CARTOON ANSWER:

THE COURTROOM WAS BRAND-NEW, AND THE JUDGE WAS READY TO – – –

YEA IV TT GRI = GIVE IT A TRY

Happy Wednesday Jumble fans!  No big surprises this morning as all of the clue words have been used before.  And pretty recently too.  HYENA is the oldest with a gameplay date of 11/10/18 while BITTER last dropped by on 5/19/19.  BREGLI was the hardest for me to get but it eventually give itself up after a robust cross-examination.  I can easily imagine David pleading to the court for a mistrial based upon my badgering of his clients.  “There’s no escaping Jumble Justice, Mr. Hoyt!”  “Your anagrams must pay for their misdeeds!”

Our cartoon wasn’t overly complex and it provided just enough detail for me to easily reach a verdict.  Almost an open-and-shut case.  In the panel we see that our judge is overjoyed by her new digs as she signals for the bailiff to bring in the first case.  He wastes no time with his reply and Jumble Justice will soon be exacted once again.

Her bench isn’t overly ornate and I get the feeling that she just might be a minimalist.  The scales of justice were the only decoration in the room and the bailiff had a small patch on his arm that featured them too.  There wasn’t much else that jumped out at me except maybe the 8-seats of the jury box in the foreground and her big comfy chair.

The final solve was an anagram consisting of 10-letters.  It was 2-letters shorter than yesterday’s layout but I was happy to see that the guys kept the small words as part of the answer.  No gimmes allowed!  At first glance I thought I might have spotted GAVEL but upon closer inspection the L was nowhere to be found.  My misdirection wasn’t in vain as GAVE allowed me to see GIVE and that really got the ball rolling.  TRY made good use of the Y and the last 2 words almost filled themselves in.  The final answer hasn’t been used before and that’s always appreciated.  Have a wonderful Wednesday, and I’ll see you right back here tomorrow!

  1. Good morning. Today was a good one for me. I had trouble with three of the four words with Hyena being the hardest In fact I solved the cartoon and knowing the three letters I finally backed into the word. I was out of blueberries for my cereal so I’ll use that excuse for slowing me down. Until tomorrow stay well.

      • Good morning. Thanks Mike. Always enjoy reading what you say. You guys are a breath of fresh air and look forward to starting the day off. Thank you for your hard work.

  2. I solved the Jumble but I am embarrassed to admit “I don’t get it.”. If the final answer was “GIVE IT A TRIAL”,I would see the pun.

    • Hey Gary P. How about GIVE IT A “TRY-AL”? That would please the quote and hyphen afficiados

      • I finally did understand what the pun was. TRY was meant as in “try a case in court”. I guess I was a little off my game today. I appreciate your response.

  3. Three tough words today. I eventually got Gerbil and Hyena, mainly because I remembered them from past Jumbles. I had to back into Waive so that got my vote. Wishing all a great day.

  4. Good Morning, Everyone! TRYing out a new Court Room…to TRY a new case? Let’s hope it goes off without a fLAW! Have a great day, Everyone! 🧑🏻‍⚖️🙋🏻‍♀️

🐺🐀The HYENA and the GERBIL were both dragged into court,
And one agreed to WAIVE their rights, at least he did purport…
The new courtroom the venue, in which to try the case,
Despite who might be BITTER…one would be put in his place
The Judge not new to things like this, they satisfied her quench,
For justice as it should be, cases tried while on her bench…
So this day she was ready, and she let out with a cry…
“Bailiff bring in my first case…let me GIVE IT A TRY”! 🐀🐺

    • Oops..I forgot this! Guilty as charged! 🧑🏻‍⚖️ 🙋🏻‍♀️

🎶Everybody has a dream that they hold on to…But what can they do, to make it come true?
Everybody has a whole lot of life to live…But you’ve got to sit back…Oh, you gotta relax! Just GIVE IT A TRY…GIVE IT A TRY….🎶 “Give It a Try” – Ringo Starr 2008 https://tinyurl.com/r9k53fv

  5. The words were easy, the solve came quickly. My cold solve would have been CALL IT A DAY as if the judge were ready to quit before he started. The letters, of course, instantly dissuaded me and I couldn’t even GIVE IT A TRY.

  6. Hyena & Gerbil have tripped me up in the past, but I got them today. Easy cartoon answer as well. So far Monday’s puzzle was the most difficult one of the week. Have a good day Jumble fans.

  7. 🙅🏻‍♀️She refused to WAIVE her feelings with this…just the thought of having a HYENA around was enough to push her over the edge, as she was already BITTER about the GERBIL…so she asked him if he was really willing to test that last nerve and GIVE IT A TRY…🙅🏻‍♀️

🤷🏻‍♀️The GERBIL was real quiet so the teacher told the class,
That everybody had to rest…she hoped the questions passed…
She knew that she would WAIVE it all if something went askew
She didn’t want a BITTER scene from the school boards milieu…
She laughed like a HYENA when they said the choice was hers
Knowing that they would blame her, she’d already heard the slurs…
So she tried to stay indifferent, let bygones just go by…
And said yes about the gerbil… agreed she’d GIVE IT A TRY…🤷🏻‍♀️

  8. Hyena was a snap, but not so with gerbil.Even given the cartoon solution, and knowing the letters I needed, gerbil was a stumper.

  9. This was a great puzzle etc. Your detailed explanation is wonderful and so welcome on this drippy, rainy day

  10. Hi all – I recognized HYENA and GERBIL just from having seen them here and in Giant Jumble Crosswords and Word Search World Traveler so often, and the double letter trick made BITTER an instant solve. No so with WAIVE – even working backwards took me awhile, probably because I got stuck seeing WAVE.

    Have a great day, everyone!
