AENTTYLDYIFL = FLATLY DENY IT

Happy Thursday, everyone! For the second day in a row we welcome a brand new clue word into the Jumble lineup. SINFUL makes its debut into gameplay this morning and it was also the most difficult anagram for me to decipher. Just looking at the way it was scrambled, it looks like an actual word, albeit a derogatory one. “Get with the program, you NILFUS! The remaining three words were all recycled favorites although their anagrams came up as new. HAVEN was last used on 5/9/17 which made it the oldest of the group while FATTY was the freshest with a date of 2/13/18.

Our beloved Jumble characters are back in action this morning after a one-day hiatus. Today we encounter a group of four people that are gathered in a park and the main focus of the panel centers on the gentleman standing on a soapbox. The impassioned orator makes the claim that the earth is “like a pancake” and the visual aid to prove his case is a carboard cut-out of the planet. The remaining three characters don’t believe a word that he’s saying but they let him continue even though he’s making a bit of a NILFUS of himself!

There were plenty of details to absorb in today’s piece with the sign reading “Speakers’ Corner” perhaps being the most obvious of them all. The use of Speakers’ Corners are found all throughout Great Britain with the most notable one being in the northeast corner of Hyde Park in London. It is there that speakers may turn up unannounced and express their views on almost any subject, but they also run the risk of being heckled with today’s cartoon being a perfect example.

Since we now know that we’re in Great Britain, Jeff provided some additional details to give his work some local flair. The elder spectator is wearing a flat cap which is traditionally made out of wool. The young man in the foreground is wearing a t-shirt with a logo of the English rock band, The Clash, on the front. He’s standing next to a young woman who has a spiked mohawk, torn jeans with a wallet chain, and is carrying a soccer ball — I mean football!

The anagram for the final solution consisted of 12-letters which is the same amount as yesterday’s. The FL at the end of the anagram allowed me to find FLAT first. IT was the obvious 2-letter word leaving DENY and the -LY to finish it off. Have a terrific Thursday, and remember, a flat-earthers greatest fear is sphere itself! Cheerio!

  1. Good Morning, Mike, Good Morning, Everyone, and Happy Pi Day!

Today, we find ourselves in Hyde Park London..Looking like Flat-Earth conspiracy https://tinyurl.com/y5bmbhql theorist “Mad” Mike Hughes, our protagonist falls FLAT in comparison to what I consider to be a great piece of Eye Candy..I’m sure many of my fellow Rock Music aficionados immediately recognized the slice of Rock History that Jeff, being one of us, has given us today. The Clash https://tinyurl.com/yygpdmt7 T-shirt worn by the man at front. Known as the iconic “London Calling T-Shirt”, the image on it is taken from the cover of their third album, London Calling, considered one of the greatest Rock albums ever recorded. It shows the band’s bass player, Paul Simonon, smashing his bass guitar into the stage of the New York Palladium on September 21, 1979. https://tinyurl.com/y59kl8yh

The cover of the album, based on and paying homage to the cover of Elvis’s self-titled 1956 debut LP by repeating it’s graphic design, became one of the best known in the history of Rock Music. Photographed by Pennie Smith, the image was later cited as the “best rock ‘n roll photograph of all time” by Q magazine. There’s no DENYing that we can always depend on Jeff to give us another Rock Music gem…and a great piece of Eye Candy! Kudos, Jeff…well done! Have a great day, Everyone! And I hope we’re all sitting on top of the world today!

  2. Good Morning, Chuck B…Fun words, but I found FATTY to be limiting…🙋🏻

° The USDA called it WILDLY SINFUL, and even though they tried to FLATLY DENY IT and find a HAVEN within the courts, the Meat Industry should have realized that the FATTY content of its’ latest shipment was too suspect to meet approval…

° Looking for a safe HAVEN from the totally inappropriate happenings going on at the party, she settled in the kitchen and ended up in a rather SINFUL and WILDLY overindulgent attack on the FATTY desserts, and knew that if questioned, she’d FLATLY DENY IT…

° Sometimes it’s downright SINFUL, the FATTY foods we eat,
We WILDLY turn a blind eye to the calories in the sweets.
It can become a HAVEN, indulging on a course…
Of overeating that then leaves us having such remorse…
It’s sometimes hard to balance, but to keep healthy and fit…
We need be strong and definitely…FLATLY DENY IT

  3. Shout Out to Mike M…Thanks…and you were definitely amongst those in my mind when I wrote “aficionados”. I haven’t listened to/thought about this album and it’s cover in a while. But what a pleasant surprise, right? Have a good one! 🌎🎶🙋🏻

    • Angela:
Just from the newspaper version of the puzzle that I have, I wouldn’t have known there was anything special about that t-shirt if you guys hadn’t mentioned it, so thanks!

      • Hey Mike…You’re very welcome…And here I thought you’d be flipping out! LOL! It’s impossible to see in the paper. Just about everything in the panels are. I was psyched when I saw it. As I said, it’s been a while since I thought about the album. You should check out the on-line versions, besides the paper, if you’re interested at all in looking for the details. Paul has some seriously long legs, and the picture captured it all perfectly. Take a look at it from the link here…it looks so cool…🎶🙋🏻

  4. Hi, Angela. I couldn’t figure out the puzzle answer so here goes with my version.. The WILDLY popular new spa in town eventually turned into nothing but a SINFUL HAVEN for people of the FATTY persuasion.

    • LOL! Fatty persuasion? Adorable…but one wonders..Is it politically correct? Today we have to be so careful with our words….Seems like every Tom, Dick and Harry is so easily offended by something or the other…😉 I think the correctly acceptable term now is Horizontally Challenged! 😉 ( Is “correctly acceptable” proper English? It sounds odd)! Anyway…I had a real winner with FATTY Arbuckle, but didn’t want to cross the line by using a proper name. Although most anything involving Fatty Arbuckle crosses the line in and of itself! 😂😂 What a character he was! 😉….All joking aside, I like the spa, and I especially like the SINFUL HAVEN…Good job, 👏🏻👏🏻 Chuck! Hope you’re having a good one! 🙋🏻

      • Thanks, Angela. Believe it or not, I’ve never heard the term “horizontally challenged”. Fatty Arbuckle was indeed quite a guy. I just read where he, supposedly, discovered Bob Hope. Enjoy the warm day!

        • You’re very welcome, Chuck, I enjoyed it. Yes, horizontally challenged. Thrown around in those PC conversations. As I said, today it’s walking a thin line, not to step on anyone’s WOES! 😉 Bob Hope? MY Bob Hope???? My Sarong Man? 😉 I didn’t know that…But I do know that he’s “credited” with discovering a lot of other things! 😉I’m going to look it up…And yes, so nice and warm…I opened up all the windows and doors…I sooo love Spring. I hope we have a real one this year…🌞🌷🙋🏻

  5. Sinful wasn’t a problem for me but haven looked like heaven at first. The final solution was pretty much a blind solve with all the cartoon talk of the earth being flat, like Kyre Irving had declared several weeks ago, bringing flatly deny it readily to mind.

    • Hey Professor. I thought of him this morning too. You know he ended up regretting saying it, and apologized to Science teachers for the statement. He’s a little odd, and I can’t get what these players think they achieve by alienating the media so badly. At least the other day he owned up to “not handling things so perfectly”. And I’m glad he didn’t get hurt worse then he did the other night. Hopefully “Uncle Drew” can just stick to counting his money and being cool…Have a good one, Prof! 🗣🏀🙋🏻

  6. Good morning. My choice for hardest word was Sinful. I had it right away but the more I looked at it the more I thought it should have two Ls. Finally I checked and was surprised I was right all along. The cartoon answer I gave up after awhile and seeing the brilliant answer,I should have gotten it. I’ll chalk it up to BUS lag. Going to A/C it took at least an extra 45 minutes because the three lanes were cut down to one for some reason. After winning and losing and winning and losing, the final tally while going back to Brooklyn turned out that I lost a total of $13. The $25 lunch comp they gave me still gave me a reason to smile. The other Angie and I went to Hardrock and played there for awhile and entered a contest they had for 55 and over. There were a few more from our group that tried the slot game. Nice job Mike and Angela, you guys educated me again. Never even gave it a thought that it took place in London. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Thank you, Brooklyn 😘 First thought? Paul can’t spell Sinful because he’s such a good Church-going man. 😉 And believe me, there’s not many of you left. Sadly. But I had to laugh with you coming home $13 in the red. Some of the seriously superstitious gamblers I know? Coming or going, they won’t “touch” 13. They’d leave that extra dollar bill somewhere….Some of the stories, Paul? I split my sides laughing!!! And thanks for calling the other Angie…the other Angie! I started calling my friend Paul…the other Paul! 😂…Have a good one, Brooklyn! 😘🙋🏻

      • Lol. Thanks Angela for the complement. I’m actually following that 50-60s song where the guy has to be good to see his baby (sweetheart) when he leaves this world. That’s my goal and I’ll try to stick by it.

        • Jeez, Brooklyn…You’re killing me here! How sweet are you? You really got me choked up. Listen, IMO? You could sin ’till the cows come home, and I doubt it’d make a difference. I don’t think you’ve got anything to worry about, Brooklyn… You’re a shoe-in. And you’re such a Sweetheart besides! ♥️ Your wife was one lucky woman…
So, here you go…You know I knew what song you meant in a heartbeat. I hope you enjoy it. I teared 😢up once while reading your post, and a second time listening to this…
          I think I need a drink!

Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers – 1964. https://tinyurl.com/y3j36d32

      • Angela, you nailed it with the song and if it wasn’t for lent because I gave up all the goodies, I would have you pick a time and we would host a drink for a toast. There are so many old songs that can move a person. One of my favorites is”Papa was a rolling stone”. It makes me thank God I was raised in a normal household. I was blessed having great parents. Another record is “Birthday Surprise ” Its actually the b side by Johnny Maestro from either the Crest or Brooklyn Bridge. The jest of it is that the guy thinks his girl is cheating on him because he saw her leaving with his best friend. He sees all his friends going into an apartment but himself so finally he decides to confront her and rings the bell and when he enters they all yell out surprise Happy Birthday. I can just picture the guy going nuts thinking she’s cheating on him. There is three or more that can really make you think. One being Part Time Lover. His cheating on his wife and at the end she’s playing his game too. You really got me going here. Take care.

        • Hey Paul. Thanks, Brooklyn, you’re just too sweet. Move a person is right. I have a list myself. And I like your choices, too. I think most people have a list…and then there’s that group of songs that makes everybody pause…As long as I didn’t upset you..because I ended up upsetting myself…I’m just a wuss! I’m glad you enjoyed hearing it again, and I hope the rest of your night goes well…Pleasant dreams, Brooklyn…💤🙋🏻

  7. Hi all – SINFUL took a couple of looks. Then I wrote down the letters, saw FLAT, and the answer appeared.

NILFUS *should* be a word Mike. It reminds me of a combo of NIMROD and DOOFUS. A “football” indeed. Yesterday Canada, today England, where next?

Thanks for the details and songs Angela. I knew the Clash T-shirt was because of “London Calling”, but couldn’t see what the image was. And yes, anyone familiar with album covers instantly flashed on Elvis’ when they first saw the Clash’s. And you can never go wrong with Les Paul and Mary Ford.

(In honor of today’s date) You can FLATLY DENY IT, but the FATTY cream cheese-filled PI at the Coffee HAVEN is WILDLY SINFUL.

    Have a great day, everyone!

Creedence Clearwater is stalking me. First on the hospital hold music yesterday, then the song from the ceiling at Peet’s this morning – the first big hit, “Susie Q”.

    • Hey Steve. You’re welcome. CCR.. Just about everything they did was a keeper. There’s a Sue in one of my brothers wives’ families, and I always played that song for the kids from when they were little. By now they know all the words by heart! 😉 The opening riff is a gem, and I remember when I first heard it on the radio, I thought it might be the Stones. But then that “swampy” sound (know what I mean)? came in and I knew it wasn’t. Weird thing to remember, right? How’d you not see the image though? I thought you went on-line in addition to the paper…Les Paul and Mary Ford! 😉 How campy, right? (Some real serious riffs on that one too) ..And how about Miss Patti Page making an appearance? Nice surprise, but her voice definitely put Mary’s to shame. Your sentence? 👏🏻👏🏻 Kudos! 🌟 Well played! Nice! And now I’m craving cheesecake! 😉 I ADORE cheesecake! Have a good one, G. Treat yourself to a piece of PI…A WILDLY SINFUL one! 🍰😉🙋🏻

      • “Swampy” indeed! It was very funny when Terry Gross interviewed John Fogarty on Fresh Air. She specifically asked him about his pronunciations on Proud Mary because she knew he’d grown up in El Cerrito and didn’t sound like that in her studio at all. He just claimed artistic license. Just like I always thought Little Feat was Southern, but not Southern Californian. 😂🙋🏻‍♂️

        • Yea, but I don’t really mean the words, I mean the sound. Like that blue grass tinged country? …”swampy”? That’s the word that keeps coming to mind. Swampy, Bayou…Know what I mean? 🤔🙋🏻

  8. FYI: In honor of World Kidney Day, which is today, the Jumble posted this on Facebook about an hour ago….
The puzzle appeared for WKD 2013, and the wording below was added when the puzzle was shown again on Facebook on March 12th, 2015. Note how the circles are replaced by tiny Kidneys. What a creative touch! As many of you know, Jeff Knurek donated a kidney to his cousin in 2007. So, in celebration of the day, and …Jeff,..Hats off! Here’s 🍷 to the Winners! 🏆🙋🏻

“In celebration of World Kidney Day! From all of us who have given another a chance to live a healthy life by donating a kidney to loved one, friend, stranger, co-worker… You may never know when you may be asked to give a person a chance to live by donating an organ, but if that time comes, take it from me (Jeff), you can do it! It is an amazing experience that has changed my life for the better. I’d do it again of I could” – Jeff Knurek
