CARTOON ANSWER:

THE FARMER TALKED TO THE HENS AND LIKED TO – – –

GOM GT EN HE =
EGG THEM ON

Happy Tuesday, Jumble fans. It sure looks like there’s some shenanEGGins going on in that henhouse! But we all know talk is cheep, and those hens don’t look like spring chickens anymore. I’m afraid that this farmer is pushing the henvelope with his poultry request and he’s about to learn a hard lesson in eggonomics!

There weren’t any new clue words this morning, but David did impress with an hensemble of four brand new anagrams. You can’t beat that! They all solved pretty easily though, and I didn’t pause on a single one. Numbers that are spelled out have stumped me in the past so I’ll choose ELEVEN as the most difficult anagram for today. It was also our most recent repeat with an appearance on 5/6/19, while CHERRY clocks in as the oldest and was last seen on 1/10/10. After solving all of the words, it was interesting to find that they were in reverse alphabetical order.

Today’s cartoon was simple in nature so there’s no need to give a comprehensive explanation of it. There were several unique details that Jeff added to make it visually entertaining so I’ll focus on those instead. The farmer is obviously a Green Bay Packers fan with the teams “G” logo emblazoned on the front of his netback hat. The action line under his left arm indicated that his request is animated, and the different expressions on the hens faces, along with their body language, tells us how each chicken interpreted his statement. My favorite detail was just outside the hentrance to the coop, and on top of the house is a rooster that seems to be serving as an alarm cluck!

The final solve was an anagram consisting 9-letters. I saw both EGG and HEN in the layout so I wasn’t sure which word to work with first. Luckily I chose EGG, and the rest of the solution fell neatly into place. It was a quick solve this morning, but the payoff was funny enough to prove that David and Jeff are a couple of practical yolkers! Have a terrific Tuesday, and I’ll see you right back here tomorrow.

  1. Good Morning, Mike. Good Morning, Everyone…Have a great day! ๐Ÿฃ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

    ๐ŸŽ“ Since they could only GROOM one candidate from the pool of ELEVEN, the committee began to EGG THEM ON, knowing it would be the CHERRY on the cake if their department went on to win the GRANT…๐ŸŽ“

    ๐Ÿ‘ฐ๐ŸปThe wedding was supposed to start ELEVEN on the dot…
    And wearing CHERRY-colored dresses, the bridesmaids were getting hot,
    They didnโ€™t mind to GRANT the GROOM ten minutes, maybe more…
    But itโ€™s been โ€˜oer an hour, and heโ€™s not come thru the door…
    Could it be possible thatโ€™s he become a Darting Don?
    They’re wondering while waiting… is this just to EGG THEM ON? ๐Ÿ‘ฐ๐Ÿป

  2. Good morning. Two days straight we were handed an easy jumble. This might have been easier than yesterday. Once the letters were put down and I read the cartoon answer it was an instant solve. Not complaining,now I can enjoy breakfast with no stress. Angela,loved your usage on the words in both sentences. Until tomorrow stay well

  3. Hi Everyone –
    Eleven has bothered me in the past but not today. You’re right about “eggonomics,” Mike. Just this morning there was an article in the paper about an “egg glut” pushing prices down.

  4. I also found today’s anagrams and puzzle easier than yesterday.Seems like a lot of e’s in the letters lately with geese being an anagram solution several days ago,and eleven today.I liked the comment about the eleven anagram solution,and the farmer looking for a dozen or 12 eggs,so where did the missing egg go?Scrambled or fried would be a possibility.

    • Hi Professor…I agree, it was an easy, breezy puzzle today. And a cute one besides, But the missing egg? Weโ€™re here playing the SCRAMBLED Word Game..HENce SCRAMBLED!!!๐Ÿ˜‰

      • Well, I had to check, of course. ๐Ÿ˜‚ The East Bay Times has it and the Chronicle doesnโ€™t. There was that one time recently where the Chron messed up the formatting and printed two different style headers at the top of the cartoon. ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

  5. Hi all – Just a slight pause at CHERRY, then thought โ€œChew the fatโ€ for the answer, but the cartoon gave away EGG and the rest.

    My question from the hens would be โ€œWhatโ€™s in it for me?โ€, but I guess the answer would just be โ€œNot being Sunday dinner.โ€

    Have a great day everyone! For those who have the Just Jumble app, they posted an update yesterday.

    โ€œHe tried to GROOM the ELEVEN acres of CHERRY trees on his land-GRANT farm and EGG THEM ON, but failed because it had been a Superfund Siteโ€.

  6. Steve & Angela – your comments remind me of that old song” Keep you sunny side up up, hide the side that gets blue. If you have nine sons in a row, baseball teams make money you know.” The last line is “Stand upon your legs, be like two fried eggs, keep your sunny side up.”

    • Hi Betty…Youโ€™re right on the money! And I know I say this a lot, but I sing this with the kids too…๐Ÿ˜‰ They all love sunny side up eggs, while I abhor them. So it started one day, and now itโ€™s become a habit at breakfast..l just love hearing them giggle at silly lyrics…๐Ÿ’• Hope youโ€™re having a great day…๐Ÿฃ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

      There’s one thing to think of when you’re blue,
      There are others around much worse off than you!
      If a load of troubles should arrive,
      Laugh and say, “It’s great to be alive!”;

      *** And keep your sunny side up, up,
      Hide the side that gets blue.
      If you have nine sons in a row,
      Baseball teams make money, you know!

      Keep your funny side up, up,
      Let your laughter come through, do!
      Stand up on your legs,
      Be like two fried eggs,
      Keep your sunny side up! ***

      Life can be a pleasure or a pain,
      Good or bad, successful or in vain;
      Happiness is just a point of view,
      If you have it here’s the thing to do;

      Keep your sunny side up, up,
      Drown a frown with a smile.
      If you think it’s raining for you,
      Just remember, others are blue.

      Always look for the bright side,
      Start the day on the right side;
      You’ll find life worthwhile,
      Learn to wear a smile,
      Keep your sunny side up!

    • Betty…PS: My books finally arrived Saturday. I have no idea why it took so long. But the box was huge! With so much brown packing paper inside. I have to say, they definitely gave you your money’s worth as far as shipping costs went! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Two are for gifts, but I havenโ€™t done any puzzles in mine yet…I hate marring the book! ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

      • Yes, my book was thoroughly packed as well. Iโ€™ve done a few of the puzzles. Just downloaded the latest Jumble selection though Iโ€™m still working on the Jumble Crossword app. – there are a ton of puzzles on it – the E puzzles take me some time. Lots of fun and addicting.

      • Yours too? Very well packed! LOL! The X-Word is an excellent app. And yes, the Eโ€™s are the most challenging. Iโ€™m glad that some more puzzles were added, because I went through it all way too quickly, Iโ€™m treading very lightly this time!๐Ÿ˜‰ And I havenโ€™t even touched the new Jumble updates yet either…Iโ€™m trying sooooo hard to not devour them. Itโ€™s like doing penance…๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป
