Happy Monday, everyone! It’s back to the grind we go for another week of Jumble fun. All of today’s clue words were recycled favorites and only two of the four had new anagrams. FLEET was the only one that wasn’t immediately visible so it’s my pick for the most difficult anagram of the day. Even though it was jumbled the same way we last saw it on 8/27/16, the combination of double E’s and David having it spell out LEFT was enough to throw me off track. Using the “double letter trick” of placing the same letters together got me out of the jam and allowed me to move on to the cartoon.

The setting for today’s panel brings us inside the home of our Jumble characters where we see a mother and son having a chat. Mom is in the background working on her computer and she pauses to ask her son a question. She wants to know if her son learned about even numbers and he replies with a one word answer of yes. Concise and to the point! He seems more interested in the food on his plate than talking with his mom.

On the plate in front of him we see three carrot sticks and he’s chomping on the fourth. Also on the table is a bowl of round objects that appear to be grapes. I counted ten grapes total which gave us two even numbers of 10 and 4.

The final solution was an anagram consisting of 7-letters. With the fruit and veggies total fresh in my mind the answer immediately jumped out at me. I thought Jeff did an outstanding job of dangling the solution right in front of our faces which made this puzzle a clever way start to the week. Have a marvelous Monday and I’ll see you tomorrow!

    Without intending to REBUKE him, the EXOTIC-looking woman had to point out that the FLEET-footed athletes’ choice of a PRUNE-colored track suit just wasn’t a “runaway” hit…

    Dave’s given us a gift with this, and Jeff’s, the gem du jour?
    We see a bowl, a dish and count ’em…YES!! It’s our TEN-FOUR!

  3. Good morning. I’ll get back to everyone after posting this news flash from “Stars and Stripes”. The Fleet was forced to Rebuke the fact that the Exotic Prune was the cure for their constipation. Until later.

  4. I don’t know how anyone can count the so called veggies on table. I do believe your enlarged jumble picture shows up better than our Chicago Tribune. However the 10-4 answer came easy knowing ham operators radio codes.

    • Good morning, Bill! It’s easy to zoom in on my iPad and see the fine details. There’s no way I’d be able to identify the food and count the pieces just by looking at my newspaper copy. Great to hear from you!

  5. The admiral had to REBUKE the FLEET commander in the EXOTIC port and PRUNE his support staff drastically.
    No time to congratulate all of you for your brilliant sentences and posts, hopefully later.
    One thought, Mike– REBUKE slowed me down. Kept seeing BUNKER!

    • Hey Earl…I just always remembered the silly song because everyone at that time was going around saying “🔟-4️⃣ Buddy”! It was a little mania there for a while.   6. Good morning. Great job Mike. Here you are thinking of a healthy snack “carrot sticks” and I see cho chip cookies. You see grapes and I see milk duds. I missed the obvious clue with the numbers on each plate. Well done. Angela,you had me laughing with your great song choice. It had me thinking of the movie. Nice use of the words. Just a tad ifferent than mine. Nice to see yours too Earl. You always have me trying to figure how you are going to use them. Today’s words made you think a little longer than usual. Fleet was seen right away probably because of being a Navy man. My choice for hardest word would be Rebuke. It took a couple minutes longer to get. The cartoon answer was clever and came quick to mind. Until tomorrow stay well.

      • Warm enough here that you had to take off a jacket if you were wearing a long sleeve shirt. No rain still. We started to play around 12:30. Quit at 4:00.

        • Hey Paul…I didn’t think it got out of the 50s today, but now I just saw on my phone that it’s 62. Rained here all day..maybe that’s why it felt colder…the dampness. I was out 3 different times. Last came in at 5:30. Never took the leather jacket off..and the heat was running each time I came in…But I’m on a slab, and I think that makes my house feel colder. Glad you were able to get a game in, and I hope your night’s off to a good start! 🙋🏻

  7. Lots of great sentences with the clue words today.
    This was another one that I got but didn’t “get.” I can’t recall hearing or knowing the meaning of “ten-four.”
    Letters also spell fortune.

    • Yes, indeed. A 10-9 on this Jumble. Maybe the recent bad 10-13 (i.e., hurricanes) has affected the Jumble. But I don’t know of any place now where CB language is heard. If there is, it must be a pretty remote twenty.

      • They were always saying “What’s your 10-20” on one of the old TV Cop shows. Could even have been “Highway Patrol” that was mentioned here.

    • “Dum, dum, dum, da-da-da dum!” Chuck, Broderick Crawford! Highway Patrol! 😂😂😂😂 The re-runs of this were essential late-night viewing in my college dorm! Not as well known as Dragnet of course, but among the early cop shows. Glad at least *one* other person remembers it! Mr. Crawford had his shining moment in “All The King’s Men”, but this role was much more typical.

  9. Hi all – REBUKE was the hardest for me. In fact, I had to solve it twice, when I came back to it to write the letters and had already forgotten it. I’d like to blame it on Monday, but nah, just me. I had an idea that numbers would be in the answer, but didn’t see what they were getting at until I wrote the letters down.

    Mike, the mother’s spreadsheet had an even number of rows (8) and an even number of total cells (24).

    Angela, I figured you might try to get up a CONVOY here. Glad to join.

    Paul, I was about to say that I was glad that nobody’s sentence used FLEET in the sense of a drugstore product (especially with PRUNEs already on the table), but yours came close enough! 😂😂

  10. 🔟-4️⃣ A worksheet numbered 1 to 8, her heading ABC,
    The total cells of 24…as even as can be.
    Perhaps this prompted her to ask of Junior while at school…
    If Even numbers were addressed and did he learn the rules?
    Of course he don’t REBUKE her, despite being mid-chew,
    (Of what was drawn as Carrots, but the color guy miscued..)
    It’s obvious he doesn’t look at what Jeff sends to him,
    Those carrots are dark brown like PRUNEs…and looking might grim!
    At least he got the grapes correct…that tiny FLEET of ten,
    How great it’d be for true color…We wait the day…but when?
    EXOTIC colors can look nice, but baby carrots Brown?
    That kid would not be smiling, it would definitely be a frown.
    But anyway this cartoon, and the “Yes” is clever sure…
    Bad color don’t dull what Jeff wrought…it’s still a true TEN-FOUR! 🔟-4️⃣

    The eye candy? Liked the little workstation, presumably off the Kitchen…Very trendy. Like the worksheet, EVEN more…And of course the aforementioned TEN-FOUR served up as a snack..That’s a really cute NUMBER..But I’m finding it ODD that Junior’s wearing his cap indoors…Especially at the table.     • Nice poem and post, Angela! I’m glad you were able to retrieve or recreate it.
      So are you saying the colorist ESCHEWED using the correct shades? In fact, all the discussion prompted me to dig out the Chronicle for a second look and, lo and behold, the things he’s eating are indeed orange and the round things are something like deep purple. So I guess they’re not always wrong, just almost always different. 😂🙋🏻‍♂️

      • Hey, G. Thank you..Yes, he indeed ESCHEWED it! 👏🏻👏🏻 Good one….No, no retrieval. I re-wrote as well as I could remember. But 2 Lous said the original dealt more with the fruit and vegetable combined. Only I can’t remember how I phrased it…They actually had a riff on what’s “off the table”…And by then, Lou 3 put his two cents in. (Thank God, #4 wasn’t here). 😉 I do have to admit, they didn’t do too bad, either…Maybe a solid Five degrees…But by then, I SQUASHed the whole thing and left)! If I wasn’t so tired, I might have edited it..and went for the hat trick, but I did pick up some good material…(Now I have to hope they don’t remember if I try squeezing some of it in one night! 🙄 Fingers crossed)! ..The colors. Was there a discussion? 😂 But ORANGE you glad you looked? It could be purple grapes instead of green. And Saturday, you said the Chron had a Green jersey, remember? Could it be they’ve upped their game? I looked in 3-4 different places, and I’m seeing it all the same, brown and green, but now I’m curious..Why are the colors different? 🤔🙋🏻
