MLIEUH – HELIUM

CARTOON ANSWER:

AFTER THE FIRE AT THE BARBERSHOP, ALL THE BARBER COULD DO WAS – – –

THT   COG   BOR   HIUM   = COMB THROUGH IT

Good Morning, Everyone!         🔥  HAIR TODAY….GONE TOMORROW 🔥

🎶 We didn’t start the FIREIt was always BURNING since the world’s been turning…We didn’t start the FIRE, no we didn’t light it…But we tried to fight it…🎶 “We Didn’t Start The Fire” – Billy Joel  1989

🔥 A fire’s such a horrid thing, its’ results like a THEFT,
The loss of everything you’ve owned…leaving one quite bereft…
You COUGH as you look through the ash, thinking of the BEFORE,
Your HELIUM-like dreams now to be gone…forever more.
The sadness that comes with it, a person needs true grit,
The aftermath a heartbreak as you now must COMB THROUGH IT 🔥

Running very late this morning, I almost failed to remEMBER to look up our words. I only did a quick SEARCH, but I couldn’t find HELIUM, while our other three words are all old favorites. THEFT and COUGH go as far back as 2011, with THEFT being repeated on 05/03/18, making it our most recent entry, and COUGH showing up again in 2016. And BEFORE was last seen on 11/28/17. I’m going to take another look LIGHTER, and see if I find HELIUM…And it was only COUGH that caused 3 of the Early Birds to slightly pause…Ok, WATER you say we move on to our cartoon…

Finding ourselves at the scene of a recent barbershop fire, today we see a Fire Inspector speaking to the Barber, who’s brought to his knees by the entire ordeal. Amidst the rack and ruin, we hear that at this moment the Barbers’ biggest regret seems to be the loss of his vintage magazines, and he laments their being destroyed. But the Inspector has a job to do, and with his margin for error being RAZOR thin, he knows that there’ll be hell TOUPEE if he doesn’t identify the cause of the fire. He feels though, that that since he’s done so, the case is closed, and he seems somewhat annoyed to still be at the SCENE OF THE LIME. And we hear him wondering aloud what more reason is there to be searching the ashes…But let’s face it, this man who’s business is ruined, isn’t looking to cause any RUBBLE, but he is understandably upset, so the Inspector should be CUTTING him some slack…He wants to sift through the remains, and the Inspector should really just BUZZ off for a while, and let him be. Because in Barberspeak..all he could do right now is…COMB THROUGH IT. And for your PART, David…very well done!

Ok eye candy…At the top left of the panel, we can see the ubiquitous symbol of a Barber Shop, the iconic Red and White Pole, although it’s shown in Black and White. …And yet, the entire panel is shaded in red...I guess to denote the HEAT of the moment. A black chair is shown, complete with the lever to adjust the hydraulic recline feature. Nice detail, Jeff. And on the floor behind it, the Barbicide Jar, still intact, can be seen… with two COMBS falling from it. The only color present is our two characters. The Inspector, dressed in uniform blue, has details of gold…Stripes on his epaulets, a bar on his shirt, an emblem patch of a burning fire on his sleeve, and a badge on his hat. He’s seen holding what appears to be the culprit, a burnt, melted HAIR dryer, with a flaming red...What do you COIL it? The inner workings? A fan and a motor? Well, whatever its’ name, showing it in red definitely identifies it as the cause of the fire. And the plug at the end of its’ wire is frayed. More cause for ALARM. And then we have our Barber. He seems to have a rather distinctive look, and may possibly be a “real” someone Jeff knows. Dressed in the classic white Barber jacket, he’s seen holding still smoldering pieces of his “ruined collection” of vintage magazines. But if you look real closely, the half-charred, still lit magazine piece in his hand? It reads “JUMBLE”. Oh no…there are no WORDS! So, There you have it Folks, Done! Have a great day, Everyone…And that’s the LONG and SHORT of it! 🔥🙋🏻

  1. DISCLAIMER: I really had a hard time making light of such a serious subject, and I just want to go on record saying that it’s not something I take lightly. The ruin of fire is devastating, and my apologies to anyone who unfortunately may have gone through one. I’d also like to recognize our neighbors in Virginia Beach, suffering through one more senseless mass shooting. My heart and prayers go out to you. 🙏🏻🙋🏻

  2. Good morning. Cough took the longest to get. The others came quickly but that simple word had me stumped for a few minutes. The cartoon answer also took some time to get but it finally popped into my head. Another clever finish for the boys. Angela I’ll check out the song after this. Don’t think I know that one. Enjoyed your post. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Good Morning, Brooklyn. I just went back to edit my post, to include the fact that 3 of my friends also had to pause at COUGH. I really rushed through the writing this morning, and forgot to mention it. As for the song, I think you’ll recognize it, but I’m not too sure that you’ll like it…Thanks for the Shout Out, and I totally agree that it’s a very clever finish today. Have a great day, Brooklyn, and I hope you get to enjoy the outdoors. 🙋🏻

  3. Listened to your song choice Angela. It was the perfect fit. It sounds familiar but I wouldn’t have been able to sing along with them. One of my sister-in -laws has had not one but two houses lost completely due to fires. It’s really has to be devastating when you lose all your possessions. What hurt the most for her was all the family pictures.

    • Hey, Brooklyn…We passed by one another again. Thank you, I thought it fit quite well too. And as far as singing along, you’re not alone. It’s one hell of a fast paced song. I’m glad you liked it though. Fire…I can’t even imagine. Two? My God, how horrible. And I can totally understand…the pictures, the memories. I don’t think I’d even know where to start if I was ever faced with the situation. It’s definitely something to consider…making one of those “to grab” bags that you hear spoken of…Anyway, phew! It’s sad…and scary. And that’s why I posted that disclaimer…I’d hate to offend anyone by “joking” about a fire. This is all “show business”, as I like to call it. It definitely doesn’t “show” how I really feel about certain things. I hurt so easily for anyone else’s pain…But, unfortunately, life can be very cruel at times, and I thank God every day for the good that comes my way. Here’s to a good one, Brooklyn…🍷🙋🏻

  4. Paul…For you and Chuck…Still have to work on a poem…🙋🏻

° BEFORE he got hit with another THEFT, the man with the HELIUM balloon business decided to COUGH up the money and install an alarm…in the meantime, with his office in shambles, he needed to COMB THROUGH IT…

    • There you are! You’ve been MIA a day or two…I thought you threw in the towel! Good Morning, Chuck! 👏🏻👏🏻 Very nicely done! Kudos! I went with a HELIUM shop owner too…not much wiggle room there…although I’m trying to come up with a different slant for a poem. Just haven’t gotten to it yet….still juggling as usual. I like your COUGH drop chewing man! LOL! And as we speak, I just so happened to open up a new bag of my famous Burt’s Bees Honey and Lemon throat drops…They’re my go to with all the pollen sucking the air out of Staten Island…it carpets everything…including obviously my throat! Ok, gotta try my hand at the poem…Good to see you, Chuck..and again…nice job! 🙋🏻

    • Chuck…Not much time to spare, definitely not my best effort…but I gave it a shot, and at least I broke the HELIUM store mold! Hope you like it! 😂 🙋🏻

° With HELIUM a lighter gas and inert just as well,
He figured it’d be easy for an oral report to tell…
But then he became nervous, and a COUGH gave him away,
It ended up a THEFT- like scene…since it just stole his day.
And BEFORE he recovered, all his note cards he had dropped,
The presentation now was ruined, he definitely had flopped…
And as the student body, plus his teacher just could sit…
He had no choice except to bend and slowly COMB THROUGH IT…

    • Good Morning, Professor. Yes, it certainly isn’t. Hence, my disclaimer…And yes, I agree again. I found all our words today to be easy, breezy, and the solve a cute clever one. Enjoy the road trip, Prof…and of course your Family! Have a good one! 🌞🙋🏻

  5. Hi all – Paused for a second at COUGH after seeing GAUCHO.
*Almost* gave up on the answer. Thought about SWEEPING or CLEANING UP, but there was no N or P. ‘IT’ had to be the last word, but couldn’t see any 4-letter words until finally COMB appeared.

Good thing the puzzle’s online – I wouldn’t have seen the ‘Jumble” on the magazines and thought the cop was holding a camera for his investigation.

    Have a great day, everyone!

Thanks for the extra details Angela. I couldn’t figure out the barber chair, and although I’ve heard of Barbasol, I’ve never heard of Barbicide; I would have thought it was a type of crime. Also made me laugh with “hell toupee” 😂

“The THEFT of HELIUM was unsolvable until the thief’s high-pitched COUGH gave him away.”

    • Hey, G. Ok, right off the bat…do a re-write on your sentence, which is a good one, BEFORE it’s too late! 😉 And you’re very welcome for the details. Without the online pic’s, let’s face it, we’d never see much of anything. I don’t care how big a magnifying glass one has, there’s just no way to pick up on these tiny little things. And I had to really scrutinize the pic to get to the hair dryer, it was up in the HAIR there for a while…But finally it was the COIL that WOUND it up for me…And speaking of glass, I remember us having this Barbicide conversation last time out. Doesn’t it sound familiar?…That’s what they’re called Barbicide Jars…and I did chuckle at the murder reference..😉.Thanks for the Shout Outs, and I laughed at my hell TOUPEE too…I just kept HAIRing it in my head! Ok..I’ll wait for your edit…BEFORE I CUT out! 😂🙋🏻

    • HI Chuck. Thank you very much…I suppose I do have an odd relationship with words! They’ve always intrigued me…And those X-word puzzles always helped…Hope you’ve had a good day, Chuck, and wishing you a great evening. Enjoy! 🙋🏻
