   Reception overwhelming and his popularity increased…

   As cute as a KOALA bear…but mischief was his kink…
   Mancini sat to FIDDLE with some notes and ‘fore you knew,
   He composed a piece just perfect for the foil of Clouseau…
   To him it was a PICNIC, it just came so easily,
   The man with Golden Hands he was…he did it breezily…
   One of the greatest of his time, a lot of people think…
   And hearing just “da dum..” can still make people TICKLED PINK! 📀

A hysterically funny movie about a flawed diamond, a charming jewel thief, and a bumbling inept French Police Detective, played by the late, great Peter Sellers, the movie became an instant hit. Obviously taken with Henry’s amazing composition, we hear his pal and collaborator Blake, telling him how much he loves it…And so did movie goers worldwide. The original Pink Panther is still enjoyed today, both the movie and the song. The theme’s been called the catchiest theme ever written, and I think most of us would be hard pressed not to break out into a smile and start singing along, just hearing those iconic opening notes…🎶da dum, da dum, da dum…🎶, that hot sax, (be still my heart), and the gripping sound of that immediately recognizable triangle. And it’s been said that that triangle, masterfully played by the late great drummer, Francis Cappuccio, “Frankie Capp”, made the song what it is…But getting back to our cartoon…The music caused Blake to be…TICKLED PINK! Good one, David… A definite GEM..even though easily “SOL…VED”!

   Ok, eye candy…As always, Jeff’s done a great job of capturing the images of Henry Mancini and Blake Edwards. The yellow #2 pencil behind Henry’s ear is so endEARing…Dressed in a PINK shirt and jeans, Henry’s hair, parted on the right side is spot on. Blake, dressed in a blue sweater with a teal shirt, has his arms gesturing excitedly. And there’s the GOLD…We see 2 of Henry’s 4 Oscars on a credenza, and considering the year, they have to be what he was awarded for “Moon River” for Best Original Song, and the one for Best Original Score for the movie “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” The Gold Record on the wall? I’m thinking 🎶Moon River🎶 also. But the eye candy? Jeff’s made sure to draw Mancini with that adorable cleft in his chin! Kudos, Jeff. An amazing detail…It TICKLED me PINK! So, There you have it, Folks! Done! I had a really good time doing it this morning, I always loved the movies, and Peter Sellers was an amazing talent. His glances alone as Inspector Clouseau are classic. I could watch the original a million times, know exactly what’s coming when, and still laugh as if seeing it for the first time. And off subject, for some reason, I always liked that Edwards was married to Julie Andrews…IDK why, I just did! They just seemed so perfect together. Hope your days going well, Brooklyn!        PS: So sad about that Fireman, right? I always hated that bridge, still do. Something about it just gives me the creeps. I know it’s a new one now, but it still unnerves me. One time too many, as a child, we got caught behind it opening, and I remember being freaked out seeing it open up into the air the way it did. I guess it never left me. The wake is at Marine Park, and the Mass at Good Shephard. I went there many times over the years with friends who lived in the parish. Just such a tradegy, such a young guy…😢🙋🏻

3. Good morning. Will read everything later as I’m going out the door for an ABI test on blood flow to ankles. No problem with the words again today and drew a blank at first at the cartoon so I put it down and came back to it later. It worked,because in less than a minute the answer popped into my head. Another cute finish. Until tomorrow stay well.

   • Hope everything goes well at your appointment today, Paul. I was lost on the cartoon and had to do some digging to figure it out. I thought I’d keep it short and sweet and enjoy my victory rather than ramble on about something that I don’t know much about. 🙂

4. I wasn’t sure of the spelling of koala,and thought the solution would involve detective or detected,rather than the final tickled pink solution,which came as an afterthought.Being a big OSU Buckeye fan and anti Nick Saban fan,I was pleased with the Clemson win.

   • One more thing,you didn’t comment on I,being a math guy,recalling the poem ” To an Athlete Dying Young” from my HS Eng lit class,no less ,yesterday relative to Elvis dying young.

     • Hey Prof…Good Afternoon. I didn’t know if you were directing the comment to me or to Mike yday, so I didn’t reply. I guess it might have been me, considering the poetry angle, but I wasn’t sure. But I did catch it, and I did find it amazing how it stuck with you all these years. And I too always thought it to be a beautiful piece of poetry…although the theme always haunted me. I remember being taken aback when we studied it, it saddened me. And I also remember my instructor saying that to become a good writer one had to put aside emotion, while at the same time knowing well how to express it…That stuck with me too. (I should also mention that around the same time, i got into a debate with a Math instructor about my lack of and indifference with numberical proficiency….And my saying that I intended to write for a living…Whereby he told me to make sure I earned enough to hire a good accountant)! 😂 And I too was pleased with the Clemson win last night…very much so! 5. Good puzzle this morning. Picnic looked so weird but I was able to figure it out. No problem with the cartoon, but that’s probably because I’m older than you are, Mike, so am familiar with the Pink Panther movies, Blake Edwards and Henry Mancini as well. I so remember seeing the very first Pink Panther movie and thinking it was just hysterical. Peter Sellers was a riot. Have a good Tuesday all.

6. Hi all – Just had to pause for a second when seeing DEFILED, but realized that FIDDLE was the word where the double letter trick *didn’t* work.
   Got everything else and the answer right away. Yup, sometimes it helps to be old enough to recognize these! I knew Henry Mancini, the Pink Panther and Peter Sellers, but didn’t know the Blake Edwards connection, but I knew Angela and Mike would fill us in. I was also hoping Mancini had composed the theme to the movie “Picnic” which would have been a nice tie-in to today’s words, but no.

   “She could FIDDLE with the cat carrier enough to take her KITTY to the PICNIC, but bringing her KOALA was absolutely out of the question.”

   Yet more rain coming, but I’m not complaining.

It was really early when I did it all…(before my “nap”)! 😉 Mancini made beautiful music. If you get a chance, take a close look at the first video clip of the song that I included in my post. As a fellow music aficionado, I know you’ll appreciate it.,, I don’t know if the timing will play the same on your device, but take note of the following on the clip: Around 1:32 in, the trumpet player rear left…he’s like a little child, soooo feeling the music. Then around 2:02, when they show Mancini, catch his unpretentiousness, and that devilish grin. At about 2:18, when the camera zeroes in again on Frankie Capp, look at how much he’s enjoying making magic with that triangle! His facial expressions are priceless! And finally, of course, Mancini’s appreciation and graciousness to his fellow musicians at the end. It’s an amazing piece of musical memorabilia.          • Besides, I didn’t say it was necessary or required, just that it helps — and it sure helps me! 😂

           Yes, I was surprised that Bohemian Rhapsody won, and I loved the picture of Dr. Brian May with Malek. It got me to thinking about the connections between music and math that I know about but don’t really understand, and then I discovered something orders of magnitude more mind blowing, but I don’t have time right now. I’ll share it when I get a chance. 🙋🏻‍♂️

           • I hear you..I’m for all the help I can get. And too often lately it’s remembering half the stuff I’m still learning! 😉 I try not to sweat it. Funny you say that about the connection. One of my brothers is a Math man, and another is a musician by first love, not trade..He got married and the second love forced hm to get a real job! 😂 But they’d spend hours discussing just that…TBT, you know the Math didn’t “interest” me, but I remember they were some interesting conversations… 🤔🙋🏻

     Taking inventory of the things he’d given her…A pair of stuffed KOALA bears, a Hello KITTY key chain, a T-Shirt that read, “I’m Fit as a FIDDLE”, and a videotape copy of the movie “PICNIC”…there was nothing about this relationship to be TICKLED PINK about…

     While she’d usually be TICKLED PINK rummaging through an attic, and she did enjoy to FIDDLE around through vintage trunks, after coming across a bunch of old PICNIC baskets, bags of KITTY litter, and a series of books on KOALA bears she knew this wasn’t the attic for her…

     Having to carry the skittish KITTY, who wasn’t TICKLED PINK about being near the KOALA bear enclosure, she realized this wasn’t the place to FIDDLE around, and returned to the PICNIC area.

7. Just a comment about “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”- I thought George Peppard was great in this movie and later on he played Banacek on a segment of NBC Sunday Night Mystery Movie. I thought that was one of the best detective shows ever on tv. Happy Tuesday to all!

   • Hi Chuck! Banachek was a good show, what I remember of it. I do know that half the innuendo went over my head. I just liked George Peppard.! LOL…Years later he starred in the A-Team. He was great in that…As for Breakfast at Tiffany’s, I have the DVD, and I’ve seen it a gazillion times, and each time I adore Audrey Hepburn more and more. She was sooo good in it. 8. So I spent the day in suspense as I had an early board meeting-just got in and solved the puzzle in a quick tempo. Surprised no one cited “tickling the ivories” even though we all know it is now illegal to harvest ivory. Easy solve on my part even though “no picnic” for some…looking forward to getting up again tomorrow…
