HHN   ULL   AGN   TTO   OII   FRE   =   IN IT FOR THE LONG HAUL

Good Morning, Everyone!                 🚛  KEEP ON TRUCKIN’, BABY 🚛

🎶 “Ah, breaker one-nine, this here’s the RUBBER DUCK... you gotta copy on me, PIG PEN, c’mon?” “Ah, yeah, 10-4, PIG PEN, fer shure, fer shure. by golly, it’s clean clear to flag town, c’mon. yeah, that”….”Big 10-4 there, PIG PEN,  yeah, we definitely got the front door, GOOD BUDDY, mercy sakes alive, looks like we got us a CONVOY”…Was the dark of the moon on the sixth of June, In a Kenworth  pullin’ logs, Cab-over pete with a reefer on And a jimmy haulin’ hogs…We is headin’ for bear on i-one-oh ’bout a mile outta shaky town I says, “PIG PEN, this here’s the RUBBER DUCK, And I’m about to put the hammer down….’cause we got a little CONVOY, rockin’ through the night…..Yeah, we got a little CONVOY, Ain’t she a beautiful sight? Come on and join our CONVOY….Ain’t nothin’ gonna get in our way.  We gonna roll this truckin’ CONVOY ‘cross the U S A….CONVOY! …🎶

🚛 A truckers life, a double-edged sword, at least it seems to me,
The hours long and tedious, but there’s that sense of free…
The road is quiet and open, at least all through the night…
Till morning traffic comes along and brings congestions’ fight.
A trucking AGENCY may own the rig that they sit up in,
So most all rigs return at end to that one point of ORIGIN.
But others that have toiled hard and bought a rig brand new…
Sit FREELY in those trucks bearing their name like a TATTOO
I guess it’s like a PULLEY, something always drawing them in,
And calling them to hit the road…another trek begin.
I saw a truck just yday, it looked big as a boat…
And on its side the logo…large in brown, “Burger-She Wrote”…
With a HYPHEN separating the Burger from a pen…
And I laughed, cause it was clever, like the show from way back when.
And I looked up at the trucker, nodded, feeling oh so small…
Wondering if he was one of those IN IT FOR THE LONG HAUL! 🚛

BREAK..ER, BREAK..ER? No..they didn’t! Maybe the slightest half tic at ORIGIN, but the rest? DROVE right through. Old favorites. In fact, would you believe PULLEY was here just two weeks ago today? That was a surprise! Anyway, without any  STOPping…lets GO on to the cartoon’s solution! Today we find ourselves on the OPEN ROAD, seeing two LONG HAUL TRUCKERS, talking to one other by RADIO. The dialogue tells us that one of them is a 40-YEAR VETERAN of the ROAD, and he’s in no hurry to hang up his CB. It’s definitely his CAReer…So, with our question asking us what he was…He was…IN IT FOR THE LONG HAUL! BEEP BEEP! Good one, David…You’re definitely the KING OF THE ROAD! Ok, eye candy…TRUCK, blue, TRUCK, red…Two CARS, one gold, one green, each going in a different DIRECTION…Nothing much to WORK with here…Except for the staggered LINES noting the CB RADIO’s communication…it’s a quiet RUN…I think I’ll just DRIVE it on home…So, There you have it, Folks, Done! Have a great day, Everyone! And ….🎶Just keep on TRUCKin‘…🎶 🚛🙋🏻

FYI: SITTING OUT ON THE BOAT EARLIER, SUN REFLECTING OFF THE WATER, MY FRIEND LOU NOTICED THESE..1 – He said that little smidgen of a item on the Veterans dashboard is the ubiquitous Hula Girl Dashboard Doll…2 – His Grill? Dead mosquitos stuck to it…And 3– (YES, 3)! The trucks emblem shows it to be a Kenworth Truck… (Which is mentioned in the opening song, 🎶CONVOY🎶 )…Boy, did I drop the BALL BEARINGS on this one, by claiming no Eye Candy today! Maybe I need to sleep BEFORE I tackle the puzzle…It looks like the nights of partying and doing it BEFORE the sleep isn’t always the right ROAD to take! 😂 CAP off to you, Jeff…🎶 I shoulda known better with a guy like you…🎶 Great details, 👏🏻 Bud…Kudos! 🚛🙋🏻…And a Kudo to Lou3!

  1. The HYPHEN in the TATTOO AGENCY name had its ORIGIN, FREELY speaking, in an over-sized needle which took a PULLEY to place on the marquee.
The only clue word to slow me down was FREELY, and that’s ridiculous, given LY is often seen in English words. The rest? A snap, as was the solution, in spite of all those circled letters which intimidated me at first.
Your song is very appropriate with all the CB references, Angela. I don’t remember this one but I do recall others in the period when CB radios were ubiquitous on major roadways. Are they still? I don’t drive very much on Inter-State highways or know any truckers, so I am ignorant. It would seem with all the new technology, other ways of communicating on the road would be more popular?
Like your poem and I agree that there is little eye-candy to comment on today.. Later I’ll check out the cartoon in colour and see if I can find something worthwhile to point out.
BTW: The name of the TATTOO AGENCY? HYPE-ODERMIA.

    • Good Sunday Morning, to you Earl. Yes, it is a snap, a truly MIDDLE OF THE ROAD puzzle! Not meaning to blow my own HORN, but I found it as easy and breezy as could be…or CB! And seeing PULLEY again, after just 2 weeks really surprised me…As for the color…nothing to DYE for! Aside from the 4 vehicles, the rest is shaded gray, with even the inside of the cabs shaded all in blue. In answer to your question, yes, CB’s are still in use by the Long Haul Tucker’s, but as you’re pointing out, not as much as they were back in the 70’s. The use of cell phones today makes everything so much easier. Thanks for the Shout Out and the Poem Nom. I think this may have been the hardest rhyme I’ve ever had to create so FAR. The words are great within themselves, but in regards to trucking? Quite a STRETCH! Almost DROVE me crazy! 😉 Major Kudos 👏🏻👏🏻 to your sentence…one can truly picture the POINT you intended to make! 😉 And our song today? It’s 🎶CONVOY🎶, the CB’er’s National Anthem back in the Hey Day …Yes, there are some other ROAD songs out there, but this was the be HAUL, end HAUL when it came to TRUCKERS! And not wanting to sound like a broken RECORD, but again? If you were to Google it? You’ll chuckle at the memory! The RADIO STATIONS played it so often back then, it became as welcome as ROAD kill! You’ll see! I LOL at your TAT Choice! 🤔Good one! My friends and I, the Luigi Board played a round of TATTOO Parlor names a while ago…I offered “Not Your Grandma’s NEEDLE POINT”, “GRIT and BARE It” and “🎶It’s INK..POSSIBLE”…🎶 I ENDed up winning the night with the last one…And you want to talk about groaners? We NEEDLEd one another for days afterward! Have a great day, Sir…Sunday’s..Made for Reflection, Relaxation, and Lasagna! Enjoy! 🚛🙋🏻

    • Hi Earl – I love that you included the agency’s name! You’re always a STICKler for details!

    • Earl…I hope you see the FYI I posted, RE:your “something worthwhile to POINT out” ..(I missed that one of yours too)! THREE pieces of eye candy…that were esCHEWed! 😂 I must have had the BLINKERS on this morning! My friend was in the DRIVERS SEAT with this one! He PICKed UP on it, and POINTed them out to me! Hope you’re having a great day….🚛🙋🏻

  2. Sun multiple words usually are troublesome for me,but not this morning, not even hyphen. Then with the multiple word puzzle ,I was slightly overwhelmed, but “in it for the long haul” came into mind in a flash.I guess being at home getting my early morning paper delivery was just what I needed.

    • Good Morning, Chuck…I know what you mean.. You look down at the answer with all those boxes, you get a little gun shy, right? But it was a breeze! Like you, the phrase just popped right into my head. Then I looked at the words,..and home free! 😉 Glad you’re getting to relax, and I think the early morning solves are the best too….Hope you enjoyed yourself at the parade, and I hope today’s a perfect Stay-At-Home-Sunday for you…Enoy your day, Sir! 🚛🙋🏻

  3. Easy time of it today. Figured out the clue words and cartoon answer without any difficulty. It’s a gorgeous day here so hope it’s sunny and pleasant in your part of the world. Happy Sunday to all of you.

    • Hi Betty – You thought we had an onslaught of medicine and needles here lately? Earl’s just getting started!

    • Hi Betty Agree..An easy GO of it today…Beautiful here also. Down by the water..Just enjoying the SUNday! Happy Day to you also! 🚛🙋🏻

  4. Good morning morning. Will read later tonight and try to find time to do jumble. After mass went to the youngest ones new house. Take care.

  5. Hi all – I wouldn’t say this was easy, but I lucked out on the hard words. Just happened to recognize HYPHEN, and I’ve been tricked often enough by words with ACY that I saw AGENCY. FREELY took me the longest; go figure. Wrote the letters and got the answer from the cartoon.

    Got your ears on, Angela?
🎵”Driven every kind of rig that’s ever been made”🎵
🎵”All the deadhead miles, and the insincere smiles”🎵
🎵”I locked my doors, the sun went down
    Said goodbye to Boston town
    Mass turnpike to Route 15
Take me on down to the New York scene
Hummin’ of the tires it sure is pretty
Thinkin’ ’bout the women in New York City.
And Hey!, I’m on the road again
Now I can’t stop more than just a few minutes
Baby tell you ’bout my love for you, hey hey hey!
    I’m on the road again
I hate to go: I just can’t stay—
Gotta make it to Atlanta by the break of day, and then
Hey! I’m on the road again”🎵

I’m in this cartoon, driving the VW Bug behind the truck on one of three cross-country trips in the 70’s. Fun to get behind one of those big silver milk tankers and watch yourself drive along in the reflection. They were lots of fun, especially because it was in the summer. Have a great day, everyone!

🎵Well I’m so happy that, I could flip
Oh how I’d love to, take a trip
I’m sorry teacher but, zip your lip (Sorry Lelia!)
    Because it’s summertime

It’s time to head straight for the hills
It’s time to live and have some thrills
Come along and have a ball
    A regular free for all

It’s summertime summertime sum sum summertime
    Summertime summertime sum sum summertime
    Summertime summertime sum sum summertime
    Summertime – It’s summertime!”🎵

    • !!!!! Was Peet offering Double SHOTS today? 😂…And you know my EARS are ALWAYS on…🎶 On the road again…just can’t wait to get on the road again…The life I love is makin’ music with my friends …And I can’t wait to get on the road again…🎶 The Legend…Mr.Willie Nelson…The true DOUBLE SHOT 😉Man! If I have time, I’m going to look and see if FREELY gave you a GO the last time out too…Have a good one, Bud! 🚛🙋🏻

      • 🎵”Got a woman that I’m lovin’, I believe I’ll leave her
Cause I never been to Denver or the West Coast either and HEY,
I’m on the road again”🎵 Good old Tom Rush 😂😂🙋🏻‍♂️

    • Hi, Steve! Thanks for the shout-out of zipping my lip as a teacher in the summertime! I LOVED when I got a break from talking loud enough for the kids in the back row to hear me because that was hard on my vocal chords.
Summertime to me meant doing fun things with our daughters & Jerry: going to Splash Down with a variety of water slides, going to movies, sleeping in, playing games, going on vacation to Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, or Universal Studios, camping in the pines, panning for gold, going fishing, and visiting my dad in Texas. We made a game out of not accidentally saying the “S-word” which was “school.”

      • Hi Lelia! If that had been us, we would have gotten a free punch in the shoulder for saying “school” by mistake. One of my favorite things was that there was an amusement park where you could pay a flat rate on Thursdays and then ride almost everything for free. Went several times during the summer. Used to finish a round on the Dodge-em Cars, run right back around and get back at the end of the line. Two or three lines of duckpin bowling on the way out, a great day for a kid!

      • Ah, the Dodge-em Cars. Nothing like the smell of high-voltage electric ionization and grease in the morning!

      • HI, Steve! I loved hearing about your fun summer activities at the amusement park with a lot of rides, the Dodge-em cars, and learning that’s where you did your duckpin bowling you told me about. The Dodge-em cars sound to me like a real “guy thrill.”

        • Hi Lelia – They did have duckpin bowling at the amusement park, but I most often bowled in an actual kid’s league at a real bowling alley. I would ride my bike there on Saturday mornings when I was about, I don’t know, maybe 10 to 14 years old, something like that. That’s where my pinball addiction started too, 5¢ a game. The owner knew all our parents, and even took the league on a trip to the Bronx Zoo one weekend.

    • Hey G. Found FREELY used twice in the past.,.But both times before you started posting here. 🚛🙋🏻

  6. Hi, all! I solved the cartoon answer after solving only one word, PULLEY. I also thought the word TATTOO was easy but not the other four.
Have a very happy Sunday, all!

    • HI Lelia. I think we all agree that the answer today was a give away. Not a detailed puzzle, but the words were good. Hoping you’re having a happy Sunday, too! Enjoy! 🚛🙋🏻

    • I got an email about the 40th anniversary of the discovery of Pluto’s moon Charon in 1978 which showed the original photographic plate with a tiny blob of a few extra pixels that triggered the thought that that slight bump on Pluto’s sphere might actually be a moon. That was more obvious than the tiny fuzzy splotches that indicate the hula girl and dead bugs when I blew up the Jumble picture. Pass along my congratulations to Lou on his eyesight and deductive powers! 😂🙋🏻‍♂️

      • ROTFL! ….Steve, you had me for a minute here! I’m reading this and thinking…”Huh? Where’re we going with this”? 1978? Pluto? I figured you were hitting those organic grapes again…!!😂😂 He went to sleep last night..(this morning..)! And I figured, what the hey..Let me throw it up, in case I fall out…especially since it was such an easy solve…And I was surprised that there was nothing at all to see! And then here he goes before..I see him sitting there SHH…and he gives me that side eye! And I was like…”What”? Too funny! Yep, I have to give it to him…I mean the mosquitos? But there they were..and did you look? You can even see the wings! SMH! Maybe the Hula Girl could be iffy, but he’s got to be right there again, because they are ubiquitous on those truck dashboards! And as far as the emblem goes? He knows trucks…I’m lucky I keep my eyes open when we’re passing one! LOL…Yea, he done good, and he gave you the nod just now…You know…he accepts your kudos…😉 (He’s the humble one of the group, and also right now he’s engrossed by the lasagna)! LOL…Anyway..Did you see the Yanks got swept? By Tampa Bay of all teams! Swept??! SMH..🙋🏻

        • No, I didn’t see that Yankee result. Just an anomaly, I’m sure (like the blob on Pluto 😂) I think we’re going out and then I’ll watch the recorded Giants game, so catch you later! 🙋🏻‍♂️

          • Yea, like the blob! 😂 SMH! Enjoy your outing…Later.,Ciao, Bello! 🙋🏻

            • Hi Angela, just starting the Giants game.
This is a great story about how that moon got its name – the punchline’s at the end! 🙋🏻‍♂️

Tradition allows a moon’s discoverer to suggest a name for the new satellite to the International Astronomical Union (IAU). Christy wanted to name it after his wife, Charlene, known as “Char” to friends and family. “I’m always thinking about physics, electrons and protons,” Christy recalled. “I added an ‘-on’ to it and said I could name it Charon.”
While wondering whether the name Charon would be approved, Christy checked the dictionary and found “Charon” was actually a real term — the mythological ferryman who carried souls across the river Acheron, one of the five mythical rivers that surrounded Pluto’s underworld. With that, he knew the name would be a perfect fit for a companion of Pluto and made that linkage known to the IAU, which approved the name Charon.
“A lot of husbands promise their wives the moon,” Charlene Christy said, “but Jim actually delivered.”

              • Isn’t the punchline always at the end? Is there a punchline with the punchline? 😉
