MHRHTY = RHYTHM

CARTOON ANSWER:

TO BECOME BETTER AT GOLF, THE YOUNG GOLFER WOULD NEED TO —

UROASESECTHYT = STAY THE COURSE

Happy Thursday, Jumble friends! ASPECT is a new clue word this morning while the remaining three were old favorites from 2017. BURRO took me the longest to decipher making it my choice for the most difficult anagram of the day. ASKED ended up being the oldest of the group with its last appearance in gameplay on 5/31/17.

The setting for today’s cartoon is a golf course where we encounter two Jumble characters having a discussion. The cartoon sentence informs us that the young woman is having difficulty with her game and is on the brink of giving up. The gentleman is attempting to assuage her frustration by telling her that she needs a bit more playing time to sharpen her skills.

There were plenty of details in today’s panel to make it visually interesting. The golf course itself was impeccably maintained and we can see another hole amongst the trees in the background. The look of frustration on our young player was perfectly captured and you can’t help but want to offer up some positive words to give her encouragement to keep playing. She is also wearing a golf glove on her left hand which lets us know that she is most likely right handed.

The gentleman looks like he may be a caricature of one of Jeff’s golf buddies as he seems to have many distinct features that are atypical of his usual Jumble characters. On his hat is a small logo that looked like a tiger but it was so tiny that I had difficulty pinpointing exactly what it was. At his feet are a few golf balls, a broken tee and some rolled back grass indicating a very bad swing.

The letter layout for the final solution was 13-letters in length and kept the solution well hidden. The TH near the end of the anagram brought THE to mind as the possible 3-letter word. With those few letters out of the way, I was able to see COURSE next followed by STAY to finish it off. The surprise answer seemed familiar to me and a quick search showed that it has been used a couple of times in the past (6/23/17 & 11/04/16). Have a terrific Thursday, and I’ll see you tomorrow!

  1. 🎢 We’ve known each other for so long…Your heart’s been aching, but you’re too shy to say it…Inside we both know what’s been going on, We know the GAME and we’re gonna PLAY it…Just wanna tell you how I’m feeling…Gotta make you understand…NEVER GONNA GIVE YOU UP…Never gonna let you down…Never gonna run around and desert you…Never gonna make you cry, Never gonna say goodbye, Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you…🎢 “Never Gonna Give You Up” – Rick Astley 1987

🏌You hit a golf ball in the air…you follow with your eyes,
The ASPECT of it traveling should come as no surprise…
One’s often ASKED as an aside, “You happy with the shot”?
    And most times it’s a yes..but then quite often it’s a not.
Beginners must learn RHYTHM, where their stance meets with the ball,
And as BURRO is to stubborn, concentration trumps it all…
It’s not an easy lesson, and the “fair way” you’ll soon see,
Is having patience with the game, become one with the tee.
Just stick with it and take your time, no cart before the horse…
You want to be a golfer? You’ll just have to STAY THE COURSE!🏌

Not being STYMIEd by any of our words today, I PLAYED RIGHT THROUGH. And then I realized that WEDGEr you know about GOLF or not, today’s puzzle solution is a basic LESSON in life. And it’s well DRIVEN home by the dialogue of our two characters: BIRDIE, our female student, and AL BATROSS, our instructor. And looking at the puzzle as a HOLE, in ONE fell swoop, it was an immediate solve. “Practice more…Don’t Quit”. STAY. STAY THE COURSE! It’s a SWALE pun, David…A STROKE of genius!..Ok, let’s SWING over to the eye candy….

I see what I believe to be a GOLF BALL or a TEE MARKER, a DIVOT of grass, a broken TEE, and a definite TEE MARKER, LINED UP left to right on the GREENS, at our characters’ FEET. The over-all GREEN? A very drab olive shade…definitely not UP TO PAR. A look of exasperation on BIRDIE’s face, in contrast to the APPROACHable, smiling look of…”C’mon, just get a GRIP” on AL’S…He’s trying to STROKE her ego…There’s a FLAGSTICK at the HOLE right behind them. I’m a little HANDICAPped here though, by the Rectangular-Shape, on the poled image way off in the back at left. I think it to be a YARDAGE (FAIRWAY) MARKER, but I’m not sure, since they’re mostly placed on the ground…It can be another FLAGGED GREEN, as it is next to a BUNKER. There’s Black-Silhouetted trees all along the background. I see a toothed animal-like face showing on AL’S cap, (worn over his long hair), that I can’t identify either…I thought maybe it was comically drawn to resemble Jack Nicklaus’s “Golden Bear” logo, but that’s depicted full-bodied in profile, so I guess that makes two items that I really can’t DUB…Maybe Jeff can SWING by and help me with the CONNECTION. BIRDIE, a Right-Handed GOLFER, dressed in a Blue top and shoes, with a Black skirt, is wearing a White GLOVE on her left hand, matching her White Visor. But the JUMPER off the page today? I have to ADDRESS AL’s Pants…They’re a Brown Checkerboard pattern! I mean I could have dealt with a STRIPE…but Checkerboard? KNOCKed me DOWN with laughter! So, There you have it, Folks! Done! Have a great day, Everyone! And may the COURSE be with you…Hmm. How odd…I’m suddenly craving a FRIED EGG and a CHICKEN WING…πŸŒπŸ™‹πŸ»

  2. There is a certain RHYTHM to the gait of a BURRO and when ASKED, riders will describe that ASPECT as gentle and calming.
Little time right now but I do want to send shout outs to Mike and Angela for such outstanding posts. They are a very important ASPECT of my day and without them, I believe my personal RHYTHM would be, if ASKED, not that of a gentle BURRO, but more like a jackass. Thanks for all you do. πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ‘πŸΎπŸ‘ŠπŸ½

    • πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ» ..Kudos on both!…And I’ve come to know the RHYTHM of your writing, and which ASPECT you may favor; so if I were ASKED to describe it, I’d have to say that although you show the stubbornness of a BURRO, you’re creativity supercedes! 😘 Thank you very much, Earl…Have a good one! πŸŒπŸ™‹πŸ»

  3. Good morning. Still having trouble getting jumble. If it’s not in the junk mail I have to use the calendar to get in. Never got back to you guys yesterday. Went to three casinos. Angie and I accompanied two others to Oceans for a free lunch only to find out they cut it back from four to only two. After signing up I turned my $15 comp into $61. Angie came out $140 to the good. The two of us then went to Hard Rock where I signed up but didn’t get a cash comp. You had to laugh because I quit with winning $1.61 and Angie $42. Now it’s back to Resorts where we had lunch on my remaining comp. We had 2 1/2 hrs to play and although nothing exciting really happened. After dropping $150 in the last half hour,I still went home $110 on the winning side. Angie went home with $42 on the winning side. A lot better than losing and we had a fun time. Nice work Mike, enjoyed the extras. Angela,I’ll have to check out the song. Nice poem and puns, plus all the extras that I missed in the picture. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Hey Brooklyn…You know, this morning it was a toss-up between this song and 🎢Stay🎢by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. They were both playing in my head..I think you may recognize the one I chose, but while you’re there, check out the 4-Seasons one too, I think it’s more your speed. You can never complain when you come home ahead of the game, and it sounds like you and Angie had a nice adventure besides…Glad to hear it. Thanks for the Shout Outs..but you haven’t mentioned the puzzle! Go, or no? πŸŒπŸ™‹πŸ»

      • Thanks Angela, your absolutely correct. I forgot all about it. For me,RHYTHM was the hardest word to get. It took me some time and then I goofed up on the spelling. Couldn’t figure why I didn’t have two Ts for the cartoon answer and then realized my misspelled word. Once I corrected that I got the answer which was very par for the course. Until tomorrow stay well.

        • Brooklyn…No harm, no foul..You forgot about it because you were excited to tell us about coming home a winner! πŸ˜‚ I don’t blame you. I only had one other person tell me they were stuck on Rhythm…and it is an oddly spelt word. Hope you’re enjoying your day. Ciao, Bello. πŸ™‹πŸ»

  4. Burro had me stumped as I saw rubber or robber before burro came into view.Aspect also gave me a slight pause, but rhythm with no apparent vowels came quickly as did asked. As far as the final solution, being an avid golfer, stay the course was no problem,

    • Hi Clay..That’s a good guess. It’s an odd looking image, that’s for sure. But if I’m not mistaken, it’s Jeff’s daughter who attends the University of Cincinnati, Jeff went to the University of Michigan. And I think the Bearcats logo is a Capital Scripted “C” with claw-like lines at top. I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen a Bearcat face. I have to check…Or have you done so already? Save me the trouble? πŸ˜‰πŸ™‹πŸ»

        • …Oh, right, their Mascot. Sorry about that..pretty dense on my part…I really don’t know, Clay, and the image on the hat isn’t colored. It’s just the black outlined drawing on the yellow hat. Maybe it is a Tiger image as Mike said?..A Shout Out to Tiger Woods on his comeback? But then again, these panels are done at least 6 weeks in advance..so that may not hold water either…You got me Clay…So the ball’s back in your court…πŸ˜‰ No pun intended! πŸ™‹πŸ»

  5. Add me to the list who paused at burro. In retrospect it doens’t seem like it should have been that difficult but it was. Figured out the cartoon without problem. Your sunglasses have been relaced with a pumpkin, Mike so guess Fall is officially here. I have my Halloween decorations up so I’m all ready. Angela, my friend and I are taking a trip down the Hudson River in a couple of weeks to see the Fall colors. We are going to go to Washington Irving’s home in Sleepy Hollow. Perhaps we’ll see the Headless Horseman?? Happy Thursday everyone.

    • Hi Betty.. I went back to look. Last time we had BURRO, was December 30th, and oddly enough, it didn’t stump anyone …Or maybe we had all gotten into the “Egg Nog” by then, and we really didn’t care! πŸ˜‰ And I agree, the cartoon was an easy solve…And now..OMG! OMG! I can’t believe you’re coming to NY! Sleepy Hollow is nothing short of breath-taking..That whole area is, and the colors are mesmerizing…You’re going to FALL in love for sure..Be sure to take a ton of pics. I ended up framing a bunch for myself and my family after my last visit there…Oh, you’re soooo lucky! I wish it wasn’t so far away from me, especially that I’m not a driver…And if you’re going near Halloween, you may be able to catch an enactment show of some kind….and you will see the Headless Horseman! I’m so excited! LOL!!! And Happy Thursday to you too! πŸπŸƒπŸ‚πŸ™‹πŸ»

    • Ohhh, Betty! Your trip sounds cool enough to make one turn green with jealousy! Thanks for your kind words about the A’s. They had a great year, and as you and I know, even if they didn’t achieve their ultimate goal, they always get the great consolation prize of coming back home here!

      • I’m so sad that they lost last night but there’s always next year and Oakland loves them no matter what.

    • I’m happy to hear that you noticed my transition to the Halloween season, Betty! I’ll change it again for Thanksgiving and then Christmas. Your trip sounds like fun and I hope the colors are vibrant! I hope you’re enjoying your evening. πŸ™‚

  6. Hi all – Fortunately tried ED at the end to get ASKED more quickly. BURRO took an extra look after seeing ROBBER, and then trying ACCESS made ASPECT jump right out. That took me the longest, though. I thought the answer’s middle word would be HER, but looking at the letters showed the correct one.

Thanks for the details Mike and Angela. It seems to me that if you have to β€œreplace your divot” while you’re still in the tee box, your swing does indeed need some work.

I’ll have to dedicate a song to the A’s today:
    πŸŽ΅β€The party’s over
It’s time to call it a day
    They’ve burst your pretty balloon
    And taken the moon away
Now you must wake up, all dreams must end
Take off your makeup, the party’s over
    It’s all over, my friendβ€πŸŽ΅
