HD XI STE GE = EXSIGHTED

Good Morning, Everyone! 👀EYE’M GLAD SHE CLOSED THE LID ON THIS GUY 👀

🎶 Hit the road Jack and don’t you come back no more, no more, no more, no more…Hit the road Jack and don’t you come back no more…🎶 “Hit the Road, Jack” – Ray Charles 1961

👀 You know how when it’s HUMID, you find it hard to breathe?
The days of that are long gone now…as are ones where she’d seethe…
To her today he’s just a STOOGE…trust me there’s nothing vague,
Avoiding him is easy…she now likens him to PLAGUE
The AXIOM established…no more days would she be plighted…
Like ships that pass…no reason for her to get all “EX-SIGHTED”...👀

So…In the blink of an eye, the first month of 2020 is just about coming to a close. And I use the phrase in the blink of an eye for two reasons…But which is more important…Is it one – that I like the idiom, or two – that it’s in keeping with the theme of today’s puzzle? Which one… one or two? One…or two? The first…or the second? Hmm…Lens just say it’s both…Anyway, today we come upon someone who seems to be trying to live up to her New Years resolution to take on an attitude of laser faire…and view life through rose-colored glasses, only it looks like something’s gotten her a little disillusioned. But let’s back up a little and first see what David’s charted out for us today…

Specstacular words, they’re all old favorites this morning, but it’s our anagrams that are giving us a split decision…We’re seeing double with two of them: MOXIA going way back to 01/22/11, and GOTOES last seen on 03/04/19. And I should mention that PLAGUE is spread throughout the years, while HUMID was no sweat to find in July ‘18. And except for a slight tic at PLAGUE, the Early Birds had no problem seeing through the haze this morning…The scrambles were all easily read. So…I think we’ve seen enough here…now let’s take a look at the big picture…

Ok, before we start examining this cartoon, we have to talk about the elephant in the waiting room…There’s those pesky quotation marks staring us smack in the eye…I know, but lens take it easy…Breathe…breathe…you know you can see your way through this…Just focus

So, set in Chi Chi’s Restaurant, our main character, Eyeris is out for dinner with a friend. But just as they’ve settled in, and are beginning to enjoy their margaritas..(you can tell by the glasses), who walks into the cartoons’ frame?..None other than Eyeris’s EX husband, Jack, arm in arm with the new woman he’s set his sights on, D’eyeann. Talk about a sight for bore eyes…And Eyeris is hardly impressed. In fact, just the sight of him is causing her to lose her appetite…Needless to say, Eyeris‘s definitely not “EXSIGHTED” to see him…Way to go, David! You’re a regular visionary!

And now, the eye candy…It’s a true eyeful today, with Jeff giving us seven characters. Besides Eyeris and her friend, Jack and D’eyeann, and the hostess, there’s another couple, silhouetted in black dining in a room at the rear. And our women have two bowls on their table, holding nachos and dip, (but surprisingly, no napkins are visible)… But I think I’m going to give it a shot and go with those margaritas…because if there’s anything in life better than one margarita…it’s two…and who’d want tequila good thing! So, There you have it, Folks! Done! Have a great day, Everyone…I hope you enjoyed the puns…you know how I envision it…the cornea the better…👀🙋🏻‍♀️

Oh…And don’t forget to write in today letting us know what questions you may have for David. Just leave your first name and location, so that you’ll be able to get a shout out from our Jumble wordsmith himself…It’s a great chance to get an answer to whatever puzzles you about him…🔠🖊

  1. Good morning. Again I stumbled on a word which was Axiom. Maybe I should have had breakfast first or even a cup of coffee. The cartoon answer was a breeze. Once you saw the x you knew the outcome. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Good Morning, Brooklyn. EYE’m with you…”X” marked the spot! Hope you enjoyed the breakfast…and here’s to a great day! 👀🙋🏻‍♀️

  2. Hi Everyone –
Plague was a challenge for me. First I came up with Pegula, the name of the Buffalo Bills’ owners and their daughter, a tennis star who recently lost to Serena Williams. I saw ex and ed for the answer, leaving the rest to unscramble. Tricky but fun answer!
For David, I’d like to know if anyone else ever contributes ideas that are used for the Jumble. I’ve also wondered what kind of dog Daisy is. Thanks to you, David as well as Jeff, for brightening our days.

    • Good Morning, Caroline. I like the football 🏈 reference…it’s definitely the right weekend for it! 😉 And good work on the solve! Thanks for your questions, and I wish you a wonderful, day! 👀🙋🏻‍♀️

  3. 🤷🏻‍♀️She definitely lived up to every AXIOM ever spoken about how the HUMID weather affected ones hair…it was like a PLAGUE…and she felt like a STOOGE scrambling to cover it up…trust me…nothing to get EXCITED over…🤷🏻‍♀️

🤷🏻‍♂️They took to calling him a STOOGE, the AXIOM told hold,
And like a PLAGUE it followed him with jeers that would unfold
    And here today it’s HUMID…and wouldn’t you just know…
His hair sticks out like Larry Fine…the frizz easily shown
He’s given up on trying to get it looking righted…
It’s what it is, he’s stuck with it..and definitely not EXCITED…🤷🏻‍♂️

  4. I also wondered if suggestions for a Jumble (words, cartoon picture, cartoon text, solution) are welcome and if so how to submit one? My other questions were how many clue words currently exist and is there a way to see if a word already is in whatever “file” of words?

  5. Easy one again today. I do always love the “ marks. Today’s cartoon was pretty much a given since there was an X in the choices. Happy Friday to all!

    • I love them too, Betty. And there was no denying that “X”. Happy Friday to you too! 👀🙋🏻‍♀️

  6. Hi all – Got STOOGE via the double letter trick and saw the rest. In the answer, the EX was given and it had to end in ED, so the rest of the letters showed it.

What I felt from the cartoon was a bit of wistful nostalgia, because it looks just like one of my favorite restaurants right down to the arched windows and doorway, “Mexicali Rose” in Oakland, which closed in June of 2018 after 91 years!

    Have a great day, everyone!

Hey Angela, I didn’t know that Jack and D’eyeann would eat Mexican food – I thought they just liked chili dogs down at the Tasty Freeze. Sad to see that they broke up – D’eyeann turned into a “Cougar”, and John’s eking out a living picking cantaloupes down at the melon camp. 😉

“Only a STOOGE would take the travel site’s discount to the hot city knowing the AXIOM that the PLAGUE spreads more quickly in HUMID conditions”.

    • ROTFL! 👏🏻👏🏻 At the Melon Camp! Well played, Sir! …And I knew you’d catch it.. 😉 https://tinyurl.com/nu7uxca. One of my favorites…And I hear you with the restaurant. I had a place I loved in Brooklyn that met the same fate..(along with the same decor, despite it being Italian)! 😉..and it still hurts every time I drive by…Have a good one, Steve…and this one’s for you… https://tinyurl.com/urpfqd6 💃🏻🙋🏻‍♀️

      • Thanks for the links! That “Jack and Diane” video about sums it up, doesn’t it? Oh well, “life goes on”. I thought you might say that the Lou’s told you nobody would get it.
And Gene Autry; the man did get around, didn’t he? It reminded me that another thing I liked about the Mexicali Rose was that it had a great jukebox, but I never heard that song played on it; it was often mariachi music but had a good selection.

        • You’re very welcome. Yep, it does. And as much as I love the song, it always makes me a little sad. And no, LOL..the Lous weren’t LOOKING over my shoulder this morning..😉 they were already out shopping for the Super Bowl. 🎶Mexicali Rose🎶 was a song my Father used to whistle…and the Gene Autry 78 is in the vault….But my place never had any juke boxes or mariachi music…just a lot of Sinatra and Roselli. Sigh..😥🙋🏻‍♀️

        • Steve..I forgot to mention. I know you don’t watch much network TV, but there’s a show, “Blackish”, where the couple, Tracee Ellis Ross and Anthony Anderson have five kids, including a set of twins, Jack and Diane…named after Mellencamps song…And every time in the show that they’re spoken of as such? The song starts playing in my head…The old Reel-to-REAL! 😉🙋🏻‍♀️

  7. Angela and Mike, my biggest question for David was answered in the last video (about how they got their Jumble jobs). I think I’ll just ask this – what are Daisy Dog’s favorite food, toy and activity, and has she ever been chased in Lincoln Park by a big-city squirrel like I almost was a few times walking home on the North Side? 😂🙋🏻‍♂️

  8. David…With so many of Americanas tried and true idioms going by the wayside…are you concerned that some of the puzzle solutions are going to start becoming obsolete, and as a result cause your younger players to feel they’re biting off more than they can chew…and throw in the towel? 😉 🙋🏻‍♀️
