LIDLR – DRILL

VABEO – ABOVE

DREEMY – REMEDY

GORNDA – DRAGON

CARTOON ANSWER:  PRICES AT THE AUCTION WERE GOING UP AND UP. THIS WOULD GO ON UNTIL THE – – –

DI   BE   ED   DRN =  “BIDDER” END

Good Morning, Everyone!         🎨 AT WHAT PRICE…GAME? 🎨

🎶 Well, the AUCTIONEER was goin’ ’bout a mile a minute, he was taking BIDS and callin’ them out loud…And I guess I was really gettin’ in it, ’cause I just shouted out above the crowd…And I said, “Hey pretty Lady! Won’t you gimme a sign? I’d give anything to make you mine, all mine, I’ll do your BIDDIN‘ and be at your beck and call.” Yeah I’ve never seen any anyone lookin’ so fine, Man I gotta have her, she’s a one of a kind…I’m goin’ once, goin’ twice, I’m sold…🎶 “Sold” – John Michael Montgomery 1995

🎨 To anyone who’s ever been, an Auction’s quite intense,
You know the DRILL, you bid and bid it’s all at your expense.
While moderation comes to mind, it’s not always the case,
The REMEDY for foolishness: Remembering your base…
To bid ABOVE your means can sometimes get you in a bind,
It all depends on who else might be bidding on your find.
A DRAGON breathing down your neck, you look at him and think,
“Will this person outbid me here”? Your hopes begin to sink…
You want this painting badly, but just how much can you spend?
You swallow hard, your paddle’s up…here’s to the “BIDDER” END! 🎨

Wrapping up another week of Jumble fun, today, AUCTIONS speak louder than words…I searched for our words, and as odd as it seems, I just couldn’t find REMEDY. GRANTed…WOOD I be wrong? EASELly…but what’s the SOLUTION? It may be new, it may nART…But I will put in a BID for it to be the SKETCHIEST of our words today. I saw Emery, and I just couldn’t BRUSH past it…You know how it is…You PICTURE something in your mind, and you may as well HANG IT UP…you’re stuck! But I blinked a few times, and it PAID off…Ok, our cartoon: Today, we find ourselves attending an ART AUCTION. Six patrons are in attendance, but our focus is only on two women clHAMMERING for attention, and holding paddles # 2 and 6. A BIDDING war’s in progress, and our ladies, named TINA and LOUISE are going at it TOOTH and nail…And how ironic! The painting at the center of the storm, is a replica of the FRAMEous AMERICAN GOTHIC. And the artist, GRANT WOOD, used his dentist Byron McKeeby, as his farmer! I just enjoy these quirky little things…The woman was his sister, Nan Wood Graham. And speaking of quirky…Tina and Louise? Tina Louise? Ginger GRANT on “Gilligan’s Island”? Now she was a work of ART, am I right? Beautiful woman. Again, this Six Degrees of Separation just amuses me…And whether or not Jeff was thinking along the same LINES as I? I GOTHIC think so! Anyway, our question is asking…With the price going up and up in this war, who’ll win the PADDLE? It’ll go on until the…”BIDDER” END! Good one, David! OIL I can say is you’re always right on the money!

Ok, eye candy…Where do I stART? Let’s BRUSH past the BACKGROUND players first…There are two gentlemen at center, one wearing a 10-Gallon hat, both experiencing cases of Sticker SHOCK! The look on their FACES is PRICEless! The other two male patrons are only seen from behind…Louise at left, looks annoyed, while Tina has a look of joyful animation…And our AUCTIONEER is nattily dressed in purple, as he recognizes another BID from #6. There’s no GAVEL in sight though, and I PAINTiently searched. And as always, there’s Jeff’s Weather Vane, with its’  requisite form of fowl. But the WORK of ART here today? Our PAINTING! With AMERICAN GOTHIC being the most parodied PAINTING in American Artwork, Jeff has definitely UPped the ante! I mean, CANVAS be? He’s drawn the two characters as David and himself…and re-named the PAINTING, “AMERICAN PUZZLERS“, with his signature showing! Now how cool is that? Depicting David as the male figure, (with perhaps a Nike logo on his bib-front), holding a WOOD – a GOLF CLUB instead of a pitchfork, Jeff, in turn, has taken on the persona of the female figure, sporting an Izod sweater instead of the apron. Ok, maybe he altered the characters’ features a little, but it sure looks like a SELF-PARODY! And the BACKGROUND of the PAINTING? It’s a Golf Course instead of the Farmhouse! Gotta hand it to you Jeff! PAL, ETTE’s truly a STROKE of Genius! So, There you have it Folks, Done! Have a great day, Everyone! And how about PAYING it forward today…TEXTURE loved ones! 🎨🙋🏻

  1. Great job Angela. Especially touched by the Ginger Grant thing. Jeff’s mind must be spinning all the time. I did notice the Izod shirt alligator. An awful lot in that cartoon. Kudos to 2 of the smartest people I know!

    • Good Morning, Early Bird! Yes, a lot of little quirks in today’s puzzle…But it remains to be seen if Jeff’s thoughts match mine…My imagination runs wild in the morning, and I’m a very formidable opponent at Six Degrees! Maybe he’ll let me know…Thanks for the Shout Out, I really appreciate it…Wishing you a good one, Hoosier! Ciao! 🎨🙋🏻

      • Angela I don’t know how you come up with these great songs everyday. I went back and listened to your choice and let’s just say I’ll be humble and call us even on the song. Reason being I think my song is better but on the video portion I’d clearly give you the edge. First time I ever heard that song. You are getting me to branch out from the 50s and 60s. I thank you for that.

        • LOL…Brooklyn, you have me rolling here! I’m trying to cook up a giant batch of sausage and peppers, and I’m going to end up burning the whole thing! You’ll owe me! I was thinking the same thing, from your first post. “Look at this…Paul’s got the music in him…Whatdya know”! I was soooo impressed…😉 You’re such a Sweetheart! 😘 Yea, your video’s a little out there! LOL…But I’ll admit, I never heard your song either, .so I guess we’re even…You so make me smile…😘🙋🏻

  2. The REMEDY for DRAGON breath is to have a routine DRILL of brushing and flossing and ABOVE all–do it every day.
No problem with the clue words and after seeing the dreaded quotation marks, I was ready for a struggle. At first, I thought BID might be the three-letter word, but that left me with nothing. Back to the DRAWING board and the BITTER END was uncovered. Clever pun.
No idea where that song came from Angela but the lyrics could have been “painted by number.”
So many details and brush strokes in your poem and post Angela, that I don’t know where to begin. Tina and Louise? Great homage to “Gilligan’s Island” Thanks for pointing out your read on the characters in “American Gothic”—amazing attention to detail. Way to go and lots of appreciation from this anglophile.
Have a Fun-filled Friday with friends and family.

    • Good Morning, Earl! The fun I found with this puzzle, which set me aflutter, and from here on forth will be one of my favorites, filled me with frivolity! 😉 What a gem! As is your sentence! It made me laugh out loud! 👏🏻! And I agree, the pun is truly a very clever one today! As always, Thank you soooo much for the Shout Outs and the Poem Nom…I had an absolute ball with this one! I have to admit though, that I’m almost sure I’ve used the song before…I’m going to check as soon as I have a moment. But yes, it is “PAINTED by number”! Kudos! 👏🏻 Good one! The Tina and Louise scenario? Again, I laughed out loud! And after thinking of the GRANT connection also, as I mentioned to Harry, I really am wondering if Jeff DREW the same conclusions as I…I’m hoping he lets me know…I’m so glad you enjoyed it all, and you’re very welcome…Believe me, this one undoubtedly was all my pleasure…I think Jeff truly PAINTED a beautiful PICTURE today! Have a great one, Earl…I hope you get to enjoy this beautiful weather! 🎨🙋🏻

      • Angela.i watched Gilligans Island all the time back then and it wasn’t Tina Louise that had my interest. It was Maryanne that I had a crush on. She wasn’t stuck up or a phony.

        • …A lot of men would agree with you, Paul. I’ve heard that a zillion times over the years…Personally? Neither one of them ever did a thing for me!!!!😂😂 🙋🏻

  3. Good morning. I breezed through the post because I wanted to contradict your song choice before someone else and I see nobody did. Because no one came up with a better song I went back and read everybody’s post. Earl, great flow of your opening lines. You had me believing it not thinking you had the four words from the puzzle until I read it a second time. I also agree the Angela did a heck of a job except on the song choice. I believe I have the perfect choice for today’s jumble. It is “Auctioner”by Leroy Van Dyke. You have to listen to it. I normally wouldn’t challenge you Angela but on this one I will. Today’s jumble was fairly easy but I was stuck on Dragon. It took me a good fifteen minutes at least to get. I had that V-8 moment and was talking to myself for a minute on how easy the word was. Hard to understand why some words just allude you. Especially when they are easy. I’m starting to get over the quotation trepidation and once I had the letters down the answer came to me. I knew the last word was End right away. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • I’m going to try to back peddle a little here…You made me laugh because you said someone else..It’s only us chickens this early in the morning! Me and Earl. Oh, and Harry made a brief appearance, but he’s not a music buff…And you know you can challenge me any time! We’re Brooklynites! Every things a challenge with us, right??? 😂. I’m laughing too because you’re starting to “talk” like me…V-8 moment, Quotation Trepidation!!! What have I done to you?? 😂😂 I’m soooo sorry!!! And you know it gets like that sometimes…We just can’t see the forest for the trees! But you done good, Brookkyn…Except maybe for that song!!!! LOL! Thanks for the Shout Out, Bud…You truly do make my mornings! Have a good one! 🎨🙋🏻

  4. Morning, all –
What a terrific drawing and answer! I love the solemn faces on the Jumble duo.
Like Earl, I initially tried bid for the second word.

    • Good Morning, Caroline! Totally agree! This entire puzzle today is a WORK OF ART! I loved working with it…Those two men? Totally shell-shocked, right? What’s the phrase? “Slack jawed” I think? Too funny! God only knows what they were hearing! There must have been some serious money being thrown around there! Leave it to us women! 😂😂 And looking at BID for the 3-letter word is the most logical choice I think, and I bet we’ll be hearing from others who followed suit! Hope you have a great day, Caroline! Take care! 🎨🙋🏻

  5. Big time crush on Tina Louise! And the two gentlemen in the back row look familiar. 😉

    • LOL….Figures…I think all you Hoosier boys have a thing for Redheads! 😉 Good Morning, Jeff! So now wait…It’s you and David again? But the guy’s blond! Oh, right…you don’t color these things! And what happened to you saying last year that you might begin to do so? More empty promises…between that and the fact that I’m NOT a Redhead? There’s the reason I DIDN’T move to Indiana!!! 😂 So you’re telling me that today we get a double-whammy? That is you in the PAINTING, right? Don’t make me have to DRAG it out of you! 😉 And since you’re HAIR? WOOD you indulge me? Were you going for the Ginger GRANT connection? Or is my imagination totally LOST AT SEA? 🤔🙋🏻

  6. Bidder end reminded me of the bedded mattress the other day.As far as today’s words
dre-emy looked like dreamy instead of remedy, and above like bravo, but so went the day.

    • Professor! Good Morning! What can I say? TARTS just the way it is sometimes! You can’t just LUMP these puns all together! 😉 I tic-ed the slightest bit at DREAMY myself, and MEDLEY even played for a quick second, but I shook it off…BRAVO…Hmm, you’re on your own with that one! I was hoping you’d get a little kick out of seeing Jeff DRAW that DRIVER in the cartoon, but I guess it didn’t have the IMPACT I thought it WOOD! Anyway, the day’s still young PROFESSOR…How about you just SKIPPER past these words and SEA HOWELL the rest of the day goes? 😂 Have a good one, Chuck! 🎨🙋🏻

  7. Hi, all! I loved the Jumble puzzle today. My solve was 3 words easy but self-jumbling 6 times to get REMEDY. I solved the cartoon answer as soon as I quit using BID as the 3-letter word and placed it as the first syllable of the first word.

The painting American Gothic looks to me as though Jeff has replaced the farmer & his wife with David and himself. Am I losing it?
On the TV show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, I saw a man win the million dollars by knowing that the artist had his dentist pose as the farmer. So where’s your million dollars, Angela??? Lol

Enjoy your afternoon & evening, all!!

    • Hi Lelia. It looks like REMEDY is the front runner today, so you’re in good company…I’m laughing, because in the wee small hours this morning I had 3 friends ask me “how the h–l do you know this ridiculous thing about the dentist”? I don’t know myself where I come up with some of these things! Just another bit of trivia stuck up there in the gray matter…😂 And as for my million dollars? Between Shoes and the beating I’m taking with Facebook Stock? It’s down to a mere pittance! 😂😂 Have a good one, Lelia! Enjoy! 🎨🙋🏻

      • Cute answer, Angela, about shoes & stock. I’m sure you knew I was jokingly asking about your imaginary million for knowing the dentist fact that your 3 friends questioned you about. lol

        • Hi Lelia..Yes…Of course I know you’re joking…as I am..Although that Stock really does have us all groaning! Hope you’re enjoying your night! 🙋🏻

  8. Hi all – For the last word, I thought of an actor, Marlon GRANDO, then AGROUND before seeing DRAGON. Thought BID would be the last answer word, but quickly saw BIDDER.

I saw “Tina and Louise” but mistook it for “Thelma and Louise” and therefore expected a even more violent end to the auction. Couldn’t see the painting details until I looked online, then got a big laugh when I realized he was holding a golf club.

What this reminded me of was the “Dutch auction”, where the bids go in the other direction, usually making the process faster.

Angela, you know country music and mid-90’s leaves my wheelhouse in two directions at once, but I have heard Paul’s “Auctioneer” song — but probably haven’t thought of it in about forty years. Good memory, Paul.

Have a great day! Today’s Safeway song from the ceiling, Dire Straits’ “Walk of Life”, possibly another ceiling rerun.

    • Hey G, Funny you mention Thelma and Louise…For hours this morning I had that haunting song that played at the end of the movie going through my head..Like a crying guitar…I cried at the end of that movie anyway….Another thing I’ll need to look up today, the name..And as far as Pauls song? Ssshh..It’s ok. I won’t tell anybody if you won’t!!! 😂😂 😉 Have a good one, Bud! 🎨🙋🏻

    • Hi, Steve! Dire Straits’ “Walk of Life” on my YouTube Google video was good to watch as well as listen to. The lyrics were clearly understandable, the guitars were great, and the performers were having a fun time together. Icing on the cake was the sports footage showing players doing really well & being happy about it, some mistakes, mascots, and cheerleaders. They had several shots of our Phoenix Suns NBA gorilla mascot.

    • Hey Jim ..Didn’t see that at all…And you say it’s happened before? I don’t think I’ve ever noticed…It’s interesting…Have a good night! 🎨🙋🏻
