CNASK – SNACK

PIGER – GRIPE

NSISIT – INSIST

TRYUSD – STURDY

CARTOON ANSWER:

THE U.S. FLAG WAS CHANGED IN 1960 BECAUSE ALASKA AND HAWAII WERE – – –

SNA GRI IS STR = RISING STARS

Good Morning, Everyone!        🇺🇸 HAPPY FLAG DAY, AMERICA 🇺🇸

🎶 You’re a grand old FLAG…You’re a high-flying  FLAG, and forever in peace may you wave…You’re the emblem of the land I love, the home of the free and the brave…🎶  “Youre a Grand Old Flag” –  James Cagney  1942

🇺🇸 As human beings we all know that we GRIPE now and then…
But we know as a country…our loyalty is genuine
I INSIST every time I hear somebody knock our land,
That we elect the ones who make it fail or make it grand.
We’re STURDY as a country, our pride should never lack…
(I have to waste a line here…or I can’t get rid of SNACK)
Today we honor our great Flag…let’s fly it near and far…
And salute all that it stands for… this country of RISING STARS…🇺🇸
Going through our words this morning, I find myself WAVEring a little. Could it be possible that we’re seeing another TWO NEW entries again today? SNACK and STURDY? I searched high and low, and RED through years worth of puzzles until I was BLUE in the face, but I just couldn’t find them being used before. Snack and Sturdy…Catchy, right? Sounds like a good name for one of those packs of reusable bags that are becoming so popular lately, doesn’t it? You know the kind…durable, washable…environmentally correct? Hmm. I wonder if the idea would FLY…But I digress…They just seem like such common ordinary words, that I thought for sure we had seen them before. Anyway, I did find GRIPE, in fact I found it a few times…and even though today’s anagram is new, ‘PERIG’ FLAGged out because it appeared exactly that way in 2015, ‘17 and as recently as 10/23/18. A very sweet repeat. And INSIST is also an old favorite going back a few years. So, with none of our words causing any WAVES, it’s time to see what MATERIAL Jeff’s given us to work with today…
The year 1960, on the field of a military base somewhere in America…We see our Grand Old Flag being raised, and 10 soldiers attending the ceremony, standing at attention. Knowing that any man in uniform must salute the Flag as it’s being raised, I’m uncertain as to why the soldier who obviously has handed the folded Flag to the hoister isn’t doing so. Ok, all you Military men out there…write in and let me know.  One soldier, obviously excited over the acquisition of ALASKA in 1959, and HAWAII, in 1960,  is overheard saying how great it is “to have them as states now…” And with those two states, our flag became what it is today..50 WHITE STARS on a field of BLUE. So, in answer to our question…Alaska and Hawaii wereRISING STARS. Good one, David…you’re definitely a STAR in our book!
Ok, eye candy…With a shaded light blue panel, the only color seen is the Khaki uniform shirts of our soldiers. Two white clouds are shown overhead, while five blackened domes appear in the background. Barracks, tents? I’m not sure. The Flagpole is encircled with stones, and our Flag can be seen softly blowing in the breeze, with Jeff having drawn lines of motion below it. Sadly, the Flag doesn’t show it’s colors…but I’m making it the STAR of the show today. Our beautiful RED,WHITE and BLUE. So, There you have it Folks, Done! Have a great day, Everyone…And I hope all America joins with me in proudly flying our FLAG today! 🇺🇸🙋🏻
🇺🇸 When we honor our flag we honor what we stand for as a Nation — freedom, equality, justice, and hope.” — Ronald Reagan.
May SHE forever wave…
🇺🇸

    • Thanks Mike! Now this is interesting (to me). I haven’t gotten a notification on my phone yet. If I go to the Apple App store and search for ‘Just Jumble’, it just shows the current revision and an ‘Open’ button which opens my current version (which I’ve completed). But when I click on your link, the same App store opens to the page that says “Update”. Very strange, but thanks for letting me get a head start, especially since I just finished the latest WSWT revision.

      • I manually update my apps from time to time and I saw that it was new. Figured that I’d share the news with everyone. That is strange!!! 🤔

    • Also, welcome to “Just Baseball” season, free of the annoying hockey and basketball, until the NfL starts up (any minute now!) 🙋🏻‍♂️

        • We didn’t even get to hear fireworks at my house! 😂 That’s ok, I’ll survive, and *my* school year is permanently over! 🙋🏻‍♂️

  1. Good morning! Can’t gripe today, not after last night’s snack.Tasty. I feel sturdy as a tree viewing the morning sun & expecting a bright day followed by a bright night of rising stars. One can only ask, not insist, for more. Aaah Karma! It’s glorious!

    • 🏀We all try to be funny…but sometimes don’t succeed..
The bottom line, we all enjoy the things here that we read…
We give you due for last night…but sportsmanship must dwell…
We’re not a group of gloaters though…’cause they can go to h—l..
Congrats are now in order, I don’t begrudge your win…
But let’s not beat a dead horse..’cause then my nerves wear thin…

Congratulations to the Raptors. Well played…🏀🙋🏻

  2. You’re right Angela
I felt a need to succeed at humor that.
    fell flat, as a hat
    chewed by a rat
    (OMG! please don’t shoot me.)

    • No worries, Jamu. I’m just breaking your shoes…Anyway, it’s not THAT..😂 My GRIPE’s not with you…I’m just a little frustrated because I’m trying to adjust the spacing on my post, and it’s not working. And I INSIST I’m doing it the same way I’ve always done. I’m using a new device, and I guess even though it’s STURDY, some functions may be different…But It’s driving me nuts! …I think I need a SNACK…preferably something liquid…and strong! 😉🙋🏻

  3. Since the two STURDY new actors were destined to be RISING STARS, the studio had to INSIST that they didn’t GRIPE about the food in the SNACK bar located on the movie lot.

    • Good Morning, Chuck…👏🏻👏🏻Kudos! And you squeezed the answer words in there too! Major Kudos! How funny that I wrote my poem with STURDY men in mind too…albeit with a different reasoning! 😉 Glad to see you, missed you yday…Hope you’re having a great day! 🇺🇸🙋🏻

° He loved the old cabinet…built so STURDY, and so full of memories of all the times he snuck a SNACK late at night…but his wife did nothing but GRIPE about it, and INSIST he take it down…especially since she started watching all those Home Improvement shows, with their one-shot RISING STARS…

° She wanted someone STURDY…on that she did INSIST,
And she wasn’t one to wait around for opportunities missed.
She saw him at the SNACK Bar of the neighborhood local gym,
And knew she had to meet him…come hell or high-water swim…
But sadly it was futile…he just wasn’t her type…
‘Cause it turned out he had a list of things that made him GRIPE..
Oh well, that’s life she told herself…it’s just the way things are…
But at the gym she still looks for some other RISING STARS!

  4. Good morning. Loved the jumble today. Not just because I solved it rather quickly but because of what it stands for. I’ll get back to that but first,I have to give STURDY the edge for hardest word only because it took a pause to get. The cartoon answer was a gem to get. It took a few minutes to realize the flag was the key to the answer and when I wrote down the letters I saw STARS first followed by RISING. One of the greatest feelings in my life was in boot camp marching with everybody and the band is playing and your “Passing In Review” (approaching the flag) and you turn your head right and salute the flag. You whole body tingles with intense pride. Was it the Battle hymn of the republic playing or just being part of something great,I don’t know. I haven’t had that intense feeling since. I’ve had great moments but not where the hair raises up and you have goose bumps all over your body. Angela, when your in the military you just do what they say,you never ask why. They want robots. Yours is not to reason why,but to do or die. Loved your post. In answer to your question, I forgot that it was on TV last night. It was some of the players. I had just left less than ten minutes before the camera crew showed up. Two of the girls were Angie and her sister. I forgot who the others were left. At least 6-8 of us had left. They were hoping to get some action on the poor work that was done on the overhang that leaks badly and no material to put down to fix the court. Don’t know if that came across in the interview. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Brooklyn…I have it for you…Want to see it? And then I’ll get back to your comment? 🤔🙋🏻

    • Brooklyn, I guess you left..Your description of that “feeling” gave me my own goose bumps just now. Beautifully said. I thank you for sharing…I’m big on patriotism…and I can’t ever hear any patriotic song without choking up, I’m a complete wuss when it comes to things like that…So…ok, I understand about the “just following orders”, but there has to be a definitive answer to why that soldier’s not saluting. I RED through a lot of articles this morning, but as I told Jamu, I started having format problems, and I just threw in the towel…Anyway…Last year after you had told me about the fiasco with the city’s faux pas, I mentioned it to my friend. I was watching the game last night, and he called me to come upstairs and see the segment on the news, because he figured it was about your court. But I got there too late. So I looked it up, and I found the video. It’s really good. Sonny? Is he the one that drove you crazy? The piece covers it all, exactly as you’ve explained it, and I think Diaz did a good job with the coverage, pics and all. I hope it’ll get you guys some results..Again, let me know if you want me to post it for you. Thanks for the Shout Out, Brooklyn, and I hope your days going well, 🇺🇸🙋🏻

      • Thanks for that. Diaz did a great job. I hope it does some good for us. Sonny is not the guy. He and I are chairmen in the club. All that means is that we are the flunkies that most of the time get there and open up the bins and water and groom the courts. We have slacked off because there are few of them that help out. If we don’t wet down the dusty court it never gets done. There is maybe four other guys that will broom it,smooth it out. You hate it when they expect it to be done. Even putting out the balls is limited to guys that help. The two girls in the video are sisters. Sonny and those two girls plus another one beat three of the four best players not once but three different times. It was a pleasure to see the guys lose..Because they take the game seriously. They hate to lose. They are reminded often too. The girls are darn good especially Angie who happens to be an angel.

        • First, let’s set the record straight about something…ALL of us Angelinas are Angels! 😂 It’s inevitable!😉 You’re very welcome, Paul, I’m so glad I thought to look for it for you .But I was so hoping you were in there somewhere… Yes, Diaz covered all the bases…he done good! I too hope it gets you guys some help. And he’s no slouch with that Bocce either, right? He didn’t do bad for his first time out…And I hear you as far as to who does what. It’s always the way..no matter where you go.. I remember you telling me last year about that “Fearless Foursome” too. .Whatd’ya gonna do? Some people just gotta win! Have a great day, Brooklyn…and save the video! 🇺🇸🙋🏻

  5. Looks like Alaska became a state in January of 1959 and Hawaii in August of 1959. They added one star to the flag in 1959 and then one more in 1960? I guess that is what you are referring to since it is the year 1960 in the cartoon.

    • Hi Clay. Good Morning. Well not really “added”. I’m pretty sure they had to mass produce all new flags. Two Flags in the course of one year. I included the link that tells of the 49-Star Flag being produced in ‘59 for Alaska, and another in ‘60 when Hawaii came on as the 50th. And it’s always done officially on the 4th of July. How cool is that? A lot of good material gone to waste though, huh? And I say that with all due respect. All the 49’ers had to be burned, I’m sure. In fact, today’s the day that we’re supposed to dispose of any frayed or damaged flags by burning them. I remember once as a kid, doing so with my Father and a bunch of Veterans at a VFW Post. I thought it was so exciting, and touching. 🇺🇸🙋🏻

  6. Paul: My greatest feeling in service was coming back. Some years later I met a veteran who had been in serious confrontations & thanked him for his heroism; he growled back “I’m not a hero, I’m a survivor!” My cousin (also a vet) explained who had lived his experiences felt the fallen were the heroes not themselves.
I realized that I without ever having voicing it felt the same way. But I guess for servicing, thanks would be O.K.

    • Nicely said Jamu. I know so many Vets who came back “battle-scarred” emotionally…the walking wounded. There’s still days that they “drift off” into their own personal hells. It’s sad…But I think you all to be heroes..and you have my utmost respect. Thank you for your service…I raise my cap to you. 🇺🇸🙋🏻

    • I counted the days when I was getting out. Thank God it wasn’t doing a war. The second time I recalled because of the cuban crisis. I didn’t reenlist for the reserves because our squadron wasn’t supposed to be activated because of being in the Korean War. But if I had to do it all over again I would because its really not a bad life. Three square meals and you do get to see the world if your lucky.

    • That’s ok. No problem. Any time you see a blue line in the post, that’s a link to an article..
But I messed up the format today, so the post looks all JUMBLED together…😉😉🙋🏻

  7. Hi all – Got the words today, then figured START must be in the answer and wrote the letters to see RISING, confirmed by the fact that the flag is being raised.

Funny coincidence – I might have thought that the new flag would take effect on Flag Day, but I was just reading recently how it was actually officially raised for the first time on July 4, 1960.

Angela, you got me thinking that in addition to the guy not saluting, the main character shouldn’t be talking. Also, I looked in Wikipedia and found (somewhat to my surprise) that, as long as it is done with reverence and an appropriate ceremony, it is proper to dispose of a flag by burning, burying, recycling or donating it.

    Have a great day, everyone!

“He would GRIPE if his SNACK fell through a flimsy paper bag, so he would always INSIST on a STURDY container from the food truck”.

    • …Sounds like your boy could use one of the “SNACK and STURDY” bags, 😉huh? 👏🏻👏🏻🙋🏻

      • Yes, I think so. 😂 By the way, since I’m from RI, I’ll venture a guess that those shadowed domes are Quonset Huts. 🙋🏻‍♂️

        • Hey, G. No need at all to be from RI… I found it right after I published this morning, by just googling domed barracks, but I didn’t want to risk another chance at messing up the format. HUTever I did wrong this morning only got worse every time I tried to edit…I realized they were probably sailors too, but again…gun shy. Here’s hoping I don’t have a repeat performace tomorrow! 😱🙋🏻

  8. Here’s the last entry in my Basketball Diaries for now:

Special note to Betty: We’ve packed up your new toy and are shipping it across the Bay. Despite the short distance, don’t expect it to arrive until October, and we’re sorry that it’s pretty badly damaged, but we just couldn’t resist playing hard with it one last time. 😂

Congrats to the Raptors. How odd that the championship the city of Toronto expected and waited so long for came from the Raptors instead of the Maple Leafs! They made our loss easier to take because they played hard and fair without the flopping and crying we’ve seen from others. And they kept their composure and character, especially in the way Kyle Lowry adroitly handled the situations with the Warriors’ idiot part-owner, and the small minority of Toronto fans who uncharacteristically and briefly cheered an injury.

As for the Warriors, a fractured chest, a torn Achilles and a torn ACL to their biggest stars, and they still almost pulled it out in the last second. Anyone who endured 40 years of awful teams and terrible ownership has nothing but gratitude for 5 straight trips to the Finals (so far), a record 73 win season and three championships in four years. All this 3-peat would have done would have been to elevate them from the historic to the mythical. Thanks for the memories!

    • Oh, Steve, don’t apologize for sending the Warriors to us no matter what shape they’re in. They may be bloodied but they’re unbowed. They truly lived up to their name last night and I’m only sorry that you couldn’t have one more win at Oracle. And you’re right we had many painful years before these past few wonderful ones. Sic transit gloria mundi. So we’ll regroup and hope for the best next year. By the way, one of the new logo for their jersey is going to have the Golden Gate Bridge on it. I’ve promised my grandson one with of course #30 on it. Take Care.

      • Yes Betty, the new logo is actually kind of a mash-up. It still has the cables from the new Bay Bridge, but they added the horizontal cross pieces to resemble the Golden Gate towers. Hope nobody gets too confused, like the Raptors did just before this series started when the released a picture of their team showing them standing on the GG Bridge!

  9. 🎵“Ah yes, I remember it well”.🎵 😂 In school, watching Eisenhower unveil the 49-star version.

  10. Paul read your Cuban crisis remark with interest. According to friends the reason it didn’t explode was that two double agents one CIA, one KGB fed their leaders misleading info to each about the other regarding missile & nuclear inventories & the futility of continuing confrontation, to agree to face saving concessions. I can only further add that these two double agents died on the SAME date a year apart. Curious? Me too; hard to believe.
