CARTOON ANSWER:  WHEN HE REFUSED TO WEAR HIS HEARING AIDS, HIS WIFE – – –

VAL  RUM   AEE  FIGH   =  GAVE HIM (AN) EARFUL

Good Morning, Everyone!          ๐Ÿ‘‚๐Ÿป๐Ÿ—ฃCAN YOU HEAR ME NOW? ๐Ÿ—ฃ๐Ÿ‘‚๐Ÿป

๐ŸŽถ Here you are again…Tellin’ me you’re sorry, Baby, tellin’ me you wanna come on back home…Where you belong. There you go again, lyin’ and alibiin’..Singin’ that same old worn out song…Here it comes now...I CAN’T HEAR YOU NO MORE...I’ve HEARD it all before. You ain’t a reachin’ me no how…No way, no time until dooms day...I CAN’T HEAR YOU NO MORE, I CAN’T HEAR YOU NO MORE...๐ŸŽถ I Can’t Hear You” – Betty Everett  1964

๐Ÿ—ฃ๐Ÿ‘‚๐ŸปAs much as I feel for this guy…his hearing now impaired,
You have to sympathize with her, her feelings not be spared.
As VOCAL as she probably gets, I’ll bet it brings a FRIGHT
To call and get no answer… it really isn’t right.
What AVENUE can she turn to, what options can she use?
If asking him just does no good, if he will still refuse?
(I bet they can’t play RUMMY, it’d lead her to the Gin,
It’s useless, him not hearing? There’s no doubt who’d always win)
Bottom line, let’s hope Tom got on board, and things went back to cheerful…
Until that time she had no choice, she just GAVE HIM AN EARFUL…๐Ÿ‘‚๐Ÿป๐Ÿ—ฃ

With all of today’s words being old favorites, the oldest one, FRIGHT, last seen way back on June 5th, 2016, appears to be the only one that put a little tic of fear into the Early Bird Boys this morning. I haven’t HEARD anything else about any of the others, but then again, it’s still really EARly…And with that being SAID…it’s on to our solution…

Relaxing comfortably on his couch, in his living room, today we meet TOM. As he sits with his tablet in his lap, we see his wife, whom I’ll call GERI, raising her voice and  SOUNDing off at him, in obvious frustration. From our question and our dialogue, we HEAR that Tom, who should be wEARing HEARING AIDS, refuses to…And Geri, who’s forced to talk to the wall, isn’t happy about it. So she…GAVE HIM AN EARFUL! How’s that SOUND, Folks? Good one, David…AURAL good one!

Ok, eye candy. The first thing I couldn’t help but notice, is that our couple has a rather distinctive look. For those of us who are regulEAR daily Jumblers, we’ve come to  recognize Jeff’s usual suspects, and these two aren’t. Instead, they seem to be patterned after a couple that may be “real life”. And considEARing that it’s late OctobEAR, the way thEAR dressed leads me to believe that it’s not a couple who lives nEAR Jeff, in the Midwest. Tom’s floral-patterned shirt and cargo shorts, and Geri’s sleeveless top seem better suited to a warmEAR climate. With the panel shaded in pink, the couch, the lamp, and the table are colored mauve. Hanging on the wall, is a mountain scene with water, framed in Bamboo. Tom’s two HEARING AIDS are shown lying on the table. But the eye candy HEAR today? LOBE and behold, it’s the Pineapple Jeff’s placed on Tom’s Tablet. APPLEsolutely endEARing! So, ThEAR you have it, Folks..Done! Have a great day, Everyone! And I’ll leave you with this little bit of selective HEARING humor: Married couple in the midst of a heated argument: WIFE: “You never LISTEN to me. You only HEAR what you want to HEAR“. HUSBAND: “Sure, I’ll have a beer”…BA-BOOM! Somebody’s gonna get HERTZ! ๐Ÿ‘‚๐Ÿป๐Ÿ—ฃ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

  1. There was an awful FRIGHT on Madison AVENUE when the dog walker gave a VOCAL warning in a strange RUMMY manner.
Had to pause at RUMMY–seemed a strange word to have here. The solution came fairly easily when I wrote down EAR and FUL. Clever puzzle and play on words.
Never heard of your song or your singer Angela—lyrics certainly complement the cartoon.
Not sure I agree with your poem’s point of view, but then that might be the result of knowing certain people who just don’t listen—hearing aids or not. And there are those, gratefully rare, who don’t bother waiting for you to finish your thoughts but interrupt with their own ideas. So perhaps there is a reason why Tom has deliberately removed his hearing aids? Just saying.
Batten down the hatches all of you who live along the Atlantic Coast—looks like a stormy weekend.
    Stay safe this Saturday.

    • Good Morning, Earl. Batten down is right! It started pouring here around 2, and it hasn’t let up yet. Forget the winds, they terrify me! Why I don’t just close the blinds to the back door, I’ll never know! ๐Ÿ˜‰ A glutton for punishment! ….I laughed at today’s cartoon because as soon as I read what she was saying, I said to myself..”Wow..is she giving him an earful”! And as luck would have…๐Ÿ˜‚ Voila! A great play on words today! But let me tell you about my slant on the puzzle. My first poetic endeavor? I was with him…I figured,”Hey, it’s his choice”. But then, I thought about these 2 men I know, that do just what Tom does when they’re home wth their wives. And I’ve heard them joke about how it bugs the heck out of them. And even though I don’t know the women, it makes me wonder how they must feel…IDK..I just went the other way. I guess something like this depends on the couple involved. So, on this one, I’m pleading the 5th, and staying neutral….๐Ÿ˜‰ I re-wrote the poem, and chalked it up to Vive la diffรฉrence! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Loving your sentence…has your dog walker imbibed a bit? Loving the imagery…And as for today’s song choice, Tks…. I reached way back to something I remembered from my Father’s vault. Not very mainstream, but the cartoon triggered the memory…Stay safe…hopefully indoors? And have a great day, Earl.๐Ÿ‘‚๐Ÿป๐Ÿ—ฃ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

  2. Good morning. Angela, perfect song choice. Never heard the song or the singer so before I posted I listened to her song. It fits the cartoon but not in my treasure trove of recording. Even though it’s raining and gloomy outside, you and Earl are our everyday rays of sunshine. Thank you for that. I had absolutely no problem with the words, but for unknown reasons I gave up rather quickly on the cartoon answer. It certainly was not hard but maybe watching the Dodgers and Red Sox’s had something to do with it. I drifted in and out of sleep but did catch the last inning. Could there be a miracle there besides on 34th street.? Just in case nobody picked up on the hint yesterday. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Good Morning, Brooklyn. You mean the double header they played last night? Crazy game…And you had me wondering what you meant with the Miracle. That was back on Thursday…You know what they say…, time flies when you’re enjoying yourself! ๐Ÿ˜‚ And it was a good reference too, that I thought I replied to, but I looked back and I didn’t. Sorry about that, Bud. Thanks so much for the Shout Out…and thank you…but you’re the ray of Sunshine…You know you make me smile every morning…Actually, some mornings, you make me fall out of my chair! ๐Ÿ˜˜ Agreed, the solution wasn’t a killer, considering how many letters were involved…it was cute and clever, and a pretty common phrase. The song’s not anything I’d write home about either, but as you said, it did fit. I just rememberrd it from my Father’s collection, and looked it up…Rain’s slowed down here a little…it’s the winds that I’m worried about…Stay safe…be careful if you go out there…the leaves have made the roads slippery as hell..We just came in, and it’s a zoo out there…Have a good one, Brooklyn..๐Ÿ‘‚๐Ÿป๐Ÿ—ฃ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

  3. Fright was a little ” frightful” but solvable. With all the letters ,I was looking for a d for a past tense solution. But then the solution came into ‘ear’ shot so to speak with almost a blind solve. With a WIU football game this afternoon, our 4 yr old granddaughters,Kate and Jane will have to get by without us this morning.

    • Hi Prof. Good Morning…Yea, playing Iowa, right? A crop of good matchup’s today…Great day for it here in NYC, we’re in the midst of a Nor’easter…a perfect day for staying indoors..under the covers and watching sports.. FRIGHT’s the only word I’ve heard anything about so far today, as I suspected…But nothing to get nuts over.. Everyone’s saying that they found the whole puzzle pretty easy today. I like your “EAR” shot remark! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Good one! Good luck with the game, Chuck, and hope you have a great day…๐Ÿ—ฃ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

  4. Hi all – Got the words – the GHT combo was a giveaway for FRIGHT. Then I thought Iโ€™d have to write the letters, but surprised myself by figuring it out first. Started with HIM, and then saw the rest.

This guy must have gone to a number of great concerts in his younger days (Guilty!) ๐Ÿ˜‚ I would do it all again in a second.
I guess GERI will just have to cue up Willy Nelsonโ€™s โ€œHello, Wallsโ€.

Never heard that song Angela, but it got me thinking how Iโ€™d like to see a database of your record collection. It must be enormous!
I also stumped myself on a music question โ€” with regards to this guy, I wanted to quote a โ€œWhoโ€ lyric, but I canโ€™t remember where itโ€™s from, and a search didnโ€™t turn it up โ€” the one that goes ๐ŸŽตโ€™โ€™Ohh, and my ears are still ringingโ€๐ŸŽต

Sorry to hear about the weather back East, but hope you all find a way to enjoy the day!

    • Hey, G. My collection now, but I didn’t compile it. Well maybe half of it. Or less. It was all left to me., I guess I started seriously contributing around ’72-’75. I have some lists that we started cataloging, but yea, it’s huge. One thing I do do…(๐ŸŽถthat you do so well…)๐ŸŽถ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ whenever my nieces and nephews borrow? Most times like a slew of them? I make them fill out an index card..I swear! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I know it sounds anal, but too often I’d find things missing…and even though I believed them that they didn’t remember if they had them or not, or returned them? I did! ๐Ÿ˜‚ I’m sure people at their houses, parties, etc, may walked away with a few here and there over the years…Nature of the beast, I guess. Not that I’d ever do it, but you know how it is. They don’t ask that much anymore now, though…Times have changed as far as recorded music and its availability, right? Anyway, whatever…And, you know I was going for a Tom and Jerry, right? I always liked that cartoon…
G,…By any chance, is this the song you’re thinking of? ๐ŸŽถSuccess Story๐ŸŽถ? Have a good one, Bud! ๐Ÿ—ฃ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

๐ŸŽถMonday morning, I just got home…Six and the birds are singing. I need a drink and my clothes are wet…Oh, and my ears are still ringing…๐ŸŽถ

      • Thatโ€™s it!! Thank you so much! What a great song; donโ€™t know why it slipped through my mind, except that it was overshadowed by โ€œSlip Kidโ€ and โ€œSqueezeboxโ€. A comment on YouTube says โ€œMost underrated Who song ever!โ€ And so funny that it seems to be the only one written by John Entwhistle. Such great lines:
๐ŸŽตโ€The big break better happen soon
        ‘Cause I’m pushing twenty-one…
I may go far if I smash my guitar….
Back in the studio to make our latest number one
        Take two-hundred-and-seventy-six
You know, this used to be funโ€๐ŸŽต

Youโ€™re preaching to the choir about albums.
๐ŸŽตโ€I see you sent my letters back
And my LP records and theyโ€™re all scratchedโ€๐ŸŽต
My records are all in pretty pristine condition. Last time I made an exception was loaning my Beatles CDโ€™s to a diehard fan at work โ€” and she broke one of the jewel cases! ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

        • You’re very welcome. But, think, Steve… Didn’t we in fact, do this song here once, months ago? I think so…And yea, the lines are great. All so simple, yet so chock full of truth, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰ I like the ๐ŸŽถgiving up the day job to become a heartthrob๐ŸŽถ๐Ÿ˜‰ Truer words never spoken, ๐Ÿ˜‚ huh?
Yea, that’s the bad part. People not respecting your property the right way. Do you remember me saying that my Father never let my Mother touch any of the vinyl unless she put gloves on? ๐Ÿ˜‚ Too funny, but true. He felt there was perfume on her skin, and she’d compromise the quality of his records! He was a b— breaker! She’d get so pissed at him! Me? I was just a kid..l wasn’t wearing any perfume yet! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ But, yep, when I get older?…He called me on it too! But I was so ingrained with “respecting the vinyl” that I never minded..๐Ÿ˜‰ Sweet memories. And I’m with you on the pristine…I still have them all in their original jackets, etc. And even tho I don’t don the gloves today, (for some reason, now that they’re both gone? ..that memory hurts)… I do handle them all with a micro-fiber cloth…And I really have no idea how I may have reacted to having my jewel case broken…Perish the thought! ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

      • PS – โ€œDo do that voodoo..โ€ Speak to Dr. John the Nighttripper, or Screaming Jay Hawkins! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

        • LOL..Good, but I was going for Sinatra (BMH)..๐ŸŽถYou Do Something To Me๐ŸŽถ …๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

          • I knew the song, just trippinโ€™ on the Voodoo with Halloween coming up. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

            • Ah, very good then! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป FLEW right over my head…I wasn’t sure WITCH way you were going! ๐Ÿ˜‰๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป
