WYRSEC – SCREWY

CAFROT – FACTOR

CARTOON ANSWER:  HIS PREDICTION THAT HE’D BECOME A QUARTERBACK IN THE NFL HAD – – –

PS   MOO   SE   ACT   =  COME TO PASS

Good Morning, Everyone!            🏈 THE FORWARD PASS 🏈

🎶 We love to watch the kickoff as the game begins, Pretty cheerleaders and las’ minute wins…The screaming crowd and the linebacker’s stare…Scrambling QUARTERBACKS and signals in the air…Big hits are coming, the ‘backs are cutting inside…Everybody turns it up Monday night…Are you ready
Are you ready…Are you ready for some FOOTBALL?…🎶 “All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over (For Monday Night Football)” – Hank Williams, Jr. 1984  https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=718swIfZKtY

🏈 While drafting Football players from College to the Pros,
I’m sure a lot of early thoughts are back where their mind goes…
They called him MOOSE, and the name stuck, a FACTOR was his size,
And SCREWY as it may have seemed, he tried not to surmise.
But dreams come true and now he wears the jersey and the PANTS,
And playing in the NFL, he’ll soon hear all the chants.
‘Cause he’s achieved a lifelong dream that’s put him in a class…
With Quarterbacks who also saw their fame had COME TO PASS! 🏈

Once again today, we’re seeing words that have PASSed through these pages before. Except for MOOSE which last appeared on March 23rd, the others are all from 2017; and all seemed easy enough to TACKLE this morning, SAVE for a slight FUMBLE with FACTOR…But it was easily REVERSEd. So let’s CHECK DOWN with our cartoon…

Finding ourselves at a news conference, today we see MOOSE, the new QUARTERBACK for the NFL “Jumblers“, standing at a podium emblazoned with the team’s name. From the AUDIBLE, we can hear the owner congratulating him, while three sports writers are standing ACROSS THE MIDDLE, listening and capturing the moment. There’s a screen OFFSIDE to the left, showing a CLIP from years ago, when the new draftee was a young kid playing for his schools’ team. He’s heard “predicting” that he’d be a “pro QUARTERBACK” one day, throwing those winning PASSES. And as surprised as MOOSE seems by the FOOTAGE, and the GAP of years that has gone by, he realizes that his dream has COME TO PASS. Good one, David…ROLLOUT the red carpet!

So, eye candy. Except for the GOAL POST shown in the old footage, and the humorous, ubiquitous “J” for Jumblers Football Team, the only real eye catcher is the #12 on the jersey worn by our QUARTERBACK, shown back then as black on a gold jersey, and now, as gold on a black one.  For those of you not familiar with the game, #12 is iconic for a couple of reasons. First, it was the number that Joe Namath wore. Namath transcended the game of football. He was a superstar on and off the field and a hero of the 60s’ counterculture. He was the face of the entire AFL.  Second, during the 1970s, the #12 received the lion’s share of the best air time available, the Super Bowl. Three of the greatest teams of that decade, the Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins employed QUARTERBACKS who wore #12. And for a generation that grew up watching Terry Bradshaw, Roger Staubach and Bob Griese, the “12” emblazoned across a chest was more iconic than a big red “S.” That may explain why todays’ QBs like Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers, who have both taken their teams to Super Bowl wins, don the sacred number. And that may explain why Jeff figured he just had to PITCHure it.  LATERALly! So, in light of all this, my POST POSITION for the eye candy today goes to that #12. So, There you have it Folks, Done! Have a great day, Everyone! Bye, bye...GO LONG! 🏈🙋🏻

  1. The behaviour of the MOOSE was SCREWY and a FACTOR for this was the red plaid PANTS the golfer was wearing.
Not a tough puzzle for Saturday. Sunday will probably be a stunner.
    Enjoy the day everyone..

    • Good Morning, Earl. Sounds like your MOOSE may have a little BULL Blood, huh? 😉 Yes, easy go of it today, but I’m sure we’ll BEAT the ODDS t’row too. Wishing you a great day! 🏈🙋🏻

  2. Angela:
I was wondering what song you would use, as I couldn’t think of any songs about quarterbacks or even football. It turned out you used the old intro to Monday Night Football, which I guess is as good as any.
I also anticipated that the sentence constructors would have a FIELD day, with a SCREWY MOOSE wearing PANTS.

    • Hi Mike…LOL…A SCREWY MOOSE, indeed! And I like how you got FIELD in there for a little Football feel. Good Morning. I write a sentence or two to go with the puzzle’s words every day, and file it away with my post. Today I did so using PANTS as a verb…which as you can imagine, gave it a whole new SPIN…!! Think about it! 😷😳And our song today embodies the “real” Football I remember growing up with…hence, old Hank, Jr. Finding a completely R-rated version video was the problem…😉 Hope you’re having a good one. RIP to your fellow Texan, 🙏🏻 Pres.GHW Bush. 🏈🙋🏻

  3. Anagrams and solution were especially easy on this championship football Saturday, with factor causing me to pause. Now if my OSU Buckeyes take care of NW like they manhandled Michigan last Sat,it will be an even greater day.

    • Good Morning, Professor. Yes, I agree, today’s puzzle didn’t take LONG to COMPLETE. And it was a very clever Football reference. 👏🏻👏🏻Kudos to David. Uh, I suggest you pace yourself today, Prof. We got a LONG wait for the game to come to PASS. I wish it was an afternooner, but we can’t have everything in life. Being favored by a good 2 TD’s…which in light of last week’s Demolition Derby seems very doable, I think ODDS are they have a pretty good chance. Just don’t get yourself worked up into a frenzy before the toss…save some of that energy for the game! Hang in there, Prof…Have a good one! 🏈🙋🏻

      • With your comment on the odds regarding the game,I guess you’ve followed in my footsteps and have become a math person,Way to go.

        • ROTFL! Professor, you may just have won the Internet with that one today!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Me? As a Math Professor? I’d never come close! Although I did date one for a while…but it didn’t WORK OUT…He was just a little too CALCULATING, and seemed to have an ANGLE with everything, and some things just didn’t ADD up. PLUS, my friends weren’t that INTO him, so I had a hard time DIVIDING myself between them. So I just figured why MULTIPLY my PROBLEMS, right? 😂 But as for the ODDS? Strangest thing..Ever since I was a kid, I’d pore over Baseball stats and FIGURE averages, and later on study Football analysis and “play the ODDS”..,but “conventional” Math? “School-sanctioned” Math? I just couldn’t get my head around it! ..Hmm..Maybe if the nuns would have worn helmets? 😂😂 I don’t really HATE Math, Professor, it’s just not up there in my BIG TEN..and I just always had a lot more fun writing about it, then doing it. But for the record, my checkbook balance was never off! 😂 Thanks for the sentiment, Prof, and the laugh…but I’d be more likely to succeed at playing that accordion! ✖️➗➖➕🙋🏻

  4. Good morning. Angela you surpassed everything today from your intro to your eye candy. Thanks for that great video. I never had the pleasure of hearing or seeing it before. Not being a fan of football, you threw a touchdown pass many times over. Today’s jumble was fairly easy and the cartoon answer was the same. At first I had came for the first word then quickly realized it had to be come to complete the other two words. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Good Sun-Shiny Morning, Brooklyn..How’s things on your side of the Bridge? I had to laugh just now, because I actually nodded off as I was hitting the post to publish early this morning, and realized I’d lost 8 minutes, 💤, so that made me double check what I’d written…and I had mistakenly typed CAME at the end of the poem..so I hear you! Came does seem to “fit” the phrase better..easier on the tongue I think…Anyway, Thanks so much for the Shout Outs, you’re a Sweetheart. 😘 As for the video, it wasn’t going to be my first choice. I had one, but I wasn’t crazy about it, and since I was half unconcious, something told me to take another look to see if I could do better…Then, Voila! I came across this one. Old Wolfman Jack! Who knew? No FUMBLE there! I’m really glad you enjoyed it…you know I love PASSING on to you the smile you never fail to give me. TOUCHDOWNS all around! Hope you have a great day, Brooklyn…Enjoy the sun while we have it! 🏈🙋🏻

  5. Another quarterback of the sixties and early seventies who wore #12 was John Brodie of the 49ers. I don’t think John got the recognition that he deserved!

    • Hey, Chuck…Sorry I missed seeing this one. Obviously he didn’t, because I don’t recall knowing him. But I didn’t really get into Football until the late 70’s-early 80’s. So I’m no gauge.. I’m going to make a note to look him up…Tks for the tip! 🏈🙋🏻

    • John Brodie, great guy and player, deserved better. Came so close to the Super Bowl but never got there. We’ll never forget the 9ers losing to a great comeback by the Cowboys and Roger Staubach (#12!) on the SAME DAY in 1972 that the Raiders lost to the Immaculate Reception in Pittsburgh (and another #12).

  6. The MOOSE FACTOR is the SCREWY reason why our dog PANTS as he gazes out the window into the forest.

    • LOL! Ah, Chuck. 👏🏻👏🏻 There it is! The proverbial verb-PANTS! Well done! Mine had a little more to do with pheromones, but I SCENTS we may be on the same TRACK! 😂 Good Afternoon…where’s the morning gone to? I wish there weren’t so many games on today…I’m destined to get close to nothing done..Have a good one, Chuck. 🏈🙋🏻

  7. FACTOR was the one word I had to back into. I got a big kick out of all posters’ use of the words today. Funny, I just saw Joe Namath in a commercial this week, I think for Medicare. Wishing all a great day.

    • Hi Caroline. Good Afternoon. Yes, FACTOR started the day off with that little FUMBLE. And I’m with you on the comments. There’s a lot of whimsy being PASSED around today! Did you really see Joe in a Medicare commercial? OMG! I wonder if it’s on-line anywhere. Would you by any chance remember what channel it was? I’d love to see him. That man is a real “Hot Dog” as we always called him in Brooklyn. But how we loved him. He still looks pretty ok too, for his age..A little weather-beaten maybe, but then I don’t suppose he went at life with the gloves on. The man loved to party! I always thought he was very handsome, and I especially loved the sound of his voice…still do. Check out this link. https://tinyurl.com/ycyvgvze
How times have changed, huh? 😉 Medicare?…😉 TBT, that man had some serious gams! LOL! Wishing you a great day too, Caroline! Enjoy! 🏈🙋🏻

      • Hi Angela – I missed the pantyhose commercial that Steve mentioned and you linked to. Very funny. I just found the commercial by googling Joe Namath medicare commercial. I’m reluctant to post the link to ispot.tv, which I’m not familiar with. The ad is not from the U.S. government.

        • Hi Caroline. Tks for getting back to me. No worries, I’ll just Google it, and thanks for the information. As for Joe in the pantyhose…It was in 1974, and the crazy man shaved his legs. He was really something…I remember hearing stories about how the “men” laughed at him. HA! He laughed all the way to the bank! Look at these other commercials. The man definitely wasn’t afraid to break the glass ceiling! He did it all! The first I think might be Morgan Fairchild, I’m not sure. But it does look like her though, right? The second, of course is Farrah. And I think that commercial might have been banned…something like that. He was just too funny. Strutted around NYC in his fur coats…He was definitely one of a kind. He just took that NY swagger and ran with it! Hope you get a chuckle! 🏈🙋🏻

          • Hey, the Big Game is local and a big deal, and this year, because of the postponement, it’s even at its traditional time instead of kicking off around midnight or something. And yes, Cal never wins recently.

Close but no cigar on Morgan Fairchild – that’s Gunilla Knutsson, Miss Sweden 1961.

            • Yes, I do remember you speaking about the time dispute. But will YOU be watching? Gunilla? I know she did the original “Take it off” commercial, and set the airwaves on fire, but is this her also? I’m gonna look again. 😳🙋🏻

            • Steve…Look at Gunilla’s commercial…I don’t think it’s her with Joe, despite what it says. Look at the eyes, the nose, the shape of her face….and listen to the voices…accent or not, the pitch and tone. Something’s fishy in Denmark…I mean Sweden! 😂😂

        • Hi Mike. You saved me the trouble of looking it up….This guy’s too much. And what’s with the hands? What’s he think..he’s Italian? 😂 Too funny! Thanks, I’m going to PASS it on! 🏈🙋🏻

      • I don’t recall these funny commercials either, Angela, so thanks. But I do remember what a good and handsome quarterback he was.

        • LOL! So tame to what we may see today, but back then people were up in arms! Totally different life…And yes, handsome he MOST certainly was, and that little Southern drawl didn’t hurt any either! 😉 🏈🙋🏻

  8. Hi all – Pretty quick solve today. It was amusing to see SCREWY, but the Y at the end and the SC combo gave it away. PANTS actually took me the longest, strangely enough.

When I saw the situation and that the quarterback was black, I immediately thought of Colin Kaepernick, because he famously wrote a letter in the fourth grade predicting that not only would he become an NFL quarterback, but that it would be with the 49ers.

Love the poem Angela. You missed one thing in your writeup though. Just before the word OFFSIDE, you could also have capitalized SCREEN, but you took a PASS for some reason 😂

Have a great day everyone, and Go Cal! (Big Game at noon PST, postponed from its original date because of the bad air quality then.)

    • Hey, G. First the Business…Lou3 wasn’t around this morning, but when he finally did CLOCK in, he gave an AUDIBLE on PANTS…So, once again, you’re in good company! Great CALL on both Kaepernick and SCREEN. 👏🏻👏🏻 Two Kudos! SCREEN would have been a GOOD CALL, I DROPPED THE BALL on that one. But Kaepernic, save for him being black, which prompted me to give him the fleetingest of thoughts, you may be right on the money. I like it…And I must have been BLIND SIDEd! Only thing I can say, in my DEFENSE, was that I was so BLITZed when I was writing this morning…(See the above comment to Paul), that I guess I was destined to DRAW a blank. And …Thanks for the Shout Out, despite my falling a little FLAT. I’ll say 3 HAIL MARYs as my penance! 😉 Ok, now the pleasure. I thought you weren’t into College Football. Has something changed? And even though you may be going off at a slight edge, aren’t there kids on this Cardinal team that have never lost a game to Cal? That’s fuel for the fire…Anyway, it should prove to be a true West Coast showdown…so I have no horse in the race…but I may “hedge” a little! Good Luck…🍻 Get out your Craft! 🏈🙋🏻

  9. Namath was a good quarterback, but overated – in my opinion. Suzy Kolber might have something to say about this man’s professionalism..

    • Hey Chuck….Were we still talking about his ATHLETIC prowess? 😉 Just breaking ’em…I’m not defending and/or applauding his professionalism, by no means. Especially in the later years. The man made a fool of himself many a time.. Too many a time. I was just commenting on his bravado and swagger and sex appeal back then, when he was playing…when it hadn’t been seen before in sports figures. As for the Kolber incident, I do remember it, well, and I felt he was a total jackass. And for the record, If anything, despite my love of sports, I’d champion a woman first even if she was wrong. So you’ll get no argument from me there. It was an embarrassment to watch…and I almost put him on my “Danny Glover” list after it happened.😉 But it was obvious he was drunk, and if you remember, he did enter a program after it. And he didn’t excuse his behavior either, he took the hit. It’s funny though, because as a woman, I’ve been there, many a time. Again, TOO many a time. And it’s rough. Especially when it comes from a drunk. But at least I’ve never dealt with it on nationwide TV. I don’t know how I might have handled that.. I do have an Italian temper!! 😉 We’re a tough lot, us female sports fans, Chuck. Anyway, we ok? I don’t want to feel like I’ve opened up a Pandora’s box here. I’m still dealing with the fallout from me and Tom!! 😂😂 🙋🏻

  10. Angela:
Here’s another version of the Namath ad with him grousing that he wasn’t getting all the Medicare benefits he was entitled to, like the ad I saw on tv..

    • Hey Chuck, Ok, we’re good. And I feel the same towards you, and everyone else here also. We may not all agree on things, but one has to respect where it’s coming from, and likewise be willing to afford another their opinion. Although “Tom” has said, more often than not, that according to your statement: I 1) Have too many of them, and 2) Have no qualms about keeping them reined in! Oh that crazy Tom, huh? In fact I called him “Danny” today…you know…just to “ruffle his feathers”! 😉😉 Have a good night, Chuck…🦃🙋🏻
