Jumble Answers for 10/31/2019

Ghoul morning, Jumble friends, and HaPpY hAlLoWeEn!!! Today’s puzzle was both seasonally satisfying and a disguised PSA all wrapped into one. Jeff may have lured us in with Vlad and Frank, but it was the “silent killer” that was the scariest of all.

Hypertension, often referred to as high blood pressure, has no obvious symptoms to indicate that something is wrong until it has done significant damage to the heart and arteries. It’s estimated that 20% of Americans who have HBP don’t even know it and that’s particularly disturbing because it causes approximately 60,000 deaths per year. Don’t let yourself take the first step into becoming a zombie and be sure to get yours checked (at least) annually!

There weren’t any tricks or surprises when it came to today’s words. NBEIOV was the only one to temporarily slow me down, but I didn’t have a cow over it! POSTAL was the eldest member of our frightful-four with an appearance way back on 9/9/14. DRESS was the same anagram as the last time we saw it on 10/25/17, but David used a bit of wizardry on the remaining three and transformed them into brand-new nightmares.

The setting for today’s panel was an exam room where we see an interaction between a doctor and patient. The “doctor” in this scenario is Victor Frankenstein’s monster, and the “patient” is the fictional vampire known as Dracula. Drac seems a bit stressed out, but he has a good rapport with his physician and doesn’t hesitate to tell him that the stress of Halloween is taking its toll. The monster offers up a prescription for some O positive blood in an attempt to cure the Count’s calamity.

Jeff’s seasonally-themed cartoons are my absolute favorite, and he didn’t disappoint with today’s creepy creation. The exam room was pain-stake-ingly crafted to have most of the tools that you would expect to see in a proper exam room. The cabinet in the background had two containers sitting on top of it. One was filled with cotton balls and the other had tongue depressors. The exam table took up a good portion of the room and it was hilarious to find that Jeff didn’t forget the sanitary paper topper. My favorite detail was the covering being worn by our fang-faced friend. He doesn’t seem quite so scary when he’s in a gown adorned with 27 flowers!

The final solve was an anagram consisting of 13-letters. The layout kept the answer extremely well hidden, but the cartoon mentioning O Positive gave it all away. Once BLOOD was extracted from the letters, PRESSURE popped into view for the finish. Have a Happy Halloween, and I’ll see you right back here tomorrow!

  1. Good Morning, Mike and Everyone! It’s Halloween! And what A POSITIVE reaction I have to this GHOUL puzzle the Guys have given us! We should have known they wouldn’t TRICK us by letting the day go by without TAKING A BITE out of a Halloween TREAT. I laughed so hard this morning I started COFFIN and almost choked on my STAKE and eggs! So FANG you, Guys! And let’s all be careful out there today…Avoid the blues…look out for the Dracs and Frank’s, (even if they do look so familiar), and don’t go STICKING YOUR NECK out in VEIN! Have a BOOtiful day, Everyone…Here’s hoping it doesn’t SUCK! 🧛🏻‍♂️🙋🏻

🎶 Out from his coffin, DRAC’s voice did ring…(Wah-ooo.)…Seems he was troubled by just one thing….(Wah-ooo-wah-ooo.). He opened the lid and shook his fist…(Wah-ooo)…And said:…”Whatever happened to my TRANSYLVANIA twist?” It’s now the Mash…It’s now the MONSTER Mash…🎶 “Monster Mash” – Bobby Pickett 1962 https://tinyurl.com/o3y2kox

🧛🏻‍♂️ Blood Pressure woes are something with which we may relate,
And like our Count here, can spike high with something that we ate…
I personally watch my salt, and fat from a BOVINE,
I’d rather curtail those things…then do without my wine!
Count Dracula we all know well, his looks, his wiles, his DRESS,
Bram Stoker made him debonair, to carry out his mess…
Not FURRY like the Wolfman, nor ugly like big Frank…
No, Dracula appeared normal…until your neck he yanked!
He may have been one of the first to go what we call POSTAL,
Seduction intertwined with harm…it made him very boastful.
The Count’s MO? A woman…and he liked them all the flesher…
A neck man from the very start…worried about BLOOD PRESSURE! 🧛🏻‍♂️

And a tip of the cap🧢to the Miracle Nats.
You never forget your first! ⚾️ 🏆

    Happy Halloween, Everyone! 🧛🏻‍♂️🎃🙋🏻

  2. When the rural POSTAL patron went out to check her mail, a FURRY creature jumped out of the mailbox onto her DRESS creating a scream that made her BLOOD PRESSURE soar and even startled the BOVINE munching grass across the road.

  3. Hi Chuck! Happy Halloween! I love how you got the answer in there too! 👏🏻👏🏻 It’s a BLOODy good one today, isn’t it? Here’s what I DUG UP…Have a great Halloween! 🧛🏻‍♂️🙋🏻

📬 Having received a package that was adDRESSed incorrectly, she looked for her POSTAL person to return the FURRY BOVINE for her…but after three days, her BLOOID PRESSURE rose so badly, she just returned it herself…📬

👗 She took a good look at the DRESS, the FURRY sleeves she loved,
The POSTAL Ball was coming up…she’s going push come shove…
She likes the shade of brown it is, a BOVINE comes to mind,
It has to be real special, a true one of a kind…
They’ll look to her to top last year, ‘gainst that they’re ‘gonna measure…
The stress level to pick this dress…is raising her BLOOD PRESSURE! 👗

  4. Double letters have been running wild, just like deuces in poker, with furry and dress in the anagrams.Bovine gave me a slight pause but popped ( another double letter word)into my head quickly .Given the presence of Dracula on Halloween, blood was a given, quickly followed by pressure, for the blind puzzle solution. On a weather note, our 3 in of snow ,makes Halloween look like Xmas. With the 2 snowfalls ,we had in April, and today’s in October,it was one of the shortest snow free periods we’ve had in W Central Illinois.

  5. Really cute puzzle this morning. I do like the holiday themed offerings. The merchants in our neighborhood give out treats all day long and there is a Halloween parade of preschoolers at ten o’clock. It’s always fun to watch. Happy Halloween to all. 🎃

    • Hey Betty, about that Warriors package we shipped you last summer. I knew some of the contents had been damaged, but I think I should have checked even more carefully. It seems Oakland also slipped in a curse for leaving us; sorry about that.

  6. Thank you for the PSA (Public Service Announcement) regarding high blood pressure. I would like to give my own PSA about men getting a PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) test that can indicate the risk of prostate cancer. If caught early, there are several treatments that can stop progression and lower your PSA number to safe levels. I say this from my own experience. Also, I was surprised to hear men I worked with who were much younger than me say that they also had to be treated. This is way off topic and I hope this comment is taken in the way I intended it.

  7. Hi all – Not scary at all today; POSTAL just took an extra look. Pretty wallpaper, Mike! Made me laugh with “pain-stake-ingly”.

My favorite detail was seeing Drac’s cape and shoes by the wall. And vampires got socks! Who knew? I’m glad Frank has a stethoscope – he should also check his patient’s lungs to see whether he needs to give Vlad the Inhaler.

Great song Angela, and I particularly liked the “Coffin” and “Stake”. I guess we shouldn’t ask Drac how he likes his Stake and eggs.

    Happy Halloween, everyone!
Song from the Ceiling at Peet’s today – Paul McCartney’s “Blackbird” from the Beatles’ White Album.

“The POSTAL worker wanted to DRESS as a BOVINE on his Halloween route, but his BLOOD PRESSURE rose when he saw that all they had left were FURRY costumes.

    • Vlad the Inhaler just might be the funniest thing I’ve heard today, Steve!!!

The wallpaper will stick around for one day only. Do you have a color suggestion for tomorrow? I’m ready to ditch the blue for something a little more autumnal. 🦃

      • Thanks Mike! I don’t really have any fashion suggestions for tomorrow. I used to have a cornucopia-type background on my Windows desktop at work during November, but I lost track of it when I retired and switched to tablets. Hope you and your family have fun tonight. My plans are to watch the 49ers game. 🙋🏻‍♂️

        • Our town had trick-or-treat last night so I’ve already moved on to Thanksgiving!

It’ll be an interesting game for sure and maybe I’ll be up to catch the first half. Hopefully your 49ers will hold on to that big, beautiful goose egg in the L column! 😉

  8. I finally got one this week. POSTAL made me smile, BOVINE made me laugh. Why? don’t know, just think it’s a funny word. The solve was easy; I’m a happy CANINE. Well as the Timberwolves told the 76rs –
