CARTOON ANSWER:

HE SCALED YOSEMITE’S “EL CAPITAN” WITHOUT A ROPE, WHICH HAD ONLOOKERS – –

GILL   LAS   MIW   BCN  =   CLIMBING WALLS

Good Morning, Everyone!        ⛰   SPURNING the ROPES!  ⛰

🎶 ‘Cause Baby, there AIN’T NO MOUNTAIN HIGH ENOUGH..Ain’t no valley LOW enough…Ain’t no river WIDE enough…to keep me from getting to you, Babe…🎶 “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” – Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell: 1967

⛰ You’d never have to GRILL me, nor ask nor beg besides…
There’s no need in this whole wide world to climb a mountainside…
I know it’s just opinion, but for me no doubt it’s true,
I’ll never see the joy of this…to me it’s like MILDEW
You know it when you see it…but you’ll never welcome it,
No BEACON needed to forewarn…I just don’t have the grit.
I’ll take a LASSO to a horse, but places chanced with falls?
The closest that you’ll see me are the times I’m CLIMBING WALLS…

Ok, our words..Starting from the TOP: GRILL. An old favorite in more ways than one…Making its 6th appearance today, it’s anagrammed exactly as it has been twice before, in 2016 and ’17, and last being seen on 09/01/18, it TOPS off our list as the most recently used entry. But our other three words are pretty much SCALED back…We’ve only seen LASSO (7/18) and BEACON (2/16), once each before, and it was Lasso that TIED a few of the Early Birds up for a minute or two this morning. Lastly, MILDEW didn’t CLIMB out of the Archives at all…It’s a FIRST… And speaking of FIRSTs

Standing at the foot of California’s Yosemite’s “EL CAPITAN“, this morning the Jumble brings us to the HIGH POINT of a fairly recent event. We see two men and a woman, astonished, while NERVOUSLY watching a man perform a DEPTH-defying feat. It’s June 3rd, 2017, and that man, ALEX HONNOLD, can be seen scaling up the Mountain, to become the first person ever to FREE SOLO (climb without a rope)! El Capitan. Described as “one of the great athletic feats of any kind, ever“, it prompted the making of a documentary called “Free Solo.  Directed by Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, it went on to win both an Oscar and a BAFTA award this past February. And then, on March 3rd, NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC aired it on TV, where it became the most watched documentary premier ever for the network….And if you’ve seen it, you’ll know why…Talk about a HIGHly exciting experience, watching it took my breath away…and gave me nightmares! It definitely had me…CLIMBING WALLS! Good one, David…It’s a real VERTI..GO-getter!

Eye candy? It’s really all about the MOUNTAIN, beige colored and loomimg large against the blue sky in the panel…But what’s to see from way down here? The bearded smiley face on our curly-haired dudes’ T-shirt? No…it’s not REACHING any HEIGHTS…Let’s go with the ROPE in his hands…It makes a much BOULDER statement…So, There you have it, Folks, Done! Have a great day, Everyone! And MAY THE FOURTH be with you! ⛰🙋🏻

Prayers go out to all our readers feeling the wrath of Mother Nature as she rages across so many states with storms and tornadoes…Our thoughts are with you…🙏🏻

  1. Good morning,

    Happy Saturday! My humble submission

The crowd stood fast, one grasping a lasso
Watching a friend trying to pass through
The pain of scaling a wall at parts he touched mildew
He tried not to slip, as he seized the thrill
With thoughts in head, when down – there’s lunch on the grill
Higher he climbed to the top of the beacon
Looking forward to ending this thrill he was seeking
When older his friends told stories so tall
And remembered the days he was climbing the walls

    • Good Morning, Jim. Sorry about the delay…So…Be it ever so humble…there’s no place like POEM! 👏🏻👏🏻 Bravo on your submission! Very creative! I so enjoy hearing from you. Hope you’re having a great day. 🙋🏻

    • I’ve created a monster, haven’t I? 😂😂 Good morning, Clay. I think you should be in charge of these “tags” from now on…it’ll make for a more interesting word play. I thought there’d be a Star Wars themed puzzle today,..but no such LUKE. Hope you day’s going well…🙋🏻

      • May the Fourth be with you but May Sith is right around the corner!
Very sad young death for Tammi…
She died on March 16, 1970 from complications from brain cancer, a month shy of her 25th birthday. Terrell’s funeral was held at the Janes Methodist Church in Philadelphia. At the funeral, Gaye delivered a final eulogy while “You’re All I Need to Get By” was playing. According to Terrell’s fiancé Dr. Ernest “Ernie” Garrett, who knew Gaye, her mother angrily barred everyone at Motown from her funeral, except for Gaye, whom she felt was Terrell’s closest friend.

Gaye never fully got over Terrell’s death, according to several biographers who have stated that Terrell’s death led Gaye to depression and drug abuse. In addition, Gaye’s classic album What’s Going On, an introspective, low-key work which dealt with mature themes released in 1971, was in part a reaction to Terrell’s death

        • Hey Clay. Yes, I was just telling Paul how sad the hand she was dealt. She had a beautiful voice…As for the Fourth, I’m not into Star Wars. Never saw a single movie..But I’m upset about the around the corner! Cinco de Mayo tomorrow, and I’m still a little under the weather. So, it’s looking like I may have to sit out this years festivities…💃🏻🍷It’s bad enough I’m taking a pass on the Derby parties today..😉 What’d’ya gonna do? Can’t win ’em all, I guess! Thanks for the info, Clay, and I hope your day’s going well! 💃🏻🐎🙋🏻

  2. Good morning. The top of the BEACON had MILDEW on its north side which caused the committee to LASSO the maintenance man and GRILL him why!

    • Hey Brooklyn! Aren’t you full of surprises! 👏🏻👏🏻Kudos, my Man! You done good! You guys are definitely keeping me on my toes…(which isn’t always that easy in 4 inch 👠heels)! 😂 Have a good one, Paul. 🙋🏻

  3. We left for Dixon and twin watch this morning at 6:30 and were hoping for an early delivery of the papers.Fortunately they arrived inside our storm door at 5:35 so we were good to go.I wasn’t sure of the spelling of lasso, but otherwise the anagrams were a snap as was the climbing the walls puzzle solution. Our rains have ceased for the weekend, but are in the forecast for M,Tu,and Wed.

    • Good Morning, Professor. I’m with you, today’s puzzle was an easy breezy one. And the solution was a clever one. We’re having a lot of rain here too…but I’m still counting my blessings after seeing the news coverage of what’s going on in other parts of the country. . The flooding is terrible…Mother Nature don’t play…Glad you’re home safe and sound, and I hope you get to relax and enjoy your day! ☔️💦🙋🏻

        • Sorry, Prof. I read you wrong. I saw “we left Dixon” instead of “we left FOR Dixon”. My bad…So I guess there goes the relaxing, huh? 😂😂🙋🏻

  4. Good morning again. A+ Angela on your song choice. Known fact. The late Marvin Gaye was not gay. Not that anything is wrong in that, as Jerry S and George would say. Thanks for all the extras Angela, interesting facts which I was not privy to. I picked Beacon as the hardest word. Took a minute longer at least to get, over Mildew. Spotted climb right away so I knew it was all or part of the two words. Until tomorrow stay well. Oh,with this new format I almost forgot to travel back up and see if you guys said anything. I’ve made that mistake a few times. I’ve got to keep reminding myself change is good, change is good.

    • …And Good Morning again to you too, Brooklyn. Thanks for the Shout Outs, and of course I knew you’d enjoy my song choice! They definitely made some sweet music together,..it’s a shame she died so young…And he died so tragically too, being shot by his own father…Life, SMH….Anyway, I’m glad you enjoyed the background stories that I hooked up. Wasn’t the NAT GEO stuff amazing! Give you a case of vertigo just looking at those pictures…Fantastic shots…And a very interesting man, that Alex. But you have to wonder what possesses someone to want to do what he does, right? …Me? I’m not even keen on changing light bulbs! I wait for one of the guys to do it.😉 I realized a long time ago, that the only ladder I enjoy climbing is the Social one…Safe….and so much more fun! 😂😂 As for the puzzle, CLIMB was smacking us in the face..it was a given. But I I didn’t think BEACON would be such a stickler, and I’m seeing by the voting that I was wrong. And I’m glad you stuck it out before you came here to PEAK😉! Change? I’m not big on it either. Most times I resist it with all my might…I was always more a creature of habit, and I don’t like upsetting the apple cart…But sometimes it’s just not up to us, right? You just gotta go with the flow….Hang in there, Brooklyn…We’re Met’s fans…We know that things can always be worse! 😂😂 Have a great day, Paul! 😘🙋🏻

  5. Hi all – Both LASSO and BEACON took extra looks; no problem with the others or the answer.

I also wondered whether the puzzle would reference May the Fourth.
Have a great day everyone, even if you did bet the scratched favorite in the Derby.

I agree on the song, Angela, one of my favorites.

I’m surprised you’d even watched the climbing documentary, and I share the fear of heights. But since you did, I have a YouTube link for you – just a six and a half minute stroll up a path called El Caminito del Rey; not even any rope climbing involved:
    https://tinyurl.com/Camdlrayclimb

    • Jumping and fainting? Uh, I think it’s better we stick to what we know! 😂😂 I surprised myself by watching it, G. It was by accident really. I was passing by my living room that night, and the Lous had it on…I was so intrigued…But I watched most of it PEAKing from behind Lou’s shoulder!…And trust me, it wasn’t that easy to digest…what I mentioned about the nightmares is true…it haunted me! 😉 But I think I’ll take a PASS on another adventure.today…I’m definitely not UP to anything fostering my vertigo…It was hard enough CLIMBING out of bed this morning! Thanks for thinking of me though! 😉 Have a good one, G! 🙋🏻

  6. Angela:
Nobody should miss out on Cinco de Mayo!! Surely you can have one shot of tequila! Hope you get to feeling better!

    • LOL..Hi Mike. Yes, I agree with you..but…is there such a thing as “one” shot of tequila??!😂😂😂 Tks for your thoughts, I appreciate it. Hope you’re not caught up in all these storms. 🙋🏻
