Happy Valentine’s Day, Jumble friends! Today’s puzzle showcased a brand new clue word with VIEWED making its way into gameplay. It was also my choice for the most difficult anagram of the day while OOMPH came in at a close second. The anagram used for YIELD has been seen three times in the past which made it no trouble at all. David L. Hoyt was kind enough to leave us a special video message detailing how he chooses the clue words and you can click HERE to take a peek. Today’s cartoon was absolutely stunning and it featured two different scenes. The top half is where the main action and dialogue takes place. We see two love-birds atop an arch and the male bird is seen offering a piece of bagel to his sweetheart. The female bird is staring deep into her lovers eyes and informs us that this is the spot where they first met. Below them is a couple of young lovers standing in the middle of the arch and they’re in a loving embrace.

There were quite a few extra details in the panel that made it extra special on this day of love. The bagel offering had a cute little bow to indicate that it’s a special gift. The arch was the most detailed portion of the piece with the emblem on the left containing a left-side profile drawing of Jumble artist Jeff’s face. On the opposite side was a right-side profile view of David Hoyt! Between the the emblems was a woman doing the Jumble while enjoying a cup of coffee. And finally, the couple kissing are dressed for cold temperatures with the man having a hat on and she’s wearing earmuffs.

The final solve was an anagram consisting of 10-letters. The L and V made LOVE pop out at me leaving LOVEY DOVEY an easy find based upon all of the visual clues. I wish all my readers a very happy Valentine’s Day, and I’ll see you right back here tomorrow! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

    🕊 I think that we’re in NY…and this is Washington Square,
    And since I’m a New Yorker many times have I been here.
    Iconic and a Landmark, the place does hold its OOMPH,
    But I have always VIEWED it with an air of cool aloof…
    The tourists seem to love the park, a VALLEY with its green,
    They flock there by the numbers taking photos to be seen…
    But I’ll YIELD to the pigeons…more a nuisance, than a lovey…
    And all the years don’t matter long as they are LOVEY DOVEY🕊

    So, are we in NYC? Are we at Greenwich Villages’ land-marked Washington Square Arch? (WSA) Is the BAGEL the key to the HOLE location?…Does anybody out there really like pigeons? So many questions…It started driving me a little COO-COO…And while none of our words posed any problem and there was no going out on a LEDGE getting LOVEY DOVEY, the only FEATHER of uncertainty for me was Location Location, Location…But since I did think the Washington Square Arch as soon as I read PIGEON and BAGEL, I’m taking a FLIGHT of fancy and PECKING it as our location today…

    The WSA, https://tinyurl.com/y49gkwvh is white marble, instead of the dark beige that we see. But this is definitely the South Side of the Arch. Where the WSA has crests with crossed swords on each side in the ovals, instead we see who may be Jeff at left and David at right, with the Jumble J as the coat of arms, flanked by olive branches. The Spandrels formed at the top of the Archway, which in real life depict the Roman Goddess Victory, instead show two mirrored images of a gowned woman in glasses, with long flowing hair, doing a Jumble Puzzle in a newspaper, each with a steaming mug of coffee at her side. Too funny, Jeff! Under the Arch we see a couple, he in a black woolen hat, and dressed in blue, and she in jeans, wearing black earmuffs and a pink jacket. They’re LOVEY DOVEY, FLOCKED in an embrace and kissing…with their eyes opened…But the main attraction is our long married PIGEON couple, BILL and COO. **Mr & Mrs Robinson**. PERCHed facing one another, BEAK to BEAK…Bill’s shown WINGing it, draping Coo’s shoulder. He’s a mauve colored bird, she a powder blue. And I’m definitely thinking MUTATION INFATUATION here…C’mon, gimme a break! You find me NY PIGEONS colored like this? I got a Bridge with your name on it….Anyway, he’s wishing her a Happy Valentine’s Day, and professing his adoration, while she’s COOING back, thanking him, as she reminisces about the Top of the Arch being where they found LOVE at First BITE. And Bill’s gift to his fine-FEATHERed mate? A half-eaten Bagel, with a red bow…And we all know that…🎶Nothing says Lovin’ like something from the oven…🎶 and a NY Bagel says it best!   3. On my morning walk I noticed an Inca dove and a squirrel, but both of them were solo and not engaged in amorous activity for Valentine’s Day. 😁 OOMPH and VIEWED were my two hardest words. I suspected that OOMPH was of recent derivation, and sure enough, my Collegiate Dictionary says it first appeared i n 1936.

    ° She texted him to stop feeling the need to YIELD to all the other hikers, and to please put a little more OOMPH into his step, since when she turned and VIEWED him so far behind her in the VALLEY, she felt they’d never win the hike..and began losing that LOVEY DOVEY feeling towards him…

    ° As they approached the VALLEY, he noticed that his LOVEY DOVEY seemed to have lost her OOMPH for the project, and he wondered if he should YIELD to that gnawing feeling that kept telling him he had VIEWED her wrong all along….

    ° The first rule that the LOVEY DOVEY VALLEY commission stressed was that everyone must YIELD to any passing livestock, and it was made known, with rather emphatic OOMPH, that it VIEWED any breech as a serious infraction…

    • Your imagination astounds me, Angela! It’s hard to keep up with you. Anyway, happy Valentine’s Day to you, and Mike, both of whom do their jobs exceptionally well. Here’s my rendition. The overly abundant YIELD from the cherry trees was VIEWED by the VALLEY residents as tremendous OOMPH to their economy.

Another vote for viewed being the toughest solve.Oomph seemed like not a real word,but checking, it indeed was.Lovey was an obvious solve especially on Valentine’s day,An unbelievable ‘spring like’ thaw today w a 45 degree current temp,on the way to a high of 50 or above.But then back into a low in the teens again over night.Where’s that groundhog when you need him.

  8. Hi all – I saw. YIELD instead of EYELID just from having seen it before.
    Then VIEWED took a second look.

    First thought – I’m really glad the birds are on a flat surface and not a telephone wire directly above our couple. That could ruin the mood *very* quickly.
    First guess for the arch – The Arc de Triomphe. Hearing it’s in NYC, my only guess would have been Grant’s Tomb – how romantic!

  9. I found this interesting story in the Wikipedia entry for “Mrs. Robinson”:
    Paul Simon met DiMaggio accidentally in a New York City restaurant, and the two immediately discussed the song. DiMaggio said “What I don’t understand, is why you ask where I’ve gone. I just did a Mr. Coffee commercial, I’m a spokesman for the Bowery Savings Bank and I haven’t gone anywhere!” Simon replied “that I didn’t mean the lines literally, that I thought of him as an American hero and that genuine heroes were in short supply. He accepted the explanation and thanked me. We shook hands and said good night”.

    • Hi Mike. I remember hearing that. I think I saw Simon on a talk show or something, and he related the story. And it is interesting if for no other reason than the fact that DiMaggio may have been the only one at the time who didn’t get it. I think everyone, upon hearing the lyrics knew that Simon was referring to a happier time when life was so much simpler. And that we all let out a collective sigh of nostalgia over the lyrics….DiMaggio, according to legend, for all his “glory” had a bit of an ego. So I guess what he read into it was that maybe people had forgotten him, and it didn’t sit well. And I also think that DiMaggio wasn’t all that familiar with Simon’s music. Those of us who knew…knew he’d never disrespect anyone….He made beautiful music…🎶🙋🏻

  10. Good afternoon. Happy Valentines Day to all. Late start today as my youngest couple slept over last night. The oldest couple had a crisis last night with the water heater leaking and flooding their basement. It just so happens that my young ones were meeting at my house and was going to wait till traffic died down before heading to L.I. #3 called to tell me about #1s problem because he was still at work and couldn’t go. Anyway the three of us loaded the car with a shop vacuum and mops and headed out. He needs a new water heater. His warranty runs out in 40 days so maybe they might catch a break with the price. By the time we got back to my house the kids stayed over. Hey we got a nice meal out of all that work. Today’s jumble was another fairly easy one with Oomph being my choice for hardest word. Another clever finish to the cartoon. The boys have not failed in quite some time. Mike and Angela another fine job. First time hearing your song choice and it could not have been any better. Perfect title on both. Until tomorrow stay well.
