With the phrase being such a familiar one, that I’m atTUNEd to, today’s puzzle solution leapt right off the PAGE…I then looked at our words, and being all Sweet Repeats there was no chance of falling FLAT…So, on to our cartoon. Today we find ourselves at a BAND SHELL, where a SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA is seen practicing…But there’s been a MAJOR development…Some MINOR setbacks had occurred, and now the group must REED faster, and practice without a REST. Every MINUET is crucial…and they really need to be SHARP. Knowing that they’ll be a lot of SAX and VIOLINS involved, it’s only NATURAL that the CONDUCTOR feels that he’s in TREBLE. But he shouldn’t let it get him DOWN. As long as they all “pull together” and give it a “CONCERT-ED” EFFORT, this won’t be too hot to HANDEL at all! BOOM! Great pun, David! These words may have all been repeats but USEFUL did not jump off the page for me. The solution? Once I separated “EFFORT” from the mix and tuned into the cartoon the answer was there. A clever pun and not overly difficult for Sunday

Good morning. Angela,great use of the words as well as Earl. It takes a lot to come up with that every day. I commend you both. Also a perfect choice on the song. Yesterday I was out the whole day and never even got a chance to look at the paper or the blog. Today was a different story. I had no trouble with the words and went straight down the line,without having to go through them a second time. The cartoon answer took me some time to get but, after assuming the middle two letters were ED and finally seeing Effort for the last word I came up with the remainder. I passed right over the Pewter and Silver star and got the gold. Until tomorrow stay well.

Angela, I attempt a cartoon solve every day before looking at the clue words or circled letters so I am surprised that I needed only an “H” today since I sometimes think of answers that would need many more letters to make them work, or as Steve said, more boxes to put them in. Needing just an “H,” you caught me on a good day. Lol
Hi Lelia. I do that also. But all I meant was that after I “guess” it, I scan over the words. The funny thing today was that there wasn’t an “H” anywhere, in any of the words. Needed letters or not. I agree and like your “great mind” interpretation. I think you, Lelia and I often encounter similar challenges. Some differences may be due to how well each of us remembers clue words that were used previously. I don’t think I have a great memory and often get tripped up by the same word multiple times.

Being up at the 4 yr old twins’ bday party,meant I couldn’t get to the puzzle until tonight.Accrue was troublesome for me as well,but my actually preparing for a concert performance myself,the puzzle hit home.I was originally thinking a practice or a rehearsal,but lacking an h or a p,meant those solutions wouldn’t work,but given 2 c’s concert came readily to mind as did the final solution.

Yes I play performances several times a month,but this one is at a national accordion festival in Lisle,Illinois,for the Accordion Teachers Guild,where I will be 1 of 50 or more accordionists,playing different instrumental parts,eg.trombone part,trumpet part,etc.in an all accordion symphony orchestra.Right about my not doing my daily golf regimine anymore due to some health and physical problems interfering with that activity,and limiting it to a couple of times a week.
Well now you’ve stumped me! I’ve never heard of accordions “playing as” various other instruments. It sounds fascinating and you know I’m going to look it up! I never knew of an accordion festival either…Learn something every day! Well here’s to your success at it 🍷Good luck! Sorry to hear about the limits on the golf game. I have a friend going through a similar thing. Arthritis forced him to curtail play, and he’s having a hard time adjusting to the limitations…He’s still out there, but not as often as he’d like.
