Even charging at the GROCER, you sometimes should be scared.
So many thieves abounding, they PRANCE from con to con,
They work a scheme and then UPROOT…next thing you know they’re gone.
Where before they worked in SHADOW, today they’re bold at will..
And have devised elaborate ploys, while hiding ‘hind a GRILLE…
While our accounts are dwindling…with them they’re quite enlarged,
We need a better way to prove these guys GUILTY AS CHARGED 💳
“G”…Today it appears we have two new words to add to our Jumble list: GROCER and GRILLE. Our other four have all been around, REPEATED throughout the years. And once again, our oldest is also our newest: SHADOW. Dating back to May 7th, 2014, it last appeared on April 29th, 2018. And the one I DUG up the most times, was UPROOT, which SPRUNG UP six times over the past five years. I guess this is a game of NUMBERS too! And the only word this morning that caused the Early Birds any HOLD UP, was GROCER…They just weren’t buying it!
Our cartoon today places us inside a Courtroom. We see a Judge about to sentence a CREDIT CARD THIEF for SWIPING Credit Cards and going on Shopping Sprees. We see his Lawyer, seemingly stunned by the Judges’ verdict…I guess he thought he was going to CASH in on this one. And we hear our culprit claiming his innocence, telling the Judge, “I was framed“! What a CARD, right? And what’s really INTERESTing is that not only is there a framed photo of him with a CARD in his hand, CHARGING at a CHECK out, there’s also photos of other cards with forged signatures…Let’s face it…for this guy, it’s a PHOTO FINISH! So in answer to our question…The thief was…GUILTY AS CHARGED! Good play on words, David! I give you CREDIT!
Ok, eye candy. I’m really surprised that the Lawyer, decked out in a brown SUIT, is looking so shocked. Maybe he should have worked a little harder on his DISCOVERy….The panel itself, as usual, is a MASTERful job, especially with the forged signatures…The top CARD, which shows a CHIP, reads Jeff Knurek, the middle one David Hoyt, but the bottom one I can’t IDENTIFY…except for it beginning with the letter K. Our Judge, seen holding the indictment papers, VIS-A vis the Guilty CHARGE, with a Gavel at her side, looks stylish in her robe, despite having STEAL gray hair. And her desk nicely displays an emblem of the Scales of JUSTICE. The Easel with the photographic EVIDENCE stands beside it. But I think I’ll go with our THIEF. Sporting a short-sleeved powder blue shirt and black pants, his TIE is a black and red striped NUMBER. But if you look real closely, you’ll NOTICE that it’s a CLIP ON! Yep, you can actually see where it’s INSERTED under the COLLAR! So, There you have it, Folks! Done…Have a great day, Everyone! And I’ll leave you with this SENTENCE…If you think CREDIT Crunch is a Cereal, you really need to CHECK yourself…because you’re definitely getting MILKED! BUY, BUY!! 💳🙋🏻

HARDLY anyone wanted to PRANCE in the SHADOW of the tree in front of the local GROCER and bar and GRILLE which the city planned to UPROOT.
GRILLE—alternate spelling of GRILL? To GRILL means to question harshly and GRILLE can mean the fancy stuff on the front of a car and I believe it can mean a drinking place—which is why I used it that way.
I took a while to get the solution—wanted the first word to be CAUGHT.

Prancing in the shadow of a doomed tree just seemed so inappropriate for this time of year but I was tempted to incorporate reindeer—nothing sparked however.

Grille ? instead of grill ? That caused me a problem,as did the solution at first,when I originally thought the first word was caught rather than guilty.But the presence of the l and y lead me to guilty and the ultimate solution.
Hey Professor. You’re not alone in thinking Caught… It’s being bandied about. I’ve become so accustomed to looking at the solution first, that the idioms just pop out at me, so CAUGHT didn’t CATCH my eye. As for GRILLE, it’s not exactly an every day word, but it is common especially relating to a car. I think David threw the “E” one in instead of GRILL, just to keep us on our toes. Struggled with this one this morning. Grille took me the longest to solve. I too got caught up in “caught” but realized it couldn’t be in the answer because it was used by the judge in her statement. All off a sudden charged came to mind and yay it fit. Happy Sunday everyone.

Hi all – Tried UP to get UPROOT (after thinking OUTPOUR) and looked twice to convince myself that GRILLE is a word as well as GRILL. GROCER took me the longest. Thought TRIED AND CONVICTED for the answer, but the letter layout and the mention of credit cards gave it away.

Good afternoon. The words were a breeze except for Grille. I thought it was without the e at the end. Even my very smart daughter-in-law was surprised to see it spelled that way. This threw me all off and I gave up on the cartoon answer. I had the young ones and another married couple sleep over last night from a trip to the city to see the tree. They left after twelve and that prompted me to look for the answer. Angela,your song choice fit but I think they were definitely guilty because they robbed me of 2minutes and 52 seconds of my precious time. You and Earl did a solid on the use of the words. Then you topped it off with a plethora of puns. You guys always do your job in getting me to at least smile. Until tomorrow stay well.
