LIGUD – GUILD

THIDW – WIDTH

CREFIE – FIERCE

PORGEH – GOPHER

CARTOON ANSWER:

BECAUSE HE’D PUT ON A FEW POUNDS, HE HAD TO TELL THE OTHER HIKERS TO – – –

GU   WT   IE   PH   =   “WEIGHT” UP

Good Morning, Everyone!           🚶🏻”WEIGHT” EVER IT TAKES...🚶🏻

🎶 If it takes forever, I WILL WAIT FOR YOU…For a thousand summers, I WILL WAIT FOR YOU...’Till you’re back BESIDE ME, ’till I’m holding you…’Till I hear you sigh, here in my arms…🎶 “I Will Wait for You” – Bobby Darin 1966

🚶🏻He joined a GUILD of climbers, but months had now gone by,
He once felt FIERCE and healthy, only now he wondered why…
So quickly was he sluggish, always feeling like a loafer,
He hibernated way too long…like February’s GOPHER.
So now he’s up a mountain…but his WIDTH has taken turn…
His waistline’s telling him that he had calories to burn…
He wishes he was smarter, and before this hike he schluped?
He should have tried a stairmaster…cause now it’s all “WEIGHT” UP 🚶🏻

Not looking to make a MOUNTAIN out of a molehill, and aware that David did promise us new words would be coming, I still can’t help but wonder would we have both of our 6-letter words coming in as fresh-faced today? Especially that it’s a Saturday? Well, it sure seems that way…and believe me, I searched…I came up empty looking for FIERCE, and it was a GOPHER broke effort looking for the other. But they’re both gnawing at me because they seem way too familiar. Maybe David will pop UP and enlighten us. As for GUILD, it dates way back to 10/19/10, and WIDTH comes in as of 06/02/16. Quite a DISTANCE between them…And it was FIERCE that SLOWED DOWN two Early Birds this morning…actually, it had one CLIMBING the walls…

So…what’s worse than CLIMBING a MOUNTAIN? Uh…nothing. I mean let’s be honest, Folks..how many of you out there can see yourself in the position our boy here has gotten himself into today? Show of hands…Oh, ok…144 of you…Hmm..I didn’t even think the number would be that HIGH. Well, it’s still GROSS to me…I mean if God intended for me to climb a mountain, would He have invented HIGH heeled shoes? Would He have invented VERTIGO? Would He have made me so HIGH maintenance? Uh, I think KNOT…Ok, perhaps I digress… If you all remember, exactly 3 weeks ago today, May 4th, we were on another one of these DEPTH-Defying missions…And where’d that get us? Ok, maybe to the TOP, but you still have to get DOWN, am I right? ABSEILutely! Anyway, today’s 3 characters embarked on a mission, looking to be ROCK Stars. They underSTOOD the phrase, “TAKE A HIKE” to mean just that. Two of them are seen REACHING their goal, while one, who I’ll call CRAiG, is definitely not up to PEAK performance. Instead, due to his lack of POUNDing the pavement, and his obvious love of some HIGH calorie foods, he now finds himself unable to keep UP, not FITting in with the others, So he’s annOUNCEing to his friends to please “WEIGHT” UP…And what we have here Folks is a man who just took too much for GRANITE

Ok, eye candy. We see rugged cocoa and black colored mountains, with silhouetted fir trees, one perched way UP at the TOP at a PEAK. A bit of a scraggly remnant at a cliffside. There’s puffy white clouds against a beautiful blue sky. CRAiG, clad in black shorts, with a khaki green shirt, knee socks and hat, is shown with his stomach bared under his ill-FITting shirt. He’s carrying a backpack, and a walking stick. His two friends at TOP, shown in shades of blue and brown, are carrying back packs, but no walking sticks. A BOULDER move…But if you look real closely, there’s a bead of sweat on CRAiG’s cheek, and combined with his open-mouthed expression showing his struggle, it’s enough to SUMMIT all UP for me. So, There you have it Folks, Done! Have a great day, Everyone…And let’s try being more like this group today….LIFTING one another UP, setting out sights a little HIGHER, sPEAKing more kindly of our neighbor…And let’s not let anything get in our WEIGH….🚶🏻🙋🏻

  1. Good morning. Another new song Angela that I never heard before. Nice Photos with the music. Loved how you got the words in. I bow to your talent today. Another day of no problem with either the words or cartoon answer. They both were solved lickety-split Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Good Morning, Brooklyn, LOL! Lickety-split! How I love that expression…You’d die laughing if you heard my “little” Little ones trying to say it…I crack up. For some reason they get all tongue tied over it! It’s hysterical.. I’m so surprised though that you’ve never heard my song today. It’s been recorded by so many artists…Very pretty song…I’m glad you liked it, and yes, nice pictures. I’m with you on the puzzle too, Paul, another easy breezy one, and very clever to boot. And thanks sooo much for the Shout Out, you’re such a sweet 😘 man. Have a great day, Brooklyn… The weather’s beautiful… 🚶🏻🙋🏻

  2. Good Morning, Chuck…I played around with the words a little, and I wasn’t sure in which DIRECTION to take them…I give these words a 6, on a SCALE of 1 to 10. .Anyway, I got busy, and didn’t want to WEIGHT around anymore, so I figured I’d just GOPHER it…And here’s what I came UP with…😉🙋🏻

° After the GOPHER became entrapped in their yard, the Humane Society’s GUILD was FIERCE in their determination to force them to put fencing across the entire WIDTH of their property, and ordered them to WEIGHT UP before doing any further renovations…

💪🏻 A skinny kid with bucked teeth, the name of GOPHER stuck,
And through the years, with teasing FIERCE, he was quite out of luck…
But as he grew and his arms’ WIDTH took on a manly vein…
The other boys weren’t so quick to taunt him with that name.
And when time came to organize a GUILD to help the youth,
They voted him the president…Imagine, him…forsooth!
The moral here is sometimes before runneth ‘oer ones’ cup…
You first must work out and make sure you just get your WEIGHT UP! 💪🏻

    • LOL! You know, Clay..you’re right! Good Morning! …But it must just be a coincidence, because David chooses the words, and Jeff does the artwork. I wonder if we could WEASEL an explanation out of them though! 😂 🙋🏻

  3. Well we’re off to Dixon, followed by Utica,Naperville,Peoria and Pekin.Fortunately my papers arrived at 5:30 before we left so I had ready access to the Jumble.Speaking of the Jumble,I found it especially easy for a Sat puzzle, even gopher didn’t cause a problem.I think we all can sympathize with a growing waist and weight problem. Finally hats off to the real meaning of Memorial Day,the former Decoration Day.

    • Good Afternoon, Professor….Boy, can you rack up the miles, or what? Safe driving…And yes, i agree, it was a very simple puzzle for a Saturday…I like your GROWING waist problem…Whether you intended the little word play or not, it reads well…Have a great weekend with your family, Prof..and stay safe 🙋🏻

  4. Hi all – The 3rd and 4th words each took extra looks today. The trick of putting IC at the end didn’t work, so I wrote the letters down twice before FIERCE jumped out (after a detour through CIFERE and a ride on a FERICE wheel). Then saw GOPHER just as I was about to write the letters. The answer was obvious.

Man, that is one scary looking hike, especially for people who look like amateurs; almost as bad as this one:
    https://tinyurl.com/Hikethis
My color Jumble shows a river running in the upper right which was a nice touch. Wouldn’t have noticed it in the black and white versions.

“The Mason’s GUILD was hired to build a wall of sufficient WIDTH to protect the garden tomatoes from the FIERCE GOPHER”.

Angela, your song was played at the end of a surprisingly poignant episode of the animated comedy “Futurama” where a character was transported into the future, and his little dog was shown waiting at that spot through the years for his return.

Also, twelve dozen thanks for reminding me of this:
🎵”Go down, Miss Moses, ain’t nothin’ you can say
It’s just old Luke, and Luke’s waiting on the judgment day
Well, Luke, my friend, what about young Annalee
He said, “Do me a favor, son, won’t you stay and keep Annalee company”
Take a load off Annie, take a load for free
Take a load off Annie, and you put the load right on me”🎵 “The Weight”, The Band 1968

    • Hey Steve…👏🏻👏🏻 Nice sentence! Well done…BUTTE the “River Runnig Through It”? I checked two in color online sites besides my newspaper…and there’s no Water, water…anywhere! Could it be another case of that CHRONic ink problem your paper seems to have? 😉…Jeff may have intended it, but I guess it just wasn’t a TOP priority….Have a good one, G! 🚶🏻🙋🏻

      • Maybe the Chronicle got one right by accident!
Story today: “The Giants lost last night 18 to 2, but it wasn’t as close as the score would indicate.” 😂
        Have a good evening! 🙋🏻‍♂️
