TIWYT = WITTY

TCEHF = FETCH

SWOYLL = SLOWLY

MRAHEM = HAMMER

CARTOON ANSWER:

WHEN ALL THE CLOCKS WERE FOUND TO BE DEFECTIVE, IT WAS A – – –

ITFETSOWAME = WASTE OF TIME

Happy Monday, Jumble friends! We were greeted with a very easy puzzle this morning that took no time at all to solve. Mr. Hoyt gave us a new clue word in hammer but I was able to nail it upon first glance. Since all of the clue words were instantly visible, I’ll attach a poll and let everyone vote for the most difficult anagram of the day. The other three clue words were all used in 2017 with FETCH being the oldest of the quartet (1/11/17). My final observation of the anagrams is that they were presented to us in reverse alphabetical order.

Today’s cartoon was the highlight of the game and it contained a mathematical twist! Although the setting wasn’t exactly clear, it looks like we’re most likely seeing the storage area of a clock production facility. The panel shows us three Jumble characters standing in front of a large garbage can full of discarded clocks. A man in safety glasses and gloves is tossing them into the bin one at a time as the other two characters try to come to grips with the mistake. The female is disheartened that they can’t be recycled while the male does some quick match to try and figure out what went wrong.

There are a total of 16 clocks in the drawing with six of them displaying a time of 26:00. Jumble artist, Jeff Knurek, decided to make today’s cartoon a little more interesting by giving us a math problem to go along with it. In the gentlemans dialogue, he explains that the time is off because each clock is adding 5 minutes to the hour. Over the course of a day, that would equal 2 extra hours. Since the time is displayed in a 24-hour format, the 2 extra hours would make all of the clocks read 26:00. Absolutely brilliant!!!

The layout for the final solution was an 11-letter anagram. The visual clue of the clocks coupled with the leading nature of the sentence made the solution a blind solve. The addition of Jeff’s math quiz had me spending a few more minutes on the puzzle than I should have, but it definitely wasn’t a waste of time. Have a merry Monday, and I’ll see you tomorrow!

  1. Good Morning, Mike..HOUR you today? Congrats on your win…And I wish you a great Monday! ⏱🙋🏻

  2. Good morning. Funny thing happened on the way to get the daily jumble. It wasn’t even delivered in the junk mail. I had to use the back door. Thanks Mike for your coverage. I don’t see how you got a math problem just from the clocks having 65 minutes in an hour. Maybe I’m missing something. Agree that today’s jumble was easy but then again it usually is for a Monday. Once I wrote the letters down the cartoon answer was simple to get. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Hi, Paul! Since the time was displayed in a 24-hour format, those who aren’t familiar with military time would have to do some quick math to figure it out. It was obvious to me but may have been lost on others.

      Absolutely downpouring here. I hope you’re having a brighter Monday than I am. 🙂

    • Good evening. Just able to get back and review everybody. With his dumb Witty remarks and poor use of his Hammer by Slowly doing half the work of everyone else,it forced me to Fetch a replacement for his shoddy work. The reason they use military time so as not to confuse Day and night hours by leaving out am or pm. I:00am is 0100 hrs,10:00 am is 1000hrs,12:00 am is 1200 hrs. 1:00pm is 1300 hrs and so forth where 11:00 pm is 2300 hrs and 12:00 midnight is 2400 hrs. Impossible to mistake am or pm this way. Angela,absolutely a perfect song choice. Great use of word choice poem and puns. Earl,nice job on the word sentence. Until tomorrow stay well.

      • Hey Brooklyn…How’re you doing? The TIME thing? If anyone would know, it’d be an old Navy man, right? I don’t mean OLD Navy man..you know, I mean old Navy man! 😉 But what Mike and I were referring to it being “Math” was because the clocks read 26:00., not 24:00. Did you notice that? The results of that 65 minutes creating the additional 120 minutes a day! It’s a brilliant little twist to the puzzle….Anyway, as I said, I even enjoyed it! LOL…I’m loving your sentence here, except maybe for the “dumb witty”…😂😂 And thanks so much for the Shout Outs..It was an easy, breezy one today…Hope you’re having a good night, Brooklyn! ⏱🙋🏻

      • Paul, I thought you Navy guys kept time in “bells”! TIMING the WATCHES? 😂🙋🏻‍♂️

      • Good point Angela, thanks for the criticism. Steve,3years in the Navy and never aboard a navy ship. Just planes. But I did sail on the Queen Mary and the Queen Elizabeth. I always got sick on ships/boats,that’s why I joined to become an airman rather then a seaman. Luckily I was stationed on land and not sea.

        • Thank you for telling me that Paul; that’s very interesting!
          My brother loved aviation, so he took the direct path and joined the Air Force, but was never a pilot (eyesight not good enough).

        • Brooklyn…I wasn’t criticizing…I apologize if it came across that way…There was nothing to criticize, Bud…Please don’t think I was. Hope your night’s going well..🙋🏻

  3. 🎶TIME is on my side, yes it is…TIME is on my side, yes it is…Now you all were saying that you want to be free..But you’ll come runnin’ back (I said you would Baby)…You’ll come runnin’ back (like I told you so many times before)…You’ll come runnin’ back to me. Yeah…TIME, TIME, TIME, is on my side, yes it is, I said…TIME, TIME, TIME… is on my side, yes it is…🎶 “Time Is On My Side” -The Rolling Stones 1964

    ⏱I found this puzzle very cute, and cleverness bar none
    The little bit of Math involved? I even found that fun!
    I looked at it real SLOWLY, to see what I could FETCH,
    And saw the WITTY cartoon might be one of our Jeffs best!
    Most often when there’s Math involved in anything I do,
    It’s like a HAMMER to the head…not something I pursue…
    But this was such a morning treat, and so easy to rhyme,
    The words, the cartoon, all of it…so not a WASTE OF TIME! ⏱

    The words took no TIME at all, so I’m not going to WASTE any more of it..I’m cutting right to the chase…The 26-HOUR CLOCK may just be one of Jeff’s best whimsical entries to DATE! It had me laughing in the DIALS! And the dialogue? The TRASH CAN? A WASTE Can? I’m ALL IN!
    But there’s no WASTE OF TIME here today! Great pun, David! You’re the Man of the HOUR! Well, the HALF HOUR anyway…Jeff’s pretty UP TO THE MINUTE here TWO!

    Ok, eye candy… Tough to beat that 26:00 HOUR CLOCK, the result of the extra 5 minutes on each HOUR. Ingenious! Is it the rather odd-looking Hairdo on our woman? ?.Hmm…That may be a whole other TOPic of conversation..Is it the Blue gloves (to match the Protective Shades) on the HANDS of our TIME MANAGEMENT Guy? Is it the looks of dismay on the FACES of his two assistants? I’m having a tough TIME deciding today…So I think I’ll just go with the CLOCK being tossed into the can…I mean, let’s FACE it, Folks…How often do we really get to see that TIME FLIES? So, There you gave it, Folks! Done! Have a great DAY, Everyone! And remember..TIME waits for no man…So TIME must be a woman! ⏱🙋🏻

  4. When the apprentice was sent to FETCH a HAMMER, he moved so SLOWLY that the carpenter made a scathing but WITTY remark.
    Mike, you amaze me with your attention to detail. I never bothered to check out what was wrong with the clocks. Love that math problem!
    Angela–great song choice, even though I am not a huge fan of the Stones.
    Poem was pointedly pertinent and put me at ease.
    I am surprised that you did not mention the footwear of the two in the cartoon. Bizarre to me. Is there a Jumble reason for them?
    Later, break is over. 👋👊🏽🌨

    • Good Morning, Earl. Love the sentence…Especially the “scathing”. Not a widely used word. Kudos! 👏🏻 Thanks for the Shout Outs, and most notably, the alliterative addition! Always appreciated! 😉 Stones are ok with me…Actually I had a lot of TIME PIECES running through my head this morning…And this was almost my SECOND choice..but it just seemed to be playing the loudest…And almost ended up TICKING me off!😉 I guess we can say it…BEAT THE CLOCK!! 😂😂 And yes, I did take note of the shoes. Good eye. But if you’ve noticed, Jeff’s been drawing all his shoes to look like this lately…A new STEP perhaps? TYING something different? 😂 For the SOLE of me, I don’t really know! Have a good one, Earl. Hopefully your shift will go well, and you’ll get some TIME to yourself! Talk to you later! .⏱🙋🏻

  5. Easy puzzle this morning. As always, I enjoy your analysis, Mike. We’re having our Indian Summer high 60’s & 70’s in the Bay Area though do wish you could send some of your rain our way – perhaps in November or December. Happy Monday Everyone!

    • Hi Betty! I thought maybe you went on a trip to the Sierra foothills to see some fall foliage color! 😂

    • Thank so much, Betty, and I’m glad that you enjoyed it. The rain cleared up a couple of hours ago and it’s quite warm (50ish). Can’t ask for more than that at the end of October! 🙂

  6. Wasn’t sure how hammer was spelled,but otherwise today’s puzzle went so quickly,there was no ” waste of time” necessary to solve it.

  7. Hi all – Yes, this puzzle took no TIME at all to solve.
    My poll vote – “None of the above”. 😉

    Great song choice Angela. 🎵”You’re searching for good TIMES, but just wait and see”🎵 And referencing back a couple of days, 🎵”cause I got the REEL love…”🎵. That and your game show reference took me right back to the 60’s.
    If you don’t know what I’m talking about, I’ll have my BUD COLLYER to explain it. 😂

    Your noticing the incorrect times causes me to drag out a favorite old saying again – “The 13th strike of a clock is not only wrong in and of itself, but also casts grave doubt on the 12 that preceded it.”

    Have a great day, everyone.

    We now interrupt our regularly scheduled post for, no, not “A quick word from Energizer”, but for a final baseball note:
    So drop the puck, eh? 😂 Well Mike, you certainly received the antidote to the Carpenters’ 🎵”Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down.”🎵 I hope the glow of this dream season provides a bit of extra warmth throughout the winter.
    The best TEAM won, and that game was like watching a python slowly, inexorably squeeze the life out of its dinner. And I of course had a bit of schadenfreude after having had to watch in person the Dodgers celebrate on the Coliseum field in 1988 (which I’m totally over, of course! 😂)
    Speaking of which, the Series moment that will stick with me is seeing Dennis Eckersley graciously, enthusiastically and joyously come back to throw out the first pitch to help the ailing Kirk Gibson relive his greatest moment (and Eck’s worst). A display of the highest true sportsmanship that’s so often lacking these days.

    Maybe those California boys just couldn’t face having to fly East 3 hours and lose 3 hours sleep to end up in a damp cold ballpark. Surf‘s up, dude!

    • Hey, G..Tks for the Shout Out, but..
      BUD, COLLYER DOGS off! 😂 TIME HEELS all wounds! 😂
      …And you’re not CLOCKing me with the “If you don’t know”, are you?

      But without a DOG in the race, my Series moment? Seeing Sandy Koufax, a man we here in Brooklyn still revere… at 82 years of age, lead the standing ovation for the 24-year old Rookie, Walker Buehler. Respect, offered with such a gracious demeanor. There’s only ONE Sandy Koufax, and I’d pay good money, just to be able to spend any TIME in his presence…They don’t make ’em like that anymore…
      Have a good one, G…And please…Take some TIME to UNWIND! We still have to get through the Football, Basketball and Hockey Seasons! 😉🙋🏻

      • I figured you knew the game show reference, but I needed it for the pun. (Hmmm… now where have I heard THAT before? 😉😂 ‘G’ lessons learned.)

        I’m SO glad you mentioned that shot of Sandy Koufax! I noted it and then forgot about it, but I thought “Wow, if you’re a rookie pitcher walking off the field and you look up and see Sandy Koufax standing and applauding you, you must figure you did all right!!”
        There was also a funny note that if it had gone to Game 7, “it would be Walker Buehler’s day ON”. 😂

        • ROTFL! …Well done, Grasshopper! I’ve taught you well! 😂 But maybe a disclaimer next TIME? I have an image to uphold! 😂😂😂 Mention it? It made me cry! I’m such a wuss…
          Cute, the Day On…Jenkins? ⚾️🙋🏻

    • Dang, I forgot the “none of the above” option!!! There’s always tomorrow! 😂😂😂
      It was a bit of a drag to have to watch them celebrate every major victory on the road, but I guess it’s the win that counts. The snow hasn’t even started falling yet and I’m I’m already looking forward to spring training down in Fort Myers! 🔥⚾️🔥
