CARTOON ANSWER:   WHETHER OR NOT GLOVES OR MITTENS ARE BETTER WAS THE – – –

UAA   JCE   BDT   STNH   =   SUBJECT AT HAND

Good Morning, Everyone!               ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป   GLOVE ME TENDER... ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป

๐ŸŽถ Don’t know much about HISTORY…Don’t know much BIOLOGY…Don’t know much about a SCIENCE book…Don’t know much about the FRENCH I took…But I do know that I love you, and I know that if you love me, too…What a wonderful world this would be…. “(What A) Wonderful World” – Sam Cooke 1960 https://tinyurl.com/y8cqftmh
PS: There may have been other songs, better songs, but I chose whimsical. Not only did I go with SUBJECT, I went with the thought of the memories that hold true on New Year’s Eve...and the memories in this clip just FIT LIKE A GLOVE!

๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป Standing outside a GUAVA bar, where they just shared some JUICE,
Two friends who discuss everything from men to types of mousse,
Get talking about types of Gloves, and what helps them to choose,
And try to put their finger on which win and which ones lose…
Depending on a BUDGET, there’s Cashmere to stretchy wool,
And Leather is a favorite choice, fur-lined to make them full…
(There’s no way STENCH can fit this theme)..But now that that’s been said,
I can get on with ending this and put it all to bed…
So whether you go shopping for the look or for the brand,
The bottom line…Mittens and Gloves are our SUBJECT AT HAND!

With another day of Sweet Repeat-Repeats to start off our week, we’re also closing out the puzzle year with one for the BOOKS! While we easily SQUEEZED past JUICE, it wasn’t that easy with GUAVA, STENCH caused more than a WHIFF of trouble, and BUDGET ended up COSTing us a second look. Stench NOSED out the group to be our most recent word, at July 14th, while Juice made a PIT stop as our oldest, going back to August, 2014. But they all eventually FIT into place. And now…On to our cartoon…

So, I lied earlier. Well, maybe not lied, more like a case of unrequited GLOVE…I did STRETCH the truth. In order to make our words FIT into a poem, I tried to sell you on a GUAVA bar, when the truth is we’re standing in the middle of TIMES SQUARE, and it really is NEW YEAR’S EVE!  Jeff’s art imitating life! With the BALL atop the One Times Square Building, NYC, we see that we’re in the crowd awaiting the stroke of midnight! How cool is that? Obviously very, since our girls’ breath is definitely visible…But I didn’t lie about the GLOVE conversation..That I COVERED honestly…The SUBJECT of our girls’ discussion is GLOVES vs MITTENS. Our girl at right can be heard telling how her “fingers stay warmer”. And she’s right, since MITTENS do tend to be warmer because your fingers generate more heat when they’re not separated from each other by fabric, as they are with GLOVES. But our girl at left, likes the mobility that GLOVES afford her…And with all this information at HAND…The answer to our question of which is better? It was the SUBJECT AT HAND! Good one, David! Applause! Applause! I give you a HAND!

Ok, eye candy. With the panel shaded in Blue, the 2019 showing atop our building in the background stands out in Red. We see a CAST of characters, all adorned in various winter headgear. Our two main characters are fashionably dressed, the one at left in a Teal Jacket, Scarf, Headband, Boots and GLOVES. Her Black Earmuffs match her pants. Our girl at right, looking better protected against the cold, is clad in a Full-length Purple Puffer Coat, with a matching Knit Hat. Her boots look warmer too, being Black Suede, with Purple Woolen Tops. And of course, there’s her Black MITTENS…๐ŸŽถbringing in the heat!๐ŸŽถ But the eye candy? Looking real closely? The Teal Headband, reads 2019, and below the 2019 on the Building? It reads “JUMBLE“! HA! I gotta HAND it to you, Jeff…Kudos! You’ll try FITTING it in anywhere, won’t you? So, There you have it, Folks! Done! Have a great day, Everyone! And always remember…๐ŸŽถAll you need is GLOVE…all you need is GLOVE…All you need is GLOVE, GLOVE…GLOVE is all you need…๐ŸŽถ And I hope you’re all SMITTEN!

Here’s to the New Year, Everyone! Cento Anni! May you live a hundred years! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

  1. Good morning. Thanks David and Jeff for leaving me on a high note for the end of this year. I don’t know if my mind was more at ease today or I was so determined not to fail that I was able to solve it with a little ease. My choice for hardest word would be Stench. That word took longer than the other three combined to get. Once I wrote down the letters for the cartoon, the last two words were evident. The remaining letters gave the first word. Bring on the first one for the new year. Angela, you had me at the beginning thinking it was Elvis with the cute puns. Then a little more reading and I see Sam Cooke. I played before going any further and loved his voice. The visual was cute besides. Thanks for a great post. Happy New Years to all and stay well.

    • Good Morning, Brooklyn! I’m glad you stuck with it! Kudos! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป And how cute to end the year in our backyard, huh? I thought the puzzle was adorable. Thanks for the Shout Outs, and I’m glad you enjoyed Sam Cooke. He had a beautiful voice. So tonight? When I toast my Father’s Bday, I’ll be doing one for you and yours too…and remembering those good old days…I hope you have a great night, Brooklyn…๐Ÿท๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

      • Thanks Angela. It won’t be like the days of old where my Mother and Father had open house and there would be 50 people of family and friends celebrating the New Year and his birthday but that’s ok because I have the memories. A lot of us would stay up and go to 6am mass. When midnight strikes I’ll toast him as well as your father. We were lucky to have great parents. Take care.

        • Hey Brooklyn. You’ve very welcome…Well that’s what I meant about remembering those good old days…It certainly was fun celebrating that way, right? I remember people in my house that I didn’t even recognize! ๐Ÿ˜‰ But we’re lucky for the memories, right? I remember reading once something like..”God gave us memories so that we could have roses in the winter”. Something like that. Anyway. We’ll always have that toast…Hang in there, Brooklyn…It’s soon a brand New Year! โค๏ธ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

    • Yea, right! LOL! Hell of a lot of antioxidants, though! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Good Morning, Prof! And I agree..a great way to go out…Happy New Yesr…and I hope you enjoy your party tonight…๐Ÿท๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

  2. Hi all – The last word took the longest. It was going to contain one of CH, TH, SH or SC, but I had to start writing down the letters. Happened to start with S, and saw it. Then AT HAND was obvious, and crossing out those letters showed SUBJECT.

I suppose thereโ€™s not quite as much difference between mittens and gloves when you only have three fingers and a thumb. I wonder if Dan Marino had Isotoner produce a special Jumble version for the holidays? I did manage to get frostbite while wearing both glove liners and wool mittens, so that was one of my last attempts at cross-country skiing.

Have a great, safe day and Happy New Year everyone!

    ๐ŸŽตโ€Don’t know much about geography,
    Don’t know much trigonometry
    Don’t know much about algebra,
Don’t know what a slide rule is forโ€๐ŸŽต
Angela, when you pick a Sam Cooke song, YOU SEND ME! Iโ€™ve loved his voice since before I was ONLY SIXTEEN, TWISTINโ€™ THE NIGHT AWAY on New Yearโ€™s Eve.
Special thanks for all the hard work youโ€™ve put in here and with your friends and family over these past couple of weeks, and I hope you get some well deserved rest soon.

    • Dan Marino…You know I mention that to people and so many of them don’t remember. I always liked Isotoners. I have a few. And now, of course they have the Touchscreen ๐Ÿ˜‰ ones! I’m kind of a Glove freak myself, I love them…every color, every texture…although I do favor leather…to match my shoes! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Cross country skiing? No wonder..You need insulation, G…wool won’t do it…Thanks for the Song Shout Out…he’s a great spin when you’re ๐ŸŽถHaving a Party..๐ŸŽถ, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰ And special THANKS to you for your sweet words, you’re a Sweetheartโค๏ธ It has been quite a STRETCH! ๐Ÿ˜‰…And the rest? Your lips to God’s ears! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Have a great day, G! ๐Ÿท๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

  3. Stench took me the longest to solve but all in all it was a good end to the year. Windy & cool here today but nothing like the weather most of you folks experience which definitely call for mittens or gloves. Hope you all have a good New Yearโ€™s Eve.

    • Hi Betty, Good Morning. Stench just looked so odd. David did a great job with the anagram. Funny to think you don’t use/need Gloves…They go so well with shoes! ๐Ÿ˜‰ LOL! Wishing you a Happy, healthy New Year too, Betty! Enjoy your night! ๐Ÿท๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

  4. Sam Cooke’s version of “Wonderful World” reminds me of the movie “Witness” with Harrison Ford. He and Kelly McGillis are in the barn trying to repair his vehicle and that song plays on a radio and they dance to it. Good memories. Hope everyone has a great New Year’s and even better 2019!!

    • Hey Chuck. Good call! That was one of the all time great PHEW! Scenes, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰ And you do know your music. That song was perfect for that part of the movie. It was a good soundtrack. Funny how a song can just transport us, huh? So I owe you one! Here’s to the good memories…and the new ones still to come! Happy New Year to you and yours, Chuck. I hope you have a great night! ๐Ÿท๐Ÿ˜‚
