CARTOON ANSWER:  WHEN CANADA REPLACED ITS FLAG IN 1965 WITH ITS CURRENT FLAG, THEY – – –

FUT   ND   ENE   ROA   WRE   VLE   =   TURNED OVER A NEW LEAF

Good Morning, Everyone!           🇨🇦 LEAF-ING THE OLD ONE BEHIND! 🇨🇦

🎶 O CANADA!…Our home and native land!..True patriot love in all of us command…🎶 “O, Canada” (Music) Calixa Lavallée 1880; (Lyrics-English) Robert Stanley Weir 1908     https://tinyurl.com/y7k86jcp

🇨🇦 Where we celebrate July the FOURTH, and praise our country great,
In Canada, February 15th, the Flag they celebrate…
A WRITER may look to EXPAND and pen a VOLUME here…
And shine like an AURORA while ENCORE the crowds would cheer…
But I’m just looking to get through this poem and what relief!
It’s done and now I feel that I’ve TURNED OVER A NEW LEAF! 🇨🇦

So, TBT…Five of these words today were easy, breezy…But AURORA?…Phew! It definitely had me shaking my head…Where’d David get this one from? Polar lights, Northern lights, Southern lights...NO DELIGHT! For sure, it’s a stumper! And I couldn’t find it in the Archives…Kudos, David! You caused me to get out paper and pen…and it’s been years! The others are all Sweet Repeats, with VOLUME our most recent having being seen on May 5th, and WRITER our oldest having last appeared on June 4th, ’17. And so…TORONTO our cartoon…

Today we’ve traveled North to CANADA and back to February 15th, 1965. We see the new CANADIAN FLAG being hoisted for the first time, and we hear the CANADIAN Citizens singing its praises. Happy to be replacing their old FLAG, and getting rid of the Union Jack that was on it, they’ve TURNED it OVER to this new one, showing a Red Maple LEAF…And with our question asking…What did they do? They TURNED OVER A NEW LEAF! Good one, David! OTTAWA to go!

With the skyline silhouetted in black along the background, the panel opens up to purple. We see two Mounties, dressed in Red Jackets and Black pants.. one hoisting the new FLAG, and the other folding the old. The Union Jack image is shown in Blue and Black and White,  and the Coat of Arms of CANADA is shown in Yellow, Black and White. Two characters are shown at front in silhouette, and four others appear in winter clothing, all looking at the FLAG being raisedAnd from the smiling faces, it’s easy to see that this new FLAG was definitely a welcome reLEAF! So, There you have it, Folks! Done! Have a great day, Everyone! Enjoy, EH? 🇨🇦🙋🏻

  1. Chuck B…For you…🙋🏻

° Wanting to EXPAND their reading audience, they published a FOURTH VOLUME about the AURORA Borealis, but people immediately recognized that it wasn’t an ENCORE performance by its’ original WRITER.

° AURORA, the WRITER, knew that completing the FOURTH step, taking that ENCORE moral inventory, would help EXPAND her chances towards sobriety…and it truly spoke VOLUMEs to her…

    • Thanks, Angela.I don’t know how you do it!! Kudos to you for managing things as well as you do..

      • You’re welcome, Chuck…And thank you so much….But you know what they say..”It’s all in the GIST”! Wishing you a good one! 🇨🇦🙋🏻

  2. Morning, Angela and everyone,
The answer came easily but I found three of the words tough and had to back into AURORA, ENCORE and WRITER, which took the longest. Lots of clever sentences being posted by you, Chuck and others, but I also miss Earl, one of the amigos, as Paul calls him. Regards to all our neighbors to the the north, including my relatives and Steve’s wife.

    • Good Morning, Caroline. I found the answer an immediate solve too…it’s a well known phrase. And David made it fit so cleverly! I loved it. I’m hearing from the Early Birds..(who as usual on Sundays check in in dribs and drabs), that WRITER is taking a second look. AURORA, though? LIT up the wires! 😉 It’s a good one! Thanks for the Shout Out, and I share your sentiment in missing Earl. Thought of you and the glorious Poutine this morning! 😉 My mouth has been watering for hours! Wishing you a great day, Caroline! Enjoy! 🇨🇦🙋🏻

      • Cute, Steve, but I had to check out “eh.” I’m surprised by the number of singers/songwriters I like who come from Canada. Also, Leonard Cohen and Buffy Sainte Marie, among others. Your theory makes sense to me.

  3. Agree on the solution being a quick solve.Volume and other anagrams came quickly, but aurora was another matter, and I finally came up with it and checked it with the letters I needed for the solution, before I was sure it was the right anagram solution.Off shortly, for Naperville, again, and a NY Eve party in Utica,Illinois .

    • Good Morning, Prof. Yea, AURORA came right out of left field. David definitely shook things up a little. Drive safely…you know not everyone out there’s as good a driver as you…Enjoy your day, Chuck! 🇨🇦🙋🏻

  4. Hi all – WRITER took me the longest today. It looked like the double letter trick wasn’t going to work, and it didn’t.
Got AURORA because there was a woman by that name in a department I worked with. There was also an ALEXA, but it was before all the devices became so common, so I never asked if it caused her problems. But the BBC just did a story about that, and even interviewed a woman with a double whammy – her name is ALEXA SEARY!

Oh, Canada! Thanks for hockey, eh? And maple syrup, bacon, Molson, keeping most of the snow up there for yourselves, not being afraid to make your anthem more inclusive (“True patriot love in all of us command”), Lorne Green, John Candy and the SCTV folks, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, etc. etc.! Those long snowbound months must encourage creativity, eh?

    Have a great day, everyone!

  5. No problem with either the words or the cartoon this morning. Nice to have an easy time of it on Sunday which is not always the case. Happy Sunday all.

    • Hey Betty…It was an easy go today..and a really good one too! Hoping you enjoy a Happy Sunday also! 🇨🇦🙋🏻

  6. Good Afternoon. Excuse the lateness. I got sidetracked and realized I hadn’t entered yet. My choice for the hardest word would be Aurora. It took me about five minutes before it clicked in my brain but the cartoon answer was another story. Looking at the answer showed it was an easy one but I drew a blank on three of the words. Another cleaver finish, just not for me. I hope I finish the year on a winning note. Don’t know why it’s been a struggle lately. Great job all around Angela. Thanks for being there everyday. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Hey Brooklyn…No reason to be excused…We’re not punching a clock here! And stop stressing..it’s just a game…I’m sure you just have things on your mind, and understandably, this shouldn’t take any kind of priority! Thanks for the Shout Out, and hang in there…And for the record? You’re always on a winning note in my book! Hope you’re having a good night, Brooklyn…Ciao, Bello! 🇨🇦🙋🏻
