That underwater ‘cross the Seine? It’s been done by no one…
But our guy feels the ACCESS would prove that he could do,
What borders on insanity…he thinks it to be true.

While I didn’t really do a DEEP, DEEP search this morning, I can say that none of our words SURFACED as new, yet something did come up as FUNNY…FUNNY! I only found it one time in the Archives, on 10/05/16. But I’m sure such a common everyday word had to be in play before than…Anyway, the anagram that day? You guessed it…NUYFN. And funnier still, it’s not the only anagram repeated today. ACCESS, last seen in 2017, was in play on 11/16/15 and 08/03/16, where it appeared both times as it does today: SECASC, and with an appearance in 2014, I’m dubbing it our oldest entry. FICKLE showed up twice in 2017, and GRIPE, RISES TO THE TOP, with the most recent showing of 06/14/19. And it was clear SAILING with all our words this morning..in fact it went quite SWIMMINGLY…So, NAUT to waste any more time…it’s on to our cartoon.
Finding ourselves back in Paris, which we recently visited on August 22nd, we see two Jumble characters, standing perhaps at Pont Neuf, DEEP into a conversation about swimming across the River SEINE, which has been outlawed since 1923…
ASIDE:…A challenge for Paris City Hall has been to bring swimmers back to the capital’s biggest and most famous stretch of water, the Seine. With the 2024 Olympics, one of the benefits being promised to locals is that the river will be made officially swimmable. “Thanks to the Olympic Games we’ll be able to see to it that the water in the Seine is clean water,” the Paris mayor, Anne Hidalgo, vowed. Taking a dip in the Seine and other city waters has been banned since 1923, because of currents, river traffic and water quality. In 1988, Jacques Chirac, the mayor of Paris at the time, promised to make the river safe for swimmers and said he would proudly swim in it himself. It never happened. Although the water in 1870 was more than 400 times more polluted than today, the issues over purity, linked in part to human and agricultural residues, are still being addressed…
Back to our show….JACQUES VALUE, at left, is overheard stating that he could “easily make it to the other side”, while VICTOR HUGO, at right is telling him…well, he’s telling him…”Oui, YOU GO on. No way, you’re CRAZY”. And that word Mesdames and Messieurs…is our Pièce de Résistance…”CRAZY”...Because thinking you could swim underwater across the SEINE is just totally INSANE…”IN-SEINE“! And where will you be after you get in the water? “IN-SEINE“! No matter how you look at it…Voila! It’s an old joke, but WATER OUI gonna do, Folks? EIFFEL for it! Tres bien, David!
Ok, Eye Bonbons…Not much in the way of an EIFFEL this morning. Jacques in a red T-shirt, and Hugo (who may or may not resemble David…but I’d feel like a real PARISite if I said that just because he’s bald)…wearing gold. Two couples atop the bridge, and five more people walking in the background. We see the base of the Eiffel Tower, flanked by foliage, with buildings visible through the arch. And I like the criss-cross design detailed on the Tower. But I think I’ll just WING it, and go with the three tiny Animal Eagles on the Bridge., just to be done…Because at this point, the whole idea of that water in the River is just giving me the CREPES…(Simon and Garfunkel 1970)…So, There you have it, Folks, Done! Have a great day, Everyone…I’m headed to breakfast…I’m thinking FRENCH Toast… 🏊🏻♂️🙋🏻

Good Morning, Caroline. I think one HAS to be familiar with the River to get today’s solve. And I found the info interesting too, since despite knowing “of” the River, I really knew nothing “about” it. But TBT, everything I came ACROSS while researching this morning was IMO, quite laborious and boring. Really…I was DROWNING in minutiae…So I just picked a little excerpt to include, instead of my usual link. Good morning. No problem with either the words or cartoon. Once I dived into jumble, I came out at the other end swimmingly. Angela, I so enjoyed your song choice and video with it. Finally caught the one at the end of your post, unlike the other day when you reminded me. Thanks for some interesting facts which I had no idea about. Until tomorrow stay well. By the way, the other Angie is in the bocce tournament today in Dyker Heights. We have two teams competing. Two years ago she and the other three guys won there.

That’s exactly the song that came to my mind this morning. I saw them many years ago at the Hungry I in S.F. I was just wild for them. They had so many good songs: “Hang Down Your Head Tom Dooley” “MTA” etc. etc. Did you know that the subway ticket in Boston is called the CharlieTicket, paying homage to that song.
