CARTOON ANSWER: AFTER THE DUTCH STARTED MAKING WOODEN SHOES, STORES WERE – – –

G LO DC GE = CLOGGED

Good Morning, Everyone!              👡 “KLOMPEN” AT THE SAVOY…..👡

🎶 WOODEN it be nice if we were older?…Then we WOODEN have to wait so long…And WOODEN it be nice to live together, …In the kind of world where we belong…? Oh, WOODEN it be nice…? 🎶

👡 The store will not be “crowded”, if that thought had crossed your mind,
There’d be no pun or play on words, or “W” to find…
Of course the answer’s obvious, and the idea is real cute,
A wooden shoe is called a clog, or else it’ll all be moot.
A line is GOING out the door, the LOBBY full to brim,
The owner of the shoe store? What a boon this is for him!
You’d think he’d blow a GASKET, to keep up with demand,
But no, Roel’s a happy man to have these shoes at hand.
Would you believe he named the store quite simply “AS A RULE”?
He got a leg up on the trend, this Roel…he’s no fool…
A leather shoe, when it got wet, the sole would just DETACH,
But not with these new wooden ones…the idea on he latched….
So now the orders pile up, and records are back-logged,
And “AS A RULE” is stepping up…The store is always CLOGGED! 👡

GOING, GOING…”WEG“! And no, it doesn’t rhyme with LEG, although how FITTING would that have been? Actually, it rhymes more with MEH with a bit of a “K” sound at the end…But since this is SOLEly a Jumble Blog, and not a BRANCH of Berlitz, we must move on. So, will today’s words have you STOMPING your feet,? WALKING on eggshells? TREADING water? No…Ok, maybe DETACH might leave you feeling a bit left out, but I’m sure you connected. We’ll move on…Our cartoon. Today Jeff brings us to HOLLAND, where David has laid the GROUNDwork for a very cute pun. We see a SHOE STORE, and the salesman, who I’ve named ROEL, a good old DUTCH name. His store, “AS A RULE“, is bursting at the SEAMS, since he began making and selling these new WOODEN SHOES, called CLOGS. With the main selling PLATFORM for the shoe being that your FEET won’t get wet as they might with leather shoes, Roel can’t make them fast enough! So many SHOES, so WHITTLE time! And WOOD you believe the crowds? We see four female customers, with a fifth one at the door, and a SOLE male customer. A DUTCH UNCLE, perhaps?  We could almost hear Roel saying…”STEP right up, Folks, there’s always ROOM for more. C’mon, we can FIT a few more in here.” HEEL really make a lot of GELD today! (And for the record, that means money in DUTCH, and it’s pronounced as FELD! Again, how FITTING, no? “Oh, these new WOODEN SHOES FELD just great…”). Hmm…So, our question asks…What were the stores..? They were CLOGGED! WONDERBAAR, David! The solution’s a real SHOE IN! A regular DUTCH TREAT! Ok, the eye candy…There are all the DUTCH CAPS or BONNETS, (with those elaborate WINGS),…but they won’t FLY. There’s the requisite WINDMILLS, but I’m not that much of a FAN…I’m going to go with the SHOE BOX in Roel’s hand….It’s a WOODEN Box, and he’s shown saying that the SHOES are SPLINTER PROOF! I SPLIT my sides laughing over that! And WOODEN SHOE just love to have that box? So, There you have it, MENSEN, Done! Have a great day, Everyone! And remember, don’t take any WOODEN NICKELS, you can get IN DUTCH that way 👡🙋🏻

  1. Good morning. Beach Boys for the lead in. Good choice Angela. Thank you for your everyday brilliance. Only had a slight tic on Detach and when it came time for the cartoon it was a shoe in at first glance after seeing the letters. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Good Morning, Brooklyn. Thank you! I know you guys enjoy the Beach Boys, so I had you and Moose in mind when I went with it…. The PAIR of you! I’ve always liked them, and anyway, they fit with the weather we’re being promised for the next few days…I did dabble with.🎶SHOE fly, don’t bother me…🎶, but I felt the Beach Boys were SOLE much better…And we may be RIGHT…DETACH could be the tic of the day…If not, we’ll be LEFT in the lurch…SHOE 👏🏻 IN? 😉 Yes, it was…Bud, yes it was! Have a good one, Paul! Take a WALK in the sun! 👡🙋🏻

      • Good Morning Angela ! 😉 I noticed another spelling error **WCATHD – DETACH ** Have a great day !! 😉

        • Hi Steve. Where’ve you been hiding, Dude? Thanks again. I just made the correction. But you do realize they’re typing errors, not spelling errors, right? Whatever! 6 of 1, 1/2 dozen of the other! An error’s an error! Mea culpa! So, it’s Steve Steve now? Did you think I wouldn’t recognize you? The pup’s a giveaway! 😂 No, seriously, I’ve been on the lookout for you. And you know as soon as I saw your comment, I started wracking my brain trying to remember your original screen name here…That’s what took me so long to reply. Well that and the fact that I’m wrestling with a piece of veal shank for my Osso Buco. But I know I made a note of it somewhere, only I can’t find it now….All I’m coming up with is 🎶Stormy Weather🎶! Steve, am I warm? Gimme a hint..!! 😂 Glad to see you, and thanks again! Don’t be a stranger…🙋🏻

          • Solarstormz was my other email/user Id so yes you were very warm in deed !

            • …and yet now you’re coming up Anonymous! LOL..Well at least I got it half right! 😉 I knew there was a storm in there somewhere…My head is crammed with so much, I’m glad I remembered part of it. And thanks for assuring me that I’m not completely gone…not yet anyway! Have a good one, Steve. 🙋🏻

        • Steve. ROTFL…I just realized something…You know what’s really ironic? I opened up my poem by saying that the store couldn’t be “crowded”, because there wasn’t a “W”!! Freudian slip? Well if the SHOE FITS!!! 😂🙋🏻

      • I am now GOING to DETACH myself from this LOBBY before I blow a GASKET from having such a CLOGGED mind lately

        • ROTFL..Well, look at you, trying to give some of us a run for our money! And GOING the STEP further by putting the answer in too! Kudos! 👏🏻 We welcome the challenge! You gave me a chuckle! And even if your mind may be clogged…there’s nothing wrong with your eyesight! Thanks again for the catch…That’s two I owe you know. We’ll talk..,But in the meantime…Here’s one for you…
Thinking I was GOING to do my best to DETACH myself from the responsibility of delivering the cars’ GASKET, sadly I found myself in the dirty CLOGGED LOBBY of the auto body shop….You’re on, Steve…🙋🏻

      • I came up Anonymous as I was then on my iPad outside on a CLOGGED network connection haha. I don’t come on here very often as I am renovating/updating my computer ! I am nearly done with my reno/upgrade

        • It seems to happen to a lot of us periodically. But it was obvious it was you…🙋🏻

      • I have been known to have the odd typo as well from time to time 😉 I’m very surprized @ what these fingers come up with sometime LOL The right hand seems to want to race the left hand however the left hand isn’t in a racing mood LOL

        • I’ve had a ton of them, especially this past week. The ones in the replies aren’t that big a deal, it’s the ones in the post, like the one you caught this morning that upset me. I don’t want to give people incorrect information. Typos are inevitable, especially with fingernails like mine, and as you’ve stated, speed. And sometimes you can look at something 3-4 times and not even notice. It’s another set of eyes that catches it. I appreciate your telling me. I go in and correct any typos I pick up on others, no one likes seeing typos in their posts. I guess we all do that finger dance! Have a good one, Steve, and thanks again. 🙋🏻

          • So very true! We are all human and ALL make typos ! I sure hope you don’t take offence to me bringing up the said typo as I meant not to make fun or judge you in any way. I was assuming it was just slip up. We know what we want to type however it don’t always show up like we wish it too HAHA Don’t let it bother you the least little bit. 😉

            • Steve…Not at all. As I said, I appreciate it. Won’t be my first typo, and surely not the last. And you didn’t come off as a creep like some people have to Mike and I in the past when an error occurred. As you said, we all make them. Be assured, no offense taken in the least. If anything, it shows you’re reading the post…well the Jumble words at least! LOL…I’ve had this conversation with a friend here…(about) Who really reads what…It’s given us a good laugh!! No harm, no foul, Steve. We’re cool…🙋🏻

      • Hey Steve Steve – Now why on (or off) the Earth would you ditch a cool cosmic name like “Solarstormz” for something as ordinary and boring as “Steve”? 😂😂🙋🏻‍♂️

  2. The hotel guest blew a GASKET GOING into the LOBBY and not being able to DETACH himself from a persistent panhandler’s pleas.
I also had a momentary tic with DETACH, Paul, but the others and the solution did not cause any missteps. Also a fan of the Beach Boys, Angela. Thanks for a summery reference on what may be a warm day up here. For some reason when I began to read your post, the song from “My Fair Lady” came to mind–“Wooden, it be loverly?.”
Enjoyed your posts and even though my maternal grandfather was Dutch, had never heard the name Roel before,.
    Have a good day, all.

    • Good Morning, Earl! I’m so sorry, I’d forgotten you were a fan of them also. I may have to change my ORDER to two PAIR! It’s hard keeping up with everyone’s music proclivities! But I’m making a 🎶 of it! 😉 And I like your choice too…very clever, but I went with what I FELD FIT best! As for ROEL, you know I did my research. And I checked all the pronounciations too. These Dutch ones? “Maakte me gek”! But looking for a name for the store? I couldn’t resist! It definitely was the SHOE IN! And then reading about the name, even the description seemed to FIT! ROEL’s a regular entrepreneur! Great sentence, as always, I know GASKET wasn’t easy…Thanks for the shout out…and yep…🎶The Heat Is On…🎶 My allergies are reminding me already! Have a good one, Sir! 👡🙋🏻

Taken from: First name meaning.com. Origin:Dutch
Roel is a virile, dynamic and resourceful man, who possesses a certain charm of which he is entirely conscious… Rather materialistic and self-serving, he doesn´t hesitate to seize the opportunities that life presents him with. He often makes an excellent financier who feels at home in the world of business and he can be extremely persuasive: when he wants something he is capable of great determination and perseverance

  3. Morning, everyone –
I thought this was an easy one but very cute. Never owned a pair of clogs myself but I remember a time when they were popular.
Lelia, I left a message on IOW you might be interested in related to an earlier discussion.

    • Hi, Caroline! I have scrolled & scrolled & scrolled and can’t find IOW. Could you copy your message & post it here? If not, just tell me where to look. Thanks.

      • Lelia/Caroline: Here’s Caroline’s message: 🙋🏻

        Hi All –
I was catching up on website comments and noticed the discussion on Cipro, etc. I have no expertise in this area but I recommend the book Worst Pills, Best Pills for drug information. It’s by Public Citizen’s Health Research Group. Unfortunately, the last edition is dated 2005, but they do have a website and newsletter also. In the book they discuss Cipro, etc. in a similar way to what Lelia was saying.

      • Hi Lelia,
I’m sorry you had to do all that scrolling. I should have posted the date of the last IOW – 4/12. But I see Angela solved the problem.
Great time – 2:29 – on the puzzle!

      • Caroline, Angela, & Steve, Thank you Caroline for commenting about the book Worst Pills, Best Pills and thank you Angela for moving it to the daily comment section and thank you Steve for encouraging me again to look for a better doctor who will listen to me.

    • Hey Caroline…Yes, that’s just want is is…easy and cute! I still have pairs of clogs. I saved them…I love all that retro stuff…Have a great day! 👡🙋🏻

  4. Hi, all! I woke up coughing with newspaper still in yard so decided to go to Seattle where the Jumble is in color, can be enlarged a little bit, and has sounds I’ve gotten used to that let you know immediately if you got the word or answer right. According to their timer, I finished our Tuesday Jumble in 2:29 or 2 minutes, twenty-nine seconds. I liked the whole puzzle a lot with the sweet, pleasant faces of the Dutch people, their clothes, their happy reaction to the shoes, and the windmill in the background.

    Enjoy your day!

    • Hi Lelia. Yes, it’s a real easy, breezy one today! Hope the coughing gets better. Enjoy your day too, and be well. 👡🙋🏻

  5. Hi all – DETACH took a second try, putting the CH at the end, and I had to write the letters to get the answer.
Well, this is the second day in a row that that cartoon made me laugh, but UGG! I love the hats, but I’m pretty sure that this not what the inside of a Dutch shoe store or coffee shop would look like, and I know that at least some Dutch go bare headed. That’s ok though, Jeff. I know UTRECHT far and wide for your inspiration here.
Hey, they could install a Dutch Oven, and while you were waiting for your shoes, you could enjoy a nice COBBLER. It would also help to keep the shop warm – without a door it must be FRIESIAN in there! Also, try arranging some tulips in PLANTARs. WART have you got to lose?
    Good day, everyone.

    • Hey G. LOL…Considering we may be as far back as the 13th century here, I would think Jeff did get his FOOT in the door, so to speak….And you GOT some real GOUDA puns here’ .👏🏻 But the “black and white” of it is, it may just be a kiosk for all we know, or perhaps Jeff meant to portray the door as opening outward, SHOE know, so as not to CLOG up the panel. Maybe HEEL explain…And since there’s no cloaks in evidence, I think the FRIESIAN may not be cool…I mean he didn’t draw them BREEDing any cold air! I think it’s just a real nice depiction of those old time HOLLANDAISE…😉 Have a GOUDA one, Bud’ 👡🙋🏻

      • That classic HOLLANDAISE — GRAVY? 😂. I figured it could be old-time, but didn’t give EDAM as long as I could use a Gouda cheesy pun.
Next time, I JOOP (pronounced “Yope”) you use my father-in-law’s nickname for your male character. 😂🙋🏻‍♂️

        • LOL..JOOP! You got it, HOLLANDAISE gravy! The name…As I told Earl, I was listening to a ton of them this morning. And I did a lot of SMH too! But once I hit on ROEL, and knew I could get a pun with the shop name, I was sold. I had to be out of the house before 9, and I was rushing to get everything done here. But you have a name, Bud? We’ll talk…😉 Speaking of Earl, that Serendipity thing? The Osso Buco? Slammed that baby in the biggest DUTCH OVEN we have before I left! 😉 And Lou’s watching the “pot”. Heading home soon. We came down to the beach…77° and sunny. Cures whatever ails ya’…I’ll let you know when I check out Jimmy…Ciao! 🌞🙋🏻

    • Hi, Steve!
I’m glad you mentioned tulips because I wanted to but couldn’t decide between fields of beautiful tulips or a vase of tulips. I have an arrangement of beautiful pink tulips (silk, because of my allergies) in our dining room right now.
