CARTOON ANSWER:

BEN FRANKLIN’S DAUGHTER DENTED THE STOVE, BUT IT DIDN’T BOTHER THE – – –

HI  NN  TRD  GA  EDO  UFF = “FOUND-DING” FATHER

Good Morning, Everyone! 👨‍👧 Happy Fathers Day! 👨‍👧

🎶 You’re the end of the rainbow, my pot o’ gold, you’re DADDY’S Little Girl to have and hold….A precious gem is what you are, you’re Mommy’s bright and shining star, You’re the spirit of Christmas, my star on the tree, you’re the Easter bunny to Mommy and me…You’re sugar, you’re spice, you’re everything nice, and you’re DADDY’S Little Girl…  “Daddy’s Little Girl” – Jimmy Roselli 1984

With all of today’s words looking familiar to me, I started doing some research…But there’s so many restrictions on my time this morning, and I had to get to Mass, so I’m going to delve into it further later…If you care to, you can check back, I’ll try to do an update…But right now it looks like TIRADE may be our most recent word with an appearance on 04/12/18, with HIGHLY running last having appeared back on 08/01/15. But I will say this…We sure have an interesting group of words today…OVERDO overdid the patience of 3 of the Early Birds, and LEGACY LEFT another 2 in the lurch. Ok…I’ve BEN on these words long enough…On to our cartoon…

In honor of Fathers Day, today we’ve FOUND ourselves in the home of Benjamin Franklin. A man who truly wore a coat of many colors, it would take me all day to speak of his LEGACY, so feel free to utilize this link to read about him here. He led a truly amazing life… We see he and his only daughter Sarah, engaged in what might be considered an ELECTRIFYING conversation. Having invented the FRANKLIN STOVE in 1741, and Sarah having been born in 1743, I’d put our year at circa 1751, since Sarah looks to be about 8 years old. Caught making a little DING in the family Stove by swinging a poker, Sarah appears quite contrite. “Cry and the Family Stove” comes to mind…But Ben, entering the room and FIND-DING the dent, chooses not to chastise her by telling her to go FLY A KITE, and instead gently assures her that accidents do happen. In fact, he goes so far as to commend her honesty, and likens her to George Washington…one of our 8 Founding Fathers, known for his honesty, and the one responsible for establishing “Ordered Liberty”, which required that all citizens be honest…Ah Ben, ever the DIPLOMAT…It’s obvious that he’s not upset with Sarah, and that the little DING doesn’t bother the…”FOUND-DING” FATHER! Brilliant, Guys! Be HONEST, Folks, did David and Jeff INVENT enough hints for us here today, or what? They sure made this POST MASTERful for me!
Ok, eye candy….With a panel shaded in yellow, we see Sarah dressed in a blue ruffled period dress, with a gray bonnet upon her head. Ben also dressed in a TIMEly fashion, sports his TRADEMARK BIFOCALS. The black and gray stove, the FOCAL point of the cartoon, appears to have coal within it, but there’s no sign of burning embers; although the stoves’ interior is partially colored in a golden hue. The Poker mentioned in Sarah’s dialogue lies on the ground. I keep wondering why the POKER is  PLAYING such a dominant role, and all that comes to mind is Benjamin Franklin Poker Chips, which are well known to any Poker-playing aficionado. SCIENTIFIC reasoning? Just a thought…But aside from that, the only other thing catching my eye is the single tear on Sarah’s right cheek…Hence, again..”CRY and the FAMILY STOVE”. So, There you have it, Folks, Done! And I’ll leave you with one of Bens’ quotes that I think personifies the meaning of a true Father…”Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn“.
Have a wonderful Father’s Day, Everyone! And I raise my glass to all who celebrate! 🍷🙋🏻

  1. Good morning. Happy Fathers Day to all the men out there that deserve a greeting. If your part of your children’s life then God Bless You. Just a quick message as I have to head out the door. I’ll read everybody later if I get the chance. I even have to finish jumble later. I got the words with a long pause at Tirade. Other than that the rest came fairly easy. So,have a great day everyone and stay safe.

  2. Hi all – LEGACY took extra time until I remembered words like AGENCY and tried the CY at the end. Next up was OVERDO until I saw the OVER separately, but I RATED TIRADE the hardest because so many other plausible words went by.
I figured FATHER would probably be in the answer today, then ING was in there, and the rest of the letters finished it off.

    Have a great day, everyone!

Angela, I used poker chips as toys while I was growing up and while playing poker with my family, but I’ve never heard of Ben Franklin poker chips, and can’t really find anything online to explain the connection. Another new fact learned here. (Why not Thomas Jefferson poker chips, hmmmm.) I *have* heard of Sly and the Family Stone though, and it gave me a good laugh.

“It was embarrassing when the inflated ego of the HIGHLY praised WINNER of the MUFFIN baking contest caused him to OVERDO a TIRADE because he thought the recognition of his LEGACY was insufficient”.
Hey, best sentence yet today! (Because it’s the ONLY one so far. How’s my LEGACY doing? 😂🙋🏻‍♂️)

    • LOL..It is a nice sentence..👏🏻👏🏻 Well done! I haven’t had a chance to do mine yet.. It’s coming. Steve, I don’t think friendly family poker games would ever employ Frankin poker chips. They’re mainly professionally used, and can be extremely expensive. And I didn’t say or ask if there was any connection to Ben himself…As far as I’ve ever known, the only thing is maybe because there’s a hologram $100 bill on a label. So I apologize if I caused you to go off on a wild goose chase. There was never any question of a connection put out there. I probably worded it wrong. I only mentioned it really as an aside to Jeff, because I FOUND it so amusing, and was referring to his whimsy and penchant for poker. That’s why I slipped in a Franklin pun “SCIENTIFIC reasoning”…and added “Just a thought.”, because it might just be my whimsy instead! The poker might have been just what’s handy near a stove/fireplace to make a DING with! So I probably should have phrased it a lot differently…and DEALT it directly to Jeff. But unless one is a gambler, I doubt you’d ever know anything about Franklin chips. Again, sorry about that. And thanks for the Sly and the Family Stone Shout Out. It was kind of broad, but I laughed too! 😉 Hope you’re having a great day, G! And I’m glad your temps are back down to the 60’s and 70’s!🃏🙋🏻

      • No apologies necessary; I found it very interesting. I hadn’t thought about the $100 bill connection. In that case, the Thomas Jefferson would be even more appropriate to my cheapskate self, since he’s on the $2! 😂

Thanks, much more comfortable temperatures. 🙋🏻‍♂️

  3. Nice reference to the “Franklin” stove in today’s puzzle.I guess I “overdid” it w overdo today, otherwise a fun puzzle. As the others have said,Happy Father’s Day to all my fellow Dads out there.

    • Yes it was, Chuck…Added a little HEAT to the puzzle! 😉 My friends got caught on Overdo too…it was a good anagram. Actually, they were all good anagrams today…Happy Fathers Day to you, Prof. I hope you’re being treated well. Enjoy the family, and have a great day! 🍷🙋🏻

  4. Legacy is the one word that took me the longest to solve but other than that it was an easy one today. Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads out there.

    • Hi Betty..I FOUND it an easy go also, and I thought it to be extra clever besides. Hope you’re having a great day! Take care! 🙋🏻

  5. LEGACY took me the longest because I thought the Y would not be the last letter since CAGLEY has a Y at the end. I got ding because I remembered it was a word in the answer of a previous puzzle.
Steve, great sentence as usual, and you do have quite a legacy at Jumble Answer.
Wishing all fathers and everyone else a happy day. I was very happy to find local strawberries at the farmers market this morning.

    • Thanks Caroline! I’m still waiting for the Early Girl tomatoes, which seem to arrive later every year.

    • Hi Caroline..Good observation…but I guess David figured Y not! Legacy caught 2 of my friends too this morning…As I mentioned, IMO, the anagrams were masterful today. And I’m smiling, because we’re snacking on Strawberries and whipped cream as we speak…I think I’m addicted to them! Enjoy yours! Wishing you a great day, Caroline! 🍓🍓🙋🏻

      • Whipped cream and strawberries, so good. I’m not sure what Early Girl tomatoes are like.
Guess what, Angela? There’s a poutine truck at the farmers market!

        • Oh, yes they are…I’ve been eating them every day for more than a week straight…some of them are huge…Sooo good. Get out!!! A Poutine truck? OMG! I’ve never seen that anywhere! Oh God, I’d be on line every day! LOL…oh, BTW…The other night? My Poutine? My friend, smiling, said it was ok..but maybe I should stick to Italian… It was ok, more for me. But the next night, smiling, I handed him a stack of take out menus…Some people! 😂😂 Have a good one, Caroline.😘🙋🏻

      • Made me laugh about your poutine. About the truck, we’re a lot closer to Canada than you are.

        • 😂😂 Yea, we laughed about it later too. I mean, I know it didn’t turn out so good this time, but it’s all in the delivery. Tell me what I should stick to? Uh, not so much! LOL..Anyway, this week I’m trying a new Cajun dish someone told me about. He’s not as experimental as I am when it comes to food tastes. I’ve spoiled him, and he loves his Italian dishes. So, I’m thinking maybe I should give him a heads up that morning…just in case he wants to make a reservation somewhere…Save us both the angst…😂😂. And you’re right, I didn’t realize that you live way upstate…But OMG…would I love to have one here. You have to try it and let me know how it is…I bet it’ll be delicious…I’m making myself laugh..I’m getting ready to eat lasagna, and I’m craving Poutine! I definitely need help! 🙄🙋🏻

  6. Steve: Happy Father’s Day!
Roses have value, weeds have naught; I’m bad at missives, worse than I thought!
Angela: Steve explains me better than I do. Once at family gathering I was told ” If you aspire to be a wordsmith, you best learned to “speel”, I said ” spell”, they said no SPIEL. Had to look up word still don’t understand. I had to spill this to you. As non-academian from a family of six doctorates, I feel you’re one too.
As for today, all words were a struggle and still haven’t solved puzzle yet. Remember Ben Franklin only as a bespeckled 18th century politician dragging a kite through a thunderstorm begging lightening to strike him. Had to scroll quickly to avoid references to answer. Have a great day! Thank you for your correspondence & hints..

    • Hey Jamu..The answer..Think a little out of the box…it’s very clever…Spiel..that’s funny! I think everybody from Brooklyn, NY has one! LOL!
Roses have value, but words have such charm…
But much as I love words…flowers do no harm…
You can bring me a book, but if we’re to be right?
Start off with the roses…or there’ll be no next night! 😂😂
…And today’s words are by no means the easiest to put into rhyme…I’d let it slide for today…🙋🏻

    • Jamu…Here you go…The sentence wasn’t all that difficult, but it wasn’t a slam dunk either…The poem? Definitely not easy, breezy. These words not only don’t relate that well to one another…rhyming them proved to be a real stretch…

° While the Principal went on a TIRADE, speaking about LEGACY and HIGHY respected and a man who’ll OVERDO in every situation, the penultimate WINNER…all the kids in the audience could think of was finishing their essay on the FOUND-DING FATHER so that they’d be rewarded with a MUFFIN…

° His Father’s baking prowess was always HIGHLY held,
Creations all a WINNER and a LEGACY would meld…
He’d OVERDO for everyone, never a TIRADE heard,
His patrons were important and ’twas never a cross word.
So now that he’s the baker since his Dad has passed away
He wakes up every morning thinking MUFFIN, and brûlée..
And he’s proud to run the business, working ever harder,
To carry on his Dad’s good name..he was the FOUND-DING FATHER

  7. OMG! Angela not only can your point apply to my rhyme, but to the puzzle as well. Outside the box, the cabin to the Erie. “Ding(y)” father……YES! ” go chase lightning Benjie, here hold these potato slices as you run.” I knew it you are a doctorate holder aren’t you? Maybe Steve too. Aren’t family meals fun? one asks a question or states a theory & the others posit their views. I learned a little but mostly gained weight. My favorite discussion? Is the universe infinite, or does it have limits. Worth two servings of lamb & one pudding.

    • ROTFL! Jamu…you’re on a roll! I think today’s puzzle was one of the most cleverest we’ve seen in a long time. So, did you get it all? 2 of my friends today didn’t think the answer made sense…I think it’s brilliant! I think it’s a pun within a pun…And I lit up like a LIGHT BULB! 😉 So, a doctorate? No. I thought you were goofing on me when you first said it. But thanks for thinking so! Quite the compliment. As for family meals? I enjoy them…well depending on what family members are in attendance. I’m bigger on some than others…as I’m sure most people are. You know how it is, Jamu. There’s in-laws and then there’s outlaws! 😉 Human nature…I hope you’re enjoying your day! 🍷🙋🏻

    • No Jamu, I didn’t have the energy for that much more schooling. MS in Computer Sciences, but just spent my career as a programmer/analyst/tech support.
      (I agree, you’re on a LOBSTER Roll!) 😂🙋🏻‍♂️

  8. **** OK…HERES AN UPDATE**** I’m not having much luck searching today. even though I think all today’s words have been used before. Maybe David can shed some LIGHT, because I’m exhausted. But…OVERDO was FOUND! And guess what? It appeared exactly as it is today…DROOVE…and guess when? 10 years ago today! 06/16/2009! How’s THAT for an old favorite? ****. 🙋🏻

    • Wow, sleuthing!! Not only is it an OLD favorite, it’s long OVERDO for a return!

      • I think we’ve surely seen it since then, but I’m not having any luck today, and my eyes are killing me…This nonsense keeps up..I’m gonna need BIFOCALS! 👓🙋🏻

  9. Steve, Angela: cut it out! Maybe no doctorates but still a lot like my cousins.”lobster on a roll”? Aaaaaaaaah!!!!! And Angela I agree with your 2 friends, answer not funny nor pertinent. Outside the box, the kitchen, the cabin & half way to …(name your favorite city)

    • Jamu..Sure it is..David could have simply said “FOUND-ING” Father..But instead he said…FOUND “DING”…Another word for a dent is a DING..it’s very clever..🤔🙋🏻

  10. Angela: thank you! Ok, now I get it,,, found “ding” dent on stove. A little over my head like maybe…….. the moon! You remember, what a president once promised. That one I liked.
    Have a great evening.

    • Jamu..,I never know when you’re kidding or not…but just in case? You’re very welcome, and I wish you a great evening too…Ciao! 🍷🙋🏻
