Happy Monday, Jumble fans! Jeff and David gave us an unusually difficult puzzle to start the week and I couldn’t have been more excited. All of the clue words were old favorites with PIATOU being my pick for the most difficult anagram of the day. We last saw it on 1/07/18 where it was jumbled as APOUTI. After trying several different letter combinations on my notepad, TOPUIA finally brought it into view which allowed me to move on to to the cartoon.

Today’s panel featured four elephants somewhere in the wild and they seem to be constructing a foot bridge. Three of them appear to be males with a lone female in the bottom right-hand corner. She’s carrying some vines which are perfectly coiled around her left tusk while the other three gather logs of wood. After reading the dialogue and sentence, it’s not known why they’re building such a structure so perhaps it’s irrelephant. What we do find out is that they’re working in perfect unison to complete the task which was key to the final solve.

The surprise answer was a mammoth 12-letter Jumble which contained a hyphen and quotation marks. It seemed intimidating at first, but by noticing the -ING ending right off the bat allowed me to eliminate 3-letters. TUSK came into view next leaving a simple jumble of MULTI for the finish.     🐘 Teak wood with its golden TINGE is costly and it’s rare,
    The trees are found in Asia, UTOPIA’s forests there…
    The wood is logged by elephants, it’s TIMELY and precise,
    These animals called Loggers, help their owners set the price.
    It’s arduous work, a “SKUNK” to man, so that’s why they are used,
    There’s talk that these here elephants may possibly be abused…
    My outside furniture’s made of Teak…I love it when it’s dusking…
    But now I may be sitting there…with my mind “MULTI-TUSKING”! 🐘

    Monday morning, and get a LOAD of these words! Not real BEASTS, but perhaps a slight bit of a BURDEN, although Sweet Repeats all. We’ve seen three of them this past July, August, and October, and UTOPIA showed up as recently as January 7th…and almost SINGLE handedly ruined an otherwise PERFECT wintry Sunday morning for a few of us! Anyway, with them all TIED UP, let’s move on to our cartoon…Today we’ve encamped within the Rain Forests of Asia. I’m going with Myanmar. Mainly because MY-AN-MAR friend decided we just liked the sound of it! Ok..So, we see a team of four ELEPHANTS, working together. Three males, one female, and she’s VINE with the odds. For generations, people of Myanmar, the KAREN MAHOUTS, raised these elephants. Yes, I said Karen Mahouts! And no, it’s not irrELEPHANT! So, what’s a Karen Mahout, you may ask? Oh, you’re KNOT? Hmm…Now that could be a WRINKLE…Well, FOR REST of you? I’ll explain…First, the pronunciation. KAH-REN, with the emphasis on the second syllable. MAH-HOWT, again, emphasis on the HOWT. These people train the elephants they breed to work as Loggers; either alone, in pairs or in teams. They roll and lift logs of teak wood for export…Small logs, big logs…The bigger logs can be rolled by two elephants with their trunks, and lifted off the ground by three elephants using their tusks and trunks. Can you see where I’m going with this? IVORY one of these elephants performs more than one TASK with those TUSKS! So, with our diaLOG questioning the ELEPHANT in the GLOOM…Our statement is asking what were the elephants doing? They were..”MULTI-TUSKING!!! Get out, MAHOUT! How cool is this? A MASTERful pun, David…WEIGHT to go!

    Ok, eye candy…Forest-Green, Elephants-Gray, Wood-Brown…Not exactly a Tropical Candy Store, is it? Best I can SEE? The EYES on the elephants. Exasperated, angry, beWILDered…CROSSED!…This one right off the list…So, There you have it, Folks…Done! Have a great day, IVORYone! And I hope you’ve enjoyed what you’ve HERD here today…Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to PACHYDERM TRUNK, and TEAK away….🐘🙋🏻

  3. The woodland UTOPIA had a TINGE of parfum a la SKUNK, so we deemed it wise to make a TIMELY retreat.
    Clue words were no problem, even UTOPIA was an instant solve. The solution? Gave me fits! Went away, came back and finally saw TUSK. Then remembering those dreaded Quotation Marks, came up with the answer. Very clever.
    Thanks for your thoughts Mike. I was also puzzled by the footbridge.

  5. Good morning. Not being gender bias. I didn’t give a thought as to the elephants sex. “Just having fun”. If memory serves me correct Mike, your school duties are done. Hope your children enjoy their summer break. Here in Brooklyn we have another week to go. Thank you for a great post. Could that lone female elephants name be Angela by any chance? I can see her being in charge of all those males. Great song choice Angela and an interesting short story. We can count on you every single day as well as Earl. In fact I give you both a 👍🏻up. Regarding today’s words,they were no problem with just a tic on Utopia. After a few seconds it popped into view. When I saw the cartoon answer I just took the high road. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • You’re correct, Paul. It’s the first day of summer vacation and it’s going to be a hot one here. The weather channel said 94 degrees! They’ll for sure be doing a lot of swimming. 🙂

      Was it too many snow days? Other districts in our area get out later this week.

    • Ah, Brooklyn…🎶The Things We Do For Love…🎶. Luckily, I love you, Bud, so I’m turning the other TUSK!…Because otherwise?! An elephant? Sacre bleu! Or Gray! I’ll have you know, my Good Man, that 1- I’m not short and stout..I’m tall and WILLOWly, like these TEAK trees once were..and 2- I’d never wear flat shoes like that out in public! 😂 And I don’t think the poor little creature’s in charge…She just seems to have gotten herself TIED UP with the wrong crowd…But, anyway…I do Thank you for the other Shout Outs…and yes, I am sometimes in charge.   6. Some tricky words this morning, UTOPIA being the toughest. The puzzle was surprisingly easy given the hyphen and quotation marks.

    Our teams played a good series, Mike, and I was satisfied with the split. On to NY, then at you again at Fenway. Now if someone could please beat Houston!

    • Those were some great games, John, and your Mariners are playing just fine w/o Cano.

      Our announcers tried some of the fried crickets that are a delicacy at Safeco Field and they were gagging on tv! Funny stuff!!!

      • Crickets!!?? Good grief, there’s no way I’d ever want to see an INSECTINSIDE my nachos! You gave me a good mental picture of vendors hopping around the stands chirping, though. 🏏 😂🙋🏻‍♂️

        • They said that they’re a delicacy and they sell out quick. I’m wondering if John can shed some light on such an odd snack or perhaps let us know if he has tried them before. 🦗

          • Mike…The Crickets are being sold out by Steve, at the Alameda Coliseum. He may not even realize it. Seattle’s serving up Grasshoppers….And both places are calling them “delicacies”! Six of one, half dozen of the other? I’ll stick with the gourmet food at our Ball Parks! Or at worst, the hot dogs! They may not be Nathan’s but they’ll beat bugs any day! 🌭🍝🙋🏻

  7. Utopia tripped me up this morning as it did in the past. Took me a while to get the cartoon solution. Figured it had to end in “ing” but the rest of the words did not fall into place right away. Really good challenge for a Monday morning. Have a good day everyone and happy vacation to all the children out there. Our schools begin in August and most of them begin vacation the end of May or beginning of June.

      • No, not in San Francisco. Hotels and office buildings, especially the newer ones have air conditioning but our homes, with few exceptions, do not. We rely on the fog to cool our homes. That’s why we whine and moan so when we have our few “hot” days a year. We simply wilt if it gets much above 70 degrees in S.F.

  9. Hi all – TINGE actually took me the longest. I first thought PATIO, but noticed that wasn’t enough letters, got UTOPIA only because I sort of remembered getting stuck on it before. I figured TUSK must be in the answer, and eventually got it when I saw that ING was also there.

    Other than that, not much to say about the cartoon, so have a great day and see you tomorrow!
