Good morning everyone and happy Monday! Looking back at the clue words from last week, NARYCN, MIWYSH and LMHAYN were the most searched for answers. It’s interesting that all of the words had a “Y” in them and CRANNY & WHIMSY were both given to us on the same day. “DUEL-Y” NOTED was the most searched for cartoon surprise answer making last Friday’s puzzle the most challenging of the week.
This mornings clue words were all old favorites and perfectly suited for a Monday puzzle. OUTAGE did require a couple of extra seconds to work through so it’s my pick for the most difficult anagram of the day. The fact that it had 4 vowels to work with made it difficult to find a starting point but once I found OUT, the rest was no trouble at all.
Moving on to the cartoon, we see two men tinkering away in a workshop of sorts. The man on the left is holding a folded paper airplane while the seated man on the right works on what appears to be a glider wing. Reading the dialogue we discover that the two gentlemen are actually the Wright brothers and they were last featured in a Jumble cartoon exactly 3 months ago today! I remember doing quite a bit of research on them the last time they were in the Jumble so I’ll skip the history lesson today and move straight to the details that Jeff packed into his panel.
Orville is easy to identify in the cartoon by his moustache and Wilbur is the balding gentleman on the right. I thought that Wilbur looked a bit like James Taylor while staring at the piece bringing his hit Fire and Rain to mind. In the back of the room we see a bicycle tire leaning against the wall. Before their aviation milestone they actually opened a bicycle rental and repair shop in 1893. My favorite detail was the poster on the wall just above the tire. In the upper-right corner of the poster it says “FLAP REAL FAST” and depicts a man getting ready to jump off a cliff. The arrows indicate that the winged flyer would soar down and then pull up quickly to land in a standing position. I thought it was funny that Jeff showed the man with his hat still on after the jump!
The final solution was a piece of cake with all of the visual clues in the drawing. The “W” in the letter layout stood out like a sore thumb bringing WING to mind. Crossing out the letters, IT came into view leaving the -ING suffix for the finish. The splendid cartoon was definitely the highlight of today’s puzzle and I can’t wait to see what David and Jeff have in store for us this week. Have a marvelous Monday and I’ll see you tomorrow!

A lot of discard came and went, the OUTAGE of ideas…
The blood and sweat of working, and I’m sure there were some tears.
But after all the trying, one day it all just fit…
And Orville and his brother Wil could now stop WINGING IT! ✈️
Monday morning, new week, but not new words. And except for maybe OUTAGE, one of those pesky compound words, I think we should feel pretty GROUNDED…AlWRIGHT? AlWRIGHT! So, let’s GLIDE over to our cartoon…Today, we’re TRANSPORTED back to Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. I say back to, because the Jumble brought us here on February 7th. So, in reality, this is a RETURN FLIGHT. And, as I stated then, there’s so much good information on line about the WRIGHT BROTHERS…feel free to REVISIT HISTORY, if you’re so INCLINED. We see ORVILLE and WILBUR WRIGHT, the inventors of the first successful airplane, as they work on understanding FLIGHT. And keep in mind, this was no FLY BY NIGHT operation…Working every day, with a very CONTROLLED determination, these guys were serious, and they had all the WRIGHT stuff to PATENTly succeed. Our dialogue tells us that in an attempt to perfect LIFT OFF, they went through a lot of trial and error, and our question asks…What could they often be seen doing? WINGING IT! Good one, David! PLANE as day! Ok, eye candy. We have Orville’s mustache, but we’ve HANDLEd these so many times before, and his suspenders, but they really don’t HOLD UP…And LOW and beFOLD, he’s holding a paper AIRPLANE..How cute is that? But even though it’s inCREASEed my interest, it’s just not the WRIGHT thing. There’s Wilbur’s pocket protector…very cute touch, but not quite the POINT I’m trying to make. He’s wearing a visor, but it’s not BALD enough…On the desk, we see a scissors and some paper that Wilbur used to create his prototype wing…but they’re not CUTTING it either. And PROPped up in the background, we see a spoked wheel…But, I’m TURNING my attention to the drawing on the wall…It depicts a man, in a bowler hat, grasping onto WINGS. Now “this” may FLY…Because if you look real closely, you’ll see another tiny picture of the little man UP in the corner, holding the same WINGS, and preparing to jump! There’s arrows drawn, that indicate than he would, and then come back UP…and the whole time? His hat would remain intact! Talk about a FLIGHT? A FLIGHT OF FANCY, if there ever was one! But, the piece of RESISTANCE? Written within the frame are the words “FLAP REAL FAST”! HA!! Now does that LIFT your spirits or what? It just CARRIED me AWAY! So, There you have it, Folks! Done! Gizmo is such a great word! Agree with Mike that outage was tricky, though I found the second syllable first for the solve. The surprise answer was quickly evident with the letters written down.

Good morning. Never got yesterday’s jumble and by the time I was able to get in via the back door I decided to skip it since it was late. Today’s puzzle was no problem with only a slight pause on Gizmo. The cartoon answer was an instant solve when I wrote down the letters. Nice job Mike and Angela. Until tomorrow stay well.

Outage tripped me up this morning as it seems to do every time it appears … All those vowels!! However the answer was straight forward so was able to figure it all out. My book group read “The Wright Brothers” by David Mc Cullough last year and it was a fascinating read. They were both very unique and interesting men. Happy Monday everyone.

Gizmo was a snap for me as well,but outage gave me trouble as I was trying to make it into goatee.The solution w the W’s and ing was no problem.

Hi Mike et al! Not my usual minute or two Monday solve but definitely quick & easy. GIZMO was a fun word for me, as was WHISK. I needed 2 extra looks at WINNER but OUTAGE took me 5 self-jumbles including dugout, tongue, gator, and ageout.

Hi, Mike! I finally got well, glory Hallelujah! However, because I finished reading all of last week’s comments over the weekend, I was heartbroken to read the sad news about your bees. I send my condolences to you and your precious son. I read the sweet words of sympathy to you from our Jumble group and your kind replies. I am so sorry that the man insisted on your taking the bees when you knew it was too cold for them.
I’m glad that you have ordered more bees so you and your son can try, try again.
There are billions of bees in the world to see,

Well good morning, Lelia! It was a busy weekend here with the bees being picked up late Saturday. It rained Sunday so our instructions were to let them sit overnight in a cool area (my garage) and put the frames in early Monday morning. Mission accomplished, but they were extremely agitated and one stung me on my right eyebrow. Not too painful, but it does itch.
This time around we purchased a nuc that had 5 frames instead of just a box of bees. The difference is that a full nuc comes with frames that have both brood and honey well underway making for a stronger hive. My fingers are crossed that this attempt will accomplish positive results.
I’m so happy to hear that you’re feeling much better! I apologize for not responding to your earlier comments but please know that I thinking about you this weekend and sent positive thoughts your way.
My wife often asks if I’ve “heard from the woman in Arizona” and I enjoy telling your amazing stories during dinner. I plan on sharing your wonderful poem with them this evening. I’m sure my boy will think it’s a hoot! He really enjoys anything that rhymes so I’ll have to commit it to memory because there’s no doubt he’ll want to hear it over and over. 😊

Hi, Steve! Thanks for your affirmation of my feeling better! What a relief! Late Friday, my 6th or 7th day on 500 mg Amox, 4 times a day for 10 days, I had no appetite and weighed only 101. I got rid of the Amox, had a better appetite on Saturday and yesterday, Sunday, I ate every 2 or 3 hours and weighed in at 104. I just remembered today and am telling you the detail so I won’t forget to do it next time, my old PCP gave me 250 mg Amox THREE times a day AND for only 6 days. He has passed away and I have given up asking my current PCP for 250 mg, but I think I’ll do fine next time with his 500 mg only 3 times a day for only 6 or 7 days but not 10. Thanks for listening!!
