Happy Thursday, everyone! Another relatively easy solve gave us a final solution in the form of an idiom that we’ve had in the past. Repeats don’t bother me in the least, especially when they’re nearly 8 years old! Three of our anagrams were brand new, with the first one, LATVE, being our only repeat. All of the solutions were pretty straightforward and I didn’t hesitate on any of them. MUNCH was the oldest of the lot with an appearance on 1/14/12, while GRAVEL was most recently seen on Father’s Day 2017.

Today’s panel was meticulously drawn and featured two Jumble characters in an office. The dialogue exchange centers around a flight that one of the women will be taking and the cartoon sentence identifies the move as a position transfer to London.

The scenery in the background is what really stole the show, with floor to ceiling windows offering a breathtaking view of Midtown Manhattan. On the right side of the panel is the 1,454 ft tall Empire State Building, and just to the left is an iconic NYC water tower that’s propped up on three legs. The view of the skyscraper and the fashionable clothing worn by the characters leads me to believe this particular office might be in the Garment District.

The final solve was an anagram consisting of 10-letters which is a single letter more than yesterday’s. The layout kept the answers well hidden but the length of the words made it a mighty quick solve. “A” was obviously the single letter word and MOVE came into view next. GET and ON were right there to finish it all off. With four puzzles down and only one to go, how will D&J bring the week to a close? I have high hopes, but we never really know! Have a terrific Thursday, and I’ll see you right back here tomorrow!

  1. Good Morning, Mike. Good Morning, Everyone! “HOME, THAMES” ✈️🙋🏻

🎶 All my bags are packed, I’M READY TO GO…hate to wake you up to say goodbye…But the dawn is breakin’, it’s early morn…taxi’s waitin’, he’s blowin’ his horn, already I’m so lonesome I could cry…So kiss me and smile for me…Hold me like you’ll never let me go…I’m LEAVIN’ ON A JET PLANE..I don’t know when I’ll be back again..LEAVIN’ ON A JET PLANE…🎶 “Leaving on a Jet Plane” – Peter, Paul and Mary 1967

✈️ She’s looking out the window, at this skyline known by heart,
And thinking how the last time from this office she’ll depart…
The transfer is a good one, she’s sure that she’ll do well,
But saying goodbye to her friends the tears did quickly swell.
Her voice sounded like GRAVEL, though she wanted to be strong…
She sighs and pushes back from her desk, shaped like an OBLONG.
She’ll go home for the last time, for tomorrow is her flight,
She’ll have a little MUNCH to eat, and drink some wine tonight…
Say goodbye to the doorman, and also the VALET,
She’ll need to get up early and face the busy day.
A few days off in Europe, three in Rome, two in Milan…
And then fly off to London…Monday she’ll GET A MOVE ON ✈️

  2. 🌯 Running late, and needing to GET A MOVE ON, he was walking towards the parking lot, GRAVEL beneath his feet, when he saw the VALET MUNCH on a huge OBLONG-shaped burrito, and hoped he’d not find remnants of it on his steering wheel…🌯

🍰She saw the VALET standing near the OBLONG cabinet door,
When she noticed as he rummaged that he’d MUNCH a petit four,
And the crumbs fell just like GRAVEL and landed on the rug,
He looked at them and seemed to give it no more than a shrug.
Unacceptable behavior…for sure this guy is gone…
    Tomorrow’s termination…and then he’ll GET A MOVE ON🍰🙋🏻

  3. Good morning. Pretty soon with all the feathers added to my cap I might be elevated to CHIEF. Another victory. Pretty soon I’ll be thinking I’m actually a teeny Weeny bit smart. Lately it’s been great for the ego. As one can tell, there was no problem on either the words or cartoon. The boys are clever lately with their answers. Angela, loved your song choice and use of the words. Until tomorrow stay well.

  4. After yesterday’s humiliation today’s answer seeming to be another ending in a preposition I got. Also sounds like a song lyric but I can’t remember which. Have a good day

  5. I agree with Paul & Chuck. We’ve had an easy time of it this week so far. But Beware….. a stumper may be coming our way and then we’ll be moaning. Have a good Thursday all.

  6. Hi all – The CH showed MUNCH, and OBLONG was practically spelled out. The other two words just took an extra look. I was a little distracted thinking the answer had something to do with London or Britain, but it came to me after thinking ‘Move’ with the letter layout.

Angela, your song choice and poem went particularly well together today.

    Have a great day, everyone!

A couple of favorites (of mine anyway) on the travel theme:
🎵”She helped me with my suitcase, She stands before my eyes
Driving me to the airport, And to the friendly skies
Going through security I held her for so long
She finally looked at me in love,
And she was gone”🎵 “Just a Song Before I Go”, Graham Nash with CSN&Y

🎵”The drone of flying engines Is a song so wild and blue
It scrambles time and seasons if it gets through to you
Then your life becomes a travelogue
    Of picture-post-card-charms”🎵 “Amelia”, Joni Mitchell

“The VALET had to GET A MOVE ON to draw the curtains in time to hide the sight of the feral cat beginning to MUNCH his breakfast on the GRAVEL OBLONG driveway”.
