CARTOON ANSWER: TO GET THE SYMPHONY READY FOR ITS BIG PERFORMANCE, IT WOULD TAKE A- –

DOT EF CRE TER FO CN = “CONCERT-ED” EFFORT

Good Morning, Everyone!       🎼 I HEAR A SYMPHONY 🎼

🎶Whenever you’re near, I hear a SYMPHONY each time you speak to me
I hear a tender RHAPSODY of love, love….Baby, Baby, as you stand up holding me…Whispering how much you care,…A thousand VIOLINS fill the air now. Baby, Baby, don’t let this moment end…Keep standing close to me, Oo so close to me, Baby, Baby…I hear A SYMPHONY, a tender MELODY…Ah it goes on and on and on and on now…🎶 “ I Hear a Symphony” The Supremes 1966

🎼 I think we should DENOTE here, that pressure’s surely on,
Time has ACCRUEd and these musicians wait on that Baton…
A FORMAL Concert being planned, no COUPON holding two-fer
This is the one where gold and silver replaces the PEWTER
Each minute proves quite USEFUL, ‘cause they’ll come from every port…
True Patrons of the Arts to hear this “CONCERT-ED” EFFORT! 🎼

With the phrase being such a familiar one, that I’m atTUNEd to, today’s puzzle solution leapt right off the PAGE…I then looked at our words, and being all Sweet Repeats there was no chance of falling FLAT…So, on to our cartoon. Today we find ourselves at a BAND SHELL, where a SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA is seen practicing…But there’s been a MAJOR development…Some MINOR setbacks had occurred, and now the group must REED faster, and practice without a REST. Every MINUET is crucial…and they really need to be SHARP. Knowing that they’ll be a lot of SAX and VIOLINS involved, it’s only NATURAL that the CONDUCTOR feels that he’s in TREBLE. But he shouldn’t let it get him DOWN. As long as they all “pull together” and give it a “CONCERT-ED” EFFORT, this won’t be too hot to HANDEL at all! BOOM! Great pun, David! You always hit the right NOTE!

Ok, eye candy…Way in the BACH, the silhouetted figures? There’s two musicians…One holding what appears to be the STICK to play a WOOD BOX, and the other holding CYMBALS. I just got a little TRILL out of them….So, There you have it Folks, Done. Have a great day, Everyone…And why not make a LISZT today…and get out there and go for BAROQUE! 🎼🙋🏻

  1. FORMAL dress was USEFUL to DENOTE importance while trying to ACCRUE the last COUPON at the charity auction featuring Jefferson’s PEWTER collection.
These words may have all been repeats but USEFUL did not jump off the page for me. The solution? Once I separated “EFFORT” from the mix and tuned into the cartoon the answer was there. A clever pun and not overly difficult for Sunday
Great song choice Angela—love “The Supremes” and never tire of their songs.
Your poem was supreme as well and scaled the highest mountain of phrasing without going flat.
Your puns with BAROQUE and LISZT also scored with this guy today and did not put me into a Brahmsian Lullaby induced fugue.

    • Good Morning, Earl! Love the sentence! Jefferson and the PEWTER! I still have a cup that I brought back from Colonial Williamsburg! That old Serendipity again! 👏🏻Kudos, Sir! USEFUL? Yes, it did SLIDE by a few of my friends this morning too! But this solution? An absoLUTE Gem, and it jumped right out at me. I actually laughed OUT LOUD! Thank you for all your kind words…Much appreciated..My song choice? What else could it possibly be today, right? It was just perfectly ORCHESTRATED! Again, one of those days when the song chose me! And I caught your subtle reference to the “highest mountain” 👏🏻 Very witty! Do you know that I was at that iconic (I know you don’t appreciate overuse of this word..but I really can’t think of any other way to refer to it) CONCERT in “The Park”, where the indomitable Miss Ross performed through that storm? 🎶Oh…What a Night🎶 that was! I remember it so vividly…HOT doesn’t do it justice. Her, that orange jumpsuit, the weather..all of it…HOT! I’ll never FUGUEet it! Love your CONCERT-related puns..And I’d say you, Sir, did a SUPREME job today too! We had a violent thunderstorm before dawn, and it’s still coming DOWN here, but we could use the rain…Hope the weather’s not DAMPening your spirits! Have a good one, Earl, and thanks again! 🎼 🙋🏻

    • Good Morning…I don’t believe I’ve had the pleasure. You know my name, but I’m not sure how to address you, so I’ll go with Bud? Thanks for the Shout Out, much appreciated, and I’m glad you can relate. Please stop by again, it’s always nice to see new faces. Have a good one! 🎼🙋🏻

  2. Morning, all –
    Fun posts, Angela and Earl!
My first thought was that conductor would be in the answer. When that didn’t work, effort popped out. I needed the answer to be able to back into ACCRUE.

    • Good Morning, Caroline! Thank you so much…I had a lot of fun doing it. And Earl just keeps us all smiling, right? ACCRUE? So we have one for ACCRUE and one for USEFUL here so far! Maybe I’ll CONDUCT a poll! 😂 Wishing you a great day, Caroline! Enjoy! 🎼🙋🏻

  3. Good morning. Angela, great use of the words as well as Earl. It takes a lot to come up with that every day. I commend you both. Also a perfect choice on the song. Yesterday I was out the whole day and never even got a chance to look at the paper or the blog. Today was a different story. I had no trouble with the words and went straight down the line, without having to go through them a second time. The cartoon answer took me some time to get but, after assuming the middle two letters were ED and finally seeing Effort for the last word I came up with the remainder. I passed right over the Pewter and Silver star and got the gold. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Hey, Brooklyn..Check the clock…Morning has passed us by!..Good Afternoon! Definitely noticed your absence y’day…I keep track of these things, you know! 😉 I thought today’s words were 🎶MUSIC to my ears🎶 also, easy, breezy. Nice pun for the answer, right? I use the phrase a lot…And yes, you’ll get a Gold Star for today! Whatever you’d like..just let me know! For you, Brooklyn…Anything! 😉 Thanks a bunch for the Shout Out, 😘 You’re a Sweetheart! Hope you’re not building the Ark out there…We’re getting pounded! Good day for catching up on that book! Have a good one, Bud. ☔️💧🙋🏻

  4. Hi all – COUPON took just an extra glance, and I first saw the third word as ACCURE, then realized it wasn’t OCCURE, but ACCRUE. I figured the answer must end in EFFORT and thought ORCHESTRATED EFFORT, so had to write the letters to see CONCERTED.

Angela, I think the guy standing beside Efram Cymbalist Jr. is holding a mallet to play the kettledrums – 🎵“Baby, baby, I hear a TIMPANI.”🎵

    Wishing everyone a great Sunday!

    • Hmm. Some call it a Mallet for the Kettledrums, some call it the STICK for the WOOD BOX. I Googled it! It said STICK…for the WOOD BOX. Do we see a Drum? No. Do we see a Box? No. So, I just made a decision…And Wood Box just TEAKed my interest, so I ran with it. Now Efram will get you a 👏🏻👏🏻and Lou said “thumbs up”. (Well actually he didn’t say it , you know he..👍🏻👍🏻 it)! …And being that we both saw it? We’re both disqualified from trying to use it next time we do “Musical Instruments…and the People Behind Them”! Now THAT’S a topic we really have PUN with! Have a good one, Bud! Talk to you later….🎼🙋🏻

  5. Hi, all! I thought the cartoon answer would be pronounced “harmonious effort” but spelled HARMONY-US EFFORT, with the word US portraying the same “working together/cooperative” meaning that we get from CONCERTED.
I wish all of you a very harmonious day, or as Spectacular Outdoors would say, a day filled with harmony!

    • Hi Lelia…But we had no “H”! Every time I hear the word Harmony, I think of this commercial that comes on ad nauseam here in NY for this on-line dating site, “eHarmony”. Over and over and over…It turned me off to the word..But maybe after today, I’ll try looking at it in a different light…It remains TUBA seen! Have a good one! Enjoy! 🎼🙋🏻

      • Angela, I attempt a cartoon solve every day before looking at the clue words or circled letters so I am surprised that I needed only an “H” today since I sometimes think of answers that would need many more letters to make them work, or as Steve said, more boxes to put them in. Needing just an “H,” you caught me on a good day. Lol

        • Hi Lelia. I do that also. But all I meant was that after I “guess” it, I scan over the words. The funny thing today was that there wasn’t an “H” anywhere, in any of the words. Needed letters or not. That very rarely happens, and I picked up on it right away this morning. I wasn’t judging the “guess” itself. If it seemed I was, you have my apologies! Hope you’re enjoying your day! 🙋🏻

    • At least HARMONY-US had the correct number of letters, unlike my “ORCHESTRATED” effort! 😂

  6. Accrue was the one that took me the longest to solve. I got the cartoon answer first and backed into it. Caroline, I think you and I are on the same page. I often find the same words challenging that you do. Great Mind think alike?? Or struggle alike?? Happy Sunday everyone.

    • Good Morning, Betty! Make it a Hat Trick, because Steve has also joined your ranks! Looks like ACCRUE will be today’s winner! All great words today…Betty, was that you who posted y’day around 2 PM, my time? No name, but the words held your TONE. If not, I should go back and re-address my reply…😉 Here’s to ACCRUE, and you! 🍷Enoy! 🎼🙋🏻

      • Yes, Angela, that was my post yesterday. Don’t know why it posted “Anonymous”. As I’m looking at my reply to you now it appears that my name will appear. Guess we’ll see. All this computer stuff is way beyond my level of understanding.

        • I thought it was you…It happens to Earl sometimes too…I know if you use a different device it’ll happen…Who knows? I think it’s something to do with this site. A lot’s over my head also…I just go along the best I can! Glad it was you! Have a good one! 🎼🙋🏻

    • Hi Betty,
I agree and like your “great mind” interpretation. I think you, Lelia and I often encounter similar challenges. Some differences may be due to how well each of us remembers clue words that were used previously. I don’t think I have a great memory and often get tripped up by the same word multiple times.
I’ve enjoyed reading your posts and insights into the world of medicine. Happy Sunday to you, too!

      • Hi, Caroline! I agree with you about not remembering previously used clue words and getting tricked by them again. There is only one that will never trip me up again and that is the word “icing.”

    • Lelia, your “icing” comment made me laugh. I don’t think I’ll forget that one now either!

  7. Being up at the 4 yr old twins’ bday party, meant I couldn’t get to the puzzle until tonight.Accrue was troublesome for me as well, but my actually preparing for a concert performance myself, the puzzle hit home.I was originally thinking a practice or a rehearsal, but lacking an h or a p,meant those solutions wouldn’t work, but given 2 c’s concert came readily to mind as did the final solution.

    • Hey Prof…Home now? Settled in? I guess you don’t go online then from a mobile device when you’re on the road? Accrue did come out ahead today. Even tho it wasn’t a killer, it did stump a little more than the other words. And the solution was a great pun…So you’re prepping the accordion for a concert? Is that an regular thing, the concerts? I must say, you definitely keep busy…But I am wondering…The golfing? Do you only golf when you’re at home? Since you’ve mentioned more than once that you “only play in days that end in y”, I’m curious…(Although I do think that’s an avid golfers’ pat phrase, right)? Indians and Yanks did a split…I think my count was off y’day. Now we’re looking forward to the All Star game…We throw a big party…And the competition gets tough! 😉 Glad you dropped in, and I hope you’re having a good night, Sir! ⚾️🙋🏻

      • Yes I play performances several times a month, but this one is at a national accordion festival in Lisle,Illinois, for the Accordion Teachers Guild, where I will be 1 of 50 or more accordionists, playing different instrumental parts,eg.trombone part, trumpet part, etc.in an all accordion symphony orchestra.Right about my not doing my daily golf regimine anymore due to some health and physical problems interfering with that activity, and limiting it to a couple of times a week.

        • Well now you’ve stumped me! I’ve never heard of accordions “playing as” various other instruments. It sounds fascinating and you know I’m going to look it up! I never knew of an accordion festival either…Learn something every day! Well here’s to your success at it 🍷Good luck! Sorry to hear about the limits on the golf game. I have a friend going through a similar thing. Arthritis forced him to curtail play, and he’s having a hard time adjusting to the limitations…He’s still out there, but not as often as he’d like. But the clubs are still in the trunk, and he says he has no intention of giving it up yet! I applaud you both! And I look forward to hearing how the concert goes…Have a good night, Prof! 🎼🙋🏻

  8. Google ATG Festival 2017. A you tube video should pop up showing the orchestra playing in last year’s festival.I am playing the ‘tuba’ part in the back row right hand side of the orchestra,as you look at the orchestra.Good luck.

    • Good Mornimg, Prof! I was Goggling around last night! But it was kind of like looking for a needle in an accordion! 😉 Now I have some direction…I’m going to check it out..Thank you! 🎶🙋🏻

    • Ok Chuck…Here’s the thing…I guess you don’t remember me saying how I can’t sit through a rendition of “God Bless America” without losing it?…You should have forewarned me, Sir!…So, these new eyelashes I recently paid such good money for? Let me know where to send the bill! 😉 And here’s the other thing…Amazing! I’d never have thought that such beautiful music could come out of a group of accordions! How do you guys do that? Bravo! Bravo! …Only one problem… There’s three Gentlemen sitting farthest right… to the right of a young boy as I look at the stage… Which one are you? Wall, middle, or outside seat? …Or are you the man left of him dressed in black, as I look at the orchestra? And Beauty and the Beast? Unbelievably beautiful! One of my favorites! I was singing it to the Little Ones just Saturday…Beautifully orchestrated! Your final song…I can’t place the name…but I’m hearing a commercial from years ago, and a Disney tune…and the lyrics..”Be your best, Be your best”, perhaps? Am I warm? I’ll need your help here..Thank you so much for showing me this…Kudos, Chuck!

      • Looking to the stage from the audience, I am immediately left of him or as he and I face forward lookIng at the audience I am right of him.
