Good morning everyone, and happy Tuesday! All of the clue words that we encountered today were old friends. We haven’t seen any of them since 2017 with BURST being the oldest of the bunch. They were all instantly visible upon first glance but GLOOMY is my pick for the most difficult anagram of the day. Did you try using the -LY trick on this one? David has given us adverb after adverb for the past few days but decided to change course and chose a word where the L and Y would be separated. With all of the clue words out of the way, I made my way to the very interesting cartoon.
Today’s panel brings us to a field where we see two men playing a game of frisbee. Upon reading the cartoon sentence, we discover that this isn’t an ordinary field but an actual frisbee golf course where the two men are competing against one another. I’ve never heard of frisbee golf so I had to do some research and find out if it was actually a sport. It turns out that frisbee golf (sometimes called disc golf or Frolf) is indeed a sport and it’s the 4th fastest growing sport in the US behind MMA, Roller Derby, and Parkour!
Disc golf is very similar to golf where players take turns by throwing a disc from a tee and navigate the hole by picking up the disc where it lands and throwing again until they reach the target. Courses typically use trees, bushes, elevation changes and water hazards to make each hole challenging and unique. In today’s cartoon, Jeff shows us elevation changes by having players throw uphill towards a target. Each target consists of a basket with chains. Scoring occurs when the disc hits the chains and falls into the basket.
The letter layout for the final solution consisted of 8-letters. RFA was coupled together giving me FAR with FLUNG being found shortly after. The fact that this cartoon featured a sport that I’ve never heard of made for a surprisingly fun challenge. Have a terrific Tuesday and I’ll see you tomorrow!

WAY SHORT and sweet…All old words, their appearances ranging from March-December 2017. And all easily recognizable. Today’s theme though? Who knew? DISC GOLF, FRISBEE GOLF? DISC is something I knew nothing about…And if you’re like me? Totally GREEN? Just take a look on-line. There’s a world of information THROWN out there. But since I’m really SHORT on time this morning, I’ll just say that it originally began in the early 1900’s. Although…the modern game being played here, out on the FRISBEE GOLF COURSE Jeff’s taken us to today?…This started around 1960. We see two players, a mustached PHIL D, and the other, nick-named BASKET. This game? Basically, you throw a DISC, it goes into those TARGETS or BASKETS…the HOLES. 9 or 18 HOLES, just like GOLF, and the DISCS are generally divided into three categories: Putters, All-Purpose Mid-Range DISCS, and Drivers. And of COURSE, they need to be FLUNG FAR enough…But just looking at the cartoon? Without knowing a thing? FLING! There it is! FAR-FLUNG! THROWN right at us! Great dialogue, great leading question…Great job! Kudos to both these guys…No, not PHIL D and BASKET…They’ve FALLEN WAY SHORT! I meant Kudos to David and Jeff! They’ve made it just so SHORT and Sweet!
Ok, eye candy…We see three Targets, one very tiny and FAR off in the backgROUND. Also back there is another player…We have another one of those Male Pony-Tails on PHIL D, which I personally hate seeing HAIR. We see BASKET, THROWING from the FIRST TEE, but I can’t tell if the pad he’s on is made of concrete, asphalt, rubber, gravel, or artificial turf, the five common choices. But it’s a pretty shade of green, so that may COLOR my decision towards the TURF. We know it’s the FIRST TEE, because there’s that tiny Number 1 written in the upper left- hand corner…My eyes are drawn to those sandals…SHOE’d you not be able to see them, they’re Brown with Black straps…I’d THROW them on…The DISCS are also a nice color…Peach! How Sweet! But I’ll go with the Blue wheeled-DISC GOLF CART…It’s COOLER than everything else…and it CARRIED me away! So, There you have it, Folks, Done! Have a great day, Everyone…And remember…Always swing for the fences…I mean FLING for the BASKETS…Sorry. You do realize, of COURSE, that it’s going to take me a while to get used to this HOLE thing!…And why do I have this sudden unCONTROLable urge to go DISCO dancing? 🔴🙋🏻

Judy,Judy,Judy, l guess I would be her tin man because my wife used to tease me that Germans have no hearts. Every time I came back from the doctor I used to tell her she was wrong about me having no heart because the doctor found one when he examined me. We had a good laugh, God bless her. Today’s entire jumble was easy for me. No hesitation what so ever. The cartoon answer was easy once I put down the letters. Until tomorrow stay well.

Hey, G. The expression is very common in NY-Bklyn. And would especially be used by any of the older guys that Paul plays Bocce with.The guys in the club say it constantly, and it was a favorite expression amongst my Father and his friends. My nephews have even started using it…Is it just an East Coast thing? 🤔🙋🏻
Maybe just New York. I don’t remember hearing it in RI until the movie “In Like Flint” came out, or possibly I was too young at the time. It does seem slightly “adult” for a kid to be using. 🙋🏻♂️

As noted above, I enjoy Disc Golf but can understand why you might prefer other spectator sports. Your poem and post did not suffer because of your lack of enthusiasm–spot on as usual.
The hair styles and sandals are certainly appropriate for when this sport was fast becoming popular, I think.

Poststar had yesterday’s Jumble in it sadly. I’ve been playing frisbee golf since college in the late ’70s. Back then you picked out a target to hit. Now the courses have metal baskets with chains to catch the frisbee from far range if you’re really good. There are also driving, fairway and putting frisbees for different lengths of shot just like in real golf. Fun to play!

Hi all – No trouble with the words. I used the double letter trick to get GLOOMY, so didn’t get distracted by the -LY trick. Then wrote down the letters and saw the answer.
The first time I remember seeing Frisbee become really popular, with every grassy area being filled with players, was in the spring of 1969, just as I finished up school and left RI. I didn’t see any sports associated with it then. but I’ve since heard about Frisbee golf here for a long time. Never played it or seen an actual course, though.
Angela, the first thing that came to mind was Spikeball, but I couldn’t remember the name, so thanks for mentioning it.
