CARTOON ANSWER:  THE SPEAR HAD JUST BEEN INVENTED, AND IT WOULD BE USED FROM – – –

TOH   OO   ART   NIT   MP   FN =   FROM THAT POINT ON

Good Morning, Everyone!                 🔪 SPEAR ME THE DETAILS….🔪

🎶 There’s a man in the funny papers we all know…Alley Oop, oop, oop-oop
He lived ‘way back a LONG TIME AGO...Alley Oop, oop, oop-oop…
He don’t eat nothin’ but a bear cat stew…Alley Oop, oop, oop-oop
Well this cat’s name is-a Alley Oop… Alley Oop, oop, oop-oop
He’s the toughest man there is alive…(Alley Oop)… Wearin’ clothes from a WILDCAT’S HIDE… (Alley Oop) He’s the king of the jungle jive…Look at that CAVE MAN go…🎶 “Alley Oop” – The Hollywood Argyles 1960

🔪 Invention is a wondrous thing…to go from old to new…
Since dawn of time there’s always been someone who follows through.
Like now with Sports condoning a wager here and there,
And BOOKIEs ‘cross America…their profits? FINITE, Dear…
So even back in Caveman days, when someone found a way,
To better life for everyone, they’d FLAUNT it and they’d say…
“Forget the Club, THOUGH it’s done well, I’ve got something right here,
That revolutionizes hunts…I’m calling it a Spear..”
Of course some tried to THWART it, those afraid of the unknown…
But like a CAMPUS rally, crowds round Alley Oop had grown…
And eventually, they saw its worth…The Spear broke through the dawn…
The new invention “Stuck” like glue…Success FROM THAT POINT ON! 🔪

Ok…Today’s words. CAMPUS? Used exactly a year ago today! And THWART was here in both May (7th), and July (16th), of last year. FLAUNT? Displayed itself last on November 8th. Oddly, I’m not seeing THOUGH, BOOKIE, or FINITE. Yet, they seem very familiar. I’m going to look further and get back to you..Have I seen them on the JUST JUMBLE APP, and I’m blurring lines here? Possibly. Speaking of…If you haven’t yet downloaded the App? You should! Jumble Puzzles at your fingertips, tons to SPEAR..and you can play any time you choose! It’s a wonderful APP, and I guarantee you’ll see my POINT!…Anyway, today’s anagrams are exceptionally well done. Maybe one of the best Sunday offerings we’ve had in some time…Drop us a line, and let us know what you think…

So, on to our carton. Transported back in time…we find ourselves amongst CAVE MEN...and WOMAN! ALLEY OOP has INVENTED the SPEAR, and he’s singing its’ praises about changing Hunting “FOREVER”…”Trust me’, he’s saying…’It’s a mighty VINE invention”! His audience, ROCKY with the club, and CON-CAVE with that sunken chest, aren’t that excited. CON-CAVE feels it’s just a fad. You know….”What’s the POINT of getting excited?…ALLEY always thought he was such a big WHEEL“! I think he’s jealous…But the woman? MARSHA? She’s all for it! “This is great! You’re so SHARP…this is right up my ALLEY! No more GATHERing  FOR..AGES! It aPIERCE you’ve got a winner here”! So…this new INVENTION? Did it CATCH on? Yes, it did! And now, it’ll be used…FROM THAT POINT ON! Good one, David! MEATY!

And, the eye candy…Key to the solution, are the tiny lines Jeff has drawn, emanating from the POINT of the SPEAR. SHARP, Jeff…very SHARP! Chest hair is shown on each of our men, with ROCKY being the most graciously endowed…Full head of hair, bearded, with a mustache and hair on his legs…HIRSUTE’s the CAVEMEN image, don’t you think? Or shall I say HE SUITS the CAVEMAN image? And CON-CAVE sports a Man-Bun...COMB on, even back then? There’s PALM Trees FLANKing the background…But should there be? If so, I HAND it to you, Jeff. If not, I’ll LEAF it alone…There’s also two erupting VOLCANOS, but I’ll BLOW them off…And we have an array of LOIN cloths – striped, ruffled, fringed and spotted…Fashionable, yes…but not exactly covering it…Then there’s the Animal Carcass on the ground…DUST not enough though…And, we see the BONES in MARSHA’S Hair and Ear, but I’m not PICKING that either…I’m going to go with ALLEY’S Ankle Bracelets…Just GRIPping, FUR a lack of anything better! So, There you have it, Folks! Done! Have a great day, Everyone! And I’ll leave you with a little Prehistoric joke…What do you call a wandering CAVEMAN? A  MEANDERthal! HUMEROUS, right? 🔪🙋🏻

  1. The professor tried to FLAUNT his theory of the FINITE foolishness of dealing with a BOOKIE on CAMPUS even THOUGH he was never able to THWART a few students from trying to prove him wrong.
No difficulty with the clue words today, although CAMPUS slowed me down for a tic or two. The solution was not immediately obvious, even after I had written all the letters. The two letter word at the end stumped me for a while, but after struggling, the answer came.
Young song choice was point on today Angela—haven’t thought of that song in a very long time.
Poem seemed to flow with smooth and silky lines. Well done.
Puns were not pre-historic and hit just the right spot on those rocks.
Eye candy? I don’t see the cartoon in colour so I am sure I am missing a lot. Thanks for pointing out details.
Have a restful and serene Sunday everyone.

  2. Good Morning, Earl. Great sentence…And we had a odd lot to work with, right? I didn’t have any problem with the words, and the solution came to me as soon as I thought of POINT. Going with SPEAR, and noticing Jeffs lines around the POINT of it, it DAWNed on me…I should go back and add that into my post..I forgot to do so. I think today’s solution was very cleverly HANDLED! Thanks for the Shout Outs and the Poem Nom, and I enjoy your puns in offering them. As for the eye candy, you’re not missing much color today., but I’ll give you this link to take a look for yourself…And 🎶Alley Oop🎶? ROCK on! 😉 Have a great day, Earl! 🙋🏻

    • Angela–thanks for the comments and the link—which I have used before and find annoying except for the colour–fussy me.
BTW I forgot to explain the term “inverted commas” which you asked about yesterday. Yes it’s the British equivalent of quotation marks. Both make perfect sense, but I prefer the British version—somehow explains this term rather than just stating it? If that makes any sense.
Another thought: Do you know the name of the combined punctuation mark that combines the Exclamation Point ! and the question mark? I heard it on NPR but forgot. The program used this sentence/question as an example:
Are you kidding me? OR You’re getting out in that?

      • Hi Earl..You’re very welcome. I’m not crazy about that site either, but I go to it before my paper’s delivered to see the coloring. My paper prints the puzzle in color, but it’s usually not delivered until 4:30-4:45 AM or so, and as you can see, I often start out a lot earlier than that! 😳 The inverted commas? Yes, I thought so, and you’re right..it is much more effective as an explanation! I like it! As for the word you’re looking for? I think it’s called an “interrobang”, if I’m following you correctly…Odd word, right? 😂 Look it up, and let me know if that’s what you mean…❓❗️🙋🏻

  3. This is not today’s jumble as far as I see. I see the first word SABOS which unscrambles to BASSO and I didn’t like BASSO as an English word any more than BOSSA and was hoping for opinions about that

    • Hi..Good Morning…Take a look at the date written on the cartoon itself. Let me know what it is, and I’ll do my best to help you out..🙋🏻

    • Ok. That’s one of the vintage Jumble puzzles that some papers and websites print on Sunday’s. Shockwave prints that puzzle for today. The word is BASSO, which is a male voice, or a vocal part..A bass singer…I hope this helps…😉🙋🏻

  4. It has today’s date, 8/26. I know the answer (“CROSS” ROADS) but am not sure about BASSO as a legitimate word entry.

  5. Hi all – All three last words took an extra look. CAMPUS would have been the hardest for me except that I remembered seeing it before. Had to write the letters and stare for awhile, saw WORTH, WITH and ROOM, but then saw POINT, and with the cavewoman making it a point to point it out, that word had to be in the answer and the rest appeared.

Please don’t give up gathering. We’re omnivores, and I’d miss my salads and vegetables. (And the guys aren’t *always* successful, and there’s no corner store or fish market to stop at on the way back from the hunt.) I guess if anyone has a right to go on the Paleo diet though, she does.

My favorite detail is the pterodactyls flying overhead, although they were extinct millions of years before we showed up. Definitely a good use of artistic license.

    Have a great Sunday everyone!

THOUGH the BOOKIE tried to FLAUNT his online betting site on CAMPUS, the FINITE resources of the students would THWART his plans.

Great song Angela; time to dig up The Kinks “Ape Man” again –
🎵”In man’s evolution he has created the cities and
The motor traffic rumble, but give me half a chance
And I’d be taking off my clothes and living in the jungle
‘Cos the only time that I feel at ease
Is swinging up and down in a coconut tree
Oh what a life of luxury to be like an ape man”🎵

    • Hey G..The POINT is what gave it away..And I went back and added it into my post after I found myself POINTing it out to Earl…And I like your sentence..👏🏻 …But PALEO diet? FUR her? She’s practically SKIN and BONES as it is! Let her FLAUNT what she’s got..and SPEAR her any dieting! But I am surprised her hair isn’t KINKier! 😂 If that were me? I’d be GATHERing up all that humid tropical air..not to mention..🎶the bugs…and the spiders and flies…🎶 😂 Have a good one, G! 🔪🙋🏻

  6. Good afternoon. I don’t know maybe I didn’t sleep good last night because,I didn’t think it was easy today. In fact I thought it was very hard. The words from 1-6 were solved in this fashion. 1-5th,2-1st,3-2nd,4-6th,5-3rd and 6-4th. In fact I looked up the 4th word and I don’t think I ever saw the word before so I also looked up its meaning. The cartoon answer took me about ten minutes to get. After writing down all the letters I crossed out From then On. After that I got That and the remaining letters left me point. Never noticed the hint that was given on the spear. Thanks Angela for the terrific song choice, brought back fond memories. Nice work on the words, poem and puns. Earl,Heck of a job using the words in a sentence. For me they were not so easy but your usage of them flows like fine wine. I see Steve joined in with the words and did a great job as well. Until tomorrow stay well. By the way ,I had to put the paper down because I had to go out early. But as soon as I got back I went to work on it.

    • Hey, Brooklyn…How you doin’? I was wondering where you were…Paul, if you look again, no one said these were easy words today…What Earl and I did say was that we didn’t have any problems with them..But I made a POINT of mentioning that I felt these were some of the best anagrams we’ve had in quite some time…So you can’t be too hard on yourself…And the solution wasn’t a piece of cake either…I feel it was all in the clues…Thanks for the Shout Outs, and I was happy to remember the song too…Goofy song that made people laugh…Hope you had a good day, and get to enjoy this beautiful night! …We got another heat wave on tap…Gimme a break, right? Keep the Claritin close by, Brooklyn! 😘🙋🏻

    • Thanks for the kind words, Paul. I just try to emulate the Sentence Master occasionally. I don’t know how he does it everyday.

  7. Ok..This is what I’ve GATHERED from my HUNT…THOUGH and FINITE are nothing NEW. They’ve been used before and are therefore enTRAPPED within the Jumble Archives…BOOKIE is making its debut…
Oh, and I should note…On Wednesday we had the word LAUGH…And remember we thought it was new? Well, the LAUGH’s on us, because it wasn’t either…Lo and beOLD, huh? Hope Everyone’s had a great day so far…Enjoy the night! 🙋🏻

    • I see you got right to the POINT! Excellent Jumble word scholarship Angela. I appreciate it and find it interesting. THOUGH always takes me THROUGH ROUGH, THOUGHT and other words before I get it. Finally sometimes getting the hang of FIASCO, CASINO, SOCIAL and other nemesis words when I see them again.

Hope you have a good one also – Yankees I presume. I’ll watch the A’s game that I recorded in a little while. I see the Yanks, Mariners and Mets are all coming to visit. That should be fun, and maybe go a ways to clearing up the picture — or not! 🙋🏻‍♂️
