UYPPP = PUPPY

SGIDET = DIGEST

SCUURK = RUCKUS

CARTOON ANSWER:

THE CHEF WHO WAS A PART-TIME RACE CAR DRIVER DROVE A CAR THAT WAS – – –

OEPPDSUU = SOUPED UP

Good morning everyone, and happy Saturday! Both of the 5-letter clue words were a piece of cake and solved instantly upon first glance. DIGEST took a few extra seconds to figure out and wound up being my pick for the most difficult anagram of the day. We haven’t seen it in the lineup since February of last year so it was nice to have it make an appearance once again. And finally there was RUCKUS which didn’t cause a fuss like its definition implies. Finishing all of the clue words in a flash was a pleasant treat so I raced over to the cartoon to see what Jeff would amaze us with today.

The setting for today’s panel is a racetrack where we see a man and a woman having a conversation. The giant spoon in the background quickly caught my attention so I read the sentence and dialogue to figure out what the heck was going on. It turns out that the woman is a chef/race car driver and she has just finished up a race. The sponsor of her whip is Happy Spoon so perhaps it’s also the name of the chef hat wearing mascot that we see lurking in the background. I must admit that Happy Spoon looked pretty creepy when I first noticed it standing there but it quickly grew on me the longer that I stared at it.

Does anyone have a clue what the “17” on her vehicle stands for? Nothing came to mind for me but I’m sure Jeff chose it for a reason. Knowing nothing about race cars or the sport, I did some research on NASCAR numbering and was surprised to learn the methodology behind the numbers and how they’re issued. Drivers can’t just randomly take ownership of a certain number as all numbers in the sport belong to NASCAR. Drivers and racing teams can request a certain number but they ultimately decide to whom it is issued. Wanna trade or sell your unique number to another team? Don’t even think about it because NASCAR will boot you from the sport and seize your number immediately!

The surprise answer came instantly after writing out all of the clue letters. The layout was a sublime Jumble but the answer was just too obvious after slurping up all of the visual clues. SOUPED UP was a soup-er finish but the overall ease of completion left me hungry for more. Have a sensational Saturday, and I’ll see you tomorrow!

  1. ๐ŸŽถ I dug my key into the side of his pretty little SOUPED UP four-wheel drive…Carved my name into his leather seats. I took a Louisville slugger to both head lights, I slashed a hole in all four tires…Maybe next time he’ll think before he cheats…๐ŸŽถ

    ๐Ÿฒ๐ŸŽ She’s sponsored by a “Happy Spoon”, it gave away the answer…
    The soup is featured on her car…the little spoon’s a prancer.
    A bowl’s emblazoned on her suit, it’s piping hot we see,
    A chef who drives a racing car….a piece of work, this she!
    The man shown with her, who is he? He looks quite fit and trim,
    His PUPPY eyes look envious, he’d rather it was him…
    The atmosphere seems confident, the OZONE level low…
    If this car runs the way it should she’ll definitely steal the show..
    Her driving’s easy to DIGEST, just as is what she cooks…
    She causes quite a RUCKUS, and it’s not from just her looks.
    Let’s hope she proves a winner, like the soup that diners sup…
    She’s driving with much confidence ’cause her carโ€™s been SOUPED UP! ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿฒ

    Our first three words today, are old favorites and easy breezy. Ruckus, I was unable to find in the Jumble listings, but that’s doesn’t necessarily mean it wasn’t used before. And like its name, I think it may cause a bit of a disturbance. Whether or not it SLOWed you down, remains to be seen. Having FINISHed with our words…I RACED over to our cartoon. Today the Jumble brings us to the BACKground of a RACETRACK. We see our race entrant, ACCELA RATE, discussing her car with a man whoโ€™s hard to identify. At first I thought he was a part of her PIT CREW. But if he was, why would she need to be telling him that “we” put a TURBO ENGINE into the car? Wouldn’t he already know that? Then I thought him to be a REPresentative for “HAPPY SPOON”, the SOUP company that’s sponsoring her, but since he’s wearing a cap, I think it would stand to reason that the company name would be emblazoned on it. So it kind of STOPped me in my TRACKS. He is dressed as a workman of sorts, in blue from head to toe, but I just can’t PLACE him. Perhaps Jeff can SHOW us the WAY. The search for a female Chef-Race Car Driver CONNECTION also came up EMPTY, since the only people I could find with these dual career MOVES, were men. Realizing that I may just be SPINNING MY WHEELS here, I’m choosing to MOVE on, and once again call on Jeff to give us a BRAKE and hopefully set us on the right TRACK.

    The third figure Jeff’s drawn for us is a SPOON, the logo for the SOUP company. The car featured in our cartoon, having that TURBO ENGINE under its hood, in RACE CAR jargon, is considered to be SOUPED UP. And there we have the answer to our BURNING RUBBER question…She drove a car that was…”and coming AROUND again….” SOUPED UP! Now that’s a WHEELy cute pun! Good job, David.

    Ok, eye candy. HAPPY SPOON is holding a small RACING flag…CHECK โœ”๏ธ. We see two rePLACEment tires. But let’s keep ROLLING. ACCELA’s holding the required Simpson Helmet, in yellow, to match the car. Nice touch, Jeff..HATS off. We see three vessels of SOUP drawn, but I’m not BOWLed over. ACCELA is dressed in gold. We see the number 17 written three times on our car, but since there are such strict rules about number PLACEment within RACE CAR driving, I’d rather COUNT that out. So, It’s pretty clear that the SPOON is PLACEd to play a big part of our SETTING. HAPPY, featured in white, is shown on the top and the side of our car. He’s also emblazoned on the front of ACCELA’s suit. Jeff’s UTENSILized, I mean utilized him well…But I’ll tell you where I’m GEARed to go…In the depiction on the car, and on ACCELA’s suit, Jeff has drawn Happy’s legs extending from the bottom of the ROUNDed STRETCH of the SOUP handle. And yet when we see him standing beyond the car, he’s drawn more as a Human figure, with the body opening into legs. And I can’t help but FOCUS on it. It’s not DRIVING me crazy, but it has LEFT me wondering. So, There you have it, Folks, Done! Have a great day, Everyone, and it’s Saturday! START YOUR ENGINES! ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿฒ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

  2. There was a worried RUCKUS when the PUPPY could not DIGEST her food due to a traffic jam raising the OZONE level in the kennel.
    No problem with the clue words or the solution—rather easy for a Saturday puzzle I thought.
    I know next to nothing about racing or race cars but had no trouble figuring out that SOUP and SOUPED would play a key part in the solution. The two Ps also helped.
    Thanks for all the observations and your song, Angela—always look forward to your thoughts.
    Busy day ahead so I’ll check in later to see how others fared.
    Have a safe Saturday everyone and be grateful for all you have.

    • Good Morning, Earl. Thank you, and Kudos for your sentence. Very easy time of it today, and the SOUP spoon just dished it out for us! Enjoy your day, Sir! ๐Ÿฒ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

        • You’re very welcome, Chuck. I think you’ll be ok. LeBron at home is…Well, LeBron at home! I’m a big believer in “home field” advantage. You’re sleeping in your own bed…Let’s just hope some one feeds those Boston Boys real good before they hit that court, so they won’t be so damn hungry.!! ..๐Ÿ˜‰. Again, Good Luck, Sir…I’ll be rooting for you…๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

  4. I agree that this was an easy Saturday, with RUCKUS taking a bit longer. I saw suckur first but knew it was spelled wrong. Wishing all a fun weekend.

    • Hi Caroline. ๐ŸŽถEasy as ABC..๐ŸŽถ Maybe it’s alphabet soup! Have a good one! ๐Ÿฒ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

    • LOL…Biut did you bet the race? ๐Ÿ˜‰ I hear ya, John…Somedays it just don’t pay to get outta bed! Have a good one! ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

  7. DONE! First I read the sentence and quickly said โ€œCooked Upโ€ but knew I could do better. After easily solving OZONE AND PUPPY, the two Pโ€™s gave me SOUPED UP. I had to digest the first set of 6 letters twice to get DIGEST, and the last set of 6 letters caused a tiny little, short lived RUCKUS in my brain three times.

    Wonderful day at the dermatologist yesterday because she knew just what to do. Using a little tool that looked like a very small pocket knife, she cut big chunks off the large, hard, white dead skin callus core on the bottom of my foot, which stuck out quite a bit and continued down under the skin, until she had removed every single bit without cutting or hurting me. With sock & shoe back on, I stood on that foot with no pain for the first time in weeks. Yippee!
    Then she checked the site of the nose surgery and said it looked fine.
    Then, just when I thought I was getting away easy, she used liquid nitrogen on the very top of my nose and burned a big blister where she saw something โ€œsuspicious looking.โ€ It makes me laugh to tell that. I am used to liquid nitro on my fair skin.

    • Thatโ€™s cold, literally! ๐Ÿ˜‚ My doctor calls it โ€œgetting out the blowtorch.โ€

    • Hi Lelia. . Sounds like you could use some of that “Happy Spoon” soup after all that! Hope today is going much better! Take care. ๐Ÿฒ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

  8. Hi all – Only RUCKUS caused extra time because it was so slang-ey.

    Iโ€™m sure our chef/driver has a โ€œHeart Like a Wheelโ€ and Iโ€™m also sure she had to FORK over a lot of cash to get that turbo installed on the Happy Spoon, but now she can really DISH it out, and it was worth it to be able to stand on the gas and shout โ€œSo Long, SUCK-URโ€! (You โ€œBeat Me to the Punchโ€ line, Caroline ๐Ÿ˜ƒ). Sheโ€™s sure to take first PLACE, SETTING a track record.

    ๐ŸŽตWell the girls can’t stand her
    ‘Cause she walks looks and drives like an ACE ๐Ÿ˜‰ now
    She makes the Indy 500 look like a Roman chariot race now
    A lotta guys try to catch her
    But she leads them on a wild goose chase now.โ€๐ŸŽต

    Hope everyone has โ€œFun Fun Funโ€ with all thatโ€™s happening today – Royal Wedding, the Preakness, NHL playoffs (will they cause a PUCKUS?), NBA playoffs, etc. I need a nap just writing all that!

    Earl also beat me to the punch, but Iโ€™ll post my sentence anyway:
    โ€œThey should have paid attention when the PUPPY caused a RUCKUS over his new food, because he found it so hard to DIGEST he damaged the OZONE layer.โ€

    • Hey G. One day last week, the Lous and I went to a friend of theirs house (is that butchered English, or what? Where’s Earl when you need him? Eh, I don’t care..it’s Saturday)! to see a beautiful old T-Bird that he’s restoring…And the whole rest of the day the “needle was stuck”…And now you’ve pulled me back in! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Altho, let’s face it, I doubt this girl’s got Daddy calling the shots! Watch out for Lightning striking tonight. TB…..determined! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Have a good one, G….๐ŸŽ๐Ÿฒ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป
      (PS: Unless you move…won’t Earl always beat you to the punch? Just sayin’)? ๐Ÿ˜‰
