Good Morning, Everyone! 👨👧Happy Fathers Day! 👨👧

With all of today’s words looking familiar to me, I started doing some research…But there’s so many restrictions on my time this morning, and I had to get to Mass, so I’m going to delve into it further later…If you care to, you can check back, I’ll try to do an update…But right now it looks like TIRADE may be our most recent word with an appearance on 04/12/18, with HIGHLY running last having appeared back on 08/01/15. But I will say this…We sure have an interesting group of words today…OVERDO overdid the patience of 3 of the Early Birds, and LEGACY LEFT another 2 in the lurch. Ok…I’ve BEN on these words long enough…On to our cartoon…
In honor of Fathers Day, today we’ve FOUND ourselves in the home of Benjamin Franklin. A man who truly wore a coat of many colors, it would take me all day to speak of his LEGACY, so feel free to utilize this link to read about him here. He led a truly amazing life… We see he and his only daughter Sarah, engaged in what might be considered an ELECTRIFYING conversation. Having invented the FRANKLIN STOVE in 1741, and Sarah having been born in 1743, I’d put our year at circa 1751, since Sarah looks to be about 8 years old. Caught making a little DING in the family Stove by swinging a poker, Sarah appears quite contrite. “Cry and the Family Stove” comes to mind…But Ben, entering the room and FIND-DING the dent, chooses not to chastise her by telling her to go FLY A KITE, and instead gently assures her that accidents do happen. In fact, he goes so far as to commend her honesty, and likens her to GeorgeWashington…one of our 8 Founding Fathers, known for his honesty, and the one responsible for establishing “Ordered Liberty”, which required that all citizens be honest…Ah Ben, ever the DIPLOMAT…It’s obvious that he’s not upset with Sarah, and that the little DING doesn’t bother the…”FOUND-DING” FATHER! Brilliant, Guys! Be HONEST, Folks, did David and Jeff INVENT enough hints for us here today, or what? They sure made this POST MASTERful for me!
Ok, eye candy….With a panel shaded in yellow, we see Sarah dressed in a blue ruffled period dress, with a gray bonnet upon her head. Ben also dressed in a TIMEly fashion, sports his TRADEMARK BIFOCALS. The black and gray stove, the FOCAL point of the cartoon, appears to have coal within it, but there’s no sign of burning embers; although the stoves’ interior is partially colored in a golden hue. The Poker mentioned in Sarah’s dialogue lies on the ground. I keep wondering why the POKER is PLAYING such a dominant role, and all that comes to mind is Benjamin Franklin Poker Chips, which are well known to any Poker-playing aficionado.SCIENTIFIC reasoning? Just a thought…But aside from that, the only other thing catching my eye is the single tear on Sarah’s right cheek…Hence, again..”CRY and the FAMILY STOVE”. So, There you have it, Folks, Done! And I’ll leave you with one of Bens’ quotes that I think personifies the meaning of a true Father…”Tellme and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn“.

Hi all – LEGACY took extra time until I remembered words like AGENCY and tried the CY at the end. Next up was OVERDO until I saw the OVER separately, but I RATED TIRADE the hardest because so many other plausible words went by.
I figured FATHER would probably be in the answer today, then ING was in there, and the rest of the letters finished it off.

Angela, I used poker chips as toys while I was growing up and while playing poker with my family, but I’ve never heard of Ben Franklin poker chips, and can’t really find anything online to explain the connection. Another new fact learned here. (Why not Thomas Jefferson poker chips, hmmmm.) I *have* heard of Sly and the Family Stone though, and it gave me a good laugh.

They’re mainly professionally used, and can be extremely expensive. And I didn’t say or ask if there was any connection to Ben himself…As far as I’ve ever known, the only thing is maybe because there’s a hologram $100 bill on a label. So I apologize if I caused you to go off on a wild goose chase. There was never any question of a connection put out there. I probably worded it wrong. I only mentioned it really as an aside to Jeff, because I FOUND it so amusing, and was referring to his whimsy and penchant for poker. That’s why I slipped in a Franklin pun “SCIENTIFIC reasoning”…and added “Just a thought.”, because it might just be my whimsy instead! The poker might have been just what’s handy near a stove/fireplace to make a DING with! So I probably should have phrased it a lot differently…and DEALT it directly to Jeff. Legacy is the one word that took me the longest to solve but other than that it was an easy one today. Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads out there.

LEGACY took me the longest because I thought the Y would not be the last letter since CAGLEY has a Y at the end. I got ding because I remembered it was a word in the answer of a previous puzzle.

As for today, all words were a struggle and still haven’t solved puzzle yet.
