Four young boys, accompanied by two scout leaders I presume, are shown at the entrance to a CAVE. Knowing that exploring can’t be boring, our dialogue is telling us that the key thing so FAR is guaranteeing no one hits their head, as they line up SINGLE FILE at the LOW entrance… And that they will all need to DUCK in order to ensure this. Two tics this AM–LUNACY and INLAND. Words with prefixes often cause problems and today was no exception. I had the solution before I finally got that word. Clever word play and no quotation marks–which give me apprehension. Thank you Puzzle Makers.

It was an automaTIC solve for me across the board, and I’m thinking it shouldn’t be a problem, especially since it’s a very common phrase. But, we shall see. INLAND was featured here on March 6th-17, but LUNACY goes back to December 2015. And I giggle, because you have mentioned your displeasure dealing with prefixes before! But you prevailed! Thank you so much for the Shout Out, and the Poem Nom, greatly appreciated. As for the cartoon, I did wonder if there was another leader already inside…or were the two shown “Guinea pigging” these poor boys! So much to ponder! 😉 Either way, the cave’s MAMMOTH enough for me! I’m not that big on digging into the unknown. Although I have known a few “cave men” in my time…(Dated one or two also…but that’s a story for another day of exploration)! 😉 I’m loving your sentence, especially the use of Cupola. It’s a wonderful and rarely heard word, and I’ve used it in a piece I wrote about the “widow’s walk”. Thanks also for the compliments, they are always appreciated. For some reason I could not remember how to spell cupola and had to look it up today. I know the word because many older homes along the Erie Canal have them and the story goes they were built so people could see the barges in time to go to the canal and either sell or buy.

It is a little dated, but she’ll always be the Queen of Soul. Google the song. The minute you hear the opening bars, I’m sure you’ll recognize it. I very much love the look of the homes that sport cupolas. A lot of the old brownstones in Brooklyn seem to have architecture reminiscent of them also. Look up the “widow’s walk”, it’s fascinating. As for the cavemen? Earl, don’t get me wrong. I appreciate a little “caveman” with the best of them…In fact, I seek it out…😉. But you know how it goes…Moderation with everything. Good Morning, Caroline. I’ve had 3 people besides you tell me the same thing this morning. That the phrase came to them immediately, but they felt it didn’t “fit”. My best thought is the “DUCK”ing ones head to enter the cave, combined with seeing the boys lined up “single-file”…in a row. It is a bit of a stretch, but it’s very funny and very clever. Yogi IMO, “mis” spoke volumes! And I wonder how much of it was him just pulling our legs. Hi all – LUCKY led to LUNACY. The double letter trick worked for SWOON (thanks for the tip Clay), and INLAND took a second glance. Then the answer popped out so quickly, I actually started looking for the ducks in the picture, before realizing it was a great pun.
That’s right scout leaders. Send the kid in first to see whether there are still any bears hibernating in there. If there are, they’ll rename it “Karl’s Bad Cavern.”

Jerry and I have enjoyed many caves. The last one we visited was Kartchner Caverns right here in Arizona not too far from us in Phoenix, near Tucson. When the children were little we loved Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. The elevator took us down about 1,000 feet. Wow! There was a really big room way down there called… the Big Room.
Steve, thank you for your gift to me of the heavenly pre-nap song, Crystal Ship, sung by The Doors. What a lovely lullaby. The instrumentals were wonderful, too, but nowadays when certain instruments can sound like many different instruments, I didn’t know whether or not some of the peaceful sounds I heard were piano.

Well Lelia, that song isn’t nowadays; it and the album it’s on were recorded in 1967 (amazingly!), when people had to actually sing the right notes and play their instruments.. Although there were a few oddball things like Theremins, Melotrons and Leslie speakers, and studio tricks, the Doors’ Ray Manzarek usually did play piano with his right hand and a bass keyboard with his left.
Steve, thank you for verifying my hearing the piano in Crystal Ship, a sound I love. In solving the Jumble today, I, also, said DUCKS IN A ROW before getting the pun. A week ago while Jerry & I watched ice hockey with a friend, he asked me which team I was for, and I told him that I was still rooting for the Toronto Maple Leafs to let him know that I’m not up-to-date on ice hockey. I can’t remember which team you hoped would win the Stanley Cup. Tonight Jerry will be rooting for the Golden State Warriors. He watches only basketball & football at home.
Hi Lelia – I couldn’t lose with the hockey. I said that if the Sharks couldn’t win, then I would like to see Vegas take it to make history. But when Washington’s Alex Ovechkin got so close after trying for 13 years, it would have been cruel for him to lose again, and you could see he was ecstatic.

Hi, Steve! I ran in here for a quick peek. Now I’ll run back to tell Jerry you are rooting with us. One of the Warriors’ games was won in the last 5 minutes beginning with a spectacular 3 point shot and one game was won in the last 2 minutes so we have learned that it ain’t over ‘till it’s over.
The Warriors are so good tonight, they disproved a cliche. This game ain’t over — but it’s definitely over!

No, I can sympathize with the opponents. The Warrior fans suffered with bad teams and a terrible owner for forty-some years since their championship in around 1975,so we know what it’s like, no need to rub it in.
