a Saturday.Speaking of Saturday, first time since before Xmas, that we’re on twin watch duty in Dixon,

    • Good Morning, Professor. Yes, it was a pretty quick solve today, but clever as always. Enjoy the Little Ones, and have a great day! 🔥🙋🏻‍♀️

  3. Hi all – Can’t get much easier than this one.

The picture’s so cozy it strikes a nice “cord”. I thought maybe the guy’s name “wood” be Franklin.
    Have a great day everyone!

“They knew it would be FUTILE to try to divert the PLUME of lava from Kīlauea as it WOUND TOWARD the ocean”.

    • LOL! Franklin’s a a good call! 👏🏻…And I was thinking of naming her CORDelia, but I just couldn’t get HUNG up on it…😉 And your sentence definitely paints a picture…it’s got a LAVA imagery! 😉 I’m just getting a moment to myself, so I think I’ll try my hand at writing something before things here heat up again! Have a great day, Steve! 🔥🙋🏻‍♀️

  4. Easy one today. All in all it’s been a pretty easy week. Agree with you about the song, Angela. I never thought it was offensive and it is my understanding that the new “sanitized” version released last Christmas didn’t go over particularly well but then perhaps that’s only in Kooky Kalifornia! Hope all of you have a good Saturday.

      • Thanks, Steve. I just loved 77 Sunset Strip & Ed Byrnes as well. The clip brought back lots of memories – mostly of running home from school to watch “American Bandstand”

    • Hi Betty. Good Morning. Yes, it was an easy, breezy one today. Heartwarming! The song? I just don’t get it…I think things have gotten so distorted, that we’ve become ridiculously afraid of offending one another…and we’re missing the big picture…Everyone seems to be walking on eggshells, and it’s a little sad. And as for the remake?..IDK. I really like both John Legend and Kelly Clarkson, and I love their music, but I agree with the general consensus about their version. “Appropriateness” doesn’t necessarily mean better…🎶”It’s your body, and your choice…🎶??? Personally? I’ll pass…But then again, it’s just my opinion. So, in keeping with fair play…(there’s that Shakespeare again) 😉 here’s the new version. https://tinyurl.com/rqut6q6. (And damn, that girl can sing)!
As I said earlier, “All’s fire in love and war”…Have a great day, Betty. #Goniners! 🔥🙋🏻‍♀️

      • Thanks, Angela. Yes, indeed, go Niners, though Siri says the Chiefs are going to win. Say it isn’t so.

        • You’re very welcome, Betty! Meh…Siri…I’m not a big believer in the Big Bang Siri…😉 But I am a believer in taking defense over offense…and we’re dealing with the best of the best here. It’s definitely a tough call. And the Chiefs are favored, albeit by a tiny margin. So for me it comes down to the heart vs the head…and I’m still mulling it over! 😉 One things for sure…it’s fired up to be a very interesting game. Let’s hope it lives up to all the hype…🔥🙋🏻‍♀️

    • The Chronicle’s (Brooklyn-born!) head film critic Mick LaSalle had a very insightful column on this titled “You can’t understand ‘Baby, It’s Cold Outside’ unless you understand when it came from”:

      • And there you have it! In a nutshell! And I laugh that he quotes the same line that I did…SMH! Sometimes it really is better just to let sleeping dogs lie…Tks for the article, it’s a keeper! 👏🏻🙋🏻‍♀️

        • Betty, Angela, glad you liked it. I had to laugh about being surprised that there even *was* a next generation! 😂🙋🏻‍♂️

          • Very much so. And yeah, LOL! …He did stretch that one just a wee bit too far! 😂🙋🏻‍♀️

        • About needing the context to understand previous things: There’s one particular lyric that’s always impressed me about that, from Jackson Browne’s “Shadow Dream Song”

🎵”I can’t be bothered now; I cannot eat or drink
          I can’t remember how I used to think”🎵

  5. After having found the beautiful PLUME in the field, the hunter WOUND up making a brave, but FUTILE, attempt TOWARD finding the avian to whom it belonged. I hope Phil Connors keeps that big rat out of the sun tomorrow so that it doesn’t see it’s shadow!

    • LOL! Phil Connors! 👏🏻👏🏻Indeed! Chuck, you know we here on Staten Island have our own little WOODchuck, Staten Island CHUCK, our version of PUNxsutawney Phil. And of course, this being NY…anything can happen…And it always does. First he bit Mike Bloomberg, then his (secret) replacement, his granddaughter Charlotte, was dropped by Bill deBlasio…(and unfortunately she died)…you can’t make this stuff up! The stories are endless…https://tinyurl.com/y7eq3nrt…But I’m definitely with you..especially the part about the “big rat”…I’m soooo anti-rodent of any kind…Anyway, 👏🏻👏🏻 on your sentence…I’m still trying to get a minute to write mine…Hope your day’s going well, Chuck…Enjoy!

        • YW, Chuck. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the CHUCKS bring good news! 🤞🏻🙋🏻‍♀️

  6. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Ever one to PLUME herself over her fashion sense, trying costume jewelry had always been a FUTILE attempt, but she reluctantly decided to test it out… and as she WARMED UP TO IT, she leaned TOWARD the array of brightly-colored brooches…only to feel a pinch…she’d gotten a WOUND…🤷🏻‍♀️

🕺🏻 She labeled him a peacock, the way he’d strut and preen,
A PLUME would suit him perfectly…he just loved to be seen…
His advances all FUTILE, he was WOUND up in himself,
He looked to be a china doll that one placed on a shelf
She watched him as he came TOWARD her, the smugness did exude,
But little did he realize how turned off he made her mood…
    She’d never date a man like this…he thinks he’s a Brad Pitt…
And she knew she couldn’t fathom thinking she’d WARMED UP TO IT 🕺🏻
