Good Morning, Everyone!  🎤POI MEETS GIRL…AND THE REST IS DISC..ORY🎤

🎶 Say that you’ll BE THE ONE...Drowning in my heart, to be…Drowning in your arms, (take me)…3 summers heat, tangled up In sheets (take me)…Breathing as you where..Lying on The floor. Take Me…Take Me🎶 “Be the One” – Poi Dog Pondering 1992

Dear Jeff:
🎤🎸October 6th and shall I guess where you’ll be at nightfall?
Poi Dog’s on tour and tonight will perform at Thalia Hall…
Or maybe you went last night? Either way I’m sure you’re there,
To hear your band especially play the song you love to hear.
So, RATIO and CLANG? I think I’ll just let them go by…
I doubt I could make sense of them…Let’s stay with old town Chi…
I’m looking for a PONCHO, but no one seems to be clad,
This just might be the lamest HANDLE on a poem I’ve ever had!
I’m Pondering band members but…Ah, Jeff, to guess each man?
Just wish me luck…I hope I get it “A-CHORD-ING” TO PLAN 🎸🎤

Our words today, all old favorites, caused four Early Morning Jumblers to have a tic or two with PONCHO. Having last been seen exactly four weeks ago, on September 8th, it was a bit of a poser that day too. But our other three words were easily deciphered…

Today’s cartoon brings us to what I believe to be Thalia Hall in Chicago. We see our noted Graphic Artist,  Jeff Knurek and his lovely wife, Kathy, standing at the PIT at a POI DOG PONDERING concert. Booked into Thalia Hall for October 5th and 6th, PDP has been on tour, and is just releasing their latest album, 🎶Remnants of Summer🎶 For those of you who frequent our blog, you probably know that PDP is one on Jeff’s favorite BANDS, and today we see that Kathy hasn’t curbed that enthusiasm!. In fact, she shares in it! AcCHORDing to her dialogue, we see that my featured song choice this morning, 🎶Be The One🎶, is “their song”….and I might have guessed that it was 🎶Puppy Love🎶…PDP is comprised of a lot of musicians, but today we’re seeing only seven here, or perhaps just six, and for the RECORD, I’m going to try to identify them for us. If I get them right, VIN..YL be good for me…if I’m wrong, then the ball’s in Jeff’s court. Pro, me…CON..CERTainly he’ll help me out…Ok, left to right…Robert Cornelius, Charlotte Wortham, (or Carla Prather)? Frank Orrall, Susan Voetz, Paul Martens, and behind him, Ted Cho. The woman farthest right, praising the “perfect SET LIST” and the GREAT HARMONIES”, wearing the Headphones, and the Red POI T- Shirt? I couldn’t get a BEAT on ..Abra? Moore or less? No, I doubt it’s her.😉..She’s probably just the SOUND Technician…But it is this woman’s SOUND bite that’s giving us our solution today…The BAND’S stage PERFORMANCE was going...”A-CHORD-ING” (TO) PLAN! Now how good does that SOUND, Folks? This one’s a HIT! Great pun, David! You’ve COMPOSED a real winner today…

Ok, eye candy… There’s Frank’s two-toned Black and Red Guitar. And if you look very closely, at the top of the Headstock, above the Tuning Pegs, there’s the tiniest disc, reading POI.  It’s an amazing detail. Kudos Jeff. There’s Susan’s Violin, and Paul’s Horn…Two hand-held  mics, and the one on a stand. There’s the six lines of wiring on the floor, coming from the amplifier at the right of the stage, but oddly I can’t TRACK it’s CONNECTION to anything…But the eye candy…if I had to BUTTON it DOWN? It has to be Jeff’s Black shirt…It’s got sleeves, it’s got buttons…it’s got a collar..it’s got a white squiggly pattern! Can it TEE? Yes, it can! And I’ll be DOGgoned! So, There you have it, Folks! Done! Have a great day, Everyone….And if you’re lucky enough to be at Thalia Hall tonight? EnPOI the show! 🎸🎤🙋🏻

  1. The CLANG of the train and a flapping PONCHO kept the engineer from working out a RATIO that would give him a HANDLE on speed and wind resistance.
Saturday’s Puzzles often are the toughest of the week, excluding Sunday’s six letter specials and today was no exception. No problem with any of the scrambled words but the solution was elusive and after struggling and wanting to get out of the house, I came here to get the answer.
Thanks Angela for the solution and for all the background on the cartoon. I know I’ve been on this site for some time, but all the details about Jeff’s favourite band and who they are remain a mystery to me. I guess I still have a lot of learning to do.
    Have a good weekend everyone.

    • Good Mornig, Earl. ..Albeit a late one. I fell asleep…The Band’s a bit of a mystery to me also. I know of it quite well, but not “it” itself so well. (Does that even make sense)? 😂 There’s just a slew of information on-line, and I read up on it. As for the people on stage, I just took a shot.at identifying them…Remains to be seen if I’m on the right TRACK! Thanks so much for the Shout Outs, and Kudos 👏🏻👏🏻 on making a coherent sentence from today’s words. Not an easy task, they were definitely an eclectic mix today. I just mentioned to Paul that I’m now getting a boatload of messages telling me that the solution eluded a good number of people…For some reason, the phrase immediately came to mind for me when I read the dialogue. I’m realizing that I really do have an insane number of trivial catch phrases in my head…I think it must be from all the punning I do with my friends, the Luigi Board. I’m just a regular IDIOM Savant! 😂 Glad I could help, and hope you’re enjoying your day. Ciao, Bello! 🎤🙋🏻

  2. Thanks for all the info and details, Angela. I really need to listen to this band Jeff likes so much.
To get the answer, I guessed that the first word would begin with a and end with ing and that the c and h went together. This helped me see chord and finally plan.
    Wishing all a wonderful weekend.

    • Good Morning, Caroline. Sorry, I just noticed that I’m answering these posts all out of order.I think I’m still half asleep. You’re very welcome for the information, but as I mentioned to Earl, it’s all out there . There’s a good number of articles about the Band, and I just followed along. Your means to the solve is brilliant. Major Kudos! 👏🏻👏🏻 Using the “A” and then “ING” according to the leading nature of the question. Just like on Wheel of Fortune, with the “What are you doing” category…😉 It truly is a great pun this morning. Hope your day is going well. Take care! 🎤🎸🙋🏻

        • Hey, Ray. Good catch. I never even noticed that….I should make a RECORD of it for next time! Have a good one! 🎤🙋🏻

  3. Good morning. It’s still continuing. What’s someone’s junk is another mans treasure. I see you posted at 4:08am and I finally find it in the junk mail sat 9:38am. My sentiments are like Earl today. It’s all POI to me! Thank you Angela for your in depth analysis I think I was sitting on my head today. I found the words very hard. I refused to give up and stayed the course. It took me between two and four attempts to get each word. Poncho would be my choice for hardest one. Now the cartoon answer really stopped me cold. I looked forward to seeing the answer to rescue me from a rough beginning to what started out as a pleasant morning “You guessed my finish,I hope”. Until tomorrow, stay well.

    • Good Morning, Brooklyn. I’m so sorry you’re still having trouble. Do you get emails during the day of other people’s comments? I wish I knew how to resolve your issue. But something like that happens to me sometimes too…I get an email, and then I see that it had been sent hours earlier? I have no idea why it happens..Anyway…I fell asleep, to awaken to a bunch of texts saying exactly what you are…The answer stopped people in their TRACKS…So, I’m glad I could help…And the ..”It’s all POI to me ” line! You got me LOL, once again. Ok, way behind schedule..I gotta get movin’. I’m going to read a little, and try to see why you’re still having the problem…Have a good one, Bud..It looks like we get no sun today…🎤🙋🏻..And Paul thanks so much for the Shout Out…😘

      • Surprisingly for a math guy, ratio had me stumped but after getting the other 3 words ratio came into view.Being a former heart patient,I kept seeing aorta rather than ratio.I too fitted in the a and ing before coming up with chord and plan.We did get our paper before leaving for a twin watch today in Dixon, and a birthday party for their cousin,Alice,in Naperville tomorrow.Go Indians go and beat those pesky Astros.

        • Good Morning, Professor. Pesky? Hmm. That’s not exactly the word I’d choose in describing them..but since this is a family blog…I’ll go along. 😷 They’re tough, that’s for sure. Kudos to you too, for the solve! 👏🏻👏🏻. As I just told Caroline, it’s a brilliant strategy. And since I’ve posted this morning, I’ve had 2 people tell me that RATIO slowed them down also. But you’re right…what’s your excuse?? 😂…Sorry to hear of your heart issue, though. I trust by your use of the word “former”, that the troubles are all behind you. Twin Watch? Too funny!! But you mention Dixon and Naperville…Prof, you know I have no clue! Are these also in Illinois, as you are? You are in Illinois, right? (I hope I’m not getting that wrong too)! Well, wherever they are, I’ve said it before…You Sir, don’t allow any grass to grow under your feet, as they say…You’re one travelln’ man! Enjoy your day with the Littles, and Good Luck with those €#%! $! Astros onight! 🍻 🙋🏻

  4. Handle took me the longest to solve. Cartoon answer took a bit longer than usual but I was able to figure it out. Saw plan first and thought it would end in ing so achord fell into place. Busy weekend in San Francisco. It’s Fleet Week so the Blue Angels will be flying around today and tomorrow, there’s a Bluegrass Festival in Golden Gate Park and a parade in North Beach to celebrate what we used to call Columbus Day but I think the p c police now refer to as Indigenous People’s Day – whatever they call it, people will be celebrating. Hope you all have a Happy Saturday.

    • Good Morning, Betty. HANDLE’s up on the board! And good catch with plan..Fleet Week! Be still my heart! 😉 Busy weekend, indeed…It all sounds wonderful. I hope you get a chance to get out there and take part. Has the name really been changed? SMH..It’s getting to the point where we don’t know which end is up anymore, right? 😷 Mum’s the word! 😂 Hoping you have a great day, Betty, and get to enjoy the festivities! Take care…🎤🎸🙋🏻

    • Betty, we’ve heard and seen the Blue Angels practicing overhead here both Saturday and Sunday.

      • Steve, there’s a good article in this morning’s Chronicle about the year (1983) the Blue Angels first came to town and truly terrorized the city since we weren’t told in advance that they would be strafing the city. I was one of those people who called 911 & City Hall because I thought we were under attack. I went out on my back porch and could literally see the pilot in the cockpit. It was scary. I’ve had ambivalent feelings about the air show ever since. I will never be comfortable with them flying over such a densely populated area and then there was the year when one of the jocks flew under the Golden Gate Bridge – a real no no by Navy protocols. I personally prefer the parade of tall ships. Have a good weekend.

        • That’s very interesting Betty, thanks! I saw the story but haven’t had a chance to read it yet. I feel for the people who have dogs and cats that freak out; it can get really loud.

  5. Yes. We are going to the Poi Dog Pondering show tonight! 23 years ago, Frank Orrall, the band’s leader, dedicated the song, “Be The One”, “to Jeff and Kathy on their special evening.” That’s when I asked Kathy “to be the one” and marry me. They are such an amazing group of people and incredible band. If I had to suggest one album to listen to completely to get a sense of their music, it would be “Pomegranate”. The one person you misidentified, Angie, was Max Crawford. He’s on trumpet, not Paul. Paul does sax, flute, clarinet… Max gave me one of the nicest compliments I’ve ever gotten. His father was a huge Jumble fan. When I put him in the Jumble, last year, with the pun, “Tooted his own horn”, Max told me that with all the things he’s accomplished in his life, being a successful musician, performing on SNL, the Tonight Show, Letterman, and in front of tens of thousands of people, his father would have been most proud of him for being in the Jumble. My bond is very tight with these amazing people. Do yourselves a favor and listen to their music!

    • 🎶Chicago, Chicago, that toddlin’ town….I saw a man and he danced with his wife..in Chicago, Chicago my home town🎶 Well not exactly mine, but you get my drift! Thank you for taking the time out of this obviously romantic weekend to reply to me, I really appreciate it…. So I didn’t do too badly then, considering…And as for Max? Swear on the Brooklyn Bible, I had written that Paul should have been blowin’ a sax, but I went back and did an edit and deleted the line…I mean, I figured you had to know better than me, right? 😉 It was the beard that threw me off…And I’m loving your background story so much, that I’ll I PROPOSE a toast! 🍷Cent’ Anni! To a hundred years! It’s a sweet, beautiful memory….As for Max’s sentiments with being featured, I can totally understand…I think we all aspire to see ourselves immortalized in these tiny little panels! Who wouldn’t? …Just one favor though? Please pass along my apologies to Abra. I knew it wasn’t her, but I’m such a slave to the Power of the Pun, that I just had to get in the “MOORE..,or less”. It’s becoming ever too clear to me that I’m willing to push the envelope at any cost..and I could say that I’m embarrassed by it…but who am I kiddin’? 😉 I hope you and Kathy enjoy the concert tonight, Jeff, and 🎶..have the time of your life…🎶 Thanks again…🙋🏻

    • I beg your pardon. I don’t do sax, flute or clarinet. In high school my teacher said she would pass me if I didn’t take up the trumpet the following year. Naturally I gave it up. I had two years of lessons on the guitar and never got pass the pluck pluck stage. That’s about the extent of my music career. And yes I know he wasn’t talking about me. Have a pleasant evening.

      • LOL…Paul..what’re you trying to tell us? You DIDN’T make the Band? Love your sense of humor, Brooklyn…Hope you’re having a good night! 🎤🙋🏻

  6. Hi all – I only got RATIO because of having seen it before (and first thinking AORTA). Likewise PONCHO, although it still took a little while to remember it.
The answer was obvious. It didn’t hurt that the subject of the Daily Puzzle on the Word Search World Traveller app today was musical terms.

Given the dialog about “great harmonies”, if the group had been all female, I would have thought they were the Chordettes. (🎵”Mister Sandman, bring me a dream..”🎵)

    Have a great day, everyone!

Angela, you, Jeff and Chuck are going to cause me to wallow in nostalgia a bit here. When I moved to Illinois after college, I lived in Naperville for my first year (my first real job was with Bell Labs there when it was still part of Ma Bell). Then for the second year, we moved downtown and lived in the Old Town neighborhood. Can’t say I’ve ever heard of Thalia Hall – in fact, the only place I’ve ever heard that name is “Thalia Menninger”, Dobie Gillis’ girlfriend – but it was there that I saw John Belushi with Second City before he joined Saturday Night Live, and saw a great performance at the Quiet Knight nightclub by SF band Dan Hicks and his Hot Licks, including “I Scare Myself”, and “How Can I Miss You Wnen You Won’t Go Away.” That was the show where he said the band was “travelling around the country exposing ourselves.” 😂
And for yet more, we also saw the Blue Angels in Chicago flying lower than our balcony one Sunday morning.

    • It looks like Poncho and Ratiio TOP the CHARTS today….I found the answer pretty obvious too. A very clever pun! G, I think what you have here, is not so much a bout of nostalgia, as a game of 6 degrees! All that’s missing is the partridge in the pear tree! 😉 As for Thalia Hall, I know it’s a Historic Landmark, and it was founded around the turn of the century…If you lived in Chicago, you probably passed it many a time, just maybe didn’t realize what it was…And oddly enough, I know two women named Thalia…It’s a pretty name. Greek. And both the women are Italian..Go figure! Have a good one, G! 🎸🎤🙋🏻

    • Hey Professor…Thanks for the info. Now let’s see if I remember it! 😉 $&(!€%% Astros, huh? Hope your nights going well despite them…🙁🙋🏻

    • Hi Vivian…But it was fun, no? I think we’d all be hard pressed to come up with the “perfect” answer to please everyone’s taste day after day after day….Thanks for stopping by, and please do so again…Have a good night! 🎤🙋🏻
