Good Monday morning, Jumble players! All of the clue words that we see today are old favorites from 2017. ROBOT was jumbled so well that it actually tripped me up for a moment before it finally came into view. FENNEL took the longest to decipher making it my choice for the most difficult anagram of the day. We last saw it jumbled as FLEENN on 8/20/17 which was equally as difficult.
The setting for today’s cartoon is a classroom where we see a teacher standing in front of a dry erase board. Just behind her are three children and they’re seated at one long desk. The children look very young so I’d venture a guess that this is most likely a second or third grade class. By looking at the list of words on the board it was immediately apparent that her lesson for today was verbs.
There were only two fine details in today’s panel that caught my attention. First was the dry erase marker and eraser which were on a small shelf at the bottom of the board. Jeff added a bit of shading under the shelf which gave it some depth and made it more visually interesting. The second detail was a poster on the wall just behind the teachers head. It appears to show the day and night cycle of earth as half of the planet is shaded.
The sentence for today’s cartoon was in the form of a question which regular players of the puzzle will identify as being highly unusual. The final solution was a breeze after noticing that the question omitted the word VERB and used “action words” instead. The letter layout was 8-letters in length and not very cryptic with RBV being right at the front. We’re off to an easy start this week so my fingers are crossed that we have a few challenging puzzles in the days to come. Have a marvelous Monday, and I’ll see you tomorrow!

Two items…I thought salary was saraly…nobody doesn’t like sara lee and I learned over the weekend that we all have dry erase boards in our houses…they’re called mirrors!

LOL..Yes, I suppose it does…Too bad it doesn’t “erase” everything…Like the receding hairlines, the wrinkles…those weird images of clothing that has somehow mysteriously shrunken overnight! .😉 ..I guess, as you said…We may all like that Sara Lee…but she may not always like us! 😉🙋🏻

With an increase in SALARY, the ROBOT engineer felt it VITAL to upgrade his garden with FENNEL, garlick and oregano.

I think you’re right Mike – Earl’s engineer is named HERB, and his wife, who perennially tends to the FENNEL, is named VERBENA. 🙋🏻♂️

Hi all – I only got FENNEL quickly because it used to grow in my backyard. Then saw SALARY after discarding LY at the end and figuring that the “A”’s had to remain separated. I thought the answer could be something like COMMAND, but I got the VERB pun just before writing down the letters.
Angela, funny how lyrics vary – I’ve always heard that as “all at the end of a hickory stick.” Some things about the “good old days” weren’t always so good!

I don’t think I’ve ever heard it that way…Not to say that old hickory stick didn’t have a variety of “uses” ..And now that you mention it…Catholic elementary school in the ’60’s? Maybe not a hickory stick per se…but those nuns wielded whatever they got their hands on! Yep, not always so good at all…📏🙋🏻
Good afternoon. Another late post. My newspaper came late and I had no time to post as I had an eye exam and ordered two new pairs. I had to pick my glasses up slightly to read better. It’s been two years since I got new ones so I was pretty sure my eyesight was getting worse. Thank you three amigos for a job well done. Today’s jumble was fairly simple. I agree that Fennel was the hardest of all. It clicked into my head because I was going through the spice cabinet looking for another one and rememberd picking it up. After writing down the letters it took less than five minutes to get. Cute. Until tomorrow stay well.
