CARTOON ANSWER:

TALKING TO SOME PEOPLE ABOUT CLEAN RENEWABLE POWER CAN BE A – – –

ARGO STN WEY EFE = WASTE OF ENERGY

Happy Tuesday, everyone! Today’s cartoon, although lighthearted and funny, touched on a hot button topic that is sure to get the comments section buzzing. Of course I have my own personal opinions about the issue of renewable energy, but you didn’t come here for that, and it’s a rabbit hole I’d like to avoid. With that out of the way, let’s take a look at how our favorite wordsmith chose to challenge us with his second puzzle of the week.

David started off with four brand new anagrams, but all of their solutions ended up being recycled favorites from the past. I easily solved the first three but had a moment of hesitation on DEFECT. There’s something I find troubling about double vowels that are the same and no unique letters available (think Y, W, or Q) to help get the solution rolling. STUNT is our blast from the past and was last used on 2/10/16. CARGO was unloaded on 5/25/18 making it our most recently delivered word.

The setting for our cartoon appears to be the floor of a science fair where we encounter three Jumble characters. By reading the dialogue, we discover that the boy is giving a presentation about renewable energy to his grandfather and mother. The trifold display board shows two different examples of clean energy production with the middle panel focused on solar and the right side being wind.

The budding scientist has a small-scale example of solar power in action and can be seen using the beam from his flashlight to energize the solar panel which turns his fan. Grandpa is less than impressed and snaps back with a statement that is a quite shocking. He seems to think that fossil fuels are the only way to go and refuses to entertain the idea of alternative energy solutions. Mom attempts to keep the peace, but the words can’t be unsaid. The young man appears to be crushed by the statement as portrayed by the gloomy look on his face.

The cartoon was rich with detail and I was particularly impressed by the tiny experiment being shown. If you look real close, you can probably make out the individual photovoltaic cells on the solar panel. The one detail you probably overlooked was the small lightbulb hanging from the lamp in the upper left of the cartoon. It’s a traditional incandescent bulb and it looks like this particular school hasn’t made the switch to energy efficient CFL or LED lighting.

The final solve was an anagram consisting of 13-letters. The G at the beginning of the layout mislead me into thinking that GREEN would be the 5-letter answer. Luckily, all of the E’s near the end of the anagram allowed me to find ENERGY which put me well on my way. With those letters crossed out, WASTE and OF were quickly decipherd to finish this one off.

This particular answer has been used in the past but with a different twist. Veterans of the Jumble might remember the cartoon from 5/25/17 which focused on the Steuben County landfill program of converting methane gas from trash into energy. We do get repeats from time to time, and it’s always fun to see how Jeff chooses to create a completely different cartoon from the same phrase. Have a terrific Tuesday, and I’ll see you right back here tomorrow!

  1. Good Morning, Mike. Good Morning, Everyone… β˜€οΈ POWER To The People.β˜€οΈ

🎢 How many times can a man turn his head…And PRETEND THAT HE JUST DOESN’T SEE? The answer, my friend, is BLOWIN IN THE WIND…The answer is BLOWIN’ IN THE WIND…🎢 β€œBlowin’ In The Wind” – Peter, Paul and Mary 1963 https://tinyurl.com/y49q3p6s

πŸ’¨ To Grandpa it may be a STUNT, perhaps he sees DEFECT,
But kids today are learning there are new ways to reflect…
With classes teaching WEEKLY how we can overcome,
Dependency on old ways by using wind and sun…
Like CARGO laden on a ship, they’re taught that things can weigh,
Quite heavily upon the Earth, depleting day by day…
But we can make a difference, it’s up to you and me…
To use Natural Resources…ending WASTE OF ENERGY πŸ’¨

  2. Knowledgeable experts in Energy field knows that all forms of energy are needed to meet the workd’s energy needs. Renewable power has a limited use since it can not be relied upon 24/7. Hopefully advances in solar and wind technology will improve conversion effectiveness but until then fossil fuels and nuclear will remain mainstay until greater discoveries in energy sources are found or improved. Showing grandpa as narrowed minded and grandson as uninformed to the facts are both misleading to your audience as to the real world. Just like so many of the politicians running for office these days.

Β° After ripping her new CARGO shorts attempting a foolish STUNT at the WEEKLY Bocce game, she noticed a DEFECT in the seam, and shook her head at what a WASTE OF ENERGY it all was…

Β° While loading on the CARGO, he found two opened crates,
And wasn’t sure of what to do…he figured he’d just wait…
New to this WEEKLY job he thought…”Maybe this is a STUNT”?
A joke played on the newbie…and he would bear the brunt?
Or did he find a DEFECT in how the crates were bound…
And then perhaps be lauded for what he had just found?
He waited…but he fell asleep…the job not meant to be…
They fired him…His worrying? A WASTE OF ENERGY!

  4. Good morning. No problem again with the words but the clever cartoon answer took some time for me. Took time to get Green out of my head for the first word. It slowed me up a lot. Love your song choice Angela and your use of the words. Until tomorrow stay well.

  5. Angela, you stole my thunder because I just noticed your other post. Anyway, here goes. The STUNT man was aghast when he discovered that the WEEKLY article in the newspaper had a picture of him in his CARGO pants that showed the DEFECT very clearly.

  6. Everything fell into place this morning – clever puzzle. I keep thinking of all those lightbulb jokes. β€œHow many psychiatrists does it take to change a lightbulb?? – Only one … but it has to want to change”. Happy Tuesday to all of you.

    • Betty…We were joking about the same thing this morning! There’s soooo many good links on-line, but I’d rather not post any of them, because unfortunately every single one of them has at least one offensive joke of some sort. But they’re hysterical, and if you have the time, take a look. But I pulled this one out, because it’s sooo true! Half the time we don’t even know we have a contract!!! Have a good one, Betty! πŸ™‹πŸ»

Q: How many New Yorkers does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
A1: None of your damn business!
      A2: 50. 50? Yeah 50; its in the contract.
ROTFL! Soooo true. EVERYTHING’S somewhere IN THE CONTRACT! πŸ˜‚πŸ™‹πŸ»

      • Betty…I know, right? I’m was dying! And I hate to admit, but I can actually “hear” the …”Yeah, 50″‘ πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚…Too funny. Too bad it had to end there though….because otherwise for sure we’d hear…”Contract? What contract? I didn’t sign no damn contract”! ROTFL..You gotta love it! Have a great day, Betty….and be prepared…you’re going to die laughing!πŸ˜‚ πŸ’‘πŸ™‹πŸ»

  7. Hi Everyone –
I got the answer because I remembered energy was part of the answer of a previous puzzle, but I did have to back into Cargo.

    • Hi Caroline. Something about this puzzle was driving me nuts since 4 o’clock this morning, but I had a million balls in the air, and I couldn’t spend the time. But after your comment, I had to go look. …Check this out…You definitely hit the nail on the head! “Energy” itself was all over the place, but this is the money shot! πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ» Well done, Girl! πŸ™‹πŸ»

    • And I think of you, Mike and others from the blog often. Just a few days ago I told my husband how you sometimes wish people Cento Anni. By the way, the Prine concert was wonderful. Thanks for the tip.

      • Sorry, I have people here….Yes, it’s human nature that we relate things to one another, and think of each other. Cento Anni? We say it every time we have a drink….so…every day? πŸ˜‰ We say it where other people would say “Cheers”. Or if someone says something good…it’s kind of like a blessing I guess…I’ve heard it all my life. In fact, earlier tonight one of my nephews told me he got a new job that he was trying for,..and I went right to the..”Way to go, Bud! Cento Anni”! πŸ˜‰ What can I say? I’m definitely a creature of habit. (That would make a good Jumble answer, wouldn’t it? Creature of habit)? LOL! ..And the concert? I knew you’d enjoy it. I think I cried through most of it, I’m such a wuss! πŸ˜‰ Anyway, I’m frying eggplant, and watching the Mets lose…So I guess all is right with the world!! πŸ˜‰ Have a great night, Caroline…And pleasant dreams…πŸ˜˜πŸ™‹πŸ»

  8. On a WEEKLY basis, it seems, many of the STUNT men working with the traveling circus, have opted to DEFECT from their homeland and hop on the CARGO ship headed for South America.

  9. Hi all – CARGO took an extra look. Got WEEKLY by putting LY at the end as usual. From the cartoon I thought PANEL DISCUSSION for the answer, but got it by thinking about the dialog for a minute.

    Have a great day, everyone!

β€œHe needed to perform his STUNT at the auto show WEEKLY and it was a WASTE OF ENERGY finding a good mechanic, so he fixed the DEFECT himself and made his CARGO”. (Couldn’t resist)

  10. Good morning Mr. and Mrs. America and all the ships at sea. (Walter Winchell)
I had a little problem with cargo. First I had gocar and when I did get cargo I thought of snails.??
I went with a Long Shore Mans theme this morning, so here we go.
The CARGO was stacked and ready to go, the crane operator tried a STUNT to help him with the stow. This was a WEEKLY event said the crew down below, was there a DEFECT the boss wanted to know. But it wasn’t a WASTE OF ENERGY, the crane was just too slow.
Fun puzzle, but I think I have to take a break. I’m starting to talk around the house using Prose and Rhythms all the time. Thanks Angela.
Hope everybody has a healthy and happy day. Sonny

You, Sir from getting down in it too deep…
But you throw me the Pats now….and knock BOTH my teams?
Then one has to wonder…is this what it seems?
Are you looking for rivalry played out right here?
‘Cause It’s not gonna happen…none of us go there…
We root for our teams, but we each know our place,
