CARTOON ANSWER:

WHEN THE LITTLE GIRL LEARNED TO USE SCISSORS, THE RESULT WAS – – –

HET  SED  GIH   LAR   =   “SHEAR” DELIGHT

Good Morning, Everyone!         ✂️ SHARE AND SHEAR ALIKE ✂️

🎶 HAIR I go again, I hear those trumpets blow again…All aglow again…Taking a chance on love…🎶 ” Taking a Chance on Love” – Miss Ella Fitzgerald 1940

✂️ She got hold of some scissors and thought that it’d be fun,
In no time short she went ahead and then it had begun…
The COLLAR of her shirts came off, a HEFTY bunch of hair,
The floor became all SEEDY with the mess created there.
And Daisy was so happy, she didn’t see the GLITCH,
And wrong as she is…where was Mom? The blame belongs with which?
Where were the scissors anyway, obviously in plain sight…
So I’d say Mom shares in this scene of Daisy’s “SHEAR” DELIGHT!✂️

With time being SHORT this morning, I’ll CUT right to the chase…
HEFTY: 12/08/14 and 10/01/18; SEEDY: 04/03/14 (Anagrammed just as it is today) and 05/22/17; and GLITCH: 12/10/13 and 07/08/18. The old and the new…And speaking of? COLLAR. Another new kid on the block, but easily solved. In fact, none of our words posed a problem today, and all the Early Birds SHEARed the same thought…These words were a DELIGHT!

SEW…What have we HAIR this morning? A little girl named Daisy, her Mom BARBara, and more than a SHRED of evidence. With our cartoon set in her bedroom, Daisy sits on the floor and we can see that what looks like her entire wardrobe has vanished into thin HAIR! Having gotten hold of a pair of scissors, it seems like everything has beCOMB  HAIR game! And it’s not just her clothes…That beautiful thick hair has also FALLEN victim. And for what? The HIRSUTE of happiness? Sure, Daisy’s happy, but Mom? All she’s thinking is…”OMG! CUT me some slack! How does this kid get TANGLED up in these things”? ..But let’s be honest HAIR Folks. Don’t you think Mom’s MANEly to blame? How’d Daisy get her hands on those scissors in the first place? They must have been lying around somewhere,,.HAIR or tHAIR. And by the size of them, we can see that it’s not one of those little plastic kiddie scissors either. This is the real thing…so I’d say BARB wasn’t too SHARP leaving them lying around like that. You know the old saying…You reap what you SEW? SEW? Hmm. I doubt there’ll be any of that…These clothes? You’d need CUTTING-edge technology to salvage them…But new clothes really isn’t the issue HAIR, is it? Daisy’s hair is…And I’m afraid tHAIRS a real problem tHAIR…”SHEARDELIGHT? Maybe in answer to our puzzle…but I think we’re really getting aHEAD of ourselves if we think that’s gonna CUT it. I guess we’ll just have to give it time…and it’ll probably GROW on us…But David? Never SHEAR…you’ve made the CUT once again!

Ok. Eye candy? Truth be told, it’s hard to look past poor Daisy’s head. But I’ll dePART from concentrating on that…Except for a yellow garment in Daisy’s hands, all the clothes strewn across the floor are black and white. A polka-dot print lies to Daisy’s right. A single hangar remains in the opened closet. Barb’s dressed in a pink top with black tights, and Daisy’s sporting a green ruffled shirt with jeans. She better hold on to them, with her wardrobe so TRIMmed down now, right? And amongst all the shredded clothing, we see those two clumps of hair. HAIR today…gone, hmm…today! But it’s the huge PAINTED DAISY on the wall that’s taking CENTER stage. That and the BEE, POLLEN it all together. I can’t get Honey COMB out of my head…So, There you have it Folks, Done. Have a great day, Everyone…And I apologize if I DRONEd on about the HAIR…But I just hope Barb’s learned a lesson. HAIRafter? LOCK up those scissors! ✂️🙋🏻

  1. Good morning. Loved your song choice Angela. Can’t go wrong listening to Ella. She is such a joy and your use of the words were enjoyable. Glitch was my choice for hardest word. When it came time for the cartoon I just gave up. After a minute and still not getting anything I just caved. When he dropped off his Seedy shirt at the dry cleaners. The Glitch became apparent when there was Hefty starch in the Collar and the shirt still smelled dirty. Believe me when I say I changed dry cleaners because my shirt came back worse than when I dropped it off. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Good Morning, Brooklyn, Thanks…I really enjoy listening to her too. My Father loved her voice, and He instilled a love of iher nto me from quite an early age. Her phrasing always amazed me…she definitely was in a class by herself. A SHEAR joy to listen to…Sorry you threw in the towel… I really think if you held out you would’ve CUT it…Anyway, you’re getting better and better with these sentences! Bravo! The “HEFTY starch in the COLLAR” is adorable! 👏🏻👏🏻. Well done, Bud! And I hear ya with the Dry Cleaner woes. Been tHAIR, done that! So, last night? What’d’ya HAIR? The ashcans (I think that’s what those big boomers are called, no)?..went off right before dark, and it lasted for hours…almost til midnight…I suppose there were color displays along with them, but unfortunately all we heard was the noise. Today’s SI paper has a story about the police confiscating “hundreds of fireworks”, 20 something summonses being given, and 1 arrest..Hmm. Just 1 arrest? Boy he must have really pissed somebody off, huh? 😂 Well, they must have been “enforcing” on the other side of the Island, because we weren’t spared! You know earlier in the week the 120 even posted about a Reward being offered for anyone coming forth with information about any possession of fireworks. And that wasn’t so well received…Can’t blame the cops, they try. Anyway…What’re gonna do? I’m just glad there’s no follow-up stories about anyone getting hurt…Hope you get out and enjoy the day, Brooklyn..The Mets don’t come on until 7! 😂😂🙋🏻

      • My block was quiet. Heard some noise but not like years ago. Even Halloween we have no one ringing the bell. Of course it doesn’t help sitting in the house with all the light off

        • I don’t think anything could be like years Fourth of July years ago. Those days were epic! I remember we’d make the Daily News with what went on on Avenue U…But like everything else…things change. Halloween’s the same thing here. Very few kids go around anymore. Times have greatly changed with that too. We used to go alone. You’ll never see that again, that’s for sure. But, yes, Paul…I do think sitting with the lights off might be a clue!!! 🎃😂🙋🏻

        • Paul…12 o’clock news, Channel 7.,,They just showed the “haul” that the 120 confiscated on the Island last night….A ton of stuff! I guess they just never made it to my area! 💥🙋🏻

  2. The attempt to COLLAR and arrest the SEEDY looking HEFTY shoplifter was thwarted on account of a GLITCH in the store’s security cameras surveillance.

    • Good Morning, Chuck. I think you stole my thunder! 😉 I was so busy this morning that I hadn’t gotten a chance to finish my entries, but I was so leaning towards COLLAR as in arrest. You beat me to the punch! And it’s definitely a keeper! 👏🏻👏🏻..especially with the surveillance cameras! Very well done..a BANG UP job…oh wait..that was yesterday! 😂 Have a great day, Chuck! ✂️🙋🏻

    • Chuck…I stuck with the COLLAR..but I think I can GET AWAY with ARREST of it …😂🙋🏻

° Trying desperately to avoid another COLLAR, the thief went into the SEEDY part of town, figuring there’d be less chance of a GLITCH, but he stole so much that the haul was way too HEFTY for him…and getting busted again was no SHEAR DELIGHT.

° She did like a man HEFTY…she felt there’s more to love,
But once they got together…there went “fit like a glove…”
He so enjoyed her cooking, it just became a GLITCH,
His chin became a triple one…so forget getting hitched…
He couldn’t close his COLLAR, he just ate way too much,
And now she felt quite SEEDY by his kisses and his touch.
It probably will end soon because try with all her might?
What once was sheer attraction now’s no way a SHEAR DELIGHT

  3. Anagrams were easy today but had to give up on the puzzle after my 5 minute time limit! I must admit it would have taken forever as I was not even thinking of girl’s reaction but toward the mom’s feelings!

    • Good Morning, Clay! I can see where you’re coming from. But David did mention the “little girl” in the question. TBT? SHEAR was the key. But..I think if Jeff would have made those scissors PINKING SHEARS? The puzzle would have definitely been a CUT above the rest! In fact, I scrutinized the cartoon hoping to see the serrated edges, but no cigar…I really think that by not doing do, it made for a little hesitation in coming up with the solve. But maybe because I’m a woman, I got the answer immediately. (And maybe because I used to get my hair CUT at “SHEAR” DELIGHT)! 😉 SHEARiouly! Anyway, the Mom? BARB? …I hate to be SNIPpy, but she takes the FALL for this one…Definitely a case of poor parenting…a real HAIR POLLUTION if you ask me! 😂 Hoping you reclaim that 5 minutes, Clay! Enjoy! ✂️🙋🏻

  4. I’m with Clay, Paul, & Angela. GLITCH was my choice hardest word & gave up on solution. As with Clay, I kept looking for girly, girlish, etc.”Cartoonies” loved the answer. Angela- told you a ” doozie” was imminent!

    • LOL! Jamu, I don’t think it’s a doozie as much as a DON’T SEE! 😉 The pun was brilliant, IMO, it’s the scissors that didn’t CUT it. And as I mentioned to Clay, I think women may PICK up quicker on SHEAR. Relating to both the PINKING SHEARS and our HAIR CUTS. Or maybe it’s just me. I just love anything CUTTING EDGE!!!.😉 So I found it to be a DELIGHTful puzzle…despite my disappointment with BARB. (And I was hoping it’d be a Father instead…BOB would’ve really fit the bill)! Have a great day, Jamu…and don’t go around SPLITTING HAIRS like I may be doing! 😂😂✂️🙋🏻

  5. I also enjoyed Ella, I count her responsible for today’s instrumental improvisational skills. Her scatting led to Dizzy, etc. My current fav is Lenny Pickett with his scalar & humorous screeches. I remember him from some Frisco band where he was a little more ” serious” but to me this is the “real” him.

    • When it comes to Miss Ella, you got SCAT right! She was unique. As for Lenny Pickett, I’m a sucker for a sax player…all horns, really..going all the way back to the sounds of the Big Bands. But if I had to choose? Stan Getz and Gerry Mulligan have the SAXiest sounds 😉 IMO…🎷🙋🏻

  6. Words were easy this morning, not so much the cartoon. Had to get out paper and pencil but I did get it figured out. Clever one.

    • Good Morning, Betty. Clever, indeed! And I’m glad you hung in there👏🏻👏🏻. and not just CLOTHES the book on it! 😉 Hoping you have a wonderful day! Enjoy! ✂️🙋🏻

  7. **FYI*** I just learned something. A cousin of mine asked if I was going to wear Red again today, since I did Red, White and Blue yesterday. Not following her, I asked why she was asking. She told me about Red Friday, and I thought it had something to do with yesterday being the Holiday. But I was wrong. There’s been a movement called RED FRIDAYS that’s been underway for years, where we civilians were articles of RED clothing every Friday as a reminder to all of us to Remember Everyone Deployed. RED. I was never aware of this, but I’m so glad to learn of it today. It’s such a great honor in support of our troops. Did anyone know of this? I’m starting to wear Red today, and I will every Friday from now on. 🇺🇸🙋🏻

  8. Hi all – Almost gave up on this one. COLLAR took me surprisingly long time to see, and I needed it for the answer letters. The GHT made me think of LIGHT, but I didn’t see the answer until I saw SHEAR.

🎵”Got a hank of hair and a piece of bone
And made a walkin’ talkin’ honeycomb”🎵

Jimmy Rogers, 1957. Check out the stage backdrop with a honeycomb and bees!

Thanks for the details Angela – I hadn’t caught that she had cut PART of her hair off as well.

    Have a great day, everyone!

    • Hey Steve…I have to say it again. I think it’s a harder solve for men. I feel kind of foolish generalizing like this, but I do think it’s an easier go for a woman. But I’m glad you stuck with it…JEST one thing.. tell me you’re joking…You didn’t see that huge bald area atop Daisy’s head? SHEARly you jest!😂 Have a great day, Steve. ✂️🙋🏻

      • You mean you felt kind of SHEEPISH about that? 😂 You could be right, but I’ve worn collars, so I don’t know why that was so hard for me also. Nothing about the Chronicle’s picture would inspire the word “huge” 😂 and I hadn’t looked online yet. Have a good one! 🙋🏻‍♂️

        • Hey Steve..I don’t get the Sheepish, but then again, it’s been been a long night and day…As for the huge part of her hair missing…you think maybe not seeing it adds to the difficulty of the solve?…THAIR are quite a number of people looking for it. 🤔🙋🏻

            • Oh, right. Shearing Sheep. Right over my head…See? I told you, it’s been a longggg night and day….🙄🤦🏻‍♀️

    • Steve, Thanks for the Jimmy Rodgers bit. I had completely forgotten about him, even though at one time he was one of my favorite singers. I remembered he was in the headlines for some reason, but I forgot why. If you’re interested, you might check it out on Google. He is the one born in 1933. Coincidentally, the other JR singer died in 1933.

      • Thanks Chuck. I guess most people know him from the hit “Kisses Sweeter Than Wine.”
