CARTOON ANSWER:

AFTER ASKING THE JUMBLE ARTIST TO HELP HER GET ON “THE PRICE IS RIGHT,” HE – – –

AECERDRWY = DREW CAREY

Happy Tuesday, Jumble friends! We have an excellent puzzle today with a combination of brain teasing clue words as well as a cartoon that is top notch. With just a quick peek at the cartoon, I knew instantly what the answer was going to be. It wasn’t because I’m a Jumble genius, it’s because I’ve actually seen this cartoon before while doing a bit of research on another puzzle. I don’t want to get ahead of myself, so let me break down the clue words for you first.

ABIDE required just a moment of pause before coming into view. The 3-vowels were a small hurdle to contend with but luckily the “A” was the first one that we encounter in the layout. The next word also contained 3-vowels but for one reason or another it instantly came to mind. RUDDER ended up taking a considerable amount of time to work through and is my pick for the most difficult clue word of the day. David did an excellent job of throwing me off track by doubling the R’s in the middle of the anagram when it was actually the D’s that needed to be together to arrive at the solution. That left SWAMPY for the finish which was just as easily deciphered as OUNCE. With all of the clue words wrapped up, it was time for my favorite part of the puzzle, the cartoon!

If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you probably recall that I mentioned less than a month ago that Jeff created a t-shirt for his friend who hoped to be on the The Price is Right television game show. Well Jeff’s amazing cartoon worked and his friend Lissa Sears was chosen to play the game! I’m not sure how far she made it so perhaps one of you will be able to fill us in.

What’s interesting about this cartoon is the fact that you actually see Jeff’s full body. Most of the time we see him seated in a chair where his lower half is not visible so it was really cool to see him “full size”. The drawing of Drew Carey was over the top and you can really see the extra effort that Jeff put into his piece. The detail of the wheel was exceptional with each dollar amount clearly visible. The only part of the drawing that had me scratching my head was trying to figure out if Jeff was holding a pencil or a paintbrush. There’s no eraser on the end and no bristles at the tip. Either way it makes no difference and I was content just staring at his work and admiring such a fine masterpiece!

Have a terrific Tuesday, and remember what Bob Barker used to say at the end of every episode: “Help control the pet population. Have your pets spayed or neutered.”

  1. Good Morning, Mike. I like the conclusion you DREW here! πŸ™‹πŸ»

    • I know that the cartoon sentence says he β€œDrew Carey” so it must be a pencil. Maybe his pencil doesn’t need an eraser because he never makes mistakes like I often do. πŸ˜‰

      • Mistakes? HA! You’re preaching to the choir! We’ve all been there…in fact, I have a standing reservation…and I’m not ashamed to admit it! I’m not sure what he’s holding…We don’t see see any paint..who knows. Maybe it’s a marker? As you said, hard to tell…but whatever it is, he sure put it to good use! πŸ˜‰πŸ–ŒπŸ™‹πŸ»

      • Sorry I left you out Mike. The information you give every day is valuable. Forgot about the tee shirt drawing that he did for a friend.

      • Since it has neither bristles nor eraser, maybe by force of habit he used his regular Apple Pencil. πŸ€” That enormous magic whiteboard must be *really* expensive, though. πŸ™‹πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

  2. 🎢 What goes up must come down…SPINNIN’ WHEEL got to go ’round..Talkin’ ’bout your troubles it’s a cryin’ sin…Ride a painted pony let the SPINNIN’ WHEEL SPIN…You got no money and you got no home, SPINNIN’ WHEEL all alone..Talkin ’bout your troubles and you never learn…Ride a painted pony let the SPINNIN’ WHEEL turn…🎢

πŸ’― Today we’re seeing Lissa Sears, and Jeff and then there’s Drew
And those who watch “The Price is Right” know what that wheel is too..
It’s called simply The Big Wheel, it’s a segment on the show…
I’m not a fan but looked it up for those who need to know.
Of course there’s rules you must ABIDE and money’s to be won,
And people get excited, so I guess it must be fun…
But daytime TV’s SWAMPY, it can suck you in real quick,
You’ll get lost in the shows offered, it’s sometimes hard to pick…
Like a RUDDER on a boat or ship, these shows make your head spin,
But the game shows are the ones to watch…to see the people win.
Since Sears is such a big fan, every OUNCE was hoping for
A chance to meet Drew Carey, get her foot into that door…
So Jeff made her a T-Shirt, she asked…he didn’t tarry,
For his good friend he got his ink, and happily…he DREW CAREY! πŸ’―

Totally captivated by today’s cartoon, I had a hard time taking my eyes off it this morning. So by the time I looked at our words, I felt like I’d already hit the JACKPOT! And except for wondering if Dave STEERed us in a new direction with RUDDER, I SPUN right through them, 1-2-3. Ok, back to our cartoon. Today, we see Jeff, and his close friend, Lissa Sears. If you’ll remember, she was featured in the Jumble cartoon of April 17th, when Jeff brought us to ZANIES, the Comedy Club. On April 2nd, with Jeff’s help, Sears excitedly went on “The Price is Right”. Being a STAND UP comedian, and wanting to STAND OUT on the show, she asked Jeff to create an image for a T-Shirt that she could wear… And he came through with flying COLORS! I’m just wondering though…is that a paint brush? Is that a first? Maybe Jeff can SHADE some light…Anyway, if you follow Sears on Twitter, you’d have seen the shirt when she tweeted pictures of herself wearing it that day. A black shirt, the photo shown here was on it, with the letters EYDWEACRR beneath, followed by Jumble circles with the answer: DREW CAREY. But there’s a big difference with the pic Sears featured…Lucky enough to get up on stage and meet Drew, he was kind enough to sign the shirt for her. And as he got down on one knee to do so, he also asked Sears to the prom! Now is that a PRIZE or what? But I digress…Back to our cartoon. Our question is asking..What did Jeff do after Sears asked him for help? He DREW CAREY! PLINKO! Drop the mic! No, not you, Drew, I meant David! Or is this all Jeff today? Either way? Really good one! And now, let’s SPIN THE WHEEL for some eye candy…Despite the real shirt showing Jeff wearing red, and Sears white, our cartoon has them in gold and pink. Jeff’s shirt reads WILCO, the name of the Chicago based Alternate Rock band that’s one of his favorites. Sears shirt features the Breast Cancer ribbon, which she is often seen wearing. And being a survivor herself, she’s a staunch supporter, even while also battling MS. Drew, unfortunately is shown in shades of gray and white only. But since I can’t allow the actual shirt to OVER SHADOW the image shown here, I guess I’ll go with the Big Wheel. It actually shows the numbers that coincide with the CENTS amounts, with the needle landing on the $1.00 slot. Jeff, you fill me with a SENSE of awe! Great details and a great job. You definitely DREW us a WINNER today! So, There you have it, Folks, Done! Have a great day, Everyone! And may we all come out WINNERS in the end! πŸ’―πŸ™‹πŸ»

    • Hope getting the solution didn’t cost you too much BLOOD, SWEAT and TEARS! πŸ˜‚πŸ™‹πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

      • LOL..No, G, piece of cake! I DREW a bead on it immediately! Been a long time since I went to BS&T, though. Pulled them out this morning. I don’t know why I don’t listen to them more often..But there’s just so much music…πŸ™„πŸ™‹πŸ»

  3. ABIDE With Me, the sailor pleaded as he threw every OUNCE of his strength into controlling the RUDDER to avoid the SWAMPY inlet.
Great details this morning Mike–I had forgotten about the T-shirt drawing. I don’t watch The Price is Right so have no idea if Lissa did well or not.
Angela—great song, great poem and the puns are pretty pointillistic—a word I just coined–run out of superlatives for you.
Off to the National Women’s Hall of Fame with friends. Have a good day all.

    • Thanks, Earl! Your sentence amazed me today as the material to work with was on the challenging side. You make it sound effortless!!! Enjoy your day. πŸ™‚

    • Good Morning, Earl Pointillistic! And without a fight from auto-correct! It’s in the dictionary! Thank you so very much, Earl, you have me grinning from ear to ear! And I shall return the compliment with one of my own. This may be one of your best efforts so far. The sentence is absolutely brilliant! I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with Swampy…It really BOGged me down this morning! I didn’t get in until late last night, so if you haven’t seen it yet, check ydays page. I left a reply for you and Paul around 2 this morning…How great you’re going to the Hall! It’s on my Honey Do list. You know..”Honey..Do you think you can take me there”? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I’m hoping to go soon…Enjoy the outing, and thanks again. I hope you have a great day!πŸ’―πŸ™‹πŸ»

  4. Good morning. Angela, you totally captivated me with your choice of song and your repertoire. I’m giving you two of your own words back because you deserve praise. Speaking of praise,You nailed a tough sentence with the words today Earl. You have a gift with words. Today’s puzzle was fairly easy with a slight hesitation on abide. Everything else was an instant read. When it came time to the cartoon answer,I didn’t pick up right away that the drawing was of Drew Carey. Once I realized it the answer was obvious. Great cartoon from beginning to end. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Ah, Brooklyn…You ole’ Sweet ❀️ Talker, you! Thank you, Bud, very much. And I’m not sure, but if one of the words is captivate? You do the same to me! Keep telling those stories, Paul. I keep thinking the ones from the movie theater alone must be golden! So tell me, Bud…Did you carry the flashlight??? Hope you’re having a good one! πŸ”¦πŸ™‹πŸ»

  5. I knew that this puzzle would have a backstory and that I would learn about it here either from Mike, Jeff or David. You did not disappoint, Mike!

No blind solve, but the clue words were a breeze, with RUDDER being the easiest one for me. Swapping the d’s and r’s just seemed so obvious to MY eye. Therein lies the attraction of this franchise; you never know how solutions will come to you or others. If I may get my geek on, this is why I always like reading how others solve the words and puzzles.

    Until tomorrow.

    • I’m glad I managed to live up to your high expectations, John! And please keep that geekiness flowing. 🚰

      A RUDDER day, a RUDDER puzzle! πŸ€“

      • A RUDDER day, a RUDDER puzzle??! πŸ˜‚πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»!!! πŸ™‹πŸ»

  6. Abide caused me to pause, and ounce seemed familiar. As far as the solution,I was thinking carried away, rather than Drew Carey as I didn’t recognize Drew’s picture.Being from Cleveland, and knowing Drew was a Cleveland Rhodes HS grad,I should have recognized him.BTW Lebron and the Cavs swept Toronto in 4 straight after struggling w the Ind Pacers.

  7. DREW came to mind quickly but I had trouble with the second word of the answer. I did think of Drew Carey, but does the Jumble use proper names in its answers? I looked on the internet and discovered that the word CAREY appears in some dictionaries, though not mine. .

  8. Hi all – It took an extra look to see SWAMPY. The answer had to start with DREW, but I needed the letters to remember CAREY. Hey, I’m a geezer; when I think β€œPrice Is Right”, I don’t even think Bob Barker, I think Bill Cullen.

Thanks Angela and Mike for all the inside info. It really makes things more interesting and enjoyable!

πŸŽ΅β€C’mon CAREY, get out your cane
    I’ll put on some silver.β€πŸŽ΅

    • PS – RUDDER was instant from the many hours of building model airplanes with my aviation-obsessed brother.

      • Rudder Is a given too because of boating. It didn’t seem to TURN anyone’s head…πŸ™‹πŸ»

    • 🎢Oh you’re a mean old Daddy…but I like you fine….πŸŽΆπŸ˜‰ Don’t we all? πŸ˜‰..You’re welcome, G. Have a good one! πŸ’―πŸ™‹πŸ»
