Happy Monday, everyone! Our week of Jumble solving duties began with a puzzle that was quite difficult to crack. All of our clue words have been used in the past but two of them had brand new anagrams. SUSHI and FLIGHT have definitely been used in the past and were both scrambled the same exact way we last saw them in gameplay. LEMUR was by far the most difficult one for me to figure out making it my choice for the most difficult anagram of the day. It was also our oldest clue word of the day going all the way back to 5/12/15 to find it.
Today’s cartoon had a tropical vibe and featured five Jumble characters at an oceanside restaurant. The main focus though was on the three characters in the foreground. We see a happy couple that are each enjoying a steaming bowl of soup and an employee of the restaurant is visiting their table. He offers the female half a large conch shell and the big smile on her face indicates that it was a welcomed surprise. The cartoon sentence informs us that the dish that they’re enjoying so much is conch soup and that the hefty price was worth every slurp!
The extra details within the panel gave the cartoon quite an island feel. The dining tables are situated under a grass thatched roof and appear to be either on or very near the sand. The three men in the cartoon are each wearing a collared shirt with short sleeves. The main female character looked absolutely stunning in her sleeveless evening dress with her hair tied back in a simple ponytail. My favorite detail of the piece was Jeff’s signature sailboat that is barely visible on the left side of the panel.
The final solve consisted of a 13-letter anagram that was extremely cryptic and kept the solution well hidden. It took me quite some time to figure this one out with the visual clue of the conch shell offering being the key to getting it done. After SHELL was found, FOR and IT came next leaving OUT for the finish. Have a marvelous Monday, my friends, and I’ll see you right back here tomorrow!

Chuck B, Good Morning…Had time waiting, so I just kept writing! I tried a few different angles…but a Lemur, by any other name..is still a LEMUR! 😂🙋🏻
° She took FLIGHT after they made her the STOOGE of their prank, by not only letting her SHELL OUT FOR IT, but now telling her that the SUSHI meal she had eaten was really the meat of a LEMUR.
° Having made arrangements to SHELL OUT FOR IT way in advance, he walked into the SUSHI restaurant with his pet LEMUR on a leash, and felt like a STOOGE after all the diners took FLIGHT.
° They sat eating in the SUSHI Bar, just waiting for their FLIGHT…
They spoke of today’s Crossword and the need to get it right.
They’d each admitted feeling like a STOOGE sometimes with them…
That trying to find all the words was sometimes a problem.
And as they finished eating, he went to SHELL OUT FOR IT,
But deep in thought he left her and her teeth began to grit…
She there’s quietly thinking, was it best to just come clean?
And tell him she had no idea what the mammal question means?
Cause a blank she left for 20 down, the word alluded her…
She thought and thought but still don’t have an answer for LEMUR…
° Having gone through trouble packing SUSHI food for his LEMUR,
He felt quite like a fool and tried his best to persuade her…
Was he a STOOGE, so out of touch not knowing that the FLIGHT
Would not allow the pet on board…his arguments despite?
And now he stands at check-in, using every bit of wit…
Even telling her he’s willing to again SHELL OUT FOR IT
I don’t like mine as well as I do yours, Angela.. My wife decided to STOOGE around in the kitchen while I took our pet LEMUR down a FLIGHT of stairs to the basement to feed it some SUSHI which she (wife) had just brought home from the market.

Hi all – The GHT gave away FLIGHT and putting the O’s together gave STOOGE. After thinking MURAL, LEMUR took a little longer, and I had to completely back into SUSHI, which was at least possible because I saw the answer right away. I didn’t know that conch soup existed, but I’ve seen the shells. Come to think of it, maybe this scene is in the “Say-Shells”.

By the way, I’d never heard of “Stooge around”. Another new fact learned here.
Steve. The conch soup. Maybe because you didn’t know it by that name. We call it scungilli. Perhaps you know it by that. I make it as soup, fried as fritters, and especially in cold fish salads. There’s restaurants in Florida that are dedicated just to conch, especially on Key West. When I was looking for property I came across so many of them, on Sanibel Island, in the Keys, on Jensen Beach, etc. and that’s when I learned really different ways to cook it. And just like in the cartoon, the proprietors are open to giving you the shells if you ask. I asked! 😉 (I think they all kind of liked the Brooklyn accent)! 😉 And after a few trips down there, I ended up with a ton of them. They’re beautiful for decor..they’re just really pretty to look at. Anyway, I know you said you grew up in an Italian neighborhood, so I’m thinking maybe you just think of it as scungilli. No, I don’t know the name, and I didn’t know you could eat it at all; I just know the shells. But again, we didn’t eat much fish or seafood when I was growing up. 🙋🏻♂️

Angela,you certainly know the way to a mans heart. I had scungilli and octopus at a restaurant in Tarrytown on Sunday. Went to a doo wop shop at a theatre there. Had a great time with my eldest son and daughter in law. Think there were more people from the Bronx than Brooklyn there. I’ve been to Westbury and the one in Staten Island but it was the first time to Tarrytown.
Hey Brooklyn…Ya think? 😉 Well if it’s with scungilli, than yes. But I gotta take a pass on the octopus. No love lost there. And I’ve tried. I just could never make peace with it, cooking or eating. I haven’t been up towards Tarrytown in a while. It’s nice up there. But as for Bronx people in attendance, it’s an easier drive for them. It’s a trip from Brooklyn. Like growing up…Brooklyn never dated the Bronx, remember? I think the only times I’ve ever been up there was to go to the Stadium. I went to a few Doo Wop shows out here, but I was kind of turned off by the crowd. Too many wanna bes if you catch my drift…but I’ve been to a few in Brooklyn, put on by the Churches, and they were good. I’m glad you enjoyed yourself…Hope your night’s going well, Paul. Hi, Steve! I liked how David spelled out hiss in SUSHI & lure in LEMUR so maybe that’s what threw people off track this morning. The cartoon anagram was particularly impressive for a Monday and it did take quite some effort to suss it out.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention the new layout. I received too many “not so nice” emails about giving the final solution away. I think the adjustment will allow people to get help with the clue word answers so they can work on the final solve at their own pace.
I did catch up on the weather (and the Sox) while we were away. They’re already calling for another storm later this week! This was the first “real” storm of the season that required plowing so I’m definitely not complaining.
As for conch, the first time I tasted it was in Key West when my wife (girlfriend at the time) ordered some up. It was ok but a little too rubbery for my liking. The margaritas made it all better though! 😋

Ok…I WADED hoping someone would say that the woman, being so surprised to receive the souvenir looked SHELL-shocked. And it’s a quirky little detail of Jeff’s that the woman is wearing a hoop earring, while the guy being so unSHELL-FISH is wearing two. And by SEAing the couple dressed in identical purple, as lovers sometimes do while dining romantically on vacation, it kind of lends credence to the saying that Love CONCHers all…🐚🙋🏻
Good evening. Got the paper very late and wasn’t going to post but saw that Mike is back. Hope you had a nice vacation with the family. Gonna be brief. Was stumped on Lemur.
