SECASC = ACCESS

CARTOON ANSWER:

NO ONE COULD SWIM ACROSS THE PARIS RIVER UNDERWATER. THAT WOULD BE – – –

NN IE I ES = “IN-SEINE”

Good Morning, Everyone! 🏊🏻‍♂️ WATER YOU KIDDING ME? 🏊🏻‍♂️

🎶 In the middle of the night…I go walking in my sleep…From the mountains of faith to a RIVER SO DEEP…We all end in the ocean, we all start in the streams, we’re all carried along…By the RIVER OF DREAMS…🎶 The River of Dreams” – Billy Joel 1993

🏊🏻‍♂️ Sometimes a person’s FUNNY, and jokes about some things,
And being FICKLE says something that laughter often brings…
This guy claims he’s a swimmer of such an upper class,
That he can get across the River Seine in all one pass…
His friend is quick to GRIPE to him that it cannot be done,
That underwater ‘cross the Seine? It’s been done by no one…
But our guy feels the ACCESS would prove that he could do,
What borders on insanity…he thinks it to be true.
What do you say to this guy “You’re all wet…and you can’t feign…
That you can do this swimmingly…No you are quite “IN-SEINE“…🏊🏻‍♂️

While I didn’t really do a DEEP, DEEP search this morning, I can say that none of our words SURFACED as new, yet something did come up as FUNNY…FUNNY! I only found it one time in the Archives, on 10/05/16. But I’m sure such a common everyday word had to be in play before than…Anyway, the anagram that day? You guessed it…NUYFN. And funnier still, it’s not the only anagram repeated today. ACCESS, last seen in 2017, was in play on 11/16/15 and 08/03/16, where it appeared both times as it does today: SECASC, and with an appearance in 2014, I’m dubbing it our oldest entry. FICKLE showed up twice in 2017, and GRIPE, RISES TO THE TOP, with the most recent showing of 06/14/19. And it was clear SAILING with all our words this morning..in fact it went quite SWIMMINGLY…So, NAUT to waste any more time…it’s on to our cartoon.

Finding ourselves back in Paris, which we recently visited on August 22nd, we see two Jumble characters, standing perhaps at Pont Neuf, DEEP into a conversation about swimming across the River SEINE, which has been outlawed since 1923…

ASIDE:…A challenge for Paris City Hall has been to bring swimmers back to the capital’s biggest and most famous stretch of water, the Seine. With the 2024 Olympics, one of the benefits being promised to locals is that the river will be made officially swimmable. “Thanks to the Olympic Games we’ll be able to see to it that the water in the Seine is clean water,” the Paris mayor, Anne Hidalgo, vowed. Taking a dip in the Seine and other city waters has been banned since 1923, because of currents, river traffic and water quality. In 1988, Jacques Chirac, the mayor of Paris at the time, promised to make the river safe for swimmers and said he would proudly swim in it himself. It never happened. Although the water in 1870 was more than 400 times more polluted than today, the issues over purity, linked in part to human and agricultural residues, are still being addressed…

Back to our show….JACQUES VALUE, at left, is overheard stating that he could “easily make it to the other side”, while VICTOR HUGO, at right is telling him…well, he’s telling him…”Oui, YOU GO on. No way, you’re CRAZY”. And that word Mesdames and Messieurs…is our Pièce de Résistance…”CRAZY”...Because thinking you could swim underwater across the SEINE is just totally INSANE…”IN-SEINE“! And where will you be after you get in the water? “IN-SEINE“! No matter how you look at it…Voila! It’s an old joke, but WATER OUI gonna do, Folks? EIFFEL for it! Tres bien, David!

Ok, Eye Bonbons…Not much in the way of an EIFFEL this morning. Jacques in a red T-shirt, and Hugo (who may or may not resemble David…but I’d feel like a real PARISite if I said that just because he’s bald)…wearing gold. Two couples atop the bridge, and five more people walking in the background. We see the base of the Eiffel Tower, flanked by foliage, with buildings visible through the arch. And I like the criss-cross design detailed on the Tower. But I think I’ll just WING it, and go with the three tiny Animal Eagles on the Bridge., just to be done…Because at this point, the whole idea of that water in the River is just giving me the CREPES…(Simon and Garfunkel 1970)So, There you have it, Folks, Done! Have a great day, Everyone…I’m headed to breakfast…I’m thinking FRENCH Toast… 🏊🏻‍♂️🙋🏻

  1. No GRIPE with today’s words…🏊🏻‍♂️🙋🏻

°After being denied ACCESS to the club by the FICKLE new doorkeeper, he didn’t find it FUNNY, and decided to GRIPE about it to the Chairman before the guy’s foolish actions drove them all “INSANE”…

°He knew she was quite FICKLE, and at first he found it FUNNY,
But now it just was worsening…with her calling guys “Honey”
And despite how he’d GRIPE to her, it garnered no success,
Annoyance just keep growing…and he hated the ACCESS…
The stress was just not worth it…he didn’t need the strain,
The time had come to sever ties, before he went “INSANE”

  2. Hi Everyone –
Access was the only thing that slowed me down today since, like most people I suppose, I’m familiar with the river. I got a big kick out of the answer and oui and Triomphe in the voting box. Very interesting info on the Seine, Angela.

    • Good Morning, Caroline. I think one HAS to be familiar with the River to get today’s solve. And I found the info interesting too, since despite knowing “of” the River, I really knew nothing “about” it. But TBT, everything I came ACROSS while researching this morning was IMO, quite laborious and boring. Really…I was DROWNING in minutiae…So I just picked a little excerpt to include, instead of my usual link. Feeling I had to say something, I added just enough to “get our feet wet” so to speak…(pun definitely intended)! 😂 But as for the two poll puns, that’s all Mike. 👏🏻👏🏻 And I totally agree, that that PARIS too funny! Have a great day, Caroline! 🏊🏻‍♂️🙋🏻

      • Wishing you – and everyone – a great day, too. Thanks for wading through all the research. You had a lot of good ones today, as always, with crepes being my favorite.

        • LOL! Yes, I did WADE👏🏻👏🏻 through quite a lot this morning! I actually found myself yelling…”KELP, KELP”! 😉 And you’re very welcome, Caroline. Thanks for the SEDIMENT..I mean sentiment! 😉 You’re very SWEET! 😉 Just like that CREPE! 😉 Hope you have a magnifique day! 🏊🏻‍♂️🙋🏻

  3. Good morning. No problem with either the words or cartoon. Once I dived into jumble, I came out at the other end swimmingly. Angela, I so enjoyed your song choice and video with it. Finally caught the one at the end of your post, unlike the other day when you reminded me. Thanks for some interesting facts which I had no idea about. Until tomorrow stay well. By the way, the other Angie is in the bocce tournament today in Dyker Heights. We have two teams competing. Two years ago she and the other three guys won there.

    • Good Morning, Brooklyn. Yes, I was a little up in the air about my song today…so I went with both. Actually, TBT? I still have a “thing” for a young Billy Joel…❣️so I just couldn’t resist! 😂 And one can never go wrong with Simon and Garfunkel…And as for the River facts, as I told Caroline, it was all new to me too, so…happy to share. We SHORE learn a lot of new things here, huh? 😉 And I chuckled at your DIVING in and doing SWIMMINGLY! 👏🏻👏🏻 You’re becoming a real pro! It’s FUNNY, one of my cousins was talking about the Tournament last night…I was going to ask if you were participating, Good Luck…I’m rooting for you…And speaking of Angie…how’s my paisan Marie? We haven’t heard from her in way too long. I hope all is well. Please tell her I was asking for her…Ok…Have a good one, Brooklyn. Do Marine Park proud! 🏆🙋🏻

  4. It was extremely FUNNY that the college freshman with the FICKLE personality was known to GRIPE quite often because he would misplace his dorm key and not have ACCESS to his room.

    • LOL! Once again, you’ve done SWIMMINGLY! 👏🏻👏🏻You’re very good at this, Chuck! Kudos! Nice and cool this morning, right? Such a welcomed relief! 🏊🏻‍♂️🙋🏻

      • Your research on the Seine is, indeed, interesting and very informative, Angela. When Paris is mentioned, I always think of Lindbergh and his 1927 adventure! Have a great weekend

        • Hi Chuck. Thank you. But I have to be honest, as I mentioned earlier it was all I could do to keep my head above water while I was doing it. 😉 The details were soooo boring…So, .Lindbergh, huh? That’s a little odd…Maybe because your name is Charles? For me, it’s Plaster! Well…love too…but mostly plaster….😉🙋🏻

  5. Hi all – Wow, an instant solve of the words and answer on a Saturday, capping off an easy week.

I liked your “Paris site” pun Angela.

Have a great day and weekend everyone! Here’s a song from The Kingston Trio:
🎵”The Seine, The Seine, when will I again
Meet her there, greet her there
On the moonlit banks of the Seine?”🎵

    • LOL…Tks…I wasn’t really thrilled with it. but I wanted to get the mention of David in somehow, despite having some serious doubt. I hate when I’m unSOIR of things…like jumping out of a plane without a PARISchute, you know? 😉 And yes, it was all très très too easy this week. Have a good one, G! 🙋🏻

    • Hi Steve,
That’s exactly the song that came to my mind this morning. I saw them many years ago at the Hungry I in S.F. I was just wild for them. They had so many good songs: “Hang Down Your Head Tom Dooley” “MTA” etc. etc. Did you know that the subway ticket in Boston is called the CharlieTicket, paying homage to that song.

  6. Cute puzzle this morning capping off an easy week. Thanks for all the information about the Seine, Angela. After reading your note guess one would be insane to swim in the Seine. Hope all of you have a good day.

    • TOTALLY Insane! 😱 And I too thought it was very cute…and clever! Wishing you a great day too, Betty!

  7. A lot of c’s and s’s in access, then I’s and e’s in the solution, but in Seine popped into mind. We’re on the road in Dixon on twin watch, they won their soccer game 9-2 this morning. We then have our family Golden Anniversary dinner tonight at the Galena Steak House in Dixon. All 15 will be there, with all 8 grand kids in attendance along with their parents.
