GDYALL – GLADLY

MLUTEB – TUMBLE

CARTOON ANSWER: WHEN THE TRACK COACH’S STOPWATCH WOULDN’T WORK IT WAS – – –

IN   IA   GD   TMB   =   BAD TIMING

Good Morning, Everyone!          ⏱ TIME waits for no HAND! ⏱

🎶 TIME is on my side, yes it is, TIME is on my side, yes it is…Now you all were saying that you want to be free…But you’ll come RUNNIN‘ back (I said you would Baby)…You’ll come RUNNIN‘ back (like I told you so many times before)…You’ll come RUNNIN‘ back to me, yeah…🎶 “Time Is On My Side” – The Rolling Stones   1964 https://tinyurl.com/y74lanhf

🏃🏻⏱The whole idea of Timing is keeping it correct…
So IRONY is sure in play…’cause this becomes suspect,
Like keys on a PIANO, everything must be in tune…
A watch that’s off can only end in runners being ruined.
There is no room for error…a TUMBLE to career,
If minutes, even seconds aren’t perfectly adhered…
Like poets look for meter…GLADLY welcoming the rhyming,
A watch must either be exact or end up with BAD TIMING…⏱🏃🏻

Once again today, our words are all old favorites, all last seen in 2018, and easily solved in no TIME. PIANO, last seen on August 14th, was anagrammed exactly as it is today, while IRONY, making its 8th appearance hasn’t once been repeated in its’ scrambling…It also COMES IN as our most recent entry, having last appeared on September 14th. And without wasting a MINUTE more, let’s get on to our cartoon….

RUNNING right along, today we find ourselves outdoors at a Running Track. We see a male COACH, and his female SECOND in command. Two male RUNNERS, who look to be of college age, are seen speaking with him, Obviously having just completed their run, one’s heard asking how well he did, “how fast did I go“…But the Coach, unable to give him the TIME of day, admits that the battery’s dead on his STOPWATCH. This prompts the Assistant Coach to state..”Thats not good”. Hmm..Looks like they didn’t do too well on their WATCH now, did they? Talk about BAD TIMING! Good one, David…Your TRACK RECORD’s impeccable!

Ok, eye candy…For a FLEETING MOMENT, I thought there weren’t any hidden gems to be found. But as I looked more CLOSEly, they practically fell into my LAP…In the backGROUND, to the left, an athlete can be seen leaping over a hurdle onto a mat. To the right of him, we can see two females running. I say female, because they’re both SPORTing pony tails which are flying in the wind, but on SECOND thought, it’s really neither HAIR nor there. They could be males…An American flag is flying from atop the building off in the DISTANCE. As for our characters, both runners are wearing orange tank tops, with blue shorts and orange shoes. They each have a single bead of sweat dripping from their right cheeks. The blond one at right is wearing a head band, and white banded tube socks. Jeff’s drawn the Stopwatch in the Coach’s hand, with small lines of MOTION, showing that he keeps pressing the TIMER button on top. Nice detail, Jeff. The watch is attached to a black strap, which he’s wearing around his neck. Both Coaches are dressed in light blue polos, but all similarity STOPs there. Coach wears orange shorts and blue shoes, with a cap matching his shirt. Our Assistant is clad in black shorts, with orange shoes. A brown visor is holding her hair back. I found it a little odd that there was no UNIFORMity in their clothing, but then I remembered that unfortunately Jeff doesn’t RUN the show when it comes to coloring the panels. And that’s our LOSS…But the RUNaway hit today is the emblem on our woman’s polo shirt and shorts. If you look real closely, you’ll see that It’s a WINGED FOOT of the Greek God Mercury, which is a symbol used for Athletic Running, but it’s also the Goodyear logo. https://tinyurl.com/hdzakts …I don’t know if there’s a connection, but if anyone has any free TIME, perhaps you might be interested in looking into it. If so, please share it with our TEAM. So, There you have it, Folks, Done! Have a great day, Everyone…and may you all “Put on a Happy PACE“…⏱🏃🏻

  1. Good morning. Nice easy jumble to start the day. At first glance I got the six letter words first then the five letter words. It was only seconds but it happens more often than one would think. The cartoon answer was solved in reasonable time once I put the letters down. Thanks Angela for another hit from beginning to end. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Good Morning, My Elusive Brooklyn Butterfly! You’re in very good company…The 6-letter words today are gifts…GLADLY, beginning with the GD, and the L’s placed together, spelt itself. And in my mind, the M at front and the B at the end, gave that one up without a fight too! Thanks for the Shout Out, it was a fun puzzle to work with…Hope you have a great day, Paul. 🏃🏻🙋🏻

  2. Anagrams were surprisingly easy for a Saturday.Putting the I,P,and T first ,as suggested earlier in the week, with the stat analysis of frequency of first letters, helped the solutions of irony, piano and tumble.Given the letters and the cartoon with the broken watch, ing lead quickly to the final ” bad timing” solution. We were scheduled for a trip up N to see our 4 yr old twin granddaughters,Kate and Jane today, but a health related issue for me yesterday forced us to cancel the trip.Good news is I am feeling better this morning, and I had a real paper to solve the puzzle with. With rain and wind on the way,it will be a quiet sports watching weekend at home for us.

    • Get out! You used the “formula”? Very interesting! (I can never say that without thinking of the old “Laugh In” skits)! Good Morning, Professor. And I agree, the dialogue and the cartoon definitely made this one a RUNaway…I’m sorry to hear that you weren’t feeling well, but encouraged by your saying that you’re doing better today. Please take care of yourself. Yes, we’re on TRACK for the same forecast. Heavy rains with wind tonight into tomorrow, followed by a day of extremely “damaging” winds..The winter so far has definitely given us a RUN for our money, huh? Please relax and stay well today…and I hope you’ll be back in fighting shape soon…🏃🏻🙋🏻

  3. Like Stealth Paul I got the six-letter words before the five-letter words. It’s a blow to my ego when I can’t solve the five-letters out of the starting gate. I think PIANO and IRONY have been troublemakers for me before. Great song choice, Angela, This is the same video you had back on Jan 26, isn’t it? It’s a good video, so it’s worth watching again.

    • A blow to your ego? Mike, the glass is half full! The way I look at it, it should be a feather in your cap! As a rule, the 6-letters are put out there to be more of a challenge…Altho, IMO? The more letters to work with, the easier the solve. How about you tell yourself you’re just really good at this, and call it a day? ‘Nuff said! Good call on the video, Mike, but if you check back, you’ll see that it was a “Bonus” video that day, no lyrics…just a little something extra to shake things up! 😉 The feature was Johnny Cash and “My Grandfathers Clock”. I just threw the Stones in there that day because the reel-to-reel in my head was insistent! 😂😂.TBT, I was hearing Cyndi Lauper trying to squeeze her way in this morning too, but with the Stones giving me RUNNIN’ besides TIME? HANDS down, it was no contest…And yes, it is a very good video…Mick looked much less weather-beaten back then! 😉 Here’s to a good one. Mike. Enjoy! ⏱🏃🏻🙋🏻

  4. Even though the next door neighbor took a TUMBLE and landed in the hospital while helping us move our old grand PIANO, the IRONY of the whole thing is that he said he would GLADLY do it again.

    • 👏🏻👏🏻 Very well PLAYed! You’ve TICKLED me! 😉 Nice neighbor…Growing up, my Grandmother always told us that it was so important to have good neighbors, and to be close with them. She said that in an emergency, you’d find your neighbors first, before you could get to family, and that they’d help you. And it’s so true. And whenever I interact with any of mine, I always think of Her, give Her a wink, and whisper Her that little silent prayer. She would have loved your Piano Man! 😉 Good Morning, Chuck! 🎹🙋🏻

    • I came up with these 2, but I feel they’re a tad redundant…and I should have worked the BAD TIMING in with the PIANO playing. I missed my own set up! 😂. Maybe I’ll give it another shot, if I get a MINUTE…

° Teaching Classical PIANO to the rumble-TUMBLE tough guy of the neighborhood reeked of IRONY…as he GLADLY welcomed the prissiness of it…

° No matter how hard he tried to teach him to say “Flight of the Bumble Bee”, as they practiced it on the PIANO, he couldn’t get him to pronounce the Bumble..it kept coming out TUMBLE Bee..and the IRONY was that it was GLADLY received at the recital…

    • Eureka, Chuck! SECOND TIME around was the charm! I found the KEY to getting it all in…😂

° It was really BAD TIMING when the couple that had GLADLY agreed to buy the PIANO took a hit with the Stock Market TUMBLE…IRONY was, they had said they were selling stock to pay for it! 🙋🏻

  5. Hi all – No problem with the words, but I could only think “Not Timely” for the answer until I wrote down the letters and saw BAD.

I guess the stopwatch wasn’t a Timex, since it took a licking but didn’t keep on ticking. The third word reminded me of the old joke about the small boy in church who thought everyone was singing about a stuffed animal – “Gladly, the Cross-Eyed Bear”.

There’s real IRONY in the puzzle for me today, because as soon as I finish this, I’m going to buy a new BATTERY for my wife’s car.

Safeway Song from the Ceiling this morning – Duran Duran’s “Hungry Like The Wolf”, which, when I thought about it, seemed appropriate for grocery shopping.

    Have a great day, everyone!

Angela, I suspect we’re thinking along the same lines, because I came up with
“He was tickled by and GLADLY relished the IRONY of letting his fingers TUMBLE over the plastic PIANO keys”.

    • LOL! Duran Duran! I wonder if it upped their sales? Good sentence! 👏🏻👏🏻 I like the RELISH…MUSTARD been hard coming up with that one, huh? 😂 And those plastic keys…I think I RESIN the fact that they’re not all ivory anymore…Hope you’re having a great day, G. And be careful with the battery…Don’t get fooled by any of those FREE of CHARGE ones…Good chance they’re all DEAD! 😂🙋🏻

  6. By the way, Gung hay fat choy! SF’s Chinese New Year parade is tonight, broadcast on KTVU TV as it is every year. Ben Fong-Torres hosts, if you happen to know him from Rolling Stone and other places.

    • Yes, I know it’s you! LOL! They’ve been going strong here in Chinatown, NYC, too. Every day and every night is something else. Dragons running amok! Sunday was the NYC Lunar New Year Parade. Tomorrow’s is titled Lunar New Year Celebration….Monday night is ANOTHER one. This one titled Chinese New Year Parade 2019. (Do you detect a pattern here)? There’s been tons of them, and still gaining steam.(No pun intended)! …I’m like..huh? I figure what? One from Column A, Two from Column B? 🙄🙋🏻🐷 🐷🐷

      • They need to Dim Sum of the celebrating! This is beginning to sound like The Seven Fishes, Christmas, Little Christmas, two Thanksgiving dinners, etc. 😂😂🙋🏻‍♂️

  7. Good evening. The IRONY of my master plan is that I’d GLADLY give someone PIANO lessons free, if I can find someone who would give me free lessons in the art of TUMBLE in return. Hoping this time it’s not listed as anonymous. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Brooklyn, I’d be glad to be able to tell you how to get your name back on here. Too bad you didn’t try posting while your daughter-in-law was still there the other day. She might have been able to spot the snag if she followed the post….I wish I could send you a screen shot showing you where /what to look for. I don’t know if you noticed the other day, but even Jeff’s name came up as blank…As for your sentence? You had me ROTFL! Brooklyn, youre such a breath of fresh air! 😘🙋🏻
