Happy Tuesday, Jumble fans. Today’s final solve was absolute perfection, but you had to know a little geography to get there! The passenger mentioning the New Year’s Eve ball and the visual clue of the Times Tower were big clues too. If you’ve never been, Times Square can be overwhelming, and somewhat chaotic, depending on the time of day that you visit. My first experience was during a weekend trip to watch the Red Sox and Yankees play. We arrived during the early evening hours and my breath was completely taken away. All of the billboards, news tickers, and the mixture of colorful lights and people make it a must see attraction and an unforgettable experience.

David is on fire with new clue words this week. He added two yesterday and goes on to add another one today. BUNGEE makes its debut into gameplay, but by working the anagram backwards, BUN was nestled together to spell out half of the answer for us. The other three were just a bit too easy to decipher, but finishing them up quickly left me more time to appreciate our wonderful cartoon.

I really enjoyed the perspective on this piece, and the fact that Jeff had the woman taking a ride in an iconic yellow taxi only added to its realism. The price that she paid for the lift was only $8, and it might surprise you to learn that the fare for a standard trip in Manhattan is only $10! As I mentioned before, the location in the dialogue was very important to the final solve. Since Times Square wasn’t mentioned anywhere in the panel, I knew that one or perhaps both words would somehow appear in the final answer. Did you notice the “JUMBLE 65” on the billboard? With 2019 being the 65th Anniversary of the Jumble, it was only fitting that Jeff had it prominently displayed at “The Crossroads of the World” for everyone to see!

The final solve was a generous 13-letters in length and had one word in quotations. The Q allowed me to find SQUARE almost instantaneously, with the rest of the solution being easily sussed out of the remaining letters.

Before I finish up for today, be sure to go visit the Official Jumble page over on Facebook. They updated the page with a graphic that lets us know that Guest Jumbler Week #7 is scheduled for November 18-23. There are also a few visual clues as to who some of the guests might be. Have a terrific Tuesday, and I’ll see you right back here tomorrow!

  1. Good Morning, Mike and Everyone. Have a great day! 🚕🙋🏻‍♀️

TIMES SQUARE…Where years ago we had quite the unsavory element, today we have the Elmos, the Spider-Men, the Naked Cowboy and the gigantic billboards…Granted, some unsavory still…but at least now you can sit and rest while looking over the spectacle…😉…definitely an improvement. But to us, it’s the heart of NYC…and believe me, nothing…and I mean NOTHING else compares…

🎶In the HEART of little old NEW YORK, you’ll find a thoroughfare…It’s the part of little old NEW YORK that runs into TIMES SQUARE…A crazy quilt that “Wall Street Jack” built…If you’ve got a little time to spare…I want to take you there….🎶 “42nd Street” …(written by) Harry Warren and Al Dublin 1933…(performed by) 1980 Broadway Cast

🚕 A NY native born and bred, Times Square was just a given,
    I’d be a FRAUD if I blew this…AFRAID I’d be out driven…
For those who aren’t familiar…Times Square runs across town,
    From 42nd Street, five blocks…the area’s renown.
The junction of our Broadway where 7th Avenue meets,
    It’s quite a QUEST to navigate…at times a downright feat…
The sights can be amazing, a BUNGEE jump compares,
Excitement tinged with wonder…it’s part of the fun fare…
But New Years Eve, there’s no way that a cab would ever take ya,
That close to see the Ball drop and the price? They’d definitely rake ya…
So One Times Square, iconic yes, on Bucket Lists appears…
And Jumble 65 featured? …I guess that’s FARE AND SQUARE…🚕

    ….Ok..Cue THAT traveling music…

  2. Bungee? Not much room to stretch! 😉🙋🏻‍♀️
AFRAID of being accused of not playing FARE AND SQUARE, he reluctantly agreed to take on the QUEST of investigating the accusations of FRAUD against the BUNGEE Jumping Company…

  3. His QUEST to become the first person to BUNGEE jump into a volcano had to be attempted or people would consider him to be a FRAUD and he would be AFRAID to ever show his face in public ever again.

  4. Good morning. Thanks Mike for your interesting post. I didn’t realize the clues given. It took me a second reading before it hit home. Had to get Bungee, not a word we see often. The cartoon answer took some time to get. Once I was sure the quotation word was Fare the rest finally came. Until tomorrow stay well.

  5. Hi Everyone –
Bungee, like canola previously, is missing from my 1988 dictionary. Mine has lost some pages, too, so I guess it’s time to start looking for a new one. Very clever one today.

  6. After looking at our cartoon two TIMES today, I found two little pieces of eye candy that were right on point. On the One Times Square Building, under the Ball, Jeff printed a tiny 2019…and our Taxi Driver has 4 ear piercings…one stud, and three small hoops…trendy. Nice details. 👏🏻👏🏻🙋🏻‍♀️

      • You know the joke’s already being bandied about…”So what do you see for yourself next year”….”Nothing really…I don’t have 2020 vision..,” 🤦🏻‍♀️

  7. Hi all – Paused at the last word. I was going to say that it was funny that the double letter trick produced BUN-GEE until I realized that that was the actual answer! The only other thing I had was 🎵”When they begin the BEGUNE..”🎵
Took a second to realize they were talking about Times Square. When “Time” didn’t work, the answer appeared.

My first thought was to ask Angela how far $8 would get you – maybe a block and a half? If the standard fare is $10, my question is either how long is that, or what’s the catch? Then, overthinking this, I noticed she was paying with a mag-stripe credit card instead of a chip card or a phone app, so maybe it was set in the past. One other question – does seeing the ball mean it’s 12/31, or do they set it up ahead of time? (That’s sure a lot of questions, and I’m not even from Fort Lee, NJ!)

    Have a great day, everyone!

    • LOL…I was humming 🎶Begin the Beguine🎶 early this morning too! I just might dig it out of the vault..The FARE? In my experience? In NYC, $10 doesn’t get you much, let alone $8. And a cab ride? I’m not positive, but I think it’s $3 now, as soon as you get in. And then there’s all the “waiting time” ..you pay for all of it..And in Manhattan traffic? Let’s just say bring a book..😉. As for the Ball, it’s “brought up” around 6PM. They raise it up and there’s some kind of celebration…there’s a “6 hours to go countdown” and there’s hats and glasses depicting the year and balloons and a ton of stuff given out…so yes, “seeing the ball means it’s 12/31”..And now you better hope the Fort Lee residents don’t come looking for you! 😂😂Have a good one, Steve..🎈🎉🙋🏻‍♀️

    • Oh, Steve…Sorry, I forgot to say. The card may very well be a chip one, she’s just holding it turned to the reverse strip side. But as for being set in the past, Jeff put a 2019 up there…so that answers that! 😉🙋🏻‍♀️

      • Thanks Angela. For a minute I wondered whether I was being a bit TOO cynical about the prices, but I guess not! If I take a cab I’ll bring a Kinks song instead of a book – 🎵”So tired, Tired of waiting…”🎵

And I also guess I got my vision repaired this year to 20/20 just in time! 😂🙋🏻‍♂️

        • …I’d still bring that book! 😉 And bet we’ll be hearing about that 20/20 ‘till it comes out of our ears! (No pun intended)😉🙋🏻‍♀️

  8. Thanks Angela for that second song by Mr Sinatra. Now that’s worth seeing and listening to. Can’t think of anybody doing it better. Until tomorrow.

    • You know it Brooklyn. I could listen to it all day…Have a great night…🎶🙋🏻‍♀️

  9. I thought BUNGEE was a new clue word because I did not remember it. Most times if I do not recall a word it does turn out to be new. I wish there was a “jumble” site where I could enter a word and see if it has been used. Every time I read or hear an “uncommon” word (that I do not remember used in Jumble) I write it down. Then I use a website where you enter a word and it lists how many words can match all the letters of the one I input. Today it was ALIGHT (only 1 match). A few other recent ones are USABLE, CRISIS, NIMBLE, CANON, and (ironic?) JUMBLE.

    • That would be a handy tool, Gary! I’ve been keeping track for the five years or so that I’ve been posting and the database is already quite large. I may not get them right every day, but please know that I make every effort to research each one the best that I can. 🙂
