2. 🎶 BICYCLE, BICYCLE, BICYCLE…I want to RIDE my BICYCLE, BICYCLE, BICYCLE…I want to RIDE my BICYCLE…I want to RIDE my BIKE…I want to RIDE my BICYCLE…I want to RIDE it where I like…🎶

   🚴🏻 You know how sometimes in your head you’ll hear this little voice?
   And phrases may come into mind…you really have no choice?
   When something that’s material inevitably ends its stay…
   I always hear my Grandmother’s words as she would sweetly say…
   Words meant to comfort, dry my tears…as Grandmothers often do,
   And she would hug me and then say…”It’s better that than you”.
   So I couldn’t help but think this when this cartoon I did find…
   And the peacock PLUME of love I carry for her came to mind.
   And I FIGURE it applies here ’cause this bike’s seen better days,
   If you TALLY up the money spent, she’s better off this way.
   And she’s ready now to give ACCORD…”Ok, just trash it, Michael…
   I hate to say “Goodbye” but yes, it’s ended its LIFE CYCLE”! 🚴

   Looking at todays words, they SPOKE to me immediately. Easy, breezy, all old favorites. I was PUMPED. But then our cartoon kind of THREW me OFF BALANCE. Today, Jeff brings us to a BICYCLE repair shop. That’s BICYCLE…B I C Y C L E. And if you’re thinking…What the “L”? Hey, we’ve all been there. And WHEEL be there again..So, I’m not RIDING you Jeff. I’m just callin’ ’em as I see ’em. I can only imagine what a vicious CYCLE it must be doing this day after day…and what a hard BALANCE it is…So, putting the PEDAL to the “METTEL”…our cartoon. We see our girl, WINona RYDER, finally admitting that her BIKE has reached a PATHetic state. And she’s telling Michael, the shops’ SPOKESperson, that yes, she’s GEARed up for that final SPIN. Let’s face it, Folks, the time has come…But I think she’ll be ok. And there’s always a CYCLE-logist should she need help GETTING OVER THAT HILL. Sure, it hurts, but she’ll do her best to RIDE it out..Oh no, wait..she won’t RIDE it out… Because this BIKE is…at the end of its LIFE CYCLE! Good one, David! WHEELIE good one! We can always tRUST you to ROLL OUT a winner! Ok. Eye candy. I like the details on WINona’s BIKE…The GEARS, the PATCHES on the WHEELS, the BRAKES, the SEATS adjustment valve, the worn out PEDALS. I like all the extra WHEELS and TIRES…And I like the look on Michael’s face…like he just can’t get a GRIP on how old the BIKE is. Hmm…I just don’t know today…The SUSPENSION is getting to me, and I just can’t decide…Maybe I’m just too TIRED…Or maybe I just need a SIGN…

3. Good morning. Thanks Mike for all the information. We miss so much when you have to use a magnifying glass to try and see all the hidden treasures. Most of the time I forget to really look at the drawing. Angela,you shocked me deeply. I darn near fell out of my chair. You said the words spoke to you. Are you saying your Easy and Old.??Even in today’s modern times one does not wish to be known as easy!! Just to let you know I’m having fun at your leisure. Great job as always. Today’s puzzle again seemed like it was a Monday. No problem with the words or cartoon. After writing down the letters the answer appeared right away. Until tomorrow stay well.

4. Her chapeaux with the ostrich PLUME was in ACCORD with the fashion sense of some but a TALLY of frowns showed that it was time to FIGURE out a new look.
   I also had no problems with the clue words or the solution—CYCLE was obvious from the dialogue and caption LIFE CYCLE made perfect sense.
   I am loathe to admit this but my mountain bike is nearly as ancient and decrepit as Winona;s (Clever nomenclature, Angela) and will shortly be replaced. I’m waiting for my niece’s partner to assemble the new one and bring it to me. I’ll miss the old red one but repairing all the faults would cost more than the bike is worth. So the cartoon hit home with me.
   Mike—thanks for your post and drawing my attention to the spelling error—missed that. I also appreciate your “century not decade” point—very clever.
   Angela–your poem is redolent (in a good way) of thoughts from your childhood .It brought back memories of my first two bikes—I had to ride cross-bar on my brother’s bike to get to school until I was old enough to have my own two-wheeler. And then an English bike with skinny wheels and gears to ease going up hills!! What fun.
   I’ve already praised your naming the woman in the cartoon but your pun with psychologist struck me as especially brilliant and fit in perfectly with my feelings about my old ride.

   • Good Morning, Earl. 🎶Where do I begin….🎶 First off..(First off? SPOKEn like a true Brooklynite)? …your sentence is what’s brilliant! It’s putting me in mind of all the fascinator hats we’ll be seeing next week at the Royal wedding! Some of them take your breath away…some of them take your breath away because you’re choking at the absurdity! I can’t wait to be privy to it all! (How’s that for a bit of Brit speak)? 😉 Secondly, once again, I can’t thank you enough for your kind words. And I’ll make you laugh. One of my “Core Four” friends reads these comments “once in a while”. (Or so he says). The other night, at one of our “Luigi Board” sessions, we were doing royalty. I made a quip about an Earl, and he said…”Apropos, because you got a new Prince”! (Note the use of the word “got”)! I do think he’s jealous! 😂 But I digress. I only went with Ms RYDER because I named Michael. And I only went with that because I was hard pressed to rhyme Cycle. (But I did give myself a chuckle at the RYDER)! 😉 The thought of the poem truly came to mind immediately when I read the cartoon. My cousins and I to this day repeat the phrase whenever something breaks or stops working. Childhood memories are worth their weight in gold, don’t you think? It keeps the light of our pasts alive in all of us. I really enjoyed your “Wheels Tales”, and I’m glad I was able to evoke a fond memory for you. As for the psychologist pun? It struck ACCORD with me too! When my very first cherished “two wheeler” got scratched because my cousin rode it into a brick wall, I cried like a baby…Then Grandma said…”Better the bike got scratched than —“. …Humph! Not so much this time…I still cried! 😉 Thanks again for your shout outs, and I wish you the bestest day, as my Littles would say! 🚴🙋🏻

6. I’m with Caroline. I figured out “figure” only after solving the cartoon answer. I can’t decipher the sign on the window. It’s too small in my paper and even the magnifying glass didn’t help much. Happy Thursday everyone.

7. Hi all – I thought PLUM before PLUME, and I happened to be thinking about TALLY stick – humankinds’ first evidence of mathematics – regular lines scratched into an animal bone. The two ‘C’s went together for ACCORD, and this was the first time Mike’s trick of reading the letters backwards worked for me, enabling me to FIGURE out the third word faster than I would have otherwise. Thanks, Mike!

   I thought that surely Angela or Earl would beat me to this, but I guess it’s up to me to surmise that Winona will commission a BESPOKE replacement bicycle from Michael.

8. Puzzle was no problem except trying to make lytla into lately,rather than tally.

9. Hi, all! The spinning wheels in my brain gave me a swift solve of LIFE CYCLE and the first 3 words, but I backed into ACCORD.

   I remember when we had four 10-speeds; dad, mom, and 2 daughters. The girl in the picture is either Jeff’s beautiful daughter or one of our two. I have a picture of Jeff with a son & daughter in some almost empty bleachers, and all 3 of them had happy, healthy, intelligent faces with wonderful, friendly smiles. Looks like one of our family pictures.

   I got my first bicycle for Christmas in third grade. When my uncle visited during the holidays, he said, “O.K., Lelia Ann, let’s see you ride that new bicycle!” When I said that I had not learned yet, he took the bike & me into my grandmother’s huge front yard, held the back of the seat tightly with a big strong hand, and told me to pedal. We had gone the width of that yard only two times when he let go, and I took off on my own.

   • Hi Lelia – It’s appropriate to use your term “Song from the ceiling” at Safeway today because I’ve been meaning for awhile to recommend this to you – the song was “Mushaboom” by Feist – Leslie Feist, who also did “1-2-3-4” – about a woman living in an apartment in the city who dreams, literally and figuratively, of owning a place in the country.

     • Hi, Steve! Thanks for the song/video of Leslie Feist. I flew in my dreams when I was young but rather than wearing a beautiful white dress, I was dressed like Super Woman.
       I have never heard of Feist but enjoyed the show and plan to look up all the lyrics of that song and the other one. Boy, that one woman surely wanted to pull her back to earth but that’s hard to do with us dreamers.
       The first time I said “song from the ceiling” you said you were going to use that expression, which pleased me very much, but today you called it my expression. I prefer to call it “our expression” to use at will. Thanks.

       • I also like her “My Moon, My Man” and “Honey Honey”. The latter, my wife finds way too creepy and scary but I love it. Must be my New England seafaring heritage. It was done with a Canadien puppet group and won a Canadian Juno award for video of the year. View at your own risk.

   • I got my first big bike,a 26″, on Xmas day in Ohio.I took it out for a spin on the next day,in the old icy back alley,crashed,scratching the bright red bike.

11. Well I cannot wait any longer to wait and see if anybody spotted what I spotted. The artist misspelled a word in the shop name. My guess is he did it on purpose because if spelled correctly it is in the puzzle answer! I feel smug!!!
