CARTOON ANSWER:  WHEN RAY DAVIES AND HIS BROTHER DAVE FORMED THEIR BAND IN 1964, THEY HAD TO – –

US   KO   KRN   WET   HIT   OK  =   WORK OUT THE KINKS

Good Morning, Everyone!         🎸 SOME KINK  OF WONDERFUL 🎸

🎶 Girl, YOU REALLY GOT ME goin’…You got me so I don’t know what I’m doin’ now…Yeah, you really got me now…You got me so I can’t sleep at night…You really got me…You really got me..YOU REALLY GOT ME…🎶You Really Got Me🎶 -The Kinks 1964 https://tinyurl.com/y9947qgq

🎸The music of the 60’s brought Britain to our shores,
At one point an ABACUS would help us to keep score…
America did BECKON, bringing boys with their hair long,
You’d have to be a HERMIT to not hear some of their songs.
We wondered about talent, would they even have a KERNEL
But soon enough we saw they did…this invasion fraternal…
We opened up our WALLETs, we opened up our hearts,
With not a STOCKY lad amongst them, we took to the lot…
And this group was no different, some good music’s what I think
The Kinks arrived as soon as they could WORK OUT THE KINKS!🎸

Anyone familiar with the music of the 60’s not only knew today’s answer immediately…but got a smile from it too. But I fear anyone not a music aficionado may find yourself stymied. Yet the solution is a very common phrase that cleverly fits today’s cartoon…The KINKS were a British Rock group, active from 1964 to 1996. They reunited last year, and are said to be working on a new album. But let’s KNOT get ahead of ourselves…With all old favorites being used today, we opened with SCUBA…No, of course not Scuba…WATER we KNOT seeing the other “A”? And except for a pause here, the rest of the words we got for a SONG

Britain 1964. Most likely in Mrs. Davies’s garage, we find her two sons, RAY and DAVE, at front, along with Mick Avory on drums, and Pete Quaife on bass guitar, at back, below the Union Jack seen hanging on the wall. Forming a rock band, THE KINKS, https://tinyurl.com/ya2xly6p they realized that there were a lot of decisions to be made, and our dialogue attests to it…Scheduling, practicing, etc…they had to WORK OUT THE KINKS! Good one, David! Music to my ears…

Ok, eye candy. Jeff, showing us that he doesn’t use that pen just to draw a picture….has given us two absolute gems with his cartoons’ DIALOGUE today.  Two of THE KINKS biggest hits were: 🎶YOU REALLY GOT ME🎶 , and 🎶ALL DAY and ALL of the NIGHT🎶KINKy, Jeff…quirky, creative and KINKy! Major Kudos today! 👏🏻👏🏻 You’ve given us both the WORDS and the 🎶MUSIC…So, There you have it Folks, Done! Have a great day, Everyone! And even though a lot of us are seeing snow this morning, I’m hoping we all have a 🎶SUNNY AFTERNOON🎶 ..🎸🙋🏻

  1. Morning, Angela and Everyone –
STOCKY was the only word I got my first run through, and I had to back into HERMIT and KERNEL. I also needed to look up who Ray Davies was, though I do remember the Kinks and a few of their songs.
Steve, I was in a supermarket here yesterday and spotted Pete’s coffee. I smiled because I thought it was only found in your part of the country.

    • Hi Caroline. Good Morning. I’m smiling at your comment to Steve, because I don’t know if you remember my telling him last year that I too saw Peets Coffee in my local Shop Rite. The K-Cups only though, on a display stand. And I tried them. They were ok..but I swear by my Folgers! 😉 He said the taste was probably not the same as the fresh brewed he gets each morning, and of course that must be true. And now that you mention it, I haven’t seen them anymore but then again I don’t really look…I think I will next time I’m there…I forgot to include the data on the words today, I did the write-up so quickly. My Sunday’s schedule’s all thrown out of whack without the Post Star! I’m hopelessly a creature of habit. LOL…But this morning, I went back to sleep, went to Mass, and THEN looked at the Jumble. I feel like a fish out of water! HERMIT has been used 5 times before, lastly in October ’17, and KERNEL, last seen on May 22nd, ’18, makes its 7th appearance today. WALLET and STOCKY we’ve only had once before, June ’16 and June ’17, respectfully. ABACUS, 5th time today, last in October of ’17, and BECKON, 4th time today, last in June ’17. As for today’s solution, did you get it without looking up Ray Davies? 4 of the 11 friends that “Jumble” with me in the early mornings, aren’t into music…and none of them caught the answer. The others, guessed at it blindly, as I did. I really think a lot of people are going to be a little put out today, since the word KINKS isn’t one that easily comes to mind, on its own. Anyway, now that this has gone on as long as my priests’ sermon this morning..🙄…(Sorry)! I’ll shut up! LOL! I hope you didn’t get snowed in…(we got maybe an inch)…and I hope you have a great day! 🎸👏🏻

    • Hi Caroline! Yes, Angela saw Peet’s in New York, and Mike also told me he saw it in New Hampshire. But I suspect that Peet’s on the East Coast is like Dunkin’ or New York bagels on the West; not at all like the real thing.

      • You want to talk accounting for taste? The word Bagel shouldn’t even be spoken outside of NY! 😂🙋🏻

      • Steve, I’ll have to try Peet’s, though I’m not much of a coffee drinker. My husband is, though. A surprising number of places carry it around here, according to Peet’s website, but there aren’t any coffee bars.

  2. No problem w the words after I figured out how to spell hermit and wallet. As soon as I figured out the group was the Kinks rather than my original Dave Clark Five thought, the solution also followed quickly.I had the Sunday Tribune to access the puzzle.Hopefully over hills and dales through the snow back home today.

    • 🎶…As you hit the dusty trail…🎶 Good Morning, Professor! So, you agree…Without coming up with the groups name, no cigar, right? A bit of a stickler. I think…I’m smiling though at your..”Figured out how to spell…” Is there any other way? 😂 The Tribune? A hard copy? I know you favor a newspaper….Safe home, Prof…and drop us a line when you get there…Talk to you later…🎸🙋🏻

  3. Hi Angela –
I don’t remember your comment about Pete’s. I’m not sure if I missed it or forgot.
I would never have gotten the answer without the clue of Ray Davies in the cartoon and help of Wikipedia.
It’s funny, some words I’ve struggled with in the past, like ABACUS, I recognize quickly, but others, like KERNEL and HERMIT, trip me up multiple times.
We didn’t get much more snow than you – maybe three or four inches.
Wishing you and everyone a great day, too.

    • Hi Caroline..It was just a conversation he and I had one day…I don’t think we rePEETed it! 😉 Yes, that’s just it. As I was just telling Chuck, I really think people may be hard pressed to make a connection without “knowing” the KINKS. And I suppose most people are Wikipedia savvy today, but I have an uncle, as an example, who’s older, and I know for a fact that he isn’t. I really am curious, and hopefully others may write in to let us know how they fared. As for recognizing certain words, it’s all in the anagramming. Looking back on some of them, for the same word, you can spot one immediately with one scramble, and then another looks totally like Greek. And as far as I could see, none of today’s were used before. Even if it was only with a one letter difference, they all look new. Bottom line..I guess it was just a perfect Sunday puzzle. ( I can tell..I had to sweat a little to get these words to make sense in my poem)! The little challenge with the words is always welcome, right? Enjoy your day, Caroline! 🎸🙋🏻

  4. Hi Angela, The Post Star still has Friday’s puzzle and the Chicago Tribune still has yesterday’s. Do you have a new online site for the Sunday Jumble?

    • Hi Clay. Good Morning.,.I know…it’s a sad day😢 in Jumbleland! Try this link. When it opens, you’ll only see 2 words…Don’t panic! 😂 As you solve each 2, it gives you the others. You can also tap or click on the cartoon, and it’ll enlarge. Not by much, but it’s better than nothing..I wish I could link you up to my newspaper, but I’m not having too much luck yet…
Let me know if it works for you, ok? 🙋🏻

      https://www.seattletimes.com/entertainment/games/

        • Clay…You have no idea! I did a whole dance back and forth with them the other day! You know, it’s funny…I love to dance…but if you keep intentionally stepping on my toes…well, I “tend” to get Brooklyn! 😉 And I was dancing as fast as I could, if you get my drift….I think the Post Star may be out of the question on weekends, and as for during the week, 3AM is but a memory. It probably won’t be before noonish. It definitely shakes things up, but I think a lot of papers are reevaluating. Anyway, I’m glad the link worked out for you. Try the other also, from my city paper, I’m curious to see it it transposes. And for the record, I even ate some humble pie when I spoke with the “guy”…(never an acquired taste)…And trust me, it still isn’t! 😂😂 The things we do for love, huh? Have a good one, Clay! 🙋🏻

        • Clay…Strangest thing. I opened it on my iPads, both of them, and there was everything but the graphic… But they’re both older models, and they won’t take the latest updates. I’m so overdue for a later model. So I tried it on my phone, and there it opened. Thank you sooo much, the picture’s so clear. I was wondering if the two little dots on the guitar might be words, but from this I can clearly see that they’re just the tone and volume controls. It’s amazing what’s missed without the enlargements, right? Thanks again, it’s much appreciated! Hope your day’s going well! 🎸🙋🏻

      • That one didn’t work for me but thanks.. Wanted me to log in or subscribe. I found something else…if you click on the orlando sentinal link I sent you earlier and you save image by right clicking, let’s say to your desktop. When you open it, it will be bigger but if you scroll with your mouse wheel over the image, it will get even bigger without any blur.

        • Clay…I had a feeling it might not. I tried sending something to Steve the other day, and it wouldn’t work for him either. Just thought I’d give it another shot. My paper prints large, and in color, and it looked great when I tried sending it over..it was full screen. I haven’t tried your link yet, I’m trying to make meatballs while I’m keeping up with this. 😂😂 Good thing I’m ambidextrous! 😂 I’m on an IPad, so no mouse..but I’m sure I can play with it. I’ll let you know. Thanks Clay! 😘🙋🏻

    • Ohhh, Clay and Angela! I tried your Orlando Sentinel link and it worked great! All I did was long-press on the picture, then chose ‘Open in new tab” from the menu, and it showed a big detailed picture that filled my iPad screen from side to side and had to scroll down to see it all. Thanks! What we don’t know is how early it’s posted every morning, but worth a try! I’ll repeat link here:

  5. Wallet took me the longest to solve this morning. Like Caroline I had to look up Ray Davies and like Chuck I first thought of the Dave Clark Five. After those issues were resolved the solution fell into place easily. Out West here we actually have Peet’s Coffe Shops. We have one in our neighborhood that is three doors away from Starbucks. Both stores are incredibly busy. Have a good Sunday everyone.

    • Good Morning, Betty. Yep, that’s the rub! Will our readers be willing and /or able to do the research? 🤔 And that’s 3 so far for the Dave Clark Five!😉 A cousin of mine thought it also. As for Peets, they started out in CA, but I think they’re slowly making their way across the country and out here to NY. My friend said there’s one in the city. Peets is where Steve goes off to every morning for his daily fix, so that’s why Caroline and I were speaking about it. He’s like Norm from Cheers there! 😂 And I’m sure the baristas love him as much as we do! 😘 Hoping you have a great Sunday, Betty! Be well!

        • There’s no accounting for taste, Betty, but I’ll see if there’s a “water-it-down” option in the Peet’s online ordering menu! 😂😂🙋🏻‍♂️

        • I’m loyal to Dunkin’ Donuts….Could be because the Starbucks around here are wayyy full of pretentious wannabes, on both sides of the counter, so maybe I just never hung around long enough to acquire the taste! 😉☕️🙋🏻

  6. Good afternoon. For some reason I wasn’t able go open up the post and had to use the back door to get in. Between phone calls and text messages it took some time to finally solve it today. Nothing really came easy. The words 1-6 were solved in this order, 3,4,5,1,6,2. Could it be that because I’m sitting on my Wallet and a little Stocky that they were the two words I got first. Makes you wonder. I had no idea what the name of the group called themselves but do know their songs. Looking at the letters I was able to get the finale answer which took a little time. Another cute finish for the creators. Angela, great song choice, use of the words in a sentence plus poem and puns. Another solid week of enjoyment by you and Mike. Thanks for all you guys do. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • ROTFL!!!! 😂😂😂 Brooklyn, I had to stop rolling my meatballs, because I’m rolling on the floor! You crack me up! You do know we women look “kindly” on a man with a STOCKY WALLET, right? 😂😂 Oh, wait..Did I read that right? 😂 You are toooo funny! And TBT? I’m not going to try and decipher that numerical masterpiece of yours, because every time you print it this way, I have to get out the manual! You know what numbers do to me! 😉 So, you got the answer WITHOUT looking the guy up? If so, you done good, Brooklyn! And I’m hearing what you’ve said…The guys knew the songs, but not all of them remembered the groups name. Thanks for the Shout Outs, Paul, you’re always a Sweetheart…and again, you’re very welcome. You know it’s my pleasure…Have a good one, Brooklyn, and thanks for the laugh…you made my day! But think about what I said…A STOCKY WALLET’s a great lead in…😘🙋🏻

  7. Hi all – Well, as far as the answer — My process was – Look at picture. Is it The Beatles? No. “When Ray Davies..” WORK OUT THE KINKS! Had to laugh!
As far as the words, ABACUS was the only one that *didn’t* cause me extra looks (and I probably would have tried SCUBA first if it hadn’t already been Jumbled that way. 🎵”Crimson crystal beads to BECKON”🎵. Used the double letter trick for WALLET, saw HERMIT after three tries, STOCKY took me the longest by far, but I saw it as soon as.I wrote the letters down.

Thanks Angela; I caught the “really got me” reference but missed the “day and all of the night” allusion. There was “not a STOCKY lad” among the British Invasion musicians because they were all half-starved by growing up in postwar England (well, that and the British cuisine!)

What really got *me*, was the shape of the guitar. Since we know Jeff’s a musician and the shape is so odd it must be a specific one. It reminded me a bit of Paul McCartney’s small Hofner bass, but the bass is in the back (four strings). I’ll have to do a little research.

    Have a great day, everyone!

I dedicate today’s song to the New York Post Star, the site which has the hi-res Jumble version that allowed us to see the details. Not only can they not figure out how to post it at the regular time, they didn’t even bother to arrange for *any* of their puzzles or games to be posted *at all* on either of the weekend days. I don’t really have a right to complain, but way to treat your subscribers, guys!

🎵”I remember Sunday morning; I would meet him at the park
We’d walk together hand in hand Till it was almost dark
Now I wake up Sunday morning, Walk along the lane to find
Nobody waiting for me, Sunday’s just another day
Sunday will never be the same
(Sunday will never be the same)
    I’ve lost my Sunday song
    He’ll not be back again…
I must be home the sun is gone and I think it’s gonna rain..”🎵

    • Uh…That morning fix I mentioned? What’d’ya have this morning! A double shot of espresso? 😂 Pace yourself, Lad..it’s only what? 10 o’clock out there? You keep this up, you’ll be curtains by noon! As for the Post Star, you and I did speak about it, and there are some circumstances, soooo, maybe we need to calm down a little. It’s not all “black and white”…😉📰! I admit, I’m guilty of judgement too, but it still remains to be seen. Anyway, you’re welcome for the music reference, but for Jeff’s dialogue? Let’s 🎶FACE to Face 🎶 it…Today, the man was 🎶Something Else🎶! And G…Be careful with the research…I don’t want to have to worry about you going off on a Bender…in search of a Fender! 😂! Have a good one, Bud! 🎸🙋🏻

      • I’ll give you an OVATION for that one – you could score at the CASINO or in the GUILD with it -but I promise I won’t go on a bender about a Fender, or kvetch about a Gretsch.

I have a strong suspicion that the guys at the Post Star don’t even know why their early morning posts started failing, and they’ll resume when they get it figured out. I also suspect there are a *lot* of puzzle addicts bugging them as we speak, about the lack of weekend postings. You know us puzzle people are the worst at accepting changes! 😂🙋🏻‍♂️

        • LOL! 😂 Thanks…And I like the kvetch! No, it wasn’t a question of any failing….Let’s just see what happens, but I don’t think things will be as we now know it..🙋🏻

        • Yes, I did check out the link, and I replied to Clay. It’s up there somewhere….It will all hinge on the time. And yes, there’s a lot of mail floating around! As for the guitar, I sent the cartoon over to my brother…and he said, “Kinks”? -and knew it right away. 🎸🙋🏻

          • This is funny – I found an interview in Guitar Player magazine where Dave talks specifically about his early Kinks guitars – and he never mentions it! He talked about his Gibson Flying V, though. 🙋🏻‍♂️

            • LOL…We hit on the same site, I read it too! And I knew what the V was, and knew that definitely wasn’t a V in the cartoon…so that’s why I sent it over to my brother..Should have done that in the first place, instead of wasting time! He didn’t even blink! 😉🙋🏻
