Happy Thursday, everyone! All of today’s anagrams were new while the clue words they produce were recycled favorites. They were all instantly visible to me except for a tiny hesitation on AGENT. I’ll go ahead and choose it as the most difficult anagram of the day and include a poll down below where you can pick your own. The daily poll has become rather popular so I’ll continue to post one so you can see how your choice compares to the rest of the Jumble geniuses out there.

After zipping through all of the words, we find ourselves transported to a museum where we see a couple of Jumble characters looking at vintage jeans. The characters appear to be in their late 20’s or early 30’s and they’re marveling at some of the stylistic changes the iconic brand has undergone since its founder introduced his first pair in 1873. Exactly one month ago Jeff gave us a cartoon featuring a reading of Mr. Strauss’s will to his heirs. In that analysis, I went into detail about the brand and its founder. Have a look here if you’d like a little more information into the beginnings of the Levi’s brand.

Since today’s panel focused on Levi’s jeans, Jeff went to great lengths to differentiate the pairs by adding subtle details to make each one unique. The far left pair has rolled up bottoms and a slim fit. The next two pairs appear to be boot cuts and are very similar except for slight variations in their color. The final pair features bell bottoms which came to the market in 1966. My favorite detail of today’s cartoon were the brand labels on the belt line of the jeans. Each one is slightly different and shows a progression of the brand through the decades!

The anagram for the final solution consisted of 10-letters. JEAN jumped out at me straight away with the remaining letters leaving a bit of a jumbled mess. Reading the cartoon sentence a few more times brought genealogy to mind and I had to Google the word for the correct spelling. The final solution wasn’t a snap, but I was able to button it down after a couple of minutes. Have a terrific Thursday, and I’ll see you tomorrow! 👖

  2. Good morning. Thanks Mike. Enjoyed your post and got a kick out of you and Angela’s comment. Agree on hardest word. In fact I made up my own for Agent and was surprised when I double checked the four words and found mine was wrong. Once I got to the cartoon answer and saw the quotation marks,it was bail out time. I’m in a good state of mind even though I lost at the casino. But,I had a nice steak dinner on them and I’m looking to keep happy thoughts and bow gracefully in defeat. I certainly hope you have you wading boots on. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Thanks, Paul, and sorry for the late reply. The weather was so nice today that I decided to clean out my entire garage. I’m exhausted after taking seven truck loads to the dump, but now I’m ready for the snow to fall.

      I’m glad you had a great time in A/C and the steak dinner sounds so good right about now. My parents left for Foxwoods this morning and they’re going to see Chris Angel and stay overnight. I hope you had a restful day after yesterday’s adventure. 🙂

  3. No amount of scientific JARGON could justify the GLAZE left on the wedding dress or its DROOPY appearance after an experimental cleaning AGENT was used.
    Jargon slowed me down–not sure why. A J in a word is fairly unusual and JARGON should have been obvious. Solution? A groaner of a pun but cleverly done.

  4. All 4 anagrams came quickly,as did the first word,jean, of the solution,but the rest of the solution was a bit problematic.

  5. I’m with Earl. Jargon took me the most time to solve and it didn’t seem like it should have been that difficult since we don’t see so many “J” words. Knew jeans would be in the answer so the rest followed fairly easily. Happy Thursday everyone.

    • Agree jean or jeans was a given in the final solution.As an aside,growing up I wanted a pair if Levi’s ,but the closest I got to a pair of those ,was a pair of Lee Rider’s Jeans.

    • Hi, Betty! JARGON is winning the poll right now so you weren’t alone. The last time we saw it was on 10/14/17 and it was jumbled as GRANJO. It’s one of those words that you see right away or takes a bit of work. I hope you’re having a wonderful afternoon! 🙂

  6. Hi all – Got DROOPY using the double-letter and ‘Y at the end’ tricks. AGENT also took me the longest until I remembered to try A at the beginning. I thought there might be a play on EVOLUTION, but the word JEANS was so obviously avoided that the answer appeared.

    Not much else to note, except that I can’t remember the last time I heard them called ‘Dungarees’.

  7. Jargon was the stretch word for me. Like my favorite pair I faded on that one. The rest came relatively easy but for forgetting a final e in the solution. Once found, I traced the origin of today’s puzzle.

          • Isn’t that, or wasn’t that a house brand? Of Target, perhaps? (Definitely not “Macy’s Mezzanine”! 😂) I have to pay more attention at the thrift store; I’ve seen them there. 🙋🏻‍♂️

            I vaguely recall reading the expression “Shoot, you’re faded.” Could have been in Mad Magazine.

            • I don’t think Target existed back then, did it? ..And I was young, so I know I wasn’t shopping at Macy’s, because we didn’t have one near us..I think they had a logo with a flag, maybe? But the phrase I don’t remember. Something else to look up! 👖🙋🏻

              • Walmart, not Target: “Faded Glory” was a brand for women, men, and children including shirts, shoes, belts. But has been replaced by “time n tru” for women, “george” for men, and “wonder nation” for kids in 2018“

                And this:

                The expression “Shoot, you’re faded” goes back to at least 100 years. Henry Wallace Phillips used it his book “Mr. Scraggs” in 1903.
                More than one airplane in World War II was named “Shoot, You’re Faded.”

    Today the kids wear DROOPY jeans, but never way back when,
    When dungarees “per se” were worn, we didn’t do that then.
    The JARGON’s always changing…especially with kids…
    Some AGENT may be explaining when clients hit the skids…
    A word that may have meant one thing, today may be another
    And sometimes I think people say whatever they may druther…
    I guess it doesn’t matter, especially not to me…

    For the past week or so, the panels have all been totally shaded in one COLOR, FADING as it went back. It was so nice today, to see the cartoon colored as we always knew it to be. And I’m hoping that the SHADING was just a FAD, and that now we’re back to normal…All that BRUSH-stroked color OVER ALL of the panel just didn’t SEAM to FIT…

    Real quick one today….In BUTTenheim, Germany, (I kid you not)!, in the tiny house where Levi Strauss was born, there now stands the LEVI STRAUSS JEANS MUSEUM. So today, I’m pretty sure we’re in Germany…I looked up Jeans, and in German, it translates to…Jeans. No help there…So I’m just going to call the eye candy a WASH today…and DEN IM outta here…Have a great day, Everyone! …👖🙋🏻

      I just went outside and you can definitely smell the smoke in the air. The fire’s not close to Betty or me; Sacramento is at least a 2 hour drive from here, and it’s North of that. It’s only about 10 miles from Chico, where the Sierra Nevada brewery is located. 🙋🏻‍♂️

(Whoever mixes that music deserves a reward). It’s a pretty song…I made the mistake before of watching World News Tonight..The shooting and the fire, both. And that way David Muir has of wrenching your heart out,..It’s like the gods are angry at California. It’s heartbreaking…Ruined whatever was left of the day…I’m so sorry for you all..💔🙋🏻

    • Hi, Reynaldo, and great question! The format never changes and it’s always (2) 5-letter anagrams and (2) 6-letter anagrams. Mr. Hoyt will occasionally do some longer words on the Jumble Facebook page and in his apps. He also tweets out words on Twitter from time to time. Have a wonderful day! 😎
